Come and take my mind off it!

Suggest something indulgent we can do to distract ourselves.

Kaffy - we could be twins on this!

My due date by my period and earliest possible date of conception was 23 Feb, making me only 3 days late. But the dating scan put me at 16 Feb, so I'm officially 9 days over and they have booked me for induction next week when I'll be officially 14 days over but 'only' a week by my dates.

I reckon my baby has just been big from the start...

Right, what to do? Might be worth starting a thread to ask for advice on this. Or talk to your midwife - what does she say?

MrsCurly · 25/02/2010 10:42

Kaffy I would ask for an assessment in daycare and a scan to check the level of fluid. If these show the baby is fine then ask to be reassessed in 3 or 4 days. This would take you to term +14 according to the hospital, and they should agree. Did your midwife write on your notes that she didn't think induction would be favourable?

I was induced at term + 14 with DC2 after having an assessment at term + 10 which showed everything was fine. Like you I disagreed with the hospital dates - mine also suggested the baby wasn't really overdue. I was terrified of being induced and I have to say while not exactly a bundle of laughs, it was completely fine. I had a very fast labour in the end with little pain relief and felt like superwoman afterwards. Very different to my first birth which came about naturally but required far more intervention.

Good luck.

WhyMeWhyNot · 25/02/2010 10:44

Our area lets you go to term plus 14.
Why not ask if you can be given another 5 days to see if it happens naturally.
If they don't agree though I wouldn't get too upset.
Ours always go by scan dates never mum's own.
Good luck keep us posted

Kaffy · 25/02/2010 11:05

Thanks for your comments

Also nice to know that induction doesn't have to be 'bad'...!

Midwife says my baby is big (yikes)so that could explain the earlier due date from my scans. She also said I have the right to refuse induction - but I reckon that will be hard work up to a point. With a cynical head on I think the hospitals top priority is not to let a patient become too overdue - they have their statistics to think about!

I think I will still go into hospital tomorrow so they can monitor me but if everything looks ok will attempt to get them to let me put induction off until sometime next week.

Will keep you posted and thanks again.
Anyone been nesting? personally I couldnt imagine anything worse than getting down on my hands and knees and scrubbing the kitchen floor!!

TheOldestCat · 25/02/2010 12:45

Good luck with the hospital tomorrow Kaffy- let us know how it goes.

Kaffy · 25/02/2010 13:08

Thanks Theoldestcat - meant to say earlier that's rather strange how we both have similar due dates.. will let you know.

So my baby is quite high and i'm not dilated at all. I was just sitting on the floor with my legs spread out in front of me, and when I went to get up I realised that the baby had dropped a bit. 30mins later after stacking the dishwasher/tidying the kitchen she had climbed back up again. Went and sat on the floor again and she dropped again. Only seems to work if you sit with your legs in front of you in a V shape and leaning slightly forward (hanging on to the ends of your trousers for support).

Try it and see if it works. I now have fanny pain as she's on my cervix.

Not sure whether she'll stay down this time-hopefully

MrsCurly · 26/02/2010 09:41

Any news ladies? No baby for me yet!

Hello,

Can I join?

I am now 1 day overdue and I have had a little cry this morning as I am just so fed up.

You would think I would know better as this is my second baby. My DS was 40+4 although was emcs due to being undiagnosed breech until I was 8 cm .

I have hospital appointment this afternoon and going for a VBAC and hoping for an induction sooner rather than later. I just don't know how I can do another 2 weeks being this size/tired/uncomfortable and looking after my toddler.

Kaffy - good luck at hospital.
Hope that I haven't brought a dark cloud to this thread....my misery feels infectious at the moment

369thegoosedrankwine · 26/02/2010 10:56

Victoria - Do you have a birthing ball? Bouncing on mine gives me pains in my cervix afterwards with the head pressing on it. I would recommend one if you haven't got one.

