Lol at Hypo CD. You'll probably sound a bit like hippo in labour Grin

I'm also North of the Border - near Aviemore :)

PortiaPony · 11/08/2010 20:24

Another Scot here (well, originally Irish but been here for ages!) I'm outside Linlithgow.

hmmSleep · 12/08/2010 11:07

Just back from 28 wk midwife check. All seems fine, she took bloods and checked urine sample, checked blood pressure, listened to heartbeat and measured bump, I'm spot on for dates. Also got my HIP from, yey.

Shoppingstar, I read it as some kind of weird hyperactive CD, quite the opposite to what you're wanting I'm sure!

Does anyone know what their DC weighs at the moment/at last scan? DD1 weighed (I don't know how they can tell) 2lbs at emergency scan at 23 weeks, which about three weeks ahead of guideline/average weights etc. I'm getting huge, too, but not due until 27th November.

Hello smokeybacon, I'm a fellow Nottinghamian (not sure if that was clear when I asked!)

Wallace · 12/08/2010 17:07

I'm 25 weeks and read that the baby is supposed to be 660grams, I think.

hmm - glad all is good :)

Rinnyx · 12/08/2010 17:48

Just a quick post as got to dash again but just to let you know it might be worth popping down to your local ASDA
Just been in there and the is lots of baby stuff on sale, I got the advent temp blue flower for £7, normally £14 something I think plus you can use it for bath & room temp and baby can use it as a bath toy also :)

I'm starting to slow down now I have noticed also finding it hard to sleep at night due to restless legs and last night had to get out of bed and walk the room as baby was giving a good kicking, the 5 min walking around the room seems to settle him.

nomoremagnolia · 12/08/2010 19:26

Hi all,
Sorry I've not been on lately, a few things have been going on here. Had a growth scan and consultsnt appointment last week at 28 wks - diagnosed with anaemia, had anti-d injection and had glucose tolerance test which showed I have gestational diabetes, so I'm feeling a bit sorry for myself. Also suffering from not sleeping, partly due to worry partly due to baby being wide awake at 4am.
I've got a maternity support belt thingy from mothercare after pulling a muscle in my side - I have to say it took a day or so to get used to but it really helps support the weight of the bump (2lb6oz last week at 28 wk scan) and is helping me remember to take it easy too.
Hope everyone's well, despite the insomnia

umf · 12/08/2010 19:33

nomoremagnolia that sounds miserable! should think you're feeling rotten. hope things settle quickly and the gd is manageable. think will order self one of those belts.

4madboys · 12/08/2010 20:05

hello ladies, sorry to hear so many of us are having aches and pains etc :( hopefully they will ease of a bit? i find that i do get the odd day where i ache, am knackered etc but its normally when i have been really busy, done lots of walking etc ie this week i have had three trips to town to get the elder three boys new school uniform, shoes, pe kits etc etc, spent a SCARY amount of money, so its a good job i have been given a big bag of baby clothes 0-6mths and dont really need to buy much!

i sorted them all out today, ie piles of little vests, babygrows, cardigans, little outfits etc. i have quite a lot unisex and then a pile of girly stuff which i am finding VERY odd as i am so surrounded by the 4madboys and all their stuff normally!

with regards to sleep, mine has been a bit shite this last week but i think its because i was panicking a bit about sorting stuff out, feel better now i have uniforms and some baby clothes, have also bought muslin cloths, some blankets and some cheap underwear for myself for end of pregnancy/just after baby is born.

we already have car seat, a pram in the loft to reuse, baby will sleep in our bed as the others have done and umm i am not bothering with a baby bath.

oh i also have slings already, so i really just need to get a grobag or two, nappies, breastpads and all those maternity towels that you need after the birth.... etc.

saw the midwife for a check at 25wks, not my usual midwife, but she and her student was very nice, they listened to baby and immediately said GIRL because heartbeat was so fast and i then said that the scan had said girl :) anyhow all fine, blood pressure nice and low, measuring spot on for dates blah blah blah, got HIP form Grin adn have to go back in 3 or 4 wks to get bloods done and have a quick check up etc.

sorry that seemed a mamoth post, but havent been on for a while.

((((to all feeling achey and tired)))) hope everyone manages a to get some decent sleep and rest asap xxx

rollerbaby · 12/08/2010 20:29

Yes here's hoping we all get some sleep tonight!

Can I ask for recommendations on maternity pads? Not sure if Always or specific maternity ones?

4madboys you sound v v v organised. I've hardly got any newborn clothes so far! Do you always put the little vests all in ones under their babygros? Or just the vest under their babygroes? I can't work out the layering!

Duritzfan · 12/08/2010 20:55

Hi all

I cant keep up with you all !! I really am going to try much harder from here on .. I had a very tricky time getting pregnant and staying pregnant and so I think to an extent I have been in denial ... I always had the 24 week viability date in my mind ..Now two weeks past that I am starting to feel like I really am going to come out of this with a baby this time Smile

I need to get cracking I think as I see so many of you have bought prams and done nurseries ... Shock

I have bought a few baby things for my hospital bag - that was the week I turned 24 weeks !!

