GMTV are at it again-another survey about BFing

SofaKingFedUpOfSnow · 15/01/2010 07:01

here

I completed it out of curiosity. Some of the questions are really loaded and negative about BFing.

I've pointed out to them that they're not exactly unbiased as one of their major sponsors is nestle.

cakeywakey i was totally at that girl on that programme. She even got out the tin of sma and showed him, the poor bloke presenting it was like !!

My rant comment:

"Are you completely in hock to baby formula manufacturers?

There's no "think" about it - human milk is nutritionally superior to any synthetic formula. It's a scientific fact. If you're breastfeeding, you're doing the best thing you can for your baby, and you deserve public support, not tuts and stares.
Women feeding their babies are not 'exposing their breasts' in public, they are feeding their babies. Here's a hint, people who disapprove - look away!

This is the most ridiculously loaded and negative survey about breastfeeding I've ever seen. Shame on you, GMTV. Through your insinuation that breastfeeding is something that should be hidden away, or something strange for an infant over 12 months old, you make it harder for mums to do what's best for their kids.
Shame on you."

I've no idea if it will make any difference, but aaaaah, I feel better!

bronze the interview with Greenmonkies was on the ITV site but they only used the first 4 minutes or of it. It was edited to look like if Dr Hilary Twat Jones got the last authoritative say. The edited the way it was he sounded very condescending of breastfeeding.

OmicronPersei8 · 17/01/2010 15:57

Is that you greenmonkies? If so you were fantastic! (and gorgeous). I started to get twitchy but you said everything I wanted to - thank you.

CrosswordGeek · 17/01/2010 22:46

Is it inappropriate giving the thread to say that greenmonkies boobies looked really good?!

Also, that Dr Hillary has really pissed me off. Grr.

Fibilou · 18/01/2010 13:26

Oh my word I just watched that patronising nob on the videolink and just want to stab him

JustineMumsnet · 18/01/2010 14:17

Just had a call from the Daily Mirror who have picked up on this discussion and are reporting on it for tomorrow's paper.

Ineedmorechocolatenow · 18/01/2010 14:35

Hooray!

Hulla · 18/01/2010 15:03

Fantastic!

MollyRoger · 18/01/2010 15:24

eeek. Can only imagine what sorta slant the mirror will give such a story
''foul mouthed mums get their knockers in a twist''
''GMTV Dr is a twat - say breastfeeding Muffia''

etc etc

PacificDogwood · 18/01/2010 15:26

Oh no, does this mean I will have to look at The Daily Hate tomorrow ?

TheCrackFox · 18/01/2010 15:47

Well, I hope that the Mirror take a positive slant. After all, I find it very worrying that a GP doesn't know the current guidelines for Breastfeeding. It is also dubious that GMTV seem to commission a BF survey every 6 months whilst being sponsored by Nestle.

arolf · 18/01/2010 21:00

have you seen this www.lactivist.net/?p=769

PacificDogwood · 18/01/2010 21:12

Thanks, arolf, for linking to this!
'Tis excellent!

You go, LLL !

JustineMumsnet · 18/01/2010 21:13

Just to keep you all posted it's not going to make tomorrow's paper they tell us because GMTV only got back to the Mirror with a comment late in the day but they say it will be in the day after.

StealthPolarBear · 19/01/2010 08:10

ohh so tomorrow now! Bump
Hope they make a good job of it

StealthPolarBear · 19/01/2010 08:13

fantastic letter from the LLL, although IO'm amazed they didn't mention the "do you think breastmilk is nutritionally superior?" question

DitaVonCheese · 19/01/2010 08:54

Just noticed you can join GMTV's feedback panel here ... ;)

PuzzleRocks · 19/01/2010 08:56

Fantastic. Good work everybody.

Fibilou · 19/01/2010 09:50

For those posters here that naively think Nestlé are philanthropically donating the milk can I suggest you have a look at

BabyMilkAction

Fibilou · 19/01/2010 09:52

Sorry, posted last on the wrong thread !!!

belgo · 19/01/2010 09:55

'The survey asks if women should be ?allowed? to breastfeed in public. In fact the mother is not breastfeeding, the baby is,'

I didn't notice that when i did the survey but it's hilarious

TeddyBare · 19/01/2010 13:26

Is there an update on the article yet?

PacificDogwood · 19/01/2010 15:54

Marking my place.

Any news?

Ineedmorechocolatenow · 19/01/2010 18:15

Bump. Guess we'll have to wait for tomorrow to see the article... not holding my breath that it'll be as well worded as the LLL letter...
