Come and take my mind off it!

Suggest something indulgent we can do to distract ourselves.

Burmese, you are a doll. I will try to take a leaf out of your's and madcat's book and be firm. I have got a doula who I trust and dh will be well briefed. I have been considering ARM - all other induction procedures are contraindicated for previous caesareans I think, and I know my cervix is favourable. Hmm. Thanks, I feel much better to hear you were so feisty!

mitfordsisters · 12/06/2010 10:12

Word up; I had my overdue baby at 40+14 on Thursday morning. My amazing doula managed it so that by the time we got to the hospital I was ready to push and he came out 30 minutes after getting there after a 7 hour labour. She was truly wonderful as I really wanted a VBAC and my chances were diminishing rapidly as time went one.

My gorgeous 6lb 6oz ds2 is asleep next to me.

burmesegrumbler · 13/06/2010 09:39

Congrats mitford!!!!

mumtoblaire · 13/06/2010 11:16

homebirthmummy4 · 18/06/2010 13:33

my baby girl arrived on 7th june after induction at 40+18. we were released from hospital on wednesday after a long and scary stay in scbu. this is why the delay in posting. congrats to those who have delivered that i missed. hope you are all well.

shipsladyg · 18/06/2010 16:15

I do LOVE my consultant. He's so sensible and old skool. I wish I could guarantee that he'd be available on D-Day and not one of his flunkies. Oh well... Anyway, he's letting me carry on until 25th before induction. We're not going to push it beyond that. Got monitoring twice next week. Fingers crossed baby appears before then and if not, that monitoring is OK in the meantime.

mitfordsisters · 18/06/2010 16:53

Congrats homebirthmummy4 - hope you and your lovely baby are doing well.

JuneMammy · 18/06/2010 17:13

Hi ladies,

Just signing in to this thread today - 40 + 7 today

Congrats to all the recent mums - encouraging to read your stories .

I guess + 7 is "earlyish" days, but my general positive relaxed feelings are beginning to erode! Sweep planned for Tuesday, hope there will be some action before or by then. Trying not to think beyond that for now.

Sending calm birthing vibes to all the little relaxing babies this weekend!

Summerhols · 19/06/2010 08:22

Can I please join? I am only 40+3 today but starting to feel fed up, which I know is silly considering 3 days is nothing! Anyway I looked at my dates again last night and have decided my EDD by the 12 week scan is total rubbish so am trying to mentally scrap it and replace it with a new EDD of the 24th. So actually I am not over due so I am an imposter on this thread

emaaan · 19/06/2010 08:27

i am three days over due now. went to hospital on my due date, becuase was having discharge and contractions. mw examined me and told that it is not water break and i should go home and wait.if feel like fever, strong contractions, water breaks and blook and come back otherwise booked me for induction on 27 june. but i am unable to cope with these contractions. feel so strong for a while. cant ignore, then feels normal. cant sleep so tried paracetamol two nights before, was helpfull , had a good sleep but since then tried these pain killers twice but no luck, i am unable to sleep now though walk enough during day. tried warm bath as well. please help what should i do. it is my first baby, was normal throughout the pregnancy, just had piles last month, it does not cause anymore pain now, and hopefully will disappear itself after delivery. please help me. i want to rest for sometime before active labout. suggestionssssssssssssssssss

JuneMammy · 19/06/2010 13:18

Hi Summerhols - i like your approach - Hopefully you will stay an imposter!

Emaan, that sounds very frustrating. Im 40+8 and haven't felt much in relation to contractions or pre-labour pain so i cant really offer any suggestions there.

A few drops of good quality lavender on a cottonwool ball by your pillow might be useful in helping you get some rest before actual labour begins (which might not be far off for you!)

Good luck!

Summerhols · 21/06/2010 09:43

Anyone still overdue?

JuneMammy I saw your thread on induction, I found it useful, made me realise it is important to go into it (if it happens) with a possitive frame of mind and not all doom and gloom.

I am 40+4 today, I've got my first sweep booked for Thursday and then one on the folloing Tuesday. Spent yesterday doing loads of gardening, which seemed to get things moving but as soon as I relaxed all stopped.

Going to go for a loooooong walk today and go shopping. Retail therapy = distraction.

shipsladyg · 21/06/2010 10:49

You're so right about relaxing Summerhols. I had a couple of hours of what I'm guessing were twinges last night, but as soon as I went to bed, they all went. Phooee. Pah. and other frustrated fed up noises.

