Mosschops, just make sure in later years you tell your dd/ds how much trouble they were. Appropriate occasions for this conversation are: first time they bring boyfriend/girlfriend back home/at their wedding/any time they aren't being sufficiently grateful to you.

And GOOD LUCK!

Mosschops my first dd was a week late and the day before I went into labour I was in adreadful mood and even phoned my midwife up and bellowed down the phomne at her!!! she calmly replied that she thought the baby wouldnt be long!!!I was sooo fed up it was the last day of june and we had the first bit of sunshine fir months, my landlady said, go and lie in the sun, maybe the baby will see the sun on your tummy and decide to be born!!! I went into labour that night!!! seriously though, nipple stimulation can help, try getting dh to do it with some body lotion or nipple cream, I was already 2 cms dilated with ds 2 when I went in to be induced and I had been tweaking my nipples all week!! also if you feel up to it, go for a gentle walk as this will hopefully cause your babyies head to put pressure on your cervix, if all else fails you will prob find that when you do go for your induction it wont take much to get you going, you could well be in labour after one lot of prost gel..good luck

oooh - jsut found this thread, how exciting.
Walk, walk walk to keep them going, don?t be tempted to lie down too much ( I know you are meant to take early stages easy and conserve energy) but keeping upright and mobile is the best thing to do..mine tailed on and off all day with DD2 and went for a longish walk and the constant walking really helped kick it into action (was walking in the dark ho ho with DH ready to dash back for the car if necessary!!)
keep us posted if you can

Spacecadet · 08/01/2005 19:58

sounds promising!!! keep moving about, and twiddle those nipples!! its helps to keep the momentum up, (apparently nipple stimulation releases oxytocin into the body which causes you to contract) keep us posted..good luck!!

pupuce · 08/01/2005 20:00

Mosschop.... GO TO BED WITH 2 PARACTEMATOLS... I promise you it will help.... you'll wake up in the night with stronger contractions.... go for it honey !

pupuce · 08/01/2005 20:02

Should add that I disagree with the other 2 posters..... less is best at this point - over stimulating can create a false start !

weightwatchingwaterwitch · 08/01/2005 20:03

Oh no mosschops, you're STILL here? Hope this is it for you.

Spacecadet · 08/01/2005 20:07

gosh..not heard the paracetomol one before pupuce...when I was induced I was advised that walking etc was the best way forward for keeping things going..I would have thought that being upright would be better as the force of gravity takes over iyswim. When I went into labour with my dd1 at one point i ran a bath and was very dissapointed to find my contractions tailed off at that time, only getting going again when I got out and started walking around again.

pupuce · 08/01/2005 20:08

Paracetmalo because it helps you relax and doze off which is what is needed - especially when under stress !
The bath is not a good idea at this stage, I agree.

Yes I can see your point abaout resting..I was trying to give advice about keeping contractions going..its important to try and get some rest in the eraly stages as you dont know how much of a long haul you are in for!! I wish paracetamol would help ME sleep!!!!

I should say that in the past I would have suggested walking but as a doula I have seen too many women do that and create some contractions from the walking which led to not much (Harman was an example of that actually) and when you go off to do something like "sleeping/resting" you are NOT trying to get your body going..... it will go on its own. Lye on your side and dose off (as if you have contractions, sleeping is quite "impossible")
Mosschops - if you continue like this, contracting on and off - I am sure they will be happy to delay induiction to Monday as I am sure you will have started by then (if not in THIS night).
