Had my 28 wk growth scan on monday as ds was low birthweight. Baby is only 970g which is only like 2 lbs.

Been off sick for three weeks and dreading going back to work tomorrow. On the bright side its only for two weeks and then I'm on annual leave for a month and then maternity leave starts in October. Woohoo!

In terms of baby shopping I bought scratch mittens yesterday :o

shoppingstar · 22/08/2010 15:58

Hope everyone is having a relaxing weekend.

My nesting seems to have begun - so clearing out a cupboard and need rid of some jeans that I have been given or bought cheap in the sales and don't fit. Happy to post on a first come basis if anyone thinks they can use them.

Next black bootleg 14R. Under bump style with expanding panels at sides.

South vintage wash bootleg jeans 14L and 16L. Under bump style with expanding side panels. Sized on the small side.

I can measure if required, especially the South jeans as neither fitted me Blush

shoppingstar · 22/08/2010 16:00

lilrahi - only 2 weeks of work Envy , then lots of time to pamper yourself. . .

FourEyesGood · 22/08/2010 19:44

honeymoo I get the same thing sometimes with my bump; seems to be caused by heat and certain foods (and orgasm Blush). It sort of goes hard along the centre of the bump for a couple of minutes. I don't think it's anything to do with working the stomach muscles too hard - no-one could accuse me of that! Grin

bunnygirl80 · 23/08/2010 04:44

honeymoo my bump does the same when I try and use whats left of my abs. When I go to pregnany aerobics we do lots of exercises aimed at toning our abs and you can see everyone's bump go into a pointy shape. SO I think it's normal

I've definitely started nesting - have been emptying out cupboards and completely rearranged the house. And I've started getting the urge to bake lots of cakes as well.....not sure if this is pg related or just me being greedy Smile

cluelessnchaos · 23/08/2010 09:38

Lilrahi i thought that was quite a normal weight for 28 weeks no idea what actual weight mine is

Babybean1 · 23/08/2010 10:32

Hello All

Sorry i havent posted for agggeess! Time really is flying by! Have tried to keep up with posts but probably missed quite a bit so will just go from the last few if thats ok :)

Have had such a busy weekend and am really feeling it now! It was my DH 40th on Thurs, i had arranged a party for him Friday so was all systems go! My Birthday was on saturday so another day of socialising and celebrating and then my cousins whose is the same day as mine so a bbq yesterday! Makes me tired just thinkink about it!! Was lovely.....but must say, i am glad its over and i have a restful bank holiday to look forward to!

Was lovely seeing lots of people at the party that i havent seen for a while and bump was the topic of conversation with most which was nice!

Does anyone else seem to get people constantly commenting on the size of their bumps?? Out and about and people in work keep telling me im really big still having 10 weeks to go and im starting to get a bit of a complex!! Shop assistant in Somerfield told me i had a lovely neat bump the other day and that was much nicer!! Will post a pic when i get the weekend ones up loaded on my pc and would welcome anyones opinion as to if i really am huge or not!!

shoppingstar if no-one else has beat me to it, i would sure be very grateful of the black bootleg and the bootleg jeans (14L) I seem to have grown out of all but 1 pair of my trousers (most of which are a 10-12) so hoping the 14 would be ideal. Dont really want to go out and buy more when i dont have too long left so would be fab :) Of course will happily pay postage etc.

Would of suggested i pass on my small clothes but a friend of mine at works daughter has grabbed them all im afraid - sorry.

honeymoo i used to get that when i sat up from laying down. Midwife told me off at my 25 week appointment and said i should be rolling onto my side to get up instead of straight forward as it can damage my muscles!! Not quite sure how to do that one in the bath though!!

Finish work on 21st Sept!!! :o Have to use all of my Annual leave for the year in about 2 half months, and am only able to carry over 5 days, hence the early finish date! Will be nice, but imagine i will be twiddling my thumbs for a few weeks waiting for baby to arrive (well thats if im not asleep all of the time!!! :)

Have been feeling so tired and had iron levels checked at 28 week app. Found 2 plus glucose in my urine, but MW said it was probably down to what i had eaten as both iron and glucose came back ok. My iron level is 11.5....anyone else whose feeling exhausted know what their level is??

blondecat · 23/08/2010 11:28

honeymoo
got it too. Only realized when ob-gen showed me what happens when I sit up from lying down flat
He called it "the alien effect" and said it was the top of the uterus showing through. Like an inflated balloon inside. Nothing to worry about - I only marvel at how big it is already! Smile

CardiCorgi · 23/08/2010 13:04

Hello, oh dear three weeks worth to catch up Shock
Abs, abs, I remember having some of those once, not sure where they have gone and yes, my bump looks funny if I try to sit up from lying flat.

Babybean my iron level is about the same as yours and I feel ok, but my levels are always fairly low. Has your dropped a lot since the beginning of the pregnancy?

