come and say it here please, let's get them all out in the open and in one place.
So far today I have seen a comment along the lines of "don't know why you bothered" to someone who was please to have reached 6 months of excl bf, and an incredibly rude and unhelpful comment on a thread started by a woman who was worried that her supply would be affected by her DH giving their 10 day old a bottle of formula. Snotty comments (whether to bfers or ffers) are NOT WELCOME on those sorts of threads, so go on, offload here.

Oh, before we start, some myths I'd like to bust:

  • Improved health outcomes of bf babies are not down to social class - that has been accounted for
  • People bfing past 3 weeks / 6 months / a year are not doing it just for their own sakes
  • It's not only OK to bf in public "if it's done discreetly"
erm..sure more will come up

This is the one area of MN i never 'get'.I FF as was on meds which crossed into breast milk and they were life saving for me at the time so I had no choice.I would have BF otherwise and know inteleectually that it is better for the child on many levels although i feel my son hasn't suffered either iyswim.I am not insulted by the breast is best brigade as I know its right but there are not many formula feeders who will admit that.It is up to the individual surely but none of us can deny the facts we just have to accept them. Will sit back now and watch battle commence

I will say one thing. I never got bf before, never understood the importance of it, didnt really much care either.

I dont feel like this anymore.

I am pleased to have almost reached 6 mos with DS, bf. I ff my others after a few weeks. I wished I had carried on with them but had no support. I am glad that I at least tried though. My sister has very strong views on those who 'don't even try to bf' but I am more open minded having both ff and bf.

SunglassesPolarBear · 03/05/2009 12:58

don't think that was arsey, perfectly reasonable and in the spirit of the OP. As a breastfeeder I get personally annoyed by the comments in one direction, but there's no need for either of them!
Marla, are you raising your eyebrow at me or noddy?

OP posts:
SunglassesPolarBear · 03/05/2009 13:08

Why do my rants never last for more than one post?

Divvy · 03/05/2009 13:10

I never judge a bottle, it could have breast milk in it for all I know, or care

SunglassesPolarBear · 03/05/2009 13:11

WHat if it has coca cola in it?
(Trying to get argument going again...)

OP posts:
Divvy · 03/05/2009 13:13

SunglassesPolarBear · 03/05/2009 13:14

What about Red Bull? (urgh)
Coffee (three sugars)?

I smile at women if I see thenm BFing. Do you think they think I m a freak?

Then again I generally smile at women with babies, so if I see a woman with a baby and a bottle I'm also quite likely to smile.

Is that OK?

SunglassesPolarBear · 03/05/2009 13:18

yeah TA you're not really getting the point of the thread...

OP posts:
SunglassesPolarBear · 03/05/2009 13:19

you can't just come on here and start smiling at babies and their mums! This is meant to be where you deposit your venom so it's not inflicted on other OPs

OP posts:
TrillianAstra · 03/05/2009 13:19

Sorry, will bog off with my crazy smiling ways.

SunglassesPolarBear · 03/05/2009 13:21

come back when you have something judgey and/ or insulting to say

OP posts:
noddyholder · 03/05/2009 13:23

Well imo tits are for tassels Will that do ya?

SunglassesPolarBear · 03/05/2009 13:24

OP posts:
TrillianAstra · 03/05/2009 13:24

My MIL thinks that anyone who doesn't BF isn't trying hard enough. Shall I get her over here? Or is this thread only for insults in the other direction?

(DP says he will never ask her how long he BFed for in case its too freaky)
