Once you get going, it will be quick....

Spacecadet · 08/01/2005 20:26

I would be very careful with the castor oil mosschops..Im a nurse and its not generally thought to be a good idea to take castor oil in late preg any more, you are more likely to just end up with a very nasty dose of the trots which will leave you feeling pretty grotty!!and any contractions you do have may well just be a side effect of that and may die away again. If the contractions have died away again it might be a good idea to follow pupuce's advice and got to bed soon..you dont have to sleep ..just relax with a good book or something, it does sound like your baby is getting ready to make his entrance into the world! as I said before if you still have to go for induction, bet they wont have to do much to get you going!

Mosschops, don't worry too much about induction. If it has to be, it has to be. I was induced for all 4 of mine (they were much too happy where they were!). All I can suggest is to keep keep moving - it helped to make things a little faster for me. Everything will go fine for you - just think of having that little one in your arms before long. All the best for you - so excited for you! xxxx

Spacecadet - have you heard of Ina May Gaskin - the US midwife... she's delivered over 1000 babies, she says castor oil is NOT bad and VERY efficient IF you are on the verge of labour (favourable cervix)... she would never suggest taking it otherwise. She says that in those cases, she has had no incidence of labour on the toilet.... whioch is one of the problems (as it can give you BAD diaorrhea)

Spacecadet · 08/01/2005 20:29

I would also make the most of getting some rest as once your ds is here you wont be having any for a while!!! sorry!! its worth it though

miam · 08/01/2005 20:29

Sorry, if I confused I meant keep moving once things get going. Get as much rest as you can just now. Things will get going when they are ready. xxx

all the midwives I spoke to do not advocate the use of castor oil anymore as it can affect women differently..I personally am a Sheila kitzinger fan

miam · 08/01/2005 20:36

Enjoy your cake mosschops. Look forward to seeing you announce the birth of your little one. xx

Spacecadet · 08/01/2005 20:38

cake sounds tastier than castor oil!

oops - sorry pupuce, and Misschops, please ignore my advice to walk about. I honestly thought I was passing on good advice given to me by my mw and that seemed to work (DD1 I lay around in bed for ages during early stages and went on forever). Pupuce always gives such good advice and feeling rather embarrassed now

I am inclined to agree with happymumof2...I have 4 children and when I was preg with dd1 I was advised to take castor oil mixed with orange juice as the norm to start labour, but didnt fancy it.When preg with dd2 last year I was told not to try it, as it happens I was induced 2 weeks early anyway.

Spacecadet · 08/01/2005 20:44

sorry pinkdiamond, didnt intend to upset you..
