mosschops don't be to hard on yourself, you are doing the right thing IMO waiting for labour to happen and avoiding the first induction date, it will hopefully mean a more spontaneous and natural birth. Your baby is just not ready yet, although you are!!!! How many days over will you be on monday? If you are having regular scans/ctg and nothing seems amiss there is no reason to accept induction then either.

Right. I think I know what's going on here. there're two mosschops, well, one moschops and one mosschops.

Moschops has recently put a thread up asking what happens at a booking in appointment which confused me loads...

popular name...

Mosschops..... You are probably right about your dates and this is why baby isn't coming .
I have to say that I agree you can have every other day a scan and wait for labour to start. They allow this very easily in some hospital (it's a postcode thing!!)
The point in delaying it is the ease of labour... if your body won't cooperate because it isn't ready than you might have a difficult labour. When they induce you (before they start it) the give you a bishop score... if it is lower than 6 than your inductions chances of success are not brilliant.... the very least they could do is do the internal (to determine the score) and tell you your score.... they normally don't as women don't know anything about this but even if you are below 6 (because you are 2 weeks late) they'll induce you ..... sorry to say but they don't care about this as much as you do!

what area/hospital are you booked at?? As a method of inducing labour have you tried rhythmic rubbing of your stomach??? this someimes works as it can encourage the uterus to contract and is much more plesant than some of the other alternatives!!

I am really sorry that midwives have have not been more supportive of your needs.

do you ever manage to give yourself a braxton hicks (practice contraction?) where your stomache goes rock hard?

Report
twinkle1 · 07/01/2005 19:30

just rub in a firm circular motion for around 15mins, might not work but its worth a try. Sometimes your body is just not ready or willing to go into labour on its own!! i had induction of labour with my first baby.

Both!! a show means that your cervix is getting ready for labour and the mucus plug that was there has started to come away. it can happen without having a sweep or after a sweep the midwife will have disturbed the mucus plug during the sweep if it was a sucsessful sweep!. You can only do a sweep if the cervix is open enough to insert a finger into (Sorry about the graphic detail!!!)

well the fact you are having braxton hicks and a show is very positive!!! hopefully you will go into labour in the next few days, how engaged is you babies head? if it is well down (3/5 2/5) this well help as the babies head will be applying pressure to your cervix. I hope all go's well for you, remember it is your body, your baby dont be afraid to ask lots of questions and tell the midwives what you want. They are supposed to facillitate YOUR birth and provide you with informed choices.

mosschops ikwym about the show - I had one for about 2 weeks prior to labour with both of mine!! It is a good sign though as I am sure you know - your cervix is softening. Pupuce is right - there is a point to waiting - it may well have an effect on your labour.

especially if by your dates you will only be 1 week over. Wonder why the hospital are going by "their" dates and not yours? Presumably you booked birthing centre hoping for a fairly natural birth with less intervention - your chances of this do slide with an induction. Your chances will remain high though if you follow your babys cues and birth when you are both ready. You don't "have to take" any induction date. It is your labour and your body and you have the right to go into labour spontaneously!

I know it is all very well for me to sit here and egg you on to wait - I do remember what it feels like to be 9 months + (both mine were 14 days over) but it helped me to visualise my baby and think about it from the babys point of view - then weigh up the pros and cons.

I hope none of this sounds harsh or pressurising, I don't mean it to be that way - just the opposite. Its just that I have met so many women who have had births that have not turned out the way they planned after inductions, and memories of birth stay with you all your life. Of course your health and the baby's health are more important than your experience in labour and birth, but a good birth means a quick recovery in most cases.

Really really hoping you are in labour NOW or will be very soon. Hope this doesn't seem like a rant.

Love and support x

Where is Moschops????

Mosschops, if you are still around and really want to try to have your baby in the birth center. I would suggest trying castor oil. I use it the night before I was to be induced and had contractions every 2 minutes 6 hours later. Just a tbsp. I didn't have any nasty reaction to it, and thought this all to be better than drip induction!
But hopefully you are alrady in labour!

Castor oil is a good idea IF your cervix is favourable..... not sure hers is.
