Ah vix7 what a pita - 7 days for a standard letter!! Are they sorting it for you?

Vix7 · 09/08/2010 18:14

balijay, the doc says she will leave a note for the secretary when she comes in to say this letter is URGENT so that i can pick it up tomorrow evening.

annoyed cos at no point in time was i informed it would take so d*$& long!

now if the secretary doesn't type up the letter i may not be able to go on my holiday!

balijay · 09/08/2010 18:26

Would suggest making a complete nuisance of yourself tomorrow with hourly phonecalls... that should do the trick Wink

Fenouille · 09/08/2010 19:21

Vix that's outrageous - and it will only be a template letter, so Angry for you. I hope they agreed to do something for you in the end?

Smithy if your office chair is hard you could try either getting work to change it to something more comfortable (if it's a big firm) or an air cushion to sit on. The midwife I do ante-natal classes with has one like a bit like this (but smaller, can't find a picture with google).

Fenouille · 09/08/2010 19:25

Ah, x-post. Definitely call tomorrow, be nice as pie and lay it on thick about it being your last chance at a holiday with your DarlingH/P before the baby arrives Wink

fromheretomaternity · 09/08/2010 20:36

I can get to sleep ok as so tired but keep waking around 2/3am and not being able to get back to sleep (last night ds started bawling about that time, that did it). Was up for an hour and a half last night. Luckily not working today but only cos I have a bit of time off - am scheduled to work till 37 weeks. Hmm not sure that was a wise decision.

tiany · 09/08/2010 21:14

hmmsleep Saoirse, means freedom and pronounced like sear-shah

thanks honeymoo.. going to order some pillows, i manage to fall back asleep at the moment but just wake up lots through the night...

Lucia is pretty! Luca on my list aswell :)

smithy i have on and off pain in my hips and also shouder blades which is from my ribs going out of place!!!! mental!... anyway have found Chiropractor and Sports Remedial Massage to give me most relief.

kyuri i asked my friends/mam the same about cot.. friend lent me a co-sleep for the first few months and says having baby right next to you is great for nighttime feeds... but if ur cot will fit in your room then u can prob just use that. Apparently i was in cot from time i was born.... i think i might put little one in the cot for day naps to get them used to it.. then in my room just at night??

bunnygirl80 · 10/08/2010 04:07

Pidgin people keep telling me I'm blooming, but I think that's actually just a polite way of saying I'm looking chubby!! I keep telling myself it's only temporary

vix that's rubbish that it will take a week to get a letter. FLying's really easy over here - all the domestic airlines will let you fly right up to your due date without a note, as long as you're not likely to go into labour on the flight. Not entirely sure how they tell whether you're about to imminently go into labour though, and it's not as though domestic flights in Oz are short hops.

kyuri my SIL tried to sleep her LO in his cot from birth, but he wouldn't settle in it for the first few months as he didn't like being in something so big. They just put him in the carrycot from his pram until he was big enough to tolerate his cot

I feel like a totally new person today - had the best night's sleep last night from 9:30pm to 7:30am and by some miracle all the pain I had been getting in my pelvis/bottom of my bump has totally disappeared GrinGrin

Vix7 · 10/08/2010 10:23

argh. i called up the clinic and they say they usu take a week and that i can't expect the doctor to produce a letter on such short notice. im going crazy here!!

the recep has said she'll speak to the secretary to check that the letter is getting done but she can't promise. and that when i made the appointment i didn't say WHEN i needed it by. erm...shouldn't they have told me that it takes THIS long for a letter? or am i being unreasonable to expect a simple doctor's letter on the day itself?

Vix7 · 10/08/2010 10:41

update: clinic recep called me back and says the secretary has told her the letter will be ready this afternoon.

fingers crossed....

Kyuri · 10/08/2010 11:07

Morning all

Thanks for the responses re cots. It would fit in our room, so at least we know it's an option. Will wait and see closer to the time I guess.

Phew Vix sounds like you will get to go on holiday after all. What a stress. I'm heading back to Dublin for my sister's hen night in a couple of weeks so will ask my MW today for the letter when I see her based on your experience!

Had my growth scan this morning as part of the research study and all looks good. Growth is average (isn't it funny in pregnancy how we all want to be average?!). Apparently in the 13 weeks since the last clinic appointment I've only put on 5 lb and my body fat percentage has actually gone down. Weird. I know that over the whole PG I've put on about 11lb though so most of it was obviously in the 1st trim. MW quote: "babies are mercenary critters and will take what they need from you even if you don't have it to give" so weight gain apparently not a concern at the moment which is a relief.

Tiany I'm Irish too, with a husband who has an Italian surname :) Sadly he has vetoed any Irish names as he doesn't want to pair Irish and Italian. Shame, as I am loving the boy's name Oran at the moment.

Currently bargaining with someone to get the hypnotherapy CDs second hand, along with a birthing ball and the Ina May childbirth book. Am getting quite into the whole haggling thing :)

comtessa · 10/08/2010 12:50

Hello all, glad to hear you'll get your holiday Vix7 - sounds like you'll be needing it now!

Kyuri, interested to hear about your weight gain. I gained 2st up to week 21, and since then have only gained a couple, seem to really be stabilising now. Hoping the same might be happening to me now in terms of body fat!

bunnygirl80 that's great that you're feeling so much better, the world seems a brighter place if you're feeling well! Personally am enjoying this stage of pregnancy so much - lots of care and thoughtfulness from colleagues, friends and DH, but not yet size of house so still cycling around the neighbourhood and going for long walks.

Happy Tuesday all xx

Sabie · 10/08/2010 17:26

Can't believe I had to catch up on so much when I only posted on Sunday! And I can't remember who said what...

Re; cots - I have a moses basket to use initially and then hope to move to cot-bed.

