Morning all! Has anyone else tried spatone iron supplements? I was given some by a friend. They're safe to take during pregnancy and they're liquid, which apparently makes them easier to absorb for your body. I started taking them a few weeks ago and really noticed a difference in energy levels. [http://www.spatone.com/shop-online/] I usually only suffer from full-blown anaemia in winter, for some reason, but you can be affected by low-iron levels without having anaemia, I've been told... HTH

KiwiKat · 18/08/2010 13:51

My fingers have started getting tingly when I'm lying down - looks like carpal tunnel syndrome is coming my way again, although not bad yet. Anyone else getting this?

Pidgin · 18/08/2010 15:26

Kiwi I sometimes get that after I've been asleep - tingly or numb hands/ fingers. It tends to wear off quickly though. I'm trying to ignore it for the time being...

Rinnyx · 18/08/2010 17:45

Dont worry bunnygirl80 I am one of them pain in the ass people that likes everything done yesterday Grin
Cant make a start on my bag til my sure start grant is done and I cant even get that signed by the midwife til I am 29 weeks now, they have changed it to a week later Angry
Ah so I'm not alone addicted dont know if I should do my bag shopping in Tesco or boots as I have points cards for both haha

Oh does anyone know of a good but not over costly insurance company that would cover me for my trip to Spain as most I look at would not cover once I am past 28 weeks and I will be 33 weeks when I fly :(

addictedisgettingexcited · 18/08/2010 18:10

rinnyx bag shopping is good in tesco its quite cheap, picking up bits that you cant get from boots, thats what i did anyway!

No idea on the insurance company tho.

Rinnyx · 18/08/2010 18:15

Hopefully Tescos own mat pads will do the job

I have come across this company that cover up to 36 weeks www.ravenhallgroup.co.uk/
But almost £50 for both of us Shock will have to see what DP thinks, just filled out online for our Euro health card things

umf · 18/08/2010 21:15

Rinnyx thanks for the tip for the insurance company, that's really useful. I've only found up to 32 weeks before.

kiwi was it you asking about sinus? I've been using decongestant spray although the packets say don't use/consult dr first. DH investigated and reckoned there was a largely theoretical risk of temporary blood flow reduction if you overdosed. He informs me that the sprays work by shrinking the blood vessels in the nose and so if you took too much they might affect vessels elsewhere in the body inc across the placenta. He found one study which showed this might be the case, and one in which there was no effect. But expect you'd want to check the evidence yourself against your own risk tolerance.

So I just used the spray, but even less than the recommended dose. Have to unblock sinuses cos if get blocked nose choke and vomit. V cross still to be being sick so frequently at 26 weeks.

Remarkable exhaustion here too. Can fall asleep while talking, which annoys DS no end. Also carpal tunnel and this unbelieeeeeeeeevably painful varicose vein in groin. At least I've been assuming it's a varicose vein; going to dr tomorrow to check.

Also think am having problems with blood sugar. Get very tired and even rather confused when hungry. On Sunday woke up late and couldn't see properly, all a bit worrying.

They do a routine mini glucose tolerance test for gestational diabetes here (Cambridge, London), then a full one if you have a positive result or other symptoms. I had the full one last time cos they thought foetus was big. Pretty ghastly, all that lucozade. Oddly they don't do the routine GTT in Sweden, which is usually my gold standard for antenatal comparisons (much lower maternal death rate), possibly because of the high false positive rate.

Vix7 · 19/08/2010 12:38

KiwiKat
i'm close to the Wapping/Tower Hill area. aiming to start maternity end sep. :D

also, if you're having problems with your sinuses, have you tried nasal irrigation/neti pots? DH and I use a fair bit. at the beginning when it starts feeling a little congested, the irrigation washes out the gunk.

am getting the tingly fingers/numbness/swollen fingers. whoopeee.

in other news, the fit to travel letter actually 'paid' off! check-in counter staff in germnay 'upgraded' us to speedy boarding. guess that £25 was not in vain.