DH and I have had a nice holiday, now trying to remember what it is I do for a living. Family were pleased to see up and the bump has been the centre of attention. I'm now being rewarded for this my having a foot stuck into my ribs at random times of day.
Our sailing course was great, we both got our Day Skipper certificates and despite the wind and waves I wasn't seasick (unlike DH who lost his dinner over the side during our night sailing exercise).

Reality has still not quite hit despite the growing bump - are we really going to have actual babies in less than three months?

On the stocking-up theme, our midwife suggested wrap-around vests rather than the sort that go over the head for a newborn. Anyone here with any experience of which they prefer?
Also, are special breastfeeding tops worth it? I've seen a couple with strange baffles and slots to get your boobs through, isn't it less hassle to just hoick your top up/down and wrap a scarf round you and the baby?

hmmSleep · 23/08/2010 13:06

honeymoo, I don't actually know what my iron levels were, I was on holiday when I got the message on my mobile. Don't think they can have been too bad though as it didn't sound urgent and the iron tablets kicked in so fast. I have another midwife appointment on Thursday so will ask then.

Think I have midwife appointments every 2 weeks now until baby is born, seems a big increase from only 3 in the first 28 weeks!

Babybean, I think people just forget how big a bump gets, I feel huge myself and get lots of comments, but I measure spot on for weeks as I did in previous pregnancies, so I think you probably are average in size, it's just that average looks pretty big! Post some pictures, I'm very nosey!

hmmSleep · 23/08/2010 13:13

CardiCorgi, I liked the wrap-around vests for when they're tiny, you feel a bit less like you're going to dislocate their little shoulders trying to dress them!

As for breastfeeding tops, I found just normal easy to lift up tops tops, but with a vest or bump band worn underneath was best. For some reason I was more conscious of exposing my post baby belly than my bare breasts!

Threelittleducks · 23/08/2010 13:20

Babybean1, I too am HUGE!!
Measuring 3 weeks over my due date too - so feeling horrible and weighty.
And nobody misses a chance to let me know either. :(

Bump has moved down though - think baby has possibly lightened as can suddenly breathe again!!
Anyone else?
Pressure in pelvis is def. increased (which is joy with SPD) and is a bit of a pain (in all senses) but somehow it's better as makes me feel as though progress is being made :)

bytheMoonlight · 23/08/2010 13:30

Hi, lurker reporting back in!

My GP told me my iron level should be 11.5 but it is actually 11 so prescribed me tablets.
I haven't taken them yet though Blush as I have heard they constipate you and I don't think 0.5 drop is too much to worry about is it?

4madboys · 23/08/2010 18:17

hello ladies, lots to catch up on!

i am almost 27wks! cant believe how quickly this pregnancy is going, but have been busy with it being the holidays and having all four boys at home all day, lots of relatives visiting etc and dp also went away for a week with work.

suprisingly i got loads done whilst dp was away, think i am def nesting Blush and i am feeling fairly organised. l am lucky tho as i had pram, carrycot, slings, sterilser, breast pump etc already from ds4 :)

re vests, i am buying some of the wrap around ones, just for the first few weeks as i think its easier just to lay baby on them and do them up, rather than trying to get stuff over their little wobbly heads. i got some on sale in pumpkin patch and also h&m had some that were cheap, they had long sleeved ones as well, which i thought was good with these babies being winter born :)

i have booked myself a private scan for the 5th sept when i will be 28wks, just to check the sex of the baby as i cant quite belive that its a girl! tho given how sick i have been feeling and the fact that the midwife at my last app said girl as soon as she heard the heartbeat i should think that the sonographer was right at the 20wk scan :)

my bump has def popped out and its lovely to lie and watch my belly move as the baby wriggles and boy is this one wriggly, she reacts to noise so when the boys are being loud etc she starts to kick :)

i think i am fairly lucky in that i dont have any aches and pains yet, so far this pregnancy is progressing very smoothly, and fingers crossed it continues to do so.

hope everyone else feels better soon, re iron i have taken the liquid iron in other pregnancies, but my iron levels were 12. something at last check so am not taking any at moment.

the floradix stuff and spatatone? i think are the liquid ones, they taste FOUL but are meant to help prevent constipation.

oh i know i got a new sling the other day, not that i 'need' it as such, i already have a wilkinet, two ring slings and a close carrier, but this one is a moby sling and i bought it off another mnetter, its lovely and i cant wait to use it Grin

right time to get dinner on, just have to reheat a pasta bake i made earlier, i am being scarily organised with cooking and housework at the moment, it must be the nesting!

shoppingstar · 23/08/2010 21:26

Babybean1 I'm not sure how MN works - can you message me your postal details?

tiany · 24/08/2010 07:56

Hi! have my 28 wk appt this morning... hoping I dont pass out at the sight of needles ;)

honeymoo on the cone belly, happens me too when try use my abs. My pilates teacher has told me to try avoid it.. doesnt do any harm but it engourages the white strip between your abs to widen. She said can all go back after with excercis so not to worry but if i see myself doing it i try to stop...

tiany · 24/08/2010 08:02

Sabie, Blondcat -- how about the first w/e in October for meet up then? I am away w/e of sept 17th and organising my sisters hen w/e which she has moved to London for me on Sep 24 w/e....

otherwise I could prob meet up any weds after work?