Re; cushions - I love my dreamgenii; the DH says it gets more cuddles than him; however I'm not having trouble sleeping (and I don't know how those of you who are, are coping!)

Re: Irish names; tiany thanks for the girls suggestions, I'm trying to call the kicker by name out loud several times a day to see what it sounds like.... Italian; I love Luisa but can't think of any others right now...I'll have a think...

Re: Vix; did you get the letter? Hope so!

Question;
are any of you using a bump band/support devise? I do quite a lot of walking as part of my job and the bouncing is causing a bit of pain. Any recommendations?

I was recommended the 'BabyCentre' website as you could arrange to actually meet other mums to be. I joined November 2010 and asked to join a meet and they wouldn't let me because I hadn't posted enough. I feel a bit peed off about this but maybe I'm being unreasonable? Any of you live in North London by any chance?

umf · 10/08/2010 19:42

Hello! Haven't posted in ages, so have only read August's posts as a quick catch up.

lad to hear that the various scares have worked out ok.

Love all the names, inc Meredith (on our now-defunct girl shortlist), Eliza, Tobias, Tess (Theresa?), and the Italian ones, especially Lucia - and how about Chiara?

In moment of insanity weighed myself the other day. Have gained 11kg. Was at max ever overweight anyway, so not very pleased about this. Hoping not to gain much more in 3rd trim.

Terrified by how ready some of you are. I don't have to buy much stuff this time, which is a relief because I found it all quite difficult to get my head round last time, but do need to turn DS's room into shared room for both of them, get everything out of loft, put together crib and cot, etc etc.

Now the summer hols, though, so preparations will have to be postponed until autumn.

Submitted phd thesis about 3 weeks ago. Phew. Viva 21st Oct, by which time will be 36 weeks...

No Braxton Hicks here, except one remarkably painful contraction the other day.

umf · 10/08/2010 20:46

Forgot several whinges: spd so can't walk more than few hundred metres a day (but have some pilates exercises which help), crushingly tired, %*^%$ varicose vein in groin.

Pidgin · 11/08/2010 07:30

Hi all

Congrats on submitting umf! I have a friend who had her viva six days before her due date. They should give you the chance for regular breaks/ opportunities to move around if you need them, which might help? Also, if your examiners are both men, a bit of heavy breathing after tricky questions might be enough to change the course of conversation?!

Sabie I live not that far from you (Muswell Hill area, right?) if you want to organise a meet-up? That's bloody annoying BabyCentre wouldn't let you go to one, sounds a bit petty and playground to me! Anyone else in north or west London?

Did you get your form, Vix?

Wallace · 11/08/2010 07:33

Hello al, quickly posting so I don't slip off this thread!

Kyuri · 11/08/2010 08:37

Great news on the submission umf, I submitted mine 3 days before my wedding but reckon finishing it while pregnant must have been WAY worse. Am in awe :)

Honeymoo am a little further away from you than you might think....Edinburgh in fact :) scan yesterday showed placenta in right place but baby in breech position although I know no one gets very concerned about that yet, still plenty of time for it to turn. Reckon birth ball will be getting lots of use to persuade LO to do a headstand.

MW appt went fine yesterday avo. Got the form for the HiP grant but no fit to fly letter as the flight is more than 2 weeks away. Have to go back to see her nearer the time which is fair enough I guess. MW asked had I been aware of any braxton hicks and said no, but then last night as I was giving bump an airing on the sofa (am I the only one who likes to get it out nightly and give it a polish?!) noticed a few times it going hard but never for very long and only that I could see it, I wouldn't have been aware of it. Is that braxton hicks?

Today's random wonderment as I drove down the road to work - what should I wear in labour....?

Vix7 · 11/08/2010 12:27

Hey all,
for everyone who's wondering...
i got the fit to fly letter! £25 for 2 lines. Sigh. And no one in the lon airport even asked or glanced at the bump. So I'm either small for bump age or I've managed to disguise it really well.

Am chilling in hotel room watching movies on demand before gg out later this afternoon. :)

trying darnest to not check blackberry every so often.

Hope you ladies are having a lovely midweek!

Kyuri · 11/08/2010 12:50

A charge for a fit to fly letter????

Holy moly. Hadn't even considered that I might be asked for payment!

comtessa · 11/08/2010 13:26

Hello all, Sabie I was given a Boots bump band and find it better than the H&M bump bands I bought at the weekend. It's really good for covering the starting-to-appear gaps between under-bump trousers and even my maternity tops. Can't believe I've got a whole 3.5 months to go - how BIG am I going to get?!

Just out of interest, anyone here live in Nottingham?

smokeybacon · 11/08/2010 13:32

I do comtessa

dairymum · 11/08/2010 17:38

Pleased to see i'm not the only Scot on this thread. I was beginning to think so.Grin

Really jealous of all those going away on holiday. Looks like we're not getting anywhere before schools start back. Sad Usually have a holiday in October hols but am a teeny bit unsure this year, even though i'm totally expecting baby to arrive late.

shoppingstar · 11/08/2010 17:52

Thanks Gaga - I'll have a think about baby books and maybe a hypo CD too.

Rinny that all looks lovely and clean and organised.

Although I certainly don't like to hear of others discomfort - it is reassuring to know that many of us seem to have slipped from "blooming" to "pained insomniacs" at the same time. I have the 3am wide awake thing but I initially thought it was our new mattress and didn't click that it was probably pregnancy related. And since last night I've had horrible trapped nerve pain in my left buttock.

Vix I think you should get a new GP - that is ridiculous.

Hi dairymum I'm also north of the border (Glasgow).

shoppingstar · 11/08/2010 17:53

that would of course be a HYPNO CD - not a jungle animal recording Grin