I'm 40+15 today. Got monitoring later and hopefully another sweep. I've only got until Friday to encourage baby to make a voluntary exit from the Big Momma House then it's eviction night. Sigh.

georgee · 22/06/2010 12:04

Hi all

I'm new to this thread - my due dates were always a matter of debate. If you go by the 12 week scan I'm 40 + 10, but if you go by my LMP I'm 40 + 1 . Hasn't been a problem so far but of course now I'm overdue it will be a problem, as I have no idea how cooked the baby is, I may be pressed into an induction too early, but on the other hand I don't want to leave it too late ! This is my first baby so I may well be worrying about it all more than I need to.

Seeing midwife tomorrow and will ask for sweep and just cross fingers that this budges something - I just want it all to start as naturally as possible. If this fails I might start monitoring at the end of the week, but when to consider induction??

Off for a little walk around the block now anyway - trying to keep as active as poss!

Summerhols · 22/06/2010 14:21

georgee - Welcome to this very exclusive thread for only special ladies

I hear what you are saying about the difference between EDD by scan and by LMP, mine are out by 7 days. So I am officially 40+5 today but I actually think I am 39+5. This is also supported by the fact that I have measured small through all my pregnancy. I was going to push back my induction but I am starting to feel fed up so think I will go for it if I am still about in 9 days time. I am also a first timer so it is all a bit confusing.

Good luck for sweep tomorrow, let us know how it goes.

littone · 22/06/2010 14:51

Hello ladies - I a now 40+4 with baby numner 2 (baby number 1 was born at 40+3). Been to see the midfwife today, who asked me if I wanted her to book me an induction (err, no!) but obviously have fingers crossed that things progress before I see her next week.

georgee · 22/06/2010 15:35

Thanks Summerhols! Will definitely keep you posted on progress! Sounds as if their EDD for you wasn't entirely accurate if you've been measuring small!

After walk this morning was going to go outside and have a cuppa in the garden but the France/South Africa match is proving so interesting I think I'll stomp around the sofa for the next hour or so to see how it pans out, and see if I can't progress things at the same time!

Congrats Homebirthmummy!!!!!

georgee · 23/06/2010 10:32

Thanks peppa, that's reassuring. And congratulations! I suppose I just want that natural start to things if at all possible. Was talking to a 90 year old lady a couple of weeks ago and she said she had three children, all of whom were three weeks late!

mitfordsisters · 23/06/2010 21:33

Nice one pregnantpeppa!

georgee · 24/06/2010 07:25

Hi all

Quick update. Meeting with MW yesterday expecting a sweep - no can do because baby's head is not low enough - in fact it's gone from 4/5 which wasn't great anyway, to 'free', gah! When will it descend??

Anyway, because of the nine-day discrepancy in dates (and, more to the point, I suspect, because they don't have any induction spaces until next Wednesday) they've agreed to monitor from this Friday.

Meanwhile I'm drawing a lot of strength from the earlier posts on this thread and just reading them all to find out what happened to everyone, how long they were left, how the births went etc. One interesting thing was posted about a new theory that suggests that due dates should actually be calculated by working back three months from the LMP date and adding 15 days for a first baby and 10 days for subsequent babies. Which would make mine actually due on 29 June (the date from the scan was 12 June, mine was 21 June). Having sailed past these first two dates with nothing doing I'm now clinging to the third as a real possibility!

Hope all you ladies-in-waiting have a good day.

fakeblondie · 24/06/2010 09:32

LeoniPoni · 24/06/2010 16:57

Hi everyone! Congrats to all those who have had their lovely LOs and positive thoughts to all the overdue mums!

I'm 40+6 today with DC1. Saw the midwife this morning and had a sweep (ouch ouch ouch!). Came home, had a bit of spotting. Then convinced DF into a bit of MW advised rumpy pumpy.

Now (about an hour later) I've had the bloody show and I'm feeling very crampy. So I'm hoping things are starting off.

Can the bloody show still mean ages off?

JuneMammy · 27/06/2010 19:55

My little girl arrived 40+10, the day before the sweep. I am giving some small credit to the jalfrezi on Sat night , though i had also tried nearly everything else..

Two friends also went in to spontaneous labour this week at 40+11 and 40+12.. On credited her reflexology session with the kick start!

And georgee, my baby was deemed to have moved from 3/5 engaged a few weeks ago to "free" a few days before the due date.. i think its an extremely inexact science - very hard for the midwife to tell - so i would not worry too much about that. The only way you can really tell is a scan. In fact, a friend was told last week that her baby was not engaged, so was sent for a scan, the radiologist told her that if the baby was any further engaged it would be out! So take the 'free'/'engaged' estimates with a pinch of salt.

Best of luck girls!! Im sure the lovely babies will be here soon!!!
