GMTV are at it again-another survey about BFing

SofaKingFedUpOfSnow · 15/01/2010 07:01

here

I completed it out of curiosity. Some of the questions are really loaded and negative about BFing.

I've pointed out to them that they're not exactly unbiased as one of their major sponsors is nestle.

  1. Do you think a woman's breasts should not be displayed in public for any reason?

I had to read this question about 4 times to ascertain whether I needed to say 'yes' or 'no' and whether the double negatives were intentional or not...

Horrid survey.

Lymond · 15/01/2010 11:28

Filled it in; shocking questions.

Is there anyone we can complain to about the negative bias in the questions?

picc · 15/01/2010 11:32

had similar thoughts, noblegiraffe! Every example you can think of for a bad survey. Double negatives, leading questions.... etc...

And gagamama, same here. Had to read it a few times too. In the end, my only consoling thought was that people who don't read it properly and are narrow minded about BF will probably press 'no' (ie thinking "no I don't think they should be on display" but actually saying "no i don't think they should not be displayed....")

So that at least works against them?.... er... or have I read and understood it wrongly too???

terrible terrible survey!

alana39 · 15/01/2010 11:37

Just done, thanks for bringing this to attention (not a big GMTV viewer so will be easy to boycott ). I was really shocked at the wording - not just the negative feel of it all, but you have to read the Qs carefully due to a couple with double negatives as gagamama said.

Mhairi100 · 15/01/2010 11:47

I'm a marketing manager - good grief, it's a rubbish questionnaire. I love it when people say it's fine to breastfeed in public if you're discreet - discreet is rather difficult if your LO ALWAYS comes off the breast as soon as your milk lets down

KnottyLocks · 15/01/2010 11:50

Have emailed the info to La Leche.

pokemonmum · 15/01/2010 11:59

still fuming

TeddyBare · 15/01/2010 12:32

Are GMTV always anti bfing? It seems a really odd stance to take. Is it because of their resident doctor?

jaggythistle · 15/01/2010 12:32

Have completed survey, was too shocked to comment, might have to do it again.

Currently mning via Wii while feeding S so typing is effort.

StealthPolarBear · 15/01/2010 12:40

hi kinderella
yes a few of the double -ves puzzled me too
results of the survey (my prediction); we all know breast is best as long as you stop at 6 months and it's done discreetly in public. Maybe express and give a bottle. And if you don't want to bf that's fine too cos formula is just as good.

sweetnitanitro · 15/01/2010 12:45

I did the survey and left a rant few helpful constructive comments in the box. What a ridiculous survey!

CrosswordGeek · 15/01/2010 12:46

What age do you think a woman should stop breastfeeding?
3-6 months
6-9 months
Up to 12 months
1 year or over
2 years or over
3 years or over
As long as the infant wants to be fed
Other

How stupidly worded. I didn't realise 3-6 month olds could even BE mothers, let alone breastfeed. Well done them!

God I hate the media.

StealthPolarBear · 15/01/2010 12:47

lol

mafog · 15/01/2010 12:48

Dire. Have completed it with a few comments.

eagerbeagle · 15/01/2010 12:54

Filled it in and left comments about what a load of old poop the survey was

Suggest we cross link onto AIBU which should get even more annoyed MNers to respond.

LoveTheCarbs · 15/01/2010 12:54

Me too, gagamama. That question was confusing!

I agree with everyone. That survey is totally geared against breast-feeding. Why? They should be encouraging mothers. It is one of the best things you can do for your baby, if you can, and is so rewarding.

PurpleEglu · 15/01/2010 12:55

I have filled it in and as someone who only bf my boys for 2 and 4 weeks respectively it annoys me too.

moaningminniewhingesagain · 15/01/2010 13:01

I've just filled it in too. Have stated how offensive the tone of the questions is etc.

They are appalling scum aren't they.

Hulla · 15/01/2010 13:21

I've filled it in and sent it to a few people on fb.

I wonder what Kate Garraway thinks about it all? Isnt she a GMTV presenter? I'm sure she is quite pro-bf.

Whiteybaby · 15/01/2010 13:25

Just to add another voice to the class dismay! Have filled it in and made v long comments about negative and inflammatory questions suggestion bf a wierdy beardy idea! Also amused at the idea of 3 months old's bf in public!

Isn't it sad that bf has such a negative response from so many.. Such a lovely experience to be able to have (if you can) I don't understand why it causes people so much distress to see. I was shocked at being declared a "mumsie tree hugger" for wanting to bf my baby. Surely its the most natural (and cheap) option?? Like someone else said, imagine a world where public production of a bottle was scowled upon!

PS no offence intended to mumsie tree huggers

Ineedsomesleep · 15/01/2010 13:28

I've filled it in too and passed it on. Found some of the questions very misleading and have made some comments about Nestle and their violations of the code.

iggi999 · 15/01/2010 13:38

On the contact us link on their website, there's a further "complaint" bit to click on - then you get a form you can fill in. I've just done it, though finding it hard to express what it was that's so wrong about the wording of the questions. Can feel my blood pressure rising as I think about it!
