Hi all. I am 38 plus 5 days pregnant and just wondering if there is any MN out there getting a little impatient with all this waiting. I am getting a lot of sharp pains and some back ache but nothing that really indicates that I will be going into labour any day soon. Anyone else feeling the same??? My EDD is 26th August - the day after my birthday so am looking forward to a really speacial birthday present Smile

Does that really work? Any tips from the master for maximum effectiveness?!

tweakers · 19/08/2010 20:36

lol, i'm by no means a master! i just wasn't brave enough to start until after today in case it did work so mn friends have been teasing me!
(today's dad's b'day and would cause no end of strife if i had baby today...long story!)

with DS i had a friend staying here a few days before and after my EDD. she was training to be a midwife and i really wanted her to be at the birth soooo under her instruction, as soon as she arrived, i had lots of sex, lots of nipple tweaking, fast walks round the block, no slouching on sofa, bouncing on birth ball and a hot curry

it worked, DS arrived an hour after his due date!

perhaps i should add, the sex was with my DH, not my friend!

oh and apparently there's an acupunture point on your thumb as well that if you press it with your forefinger, it'll get things started

but... i don't think any of the above would work if baby wasn't ready anyway...who knows!

tweakers · 20/08/2010 07:37

morning all

so did anyone's baby make their way out in the night and put themselves to sleep in the cot? Grin

Roz14 · 20/08/2010 08:15

Morning tweakers. No not for me. I was starting to get a little excited last night as I was getting what I first though were the start of contractions from about 5.30pm but by the time I went to bed they had eased off. What about you - any signs?

I've got 1 more day to try and get this baby to come out or its induction! Yesterday I spent ages on my bouncy ball, went for a couple of brisk walks (including stepping up and down the curb lots),did some nipple tweaking, walked up and down the stairs sideways, had a bath then finished the day with nice massage and sex from obliging (if a little exhausted) DH. Not sure what else to try today apart from trying to evoke sods law by wearing fancy underwear and going to the supermarket (obviously wearing something over my fancy underwear Grin).

poppy283 · 20/08/2010 09:04

Nope, still here an officially overdue...
Have come to the conclusion that nothing works, although sod's law and reflexology seem worth a try ... or a dreaded sweep.

I don't think I have the pelvis for a giant, overcooked baby - how did this happen?!

tweakers · 20/08/2010 10:25

from previous experience, wearing white knickers worked!

my back and lower bump's aching, bump is v hard but who knows!

sod's law it is then... anyone got a new sofa for us all to sit on?

CakeandFineWine · 20/08/2010 10:32

Hi all,
Nothing here but sat on my new sofa looking at the shocking traffic as I live near the V fest site in Staffs thinking "mmmmm if it is today I'll be buggered as in-laws will stuggle to get here and look after DD1" so sods law is on my side Grin
had promising signs again last night to the point I couldn't eat anything and couldn't get to bloody sleep but nadda!!
Good luck all

tweakers · 20/08/2010 10:45

wow! i ask for a new sofa to sit on and C&FW arrives with hers!

sounds like you've definitely got sod's law working for you today - awful traffic and a sofa! get that fancy underwear on and you'll be totally sorted!

tweakers · 20/08/2010 10:45

actually, could you get your mil to book some sort of an appt this afternoon? anything will do, she won't be able to make it there!

CakeandFineWine · 20/08/2010 10:47

Good idea Grin wanders off to find fancy underwear which is unlikely to fit no doubt!!! Wink

Roz14 · 20/08/2010 10:51

I am supposed to be going to an engagement do tomorrow night and have agreed to help with some of the organising, so you never know. If sods law is on my side, I may have to let them down and not make it Hmm. ohh, where have i put that nice underwear Hmm

Just had sweep and it's not looking promising. :-( Guess it will be induction on Sunday after all.

Roz14 · 20/08/2010 11:20

VickstaS - Why? Are you not getting any signs at all?

OP posts:
VickstaS · 20/08/2010 14:24

No, no signs other than frequent BH. Cervix still hard and long rather than short and squishy. She couldn't do the sweep properly cos of it. Hey ho.

Roz14 · 20/08/2010 14:29

I hope you dont mind me asking, but how was it. I am really nervous about having to have one done if i go over my EDD. Im a bit of a wimp I know Blush

Inzidoodle - I am 39+1 today as well. I too have got a little one to look after and it is exhausting even without hobbling on crutches!

Thanks for the reassurance about the sweep, I was hoping somebody would compare it to that. I really do hope you get your VBAC - have you tried using a birthing ball. It did the trick for me with my DS. Instead of rocking side to side, I bounced on it like a space hopper Grin and my waters went that very night. Don't know if it was that or just the fact he was ready to come out but I am sending my DH into the loft to get in down for me over the weekend.

IZD - they havn't given me a date for a sweep yet but I have got the same midwife as I had last time with my DS and she offered one 1 week over my due date.

A part of me wants to see the baby right now and another part of me would like her to stay where she is until the start of September, so that she won't be the youngest in the year as I was when at school Smile

Is your EDD the 26th then? They originally told me the 27th, then at the 20 week scan moved me forward a day. The thing is I know the date I concieved which is 39 weeks this saturday (28th), so who knows what dates to go on!!!

Roz, Sweep was fine, not painful, bit uncomfortable maybe, but no worse than a smear.

So are smears not that bad? I've never had one as I'm under 25 but the thought freaks me out...

DancingOnMyBladder · 20/08/2010 17:31

I'm still here!

At least another week of work is over Smile

Finish on Wednesday for good.

I'm feeling a bit let down by ALL my friends though- earlier in the hols i had all their DC's over to play at one time or another with the usual 'i'll give you a call and have yours round to us' line. Great i thought, just when i'll need the rest and a break the kids will be off my hands but being entertained. Granted you shouldn't give to recieve but i feel a bit let down that not one of them has returned the invite. Sad