Time to get organised I think ..I ordered a steriliser today - so .. small steps !

anyway .. we are expecting a little girl and I am about to book a 4d scan for a couple of weeks time ..
Haven't got any names yet ..keep deciding on one and then changing my mind !

Am struggling this pg with spd .. am desperate to do something so am trying acupuncture in the morning in the hope that I can get some relief ...its going to be a very long third trimester if not ....

tiany · 12/08/2010 21:57

I am SW London.... happy to meet up with few locals at some stage over the next few wks if suits.

Kyuri... funny on the irish/italian.. I have never heard Oran before actually... i like it.

Chiara... thats lovely actually adding to my list ;o)

I can see my tummy moving lots now.. like a little alien in there, i absolutely love it :)

bunnygirl80 · 12/08/2010 23:48

comtessa I've got no idea how much my baby weighs, but his thigh bone was 4cm long at my scan at 23+6. I think they work weight out by comparing thigh bone, abdomen and head measurements to standard charts which say if measurement is x then weight should be y.

nomore sorry to hear you're having a rough time

honeymoo I'm glad you asked about the layering as I'm finding it all really hard to understand. I'm just glad that my LO will be born in summer when the average temp will e in the 30s so all he'll need is a vest and a nappy for the first 3 months at least. Hopefully by the time our winter arrives I'll have figured out what layers go where and when Grin

tiany I find seeing my tummy move slightly freaky. Poor DH is too scared to look at it Hmm

My latest moan is that baby seems to have moved himself right up to the top of my bump and wedged his head into my stomach. I can't eat more than a couple of mouthfuls of food before it feels like it's stuck halfway up my oesophagus. Had to sleep propped up on three pillows last night to stop the associated heartburn. In fact the only pillow left in our house that I'm not using belongs to DH and I'm seriously considering waiting until he falls asleep and stealing it from under his head Grin

Duritzfan · 13/08/2010 00:23

sabie
I'm in babycentre too and I joined the same group for meet ups - and they turned me down too ...
I am in Brighton though so too far to meet up unless you are ever headed down this way ..

hmmSleep · 13/08/2010 08:25

honeymoo, just buy the biggest pads you can find for the first few days, it really is quite amazing how heavy the flow is to begin with! I found Always just didn't do the job.

As for layering, I put short sleeved body suits on under babygro on a warmer day, long sleeved if cold, just the short sleeved bodysuit without babygro if very hot. The poppers on the body suit help keep the nappy in place!

Rinnyx I found wearing flight socks in bed really helps with the restless legs thing, although can be a bit hot and look a bit Hmm.

Sorry to hear about the gestational diabetes and anaemia nomore, hope they can manage them for you.

Duritzfan, must be nice to finally feel like you can relax and enjoy things a bit more now Smile. I haven't bought anything other than a few baby clothes yet, planning on rushing out early October when dcs are back at school / playgroup to get everything done last minute!

Off to the Isle of wight for a week today, not looking forward to the car journey down, lots of wee stops I think, but really looking forward to the break, dh and lots of extended family around to help with dcs. Fingers crossed the weather improves!

Morning all, am being prolific poster ATM as am doing receptionist temp job which gives me several quiet moments in the day.

nomoremagnolia sorry to hear about your aches and pains. Is the maternity belt helping yet?

Duritzfan welcome and that's great news that you're doing so well with your LO. Congratulations and hope you're able to enjoy your pregnancy.

Wallace just did quick conversion, and 660gms is about 1.5lbs. I've been checked for gestational diabetes but nothing came up. Thankfully MW appt next week so wil be able to fire questions at her then.

hmmsleep glad to hear all is well, and thanks for the layering advice.

Happy Friday everyone, here's to sleeping well tonight.

Mibby · 13/08/2010 10:51

Hi all

Im in Nottingham too

Off work today with a streaming cold DH decided to share with me, bump is not liking all the sneezing :(

kyuri I get my bump out for a nightly airing too, odd to see the movements now as well as feel them

Cot sheets all arrived today too, are 4 sets enough ? Im not sure how many of things to get

dairymum · 13/08/2010 13:16

Finally remembered to make appt with mw, supposed to be 25 weeks then 28 weeks but kept forgetting to make 25 week appt so will be 27+5 weeks, 2 in 1 Grin.
Think i will be ordering a support too if midwives can't get me one. Cant walk any distance without feeling like i'm carrying a hippo. Wink
Would def reccommend maternity pads for days after birth. I've started stocking up already, same with breast pads.
honeymoo layers depend on temp of room baby is sleeping in. if you mean babygro sleeping bags check out their website as they have a good guide on how many layers.