DrSkidaddle · 26/02/2010 16:40

369 - FWIW I also felt like you just after my due date but now feel fine again at 40+6 - think I have just changed my expectations and adjusted my due date so am now expecting my baby to arrive at 40+14 - although not sure if they would let you go that far as a VBAC?

victoria - wierd about your baby moving up and down - I can;t really tell where mine is which makes me think he is probably NOT down..

kaffy - Induction at 40+14 is also standard here so I'm sure you could persuade them to wait a bit longer.

TheOldestCat - ooh exciting! Keep us posted....

Pingpong · 26/02/2010 19:22

hello ladies I'm now overdue so going to join you if that's okay?
369 I could have written almost the exact same post as you!
I am one day over but went 8 days over with DD and also had emcs (but she got stuck not breech)
I can't imagine being able to walk in a few days time.
I am also hoping for VBAC but have been given conflicting information from different consultants.
I was originally told I would be allowed to go 6 days over and then given 2 small doses of gel (no syntocin) then ARM and if no action CS. However yesterday was told 2 small doses of gel but consultant seemed quite negative about the sucess rate of VBAC after induction and I was given choice of induction on 2nd March or ELCS on 2nd March. I've booked for ELCS however I spoke to community MW today who seemed really surprised by the turn of events and made me think I'd made the wrong decision. She has offered me a sweep tomorrow and again on Monday.
Head now in a spin and just really hoping that labour starts spontaneoulsy this weekend.

boardbunny · 26/02/2010 20:30

Ooh it's a full moon on Sunday, apparently birth rates go up on full moons? Here's hoping for us all!

Tonight I am having curry followed by Lost and True Blood being viewed whilst bouncing on my birthing ball, sending positive vibes to baby to get a move on..

bigpantspam · 26/02/2010 21:28

Hello ladies

Still here, now 40+4. Not feeling too bad. Saw the consultant yesterday and they have booked induction for next Fri when i will be 40+11. I actually felt quite panicked about it when I got home. I'm seeing my mw on Mon for a sweep, so I am going to say to her I'd rather wait until I am 40+14 - I'd rather have the weekend at home to see if it happens naturally (if it hasn't already, ds was 10 days over).

I've had some strong bh tonight and have what I can inly describe as a dragging feeling. I went a bit odd and shaky earlier, but that seems to have passed now.

Here's hoping something happens for us all soon!

DrSkidaddle · 27/02/2010 11:29

oh smac - what a nightmare. Maybe you can see how you feel over the weekend and then make a decision on Monday after the sweep? I suppose you just have to go with your gut feeling... how annoying to be getting such contradictory advice.

bigpantspan - I also have a sweep on Monday and then induction booked for next Sun when I'll be 40+15. Hopefully neither of us will need to wait that long. I would also really like to avoid induction but think I will be so desparate I will go with anything by next Sunday...

boardbunny fingers crossed for your full moon theory...

369thegoosedrankwine · 27/02/2010 12:12

Hello, I'm still here.

Had consultant appointment yesterday and hospital were very clear that they want me to wait until 40+14 to give me the best chance possible of a VBAC.

I also had a scan to check that it is head down and it is. Was very wierd as I could see what baby bits had been poking me and so I now know what are feet, arms etc. They estimated the weight as 8lb 6oz now - Gawd knows what it'll be in 2 weeks time.

Smac Feel for you in getting contradictory advice. Did the advice differ to mine because baby got stuck? Sorry not trying to make your head spin even more, just wondered whether that is why we have received different advice. My appointment didn't focus on success of VBAC after induction but more what the risks are of scar rupture: 1 in 300 if you go into spontaneous labour but 1 in 100 with induction apparently.

Hope the sweep gets thing started today.

DrS I think that you are right about the frame of mind thing. Now I have a longstop date (so to speak) I can begin a definite countdown, although I have cried again this morning (hormones - me thinks).

Bigpants I am hoping for a sweep on Tuesday.

