Hi all. I am 38 plus 5 days pregnant and just wondering if there is any MN out there getting a little impatient with all this waiting. I am getting a lot of sharp pains and some back ache but nothing that really indicates that I will be going into labour any day soon. Anyone else feeling the same??? My EDD is 26th August - the day after my birthday so am looking forward to a really speacial birthday present Smile

tweakers - thanks for the welcome. Another question.

What pain releif did you take if any post birth for episiotomy pain?

Roz14 · 23/08/2010 08:41

Morning everybody - nothing happening to me at moment. Welcome HelennCC, WttJ and Marzipana.

Great news Poppy and Jen - keep us posted Smile

sorry jungle (hope you don't mind that as a nickname!), didn't mean to ignore your questions earlier! The only baby that has arrived out of us lot is AnnaAug (that's what the smiley face means on our list!) Of course, others may have done and just not popped back. Anyone would think they might be busy with newborns!

NH disc? natal hypno? I'm sure its not too late to start now. As for the antenatal classes, I did some 2yrs ago and didn't find them particularly useful! They just seemed like a promotional event for epidurals!

as for the breathing thing.. do you mean for contractions or pushing?

I didn't have an episiotomy for DS but i did have a fairly substantial tear. I took arnica tablets to help with bruising/healing and paracetomol (gah, never know how to spell it!), oh and i made sure i wore the softest, thickest mat pads i could find! (the ones without the sticky tape to hold them in because i didn't fancy the tape getting stuck to bits it shouldn't do!)

morning roz Smile

Roz14 · 23/08/2010 08:52

Morning tweakers. Hope you are feeling well and have had a productive weekend with your order. Im just popping out to do some of the family visits rounds, before they all swamp me in the next coming weeks. Enjoy your morning Grin

yes it's my first, so normal to be late I suppose - doesn't stop me being grumpy about it though! I've been off work for so long and I'm so bored!

On breathing, I think just go for slow, deep and calming, trying to focus on your breath instead of the pain. Not done it before though so that might be a load of rubbish. And the midwife might tell you to pant at certain points too I think to help you not to tear (no idea how that works)

growingbump2 · 23/08/2010 09:21

Hi everyone so excited to see this thread and would like to join please. Am 40+3 with second DC. Actually not to annoyed at being overdue as have had a very hectic few weeks and was glad of some rest before arrival but anytime now would be fab! Had a lot of backache and twinges last week but nothing since Friday and am due to see consultant for my overdue appointment of Wednesday. Hope everyone else isn't too fed up, come on August babies!

Allegrogirl · 23/08/2010 09:23

I am now overdue, OK only by one day. Had 10 minute contractions last night and woke up to nothing except cramps and niggles. My annual leave is over and I am now on mat leave.

Feeling very impatient now.

Thanks for your list Tweakers. Still a few August babies yet to make an appearance.

cloveofhislife · 23/08/2010 11:37

Morning everyone, welcome jungle and marzipan. I am new here too.
40 + 3 today. Midwife has just been and visit couldn't have been more disappointing.
Cervix long, thick and tubal still, when she finally found it! It took her ages as it is very posterior and all the way round at 7 o clock.
Baby free floating and not in a great position. No where near engaged.
Had contractions last night, which were obviously nothing, even though they were every 10 minutes for almost 4 hours. Must have been trying to re position baby.
She can't see anything happening for the next little while and wants to leave me for another 5 - 7 days. So, her colleague will pop back Fri / Sat.
Anyone else post dates with the most unfavourable cervix ever? Hmm
This is my 4th and never had such a misbehaving cervix!!

Can someone reassure me? Sad

Has anyone else got any appointments today? How are you all?

cloveofhislife · 23/08/2010 11:40

Welcome also to growingbump2

Candinha · 23/08/2010 12:57

Oh dear I am glad I am not the only one getting anxious and impatient... I am due 30th of august and can't really get it off my mind despite having DC1 and DC2 to worry about as well. Feel baby is really low in the pelvis now but nothing happening apart from the odd sharp lower back pain!!

HelenaCC · 23/08/2010 13:54

Hello all I see there is a growing list of frustrated would be mums of August babies! Im stuck on my sofa after a MW appt - she discussed the possibility of doing a sweep at my house next week, but a lot can happen before then - bubba could well arrive!

Is there anyone else who thinks that it pretty much normal to go over your EDD? I know so many people who were late although my NCT group of first time mums have all been early so far! Different hospitals have different policies on how they treat you. I still think there is too much focus on medical interventions rather than just monitoring you and leaving the rest to come naturally!

cloveofhislife · 23/08/2010 14:07

Too true HelenaCC
I think it is normal to go anywhere between 37 and 42 weeks.
Outside these times it is premature or overdue. But I think we forget that at 41 weeks we are still conisdered term!
Very frustrating and I can barely concentrate on anything else in my life at the moment, but I am so in the range of normal right now.
I asked my midwife how many women actually reach 42 weeks and she said loads!
I also think that genetics has so much to do with it.
I have 2 children from a previous relationship and they both came at 37 weeks on the day.
I am now in a relationship with someone else and have 1 dd with him (40 + 5) and this one is 40 + 3 with time to go.

CakeandFineWine · 23/08/2010 14:23

DancingOnMyBladder · 23/08/2010 16:30

Oh well by the fact that no-one wants a queue jumper, it looks like i'll be last to pop!

:(

Cosmosis · 23/08/2010 17:37

definitely normal to go over, someone said to me statistically 5 days over due date is the average.

Have had a few period painy back pains today, but that's all.

tweakers · 23/08/2010 17:52

I've just been for a fast walk with DS to the shops and park..... and nope, not a sausage, apart from a headache which i suspect has got nothing to do with anything!

oh dancing, i don't mind if you fancy queue jumping really!

cosmosis my back's been aching again today as well

porcamiseria · 23/08/2010 18:17

look on the bright side, as august babies they will be the runts of the litter (I say that as an august baby myself), at least if late they are the oldest in school year? hmm, thin consolation I suppose....

cant beleive noone popping...come on!

tweakers · 23/08/2010 18:34

i know, that's what i'm trying to focus on porca but knowing my luck, she'll arrive just before midnight on the 31st! (this happened to a friend of mine!)

I've got the smileys ready to add to the list
SmileSmileSmile

come on, you know you want one!

DancingOnMyBladder · 23/08/2010 18:54

Major, Major BH going on here!

I've been getting them lots since about 15 weeks anyway and they usuallu make my wince but sat here tonight having my dinner, i kept having to stop eating till it passed. Nothing usually gets in the way of me and my food!

Also have a bit of a twinge 'down there'. BUT still have to work until Wed so she can't come till Thurs at least!

Have the midwife at 9am tomorrow so will see what she has to say.

Happy birthing all!

Will be using more EPO tonight to help ripen cervix.
Let's hope someone pops there baby out tonight!

Good night!

(anyone ever get imsomnia? As I may log in later as I normally do about 12 or 1)

Roz14 · 23/08/2010 22:09

Hi all - I have been feeling a little off today. Not sure if it is pregnancy related or a bit of a cold and upset stomach. I feel like Im getting cold like symptoms but at the same time feeling really sick and keep rushing to the bathroom with an upset tummy. I keep getting dull stomach pains but not sure if this is just because I am feeling off - sorry for winging