Mibby · 19/08/2010 15:39

Hi all

Had my 28 week midwife app this morning, all well, bump growing nicely and heartbeat was fine. Got the next one in three weeks, same day as the first hospital baby class

Have been given a fair amount of clothes by lovely friends but have a whole bag of blue things. We're having a girl, am i being weird not to want her in blue?

Gaga82 · 19/08/2010 16:12

Hi,

How soon it has gone from most people feeling great to aches, pains and discomfort creeping back in. Could this be our warning sign that the 3rd trimester is looming...?!

Had 28 week app on Mon, all fine but bump measuring at 29.5cm. Am telling myself it was due to a hot day and huge late lunch, but we shall see at next measuring session. Got HIP form, result. Have now ordered pram as well only to read about hospital bags - just when I think I have caught up! Thick question, but what sort of things are you putting in?

Looopy how did NCT go? Ours starts in 3 weeks, DH cannot make our first two - bit rubbish. I am taking along a friend who has vower to remain child-less throughout life, this may seal the deal for her!

addicted that sounds a sensible decision about the car. How annoying it must be for you though.

My sis-in-law is now in her 3rd day of labour with our new nephew (first 2 days was waiting for inducing drugs to kick in, they broke her water yesterday afternoon) trying not to think about it...Just the thought makes me need a nap!

Gaga82 · 19/08/2010 16:13

Oh, and how many pages can you have on a thread before it gets full? I have no idea of a new name or how to start one, but don't want to lose everyone!

KiwiKat · 19/08/2010 17:51

Think it's a thousand posts before the thread closes, so we'd better come up with something clever toot d sweet!

Vix, I'm in Bethnal Green, so not far from you at all. Glad you got to travel in comfort during your holiday.

Umf, it sounds like you're having a rather rough time of it. I hope that varicose vein proves to be less painful, for starters!

cluelessnchaos · 19/08/2010 19:11

Grrr I am really fed up with the 7th midwife I have seen in 7 appointments, especially as I was asking if I could still have a home birth after spotting a few weeks ago, she was very dismissive of me, barely read my notes, I had to ask the same questions 4 times and still didnt get a satisfactory answer, I had to remind them about my thyroid bloods, query whether I got my anti d injection because I had one 2 weeks ago, I came home and burst into tears, I asked 3 times if I was going to see the consultant again and was fobbed off. I cant imagine how I would feel if this was my first. On one hand they are saying that everything is fine so I dont need to see the consultant but on the other saying I am too high risk to be cosidered for either home birth or midwife led unit, and that is without the opportunity to discuss it with the consultant or lead midwife, I was given another appointment for 34 weeks which I have no confidence that I will see someone I have already seen or someone else new. Sorry for the rant, on the upside I contacted a yogabirth instructor who sounds lovely and said I can start classes or one to one as of next week.

addictedisgettingexcited · 20/08/2010 06:47

cluelessness, i'm sorry your mw are being so rubbish. if its any consolation i too am having consultant led care, but the consultant signed me back over to the mw's as she felt everything was fine but the mw's are still saying i'm too high risk for mw led unit Confused
i really hope the next time you go you see someone you've seen before, i mean how many more mw's can be working in your area! Smile

does any 2nd timeer here have strep b? i have a few questions and i'm too impatient to wait 2 weeks untill my next appointment!

cluelessnchaos · 20/08/2010 09:51

Thanks addicted, I am amazed at hom nay midwives they can pull out, we live in the middle of nowhere, when I lived in the south east of england and in edinburgh I saw maximum or 3 midwives my whole pregnancy, I dont know if I have jsut been unlucky or if this is normal for here, anyway I have called and left a message for the lead midwife to call me back

tiany · 21/08/2010 06:44

hey mibby i dont know whether we having boy or girl but once i do i thinki will want very girlie or boyish clothes aswell ;)

EXHAUSTED all the time aswell, have my 28wk appt on tues so hopefully will know if iron levels low... might be something to do with fact i just cant seem to get proper nights sleep... hence the early post!!

Anyway hope you are all well and have a lovely w/e !!