Broadbunny I had a curry last night & on Thursday and to be honest I don't even like them that much. Will try anything at the moment though.

I am also having lots of twinges and I am still hoping to go sooner rather than later.

Pingpong · 27/02/2010 22:11

OMG the sweep was so uncomfortable ! I was digging my nails into my buttocks. Cervix uneffaced, posterior and 1cm dilated.
MW was really nice and she still thinks I have a good chance of VBAC as I got fully dilated with DD. It seems strange that VBAC policy is so different in different places, even with my first baby they weren't keen to let me go over by 14 days - induction was booked for 11 days over (would have been 10 but that fell at the weekend) but in the end I went into spontaneous labour at 40+8.
I really, really hope something happens tomorrow- maybe we'll all have full moon babies
I don't want to be left to go to 40+14. This baby is measuring big, DD was 8lb 11 and got stuck so I'm wondering how I'm supposed to get a baby that might be even bigger out?

Kaffy · 27/02/2010 22:32

Hi all - still no baby! Managed to persuade hospital to give me a couple more days but they want me in tomorrow (sunday) as according to them will be 40 +12. Gonna ask alot of questions about whether I am ready before I say yes to induction. To be honest though am getting to the point where I just want this baby out... walked round town today and kept seeing new babies everywhere and thought, why them? where is my baby!
I guess all this wondering will all be ancient history soon!
Nervous about tomorrow so still hoping it may decide to venture into the world by itself before then.
Tried pineapple and even a bit of you know what this morning(fun when you have a stomache the size of a small elephant!) doesnt seem to have worked!
May give victoriascrumptious's tip of sitting on the floor a go in a minute.. will I be able to get up again though??!!
Hope all goes well for you all - will keep you posted!
Kaffy xx

369thegoosedrankwine · 28/02/2010 03:37

Smac - It is wierd the way the advice is so different. There was no discussion at my appointment really just a 'we will wait until 14 days to give you a good chance'. I too have eye watering reservations about being left 14 days over with a big baby, especially because I haven't got a 'tested pelvis' so to speak. To be honest if I could be induced tomorrow I would be.

I have had the most horrendous backache today, but probably because I have cleaned cleaned and cleaned this house again.

I am also up at this hour due to pregnancy insomnia - happy days.

Kaffy - good luck tomorrow.

Fingers crossed for the safe arrival of full moon babies for us all.

SolidGoldBrass · 28/02/2010 04:22

All the best to all of you. Of course, it's all abig joke and you are just going to be pregnant forever, and everyone else is lying about the fact that you might get a baby at the end of being pregnant.... (that;s how i felt when DS didn't come till a week after his due date).

MrsCurly · 28/02/2010 17:27

Hello

Just to let you all know, I had a beautiful baby girl at home this morning.

After two days of false labour, woke at 1.20am with massive contractions. Eight hours later, she was born in the living room, 7lb 0oz.

Thanks to everyone on this thread for their support. Wishing you all the same joy!

I feel very blessed.

Mrs C

Great news Mrs C - congratulations
enjoy your newborn cuddles.

bigpantspam · 28/02/2010 18:56

Aww, how lovely!! Well done MrsCurly enjoy her!!

blonde36er · 28/02/2010 19:04

I'll join in the fun here too, am now 40+4 (due on Thurs). Sweep booked in at home on Wednesday (40+6) and then MW wants to talk about induction at either 40+10 or 40+14.

Unless there's a problem then I won't consider induction until 40+14 (so a week on Thurs) and then if all is still OK would push for induction to happen the following Monday...first timer so I'd like to give fat baby as much chance as possible to come out on it's own (also, planned homebirth, can't see me persuading DH to stick me in the car to bring me home if I start contracting after being induced )

However, have all my fingers crossed for a full moon baby, however unlikely that may be...

DrSkidaddle · 28/02/2010 19:56

well done MrsC and maybe a tiny bit - enjoy your little girl

welcome blonde36er - fingers crossed for an appearance soon
