GMTV are at it again-another survey about BFing

SofaKingFedUpOfSnow · 15/01/2010 07:01

here

I completed it out of curiosity. Some of the questions are really loaded and negative about BFing.

I've pointed out to them that they're not exactly unbiased as one of their major sponsors is nestle.

Interview here

StealthPolarBear · 16/01/2010 08:53

has it gone?

sambo303 · 16/01/2010 08:58

wow that dr hilary has some serious issues re women/breasts, on the gmtv "breastfeeding debate" page he says women should be supported to bf up to 6 months. I think he needs to do some research. Completed that joke of a survey, fuming. What is their aim, a campaign based on their "survey" that Britain needs laws outlawing breastfeeding in public as indecent?

bronze · 16/01/2010 09:04

where are the questions? (nosleepdimness)

MrsSantosloves2010 · 16/01/2010 09:14

Done - what a load of bolleaux. I have left comments. I hope they get slammed for this.

bronze · 16/01/2010 09:14

anyone?

bronze · 16/01/2010 09:31

just found the direct link post

ImSoNotTelling · 16/01/2010 09:47

"What a strange questionnaire. The questions are worded in a way which makes facts seem optional. Breast milk is more nutritious than formula. Breast feeding in public is a legal right. These things are simply true. It also seems to say that women who are breastfeeding are "displaying" their breasts. They aren't, they're breastfeeding a child. The women on the front of newspapers like the daily star, which is prominently displayed in public places, are displaying their breasts. Maybe you should do a survey to measure how offended people are by that, and whether it should be banned? Just a thought."

DiamondHead · 16/01/2010 09:54

The survey is now closed but the results are here -

bronze · 16/01/2010 09:58

I don't believe it!
I think they've made it up

QueenOfFlamingEverything · 16/01/2010 09:59

DiamondHead that is a different survey!

belgo · 16/01/2010 10:00

Diamondhead - that link is from May 2009, so another survey. I can't see the results of the most recent survey.

bronze · 16/01/2010 10:01

its still open here

Meglet · 16/01/2010 13:17

OMG the wording on that old survey, 70% of women defy the government guidelines . FFS.

I will miss GMTV, I like Kate & Ben .

foxytocin · 16/01/2010 13:28

I am wondering at the moment if this survey has anything do with Anne Sinnot's book which has just been published.

Nasty little survey, imo.

I had to comment on the question about how long should a woman breastfeed. Okaaayyyyy a woman can only breastfeed till she is 3!

and the one should a woman breastfeed in public.

erm, what do you mean?

didn't they mean should a baby be allowed to eat public? erm, thought not.

yep deffo bring the people with white coats.
and make sure they have straight jackets too.

littlemisslozza · 16/01/2010 13:35

I've just completed it too, it's worded to make bf sound weird and as for'displaying' my breasts in public - I've never done that!!

littlemisslozza · 16/01/2010 13:36

what I mean is that it is possible to feed discretely!

foxytocin · 16/01/2010 13:37

just filled it in on dh's behalf. all the answers including the outrage facts in the comments were his. had he filled it

PacificDogwood · 16/01/2010 13:44

Did survey, expressed my outrage disgust disappointment...

MrsKitty · 16/01/2010 19:58

Just watched the video - I loved the look on Greenmonkies face, and the squaring up of her shoulders when "Dr" Hilary starting talking . Fabulous viewing - well done!

Also, mentioned the survey to DH last night - came home from shopping today & he'd done it too (and was suitably outraged).

TrillianAstra · 16/01/2010 20:09

Done survey, complained in comments box.

ItNeverRainsBut · 16/01/2010 22:39

Hang on. They did a survey at the time GreenMonkies was on, and then another in May 2009, and now another. WHY do they keep on doing this?

TeddyBare · 16/01/2010 23:06

Has anyone had a reply to their comments yet? Were you writing your comments in the end of the survey or sending a seperate rant message to them? I did both.

bronze · 17/01/2010 10:15

Is the green monkies interview anywhere else because I cant get the veoh thing to work

cakeywakey · 17/01/2010 10:32

Nice to see the way they're going with this already. Unfortunately, GMTV probably has a lot of sway with some people - I hope it wouldn't put Mums off from breastfeeding, or make their families and friends less supportive of their decision to BF.

And on the nutrional comparison - I can remember very clearly from a depressing programme about teen pregnancies recently, a new mum saying to the documentary maker 'No, I'm not breastfeeding. This (formula) is powdered breastmilk anyway, isn't it." The doc man was like "No, I don't think it is."

I'm not anti FF, but do worry that BF is not fairly portrayed. The fact that someone might see a breast in public - God forbid - seems more important than children getting a good start in life. Hope they'll be campaining to get rid of Page Three then, or is that ok?
