Dear mosschops what part of the induction worries you?

Dear mosschops, I don't think we have a birthing centre near me so please excuse my ignorance. What is the difference and what pain relief are u opting for if any?

janeybops · 05/01/2005 20:38

both of mine were late. with first was talked into being induced. regret it.

was strong with second and insisted they monitored me. went into labour and had him about 3 hours before I really, really had to be induced.

You don't sound like a snob at all, it sounds lovely, so frustrating at this point. Stick to your guns and i hope everything goes as u want. xxx

have u tried s e x it says that sperm contains something that can trigger delivery? Anything worth a try at this stage, good luck.

I'm afraid I had 3 sweeps with no result in my 2nd pregnancy Maybe that's a record!

In my first pregnancy though I did go into labour after a sweep - had sweep late afternoon on day 8 and went into labour at 6 am day 9 (dd wasn't actually born until day 10). So your sweep may still work as it seems quite common for it to take some sleep to bring it on - maybe as it seems more common to go into labour during the night or early hours of the morning.

Each of the sweeps I had 2nd time round did produce some braxton hicks and general discomfort so that I kept thinking something was happening and I did dilate a bit, so that after the third sweep they could easily break my waters to induce me, rather than having to have prostaglandin gel. (I did also try sex, orgasm, curry, pineapple, raspberry leaf tea and reflexology - I could feel the reflexology stimulating my uterus and also making baby jump around, so definitely did something, but didn't start labour unfortunately).

Sorry - that's rather negative, as I did have to be induced by having my waters broken in hospital even after 3 sweeps(couldn't do that at local birthing centre). On the other hand my first labour was 26 hours plus and quite traumatic with dd stuck for hours and hours when I was 8 cm and in a lot of pain, second time round after all my attempts to bring on labour, when I finally did go into labour it only took 3 hours 20 minutes, so perhaps all the things I did really prepared my body well for labour.

hey mosschops. where do you live? I'm a qualified and insured (oops, no i'm not - need to pay it tomorrow) reflexologist and I do pregnant women from the start of their pregnancy right through.

furballmad · 06/01/2005 17:03

Any news yet?

oatcake · 06/01/2005 17:44

I think we should assume that things have happened naturally???

See!! You only had to think about the reflexologist. Hope it all gets going soon. Keep moving and good luck.

An imminent birth. How exciting! Although I don't know you I envy you that moment of meeting this new life. It won't be long now and it is so incredible. Thinking of you.

Frizbe · 07/01/2005 00:48

Mosschops, I had my show half way thru my contractions, about 6cm dilated, so if your not on the go already, go for another very long walk, uphill and downdale if you can and this should hopefully speed things up for you (worked for me?) My contractions started in my back as just a dull pain, so you could be on your way!! second YoYo's thoughts, good luck

Frizbe · 07/01/2005 11:57

ooh mosschops you've not been back on, does this mean baby is on way

oatcake · 07/01/2005 11:59

a show doesn't necessarily mean imminency I'm afraid. Keep tweaking your nipples for 10 minutes a go!

pupuce · 07/01/2005 12:00

I reckon a show for a 2nd labour is a good sign....

What a bummer.... was it same MW who did sweep?
How did she describe your cervix ? Did she "tell" you anything?

I think gentle is a good sign that she didn't have to force things as much. Different MW can't tell you REALLY if you have not progressed.
