Anyone complaining of smears hurting should be forced to have a sweep to put things into perspective.

I think i got to the stage where it was definitely better out than in, by any means possible.
If you are willing to try multiple sweeps you must really have an aversion to induction - I hope it happens soon for you.

The pressure points you refer to, are they on the inner aspects of your heels? Also try an inch down from your neck (at the back - dh/dp?) at either side of your neck?

why were staff dismissive of you? that's 14 days on monday isn't it?

It's your baby, your choice. The rates of complications rise naturally toward the end and not as a result of a breaking down placenta.

Just because you havn't had any contractions yet doesn't mean the sweep hasn't worked. MW told me that it can take two days to get things going.

I had a sweep with DD at about 10am, and went into labour at 1.30am, so maybe something will get going when you are relaxed and in bed?!

LOL! they wouldn't be cooperative???? ooooh yeah. like they're going to risk being sued! these midwives can be complete.... insensitives! (I have called them worse in my experience as a mature student midwife...)

However, in their defence, midwifery is such a sueable profession (sorry, the correct word escapes me) that they do mind their own backs to the detriment of the wishes and needs of the mother.

The sweep might work. It's not overly reliable but if you're ready to go you will.

Treat midwives like that with a pinch of salt - it's just how they are I'm afraid.

the woman's right to chose is there. But whether you chose to exercise that right in the face of such opposition... well you're a better man than I if you can put up with all of that browbeating.

Remember, you pregnant ladies can do whatever you want apart from give birth without a qualified midwife or doctor there - unless you're a BBA (born before arrival)...

Oh posted on other thread before I read this. sorry they were horrible mosschops. I was 9 days over and it's horrible I know. Fingers crossed things get going tonight.

I was well cheesed off wih waiting (my 2 previous births were early) and had done the lot. Someone recommended reflexology so I rang up to make the appt. for the next day. On the phone he told me that many women didn't make the appt. as they went into labour that night. Guess what?! First contraction as waters broke and DS arrived 90 mins later (third one hence speed). Perhaps you should give it a go.

Hi Mosschops, my children were all late. 9 days,6 days, 11 days and last but not least 14! days.

I had two very different experiences with the last two. first time (11days) I had horrible staff telling me about risks to baby - they were so awful and i was really scared but dd came about an hour before i was due to be induced.

So on no4 i was really geared up for some trouble as edd came and went. this time though the doctor was SO nice and really supportive of my waiting. I agreed on induction for day 14 and tried everything to get baby out.

I had a sweep at 7 days with no effect (both times) and then on day 13 had another sweep that started off a few mild contractions and when i got to hosp for the induction she examined me before getting the drugs out and found i was quite well dilated and could do without them.
She swept around some more (3 sweeps!!) and baby no4 was out within 2 hours.

Sorry that's so long but i would say hang in there and trust your instincts even though its really hard to ignore when they start threatening you about your baby being in danger. Baby 4 was absolutely fine, not dry skinneed or otherwise harmed!!

And also its like a smear test in that it depends on who does it as to whether its agony or not!! Sone are def. a lot rougher than others.

dear moschops, I went 10 days over with my db. Didn't get offered a sweep and was induced but opted for an epidural,have had my waters breken with every one even when gone into labour on own and have been lucky as none have hurt me breaking them.