Sabie · 21/08/2010 10:21

Hi all,

I hear you all re tiredness! The feeling of a lack of energy all the time is not fun; I have mw appt next week so I'm sure will have all the iron checks etc.

I was wondering about a London meet-up? I've picked up we have people in Bethnal Green, Wapping and Pidgin said she was somewhere in North London as am I. Anyone from outside of London would of course also be welcome! What do you think? When is the best time for people day/evening/weekends? (I know some work, some have kids already, think it might be tricky to agree a time but shall we try?)

tiany · 21/08/2010 12:34

Hi SABIE i am in SW London... i am on for meeting up. Weekends or Thurs/Fri evenings prob best for me...

Rinnyx · 21/08/2010 18:38

Feeling so drained and tired you can not believe, I'm guessing I am not alone tho?

Oh just to let you ladies know if you go into boots they do a pack of 10 maternity pads (boots own) for 99p, I picked up 2 and going to get 2 more next week I think.
Also I think the is only afew days left but they are selling Johnson baby wipes (64 pack) for £1, again I bought 2 but might go back again Monday to see if the offer is still on and buy aload more.
Got some breast pads but the was no offers on sadly but going to start on my hospital bag now I think

Loooopy · 21/08/2010 22:03

gaga NCT was heaps better than i expected, i was the only one who didn't have anyone with them, but the others were all really nice and welcoming, 8 couples in total, all similar ages, didn't really cover much content, more of an ice-breaking session, and i hadn't laughed so much for ages - however i discovered that laughing hurts now bump is bigger!! quite looking forward to the next one now :)

wedding we were going to was yesteday, dress was lovely but was aching heaps and bailed by 11.15 and think will take a couple of days for back to ease off as the mattress at the hotel was rock hard!!

off to check out boots website now :)

and yay re x factor being back....as no motivation to go out anymore in the evenings!!

blondecat · 22/08/2010 08:53

Tiany Sabie
SW london too but not too far from centre
Great idea of meet up!

blondecat · 22/08/2010 09:12

London meet up girls forgot to add that since I lost my job I am available for a meet up most times
Except when my PILs are visiting bank holiday we and my mother 3-11 September.

Haven't been posting much either ESP not during the last three weeks holiday/ late honeymoon. So hopefully you will allow me to join you!

Nct starts in 5 weeks for me I think as I'm due 24 november. I guess that's also the reason why we have bought zilch so far. Waiting for 28 weeks - just out of superstition I guess. But the SAS flight attendant on our Oslo journey gave me one of the little plush toys he has for kids on the flight for the baby. Her first toy! He also said good luck with a v serious expression. Sounds like a new father to me. It made me v happy. Such a difference a gesture makes. Especially after some not so friendly - oh no pregnant woman what will she want - type of treatment from others.

hmmSleep · 22/08/2010 10:16

Back from a fantastic holiday in Isle of Wight, ds turned 3 whilst we were away and had a great birthday, where does the time go!

Started taking my iron tablets 5 days ago now and the difference in my energy levels is unbelievable, feel sooo much better, (apart from the dodgy tummy side effects).

I've also been using nasal spray, my allergies seem to have been terrible since getting pregnant and can't breath through my nose at all if I don't, gp said should be fine, but as he didn't give me a prescription the pharmacist was a bit reluctant to sell me any. They did though, and they knew it was for me, so I'm guessing it must be OK really. I only use it once a day though, before my evening meal so I can breath whilst eating and then it normally lasts long enough for me to get to sleep too.

rollerbaby · 22/08/2010 13:24

Can't believe people have already started NCT! I'm due 31 Oct and I don't start until the beginning of October... eek.

Can I ask, does anyone have a funny ridge down their stomach when they sit up in the bath or in bed (i.e. use their stomach muscles to lift themselves up). Mine does whenever I do this, and sort of goes cone shaped. As soon as I relax it's back to normal, but it is worrying me a bit. No one has told me not to use my tummy muscles but I hope I haven't overdone it.

rollerbaby · 22/08/2010 13:24

hmm what were your iron levels before you started taking tabs?