Any one else interested please come along :)

comtessa · 24/08/2010 10:07

Hello all! Been off messaging for a few days as had one of those 24-hour sickness bugs last Wednesday which ended up with me and DH at the emergency out-of-hours GP service - me with head in bucket, DH dutifully emptying it as needed, and asking sensible questions of the Dr while I tried to stay upright. Eurgh. Thankfully cleared up by Friday so we were able to get away for DH's birthday weekend only a day later than planned.

Re: Spatone - the good thing is you can mix this with juice, which helps your body absorb it better and I can't taste the spatone once it's in the juice.

Threelittleducks and Babybean1, I keep getting told I'm huge too, DD was measuring three weeks ahead at last scan. However, am reassured by MW who points out that as I'm 5'8" and DH is 6"2', then DD is likely to take after us. Also, I feel like I'm huge when I look in mirror, but looking at photos taken over weekend, I actually don't look that ridiculous. Have decided on new tactic for anyone who makes a "you look huge, when are you due?" comment. Will answer "oh, any day now" (cue hand to bump, looking as if I've just felt a contraction.) Ha! That should make them scarper. :o

rollerbaby · 24/08/2010 10:54

Hi ladies

Relieved to hear alien belly isn't just me. Am being much more vigilant in getting in and out of bed etc.

I would be up for a meet up but that weekend is looking bad for me, although I'll be off work around then so midweek could be a goer. Failing that we should definitely aim for a post baby meet up!

harmonyb23 · 24/08/2010 11:18

Hi everyone, sorry haven't posted in ages have been so busy lately. Have been made redundant and so have had major crisis trying to sort out mine and DP finances. Claims for benefits seem to take so long and I'm not even entitled to claim Job Seekers so have only my sons £20.00 a week child benefit and my DP wages to live off of until everything gets sorted.

On a lighter note all is going well with the pregnancy. Baby seems to be kicking harder and harder and is very active! We have re-painted baby's room to cover marks on the walls and have built the cot and changing table. Just need to purchase a wardrobe and add finishing touches; border, lampshade, curtains, etc. and it'll be ready for baby's arrival.

Am now 28 weeks and can't wait for baby to arrive, it will be a nice end to an otherwise stressful year! Hope everyone is well... Speak soon! x x x

Babybean1 · 24/08/2010 13:38

Shoppingstar i tried to send a private message but it says you dont allow contact from other mn's :) my email is [email protected] if its easier to start that way? ....and thank you :)

Not sure what my iron levels were before Cardicorgi The notes in my book are so confusing that most of the jargon they use means nothing to me :o

Loving that idea comtessa! Its weird as im actually measuring a week smaller (well was at my 28 week app) so have just been telling people that up until now.....but liking your idea better! :o

Ok so heres a pic for hmmsleep and others to see the 'HUGE' bump!!
I dont feel it looks that big really and seeing as i am 5.7 and DH is 6.3, i guess odds are it will be a long one! :o

Anyway - hopefully it works! If not they are in my profile so just click on my name

Bump!

nomoremagnolia · 24/08/2010 17:33

harmony sorry to hear about the redundancy - hope you get everything sorted financially.
babybean lovely bump pic, I'm v jelous as a lady in M&S said to me last week that she wasn't even sure to ask me if I was pg! Am 31 weeks tomorrow and feel definitely bumpy but not huge. DH came home on Sat and was surprised by the size of the bump, though I was only 14 weeks when he left, so I guess to his eyes it was quite a change!!

balijay · 24/08/2010 19:14

Hi everyone, hope everyone is ok. Sorry, another one who hasn't posted in ages, but I do like to catch up when I can.

Am nearly 28 weeks and everything progressing well afaik, although won't see midwife for another couple of weeks (I just can't get to the antenatal clinic before then). Lovely midwife did leave my HiP grant form and MAT B1 to collect from reception tho, so grant form has gone off in the post. Baby is v v wriggly which is nice, although have horrible lower back/hip ache a lot of the time (am a childminder carrying babies around a lot of the time so will just have to put up with it and hope it doesn't get much worse!)

Feeling fairly organised too - have my pram now, moses basket, bottles, clothes etc, etc, just need to get my hands on a sling.

Just keeping my fingers crossed now that I don't put on too much weight this week as I have to fit in my bridesmaid dress on sat for my best friends' wedding Smile

Question Will I have more blood taken at my next midwife appt or did you all have to go back to the hospital for that?

Take care

FourEyesGood · 24/08/2010 20:25

balijay I have my 28-week midwife appointment tomorrow (at the GP's surgery, not the hospital) and she'll be taking my bloods then.

nomoremagnolia · 24/08/2010 20:32

I had 28 week bloods done at the GP surgery too - by a nurse rather thanb the m/w though
