mmm was just thinking I went off my food just before I had dd, I only ate my main meal, decided I didn't want my pud (most unlike me!) n then 16 hrs later there she was mind you also spent half my contractions being sick...yuk...just wondered if this might help, although I see your off to buy cake, if you don't feel like eating this when you get back, this could be why!

When I had my last baby, my community midwife was accompanied by a lovely american labour and delivery nurse, she was retraining as a midwife but was teeling me about the different approaches to things in the states with regards to preg and labour. She had been surprised at how different things were over here..her words not mine

gish · 08/01/2005 21:33

I have to admit to using castor oil to kickstart my 2nd labour. I knew my body was ready, 2 weeks over and contractions on and off for 5 days, they would get regular and then tail off. They were keeping me awake and making it impossible for me to cope with looking after my 2 year old. It was so obvious that my mind was holding me back and I couldn't switch off the active part of my brain so I resorted to castor oil. I did spend a wee while on the loo in the afternoon of that day but then established labour began that evening - baby born in 2 hours and no pushing. As a doula I wouldn't recommend it to anyone but if you know your body and its signs - its a personal decision. It would be dangerous to mum and baby if your body wasn't ready.

Hope to not to see you on this thread again mosschops - mean that in the nicest possible way!

xxxxxxxxxx

I only saw this thread this morning - poor you. Have no words of wisdom as I was early with both mine (induced 10 days early with ds1 for pre-eclampsia, naturally 15 days early with ds2). Just wanted to say that, while the birthing centre sounds lovely and I hope you do still make it there, my induction really wasn't all that bad. It was fast and very intense - but it was do-able.

Best of best wishes - whichever way, you'll be holding that baby boy soon.

marthamoo · 09/01/2005 14:04

And respect for managing to do the deed at your advanced state of pregnancy!

pupuce · 09/01/2005 14:09

well well well...... keep us posted!

nailpolish · 09/01/2005 14:10

mosschops

probably been said a thousand times but both times i have been late - both times i had a madras the night before i went into labour

pupuce · 09/01/2005 14:11

marthamoo- can I add that inductions for medical problems tend to be easier (not saying less painful but better success rate) because your body needs to expell the baby to get better.... just thought I'd clarify this for everyone.

nailpolish · 09/01/2005 14:15

pupuce - just wanted to say your posts are so interesting and reassuring. i always read them and smile

pupuce · 09/01/2005 14:16

Thank you that's very nice..... am hoping for Mosschops to end up at birth centre

nailpolish · 09/01/2005 14:20

YOUR birth centre pupuce - how lovely!

fancy starting one up here? the maternity hospital here is very old fashioned

pupuce · 09/01/2005 14:23

I don't have a birth centre....
Would love to start one up though !

nailpolish · 09/01/2005 14:28

OH!

you would be inundated pupuce...

marthamoo · 09/01/2005 14:32

I didn't know that, pupuce - really interesting. I'm not having any more babies but I could be tempted if you opened a MN Birthing Centre!

Frizbe · 09/01/2005 16:52

Good luck, hope you have a bouncing bubba by tomorrow evening.
