GMTV are at it again-another survey about BFing

SofaKingFedUpOfSnow · 15/01/2010 07:01

here

I completed it out of curiosity. Some of the questions are really loaded and negative about BFing.

I've pointed out to them that they're not exactly unbiased as one of their major sponsors is nestle.

Excellent letter from LLL.

Not seen anything on GMTV or the mirror today.

Here you go folks - article here. Well done!

ProcessYellowC · 20/01/2010 08:07

yay!

Meglet · 20/01/2010 09:38

Not a bad article. Pity GMTV haven't even got the balls to back down.

I'm rather getting used to BBC breakfast news now .

Ineedmorechocolatenow · 20/01/2010 09:43

Ooooooooooooo that's not bad! Can't believe GMTV's response though. Have they read back their own questions? Balanced? I think not...

TheCrackFox · 20/01/2010 09:47

Actually, I think that was a very good article. I am very impressed with the Mirror.

StealthPolarBear · 20/01/2010 09:50

Gmtv yesterday defended the survey, saying: "Breastfeeding is a perennial subject. It always provokes discussion and debate.
Yes, because of idiots like you!

We always try to present a balanced view."
Did they say that with a straight face?

So does the survey still stand or has it been scrapped?

ShowOfHands · 20/01/2010 09:51

"Gmtv yesterday defended the survey, saying: "Breastfeeding is a perennial subject. It always provokes discussion and debate. We always try to present a balanced view."

A source added: "Nestlé have no editorial input.""

Yes, most subjects are perennial, you'd be hard pressed to find ones that are endangered. Maybe pandas.

GMTV survey on pandas

  1. Do you think pandas are
a white with black bits b black with white bits
  1. Do you find pandas offensive
a yes b mostly c sometimes
  1. How long should we continue to save the pandas
a a week b 4 months c shoot them all now

And 'we try to present a balanced view'. That's a disappointing school report isn't? Cleverly worded to make the best of a bad job. GMTV tries hard in the face of obvious challenges. Sadly, little GMTV's output isn't always a reflection of this effort.

And Nestle doesn't have any editorial input? I don't think editorial input is the problem, advertising allegiances maybe.

I suggest they amend the GMTV comment thus:

GMTV, yesterday defended the survey, saying " "

PuzzleRocks · 20/01/2010 09:55

I'm happy with that.

SpottyMuldoon · 20/01/2010 10:09

@ ShowOfHands!

KnottyLocks · 20/01/2010 10:11

Great stuff.

Their response makes GMTV look ridiculous.

StealthPolarBear · 20/01/2010 11:22

love the panda survey

nigglewiggle · 20/01/2010 11:32

Show of hands - are you sponsored by a synthetic bamboo company?

ShowOfHands · 20/01/2010 11:38

Not all of me, only my breasts, but I don't allow them to have control over my editorial output.

ShowOfHands and associated companies are committed to presenting a fair and unbiased view on pandas despite their evolutionary unworthiness and misrepresentation as cuddly bears.

BoobBuffet · 20/01/2010 11:39

Not bad from the Mirror. I was a bit worried that they'd take a 'lentil weavers get knickers in a knot' type stance, so pleasantly surprised!

StealthPolarBear · 20/01/2010 11:45

pandas are rubbish, shoot em all now. What you all want are some nice all white bears.

mistlethrush · 20/01/2010 11:48

If I remember my rant properly, I think that they've quoted me

mistlethrush · 20/01/2010 11:49

Oh, and well-done Sofaking for bringing it to everyone's attention!

MattSmithIsNotMyLoveSlave · 20/01/2010 11:49

PMSL @ ShowOfHands

chipsticksmammy · 20/01/2010 17:36

Wow - I wasnt expecting that from the Mirror. I was expecting a picture of a big jugged lovely, 22 from Nowheresville saying she was outraged and her boobs are for fellas only (See Nicola Macleans comments last year on BF)

Its not a perennial subject GMTV, its a non-story. Some babies are BF and some are FF. So what, just move on. We dont need a survey making nasty and snide remarks about BF at any time.

SofaKingFedUpOfSnow · 20/01/2010 19:14

The article's much better than I thought. Don't quite know why they bothered to wait for a response from GMTV. 'A GMTV spokesperson said "Meh" '

Justine Mumsnet was on GMTV this morning < somebody has to watch it to keep an eye on them> but no mention of the survey

LOL at ShowofHands.

Does this make me MN royalty? Or have reached the heady heights of nouveau (sp) riche?

OP posts:
PacificDogwood · 20/01/2010 21:21

Pleasantly surprised by article.

But at GMTV's "unbiased views" - what would have biased view been like, for crying out loud??

QueenOfFlamingEverything · 21/01/2010 07:57

'Breastfeeding is a perennial subject-- that provokes debate' my arse!

No, breastfeeding is the physiologically normal way for babies to feed. It is as others have said, a non story.

There are those out there who would like to make it a 'perennial subject' of course.

GMTV has

a) massive consumer influence
b) a bizarre anti-breastfeeding (and thus anti-baby and anti-woman) stance
c) a veneer of respectability lent to b) by the trotting out of a tame doctor (Hilary Jones) who appears to be unable to make the crucial distinction between fact and (biased, misinformed) personal opinion
d) financial backing from baby food companies

Hmmmmm.

trellism · 21/01/2010 11:23

Can anyone paste the survey in full? Otherwise I may have to get dh to dig around as nothing's ever truly gone from the internet.

arolf · 28/01/2010 13:49

trellism - it's copied out here one-of-those-women.blogspot.com/2010/01/sodding-gmtv-again.html