Hope everyone has a restful and relaxing weekend. Unfortunately i won't cos i'm working Sat and Sun but going to see Calendar Girls in Glasgow on Monday so at least that's something to look forward to.!Grin

4madboys · 13/08/2010 13:25

the reason i am organised or seem organised is that a friend gave me two massive bags full of baby clothes Grin and i had a few bits put away from my elder 4.

my youngest is 2yrs and 4mths, so not really that long out of the baby stage and still have pram, slings, changing mat etc etc so not really much to buy :)

with regards to maternity pads, for the early days i have always found the boots ones to be good and often they have them on a buy one pack get another pack free, or three for the price of two etc etc. fwiw in the early days i put TWO pads in my underwear, for comfort and to help against leaks, and then went down to one pad and then used heavy flow sanitary towels etc and i just used cheap cotton underwear, cotton as you dont need anything chaffy or likely to give you thrush! either m&s granny knickers or something similar and cheap from primark :)

re cot sheets i would say 4 is prob ok, unless you have a really sicky baby when you may need a few more? depends how quickly you can get things washed and dried, do you have a tumble dryer? the one pita about winter babies is getting everything dried after washing!

i use grobags tho and plan on having two maybe three of the 0-6mth ones, i need to buy those as i gave them away after ds4 grew out of them.

oh adn clotheswise i dont have any newborn size, i have 0-3mths given then ds4 was 10lb 13oz i am not expecting a small baby! tho as this one is a girl it may be smaller so i have been told? but my other boys were 9lb 3oz and 9lb 5oz, so i dont do petite babies! and really i ONLY have the clothes as i had some left over and because a friend has a 9mth old and she gave me all her stuff :)

and yes i always put a vest underneat a babygrow, they hold the nappy in place! very important, if its hot just a vest, but as these are november babies they will need a vest and a babygrow all the time and maybe a little cardigan depending on how warm your house is :) i remember with my first panicking about how hot/cold he was but you do get used to juding temp quickly enough and dont rely on how their hands/feet feel as a babies extremities are often cold, its best to feel the back of their neck or their chest :) and in general they need one more layer than we do :) i hope that helps :)

my bump is also really wriggly and i lie on the sofa at night and pull my top up so dp and the boys can see/feel her moving, they all love it! as do i, tho not so much at 4am!

right i have squabbling children and a whiney toddler so had best get off the pc!

btw i dont claim to know everything or even be right, parenting is very personal and we all find our own ways of muddling through but hope i can offer some useful practical advice to first timers, i remember how daunting it all seemed! but YOU will be FINE i promise xxx

BorisTheBold · 13/08/2010 13:30

Afternoon ladies,

Thought I'd pop in and say hello! Sorryt o hear about all those suffering from aches, pains, GD and insomnia (I know all about that from my previous pgs).

Everything is going well for me, have booked in my hols and will be finishing work on 15th Oct with ML beginning 1st Nov - can hardly wait! Dp and I are off all next week with DD1 and DD2, so loads of day trips planned, as our last holiday was spent on duty visits to family in Scotland and Cumbria.

No major issues for me and baby, had mw appointment this week and she found heartbeat very easily despite my flab Grin. Baby is kicking pretty much constantly (and none to gently either). Dp didn;t believe me until we watched a film together and it kicked him around every six seconds Smile. I've got a growth scan booked for 2nd Sept (30 weeks) and then another one at 34 weeks to make sure this one is in the correct position and not too big - this will determine the liklihood of a planned CS. Keep your fingers cross for me as last two were VD and I'd like to keep the tradition!

Other bid news is that dp and I have finally set a date for our wedding. We've been together for 13.5 years and will be getting hitched in May next year! Am very much looking forward to it, although it wont give me much time to fit into a slinky dress, but who cares!

Hope you all have a lovely weekend.

Pidgin · 13/08/2010 17:04

Congratulations on the wedding date Boris! You don't need time to fit into a slinky dress anyway - wedding dresses are what the corset was invented for, surely?! Grin

4madboys, thank you very much for your calming and informative words of advice. It is really helpful to get answers to these practical questions that you can't really ask anyone, and I really appreciated your 'you will survive, you can do it' message, which is v v good to hear.

Sorry to hear about everyone's aches and pains, especially your anaemia and GD, nomoremagnolia. Hope everyone is able to rest up this weekend.

honeymoo I think I read a thread on here recently about maternity pads? I have put several packs of the Tescos ones into my virtual shopping basket as several people seemed to recommend these. I also think I am more likely to buy them if I don't actually look them in the face (so to speak) and get put off by their general hugeness... I think the same principle works for disposable pants...

Happy hols hmmsleep! Fingers crossed for some sunshine for you.

And enjoy the theatre, dairymum! Can I ask a related question re: grobags - if you use one, do you definitely not use blankets, or can you use both? And would you go for a grobag from birth or blankets first? (Sorry if this has been asked before!)

Happy weekend ladies.

nomoremagnolia · 13/08/2010 18:32

Thanks for all the sympathy, I'm just feeling down about the pg being so medical again - I thought once I'd got pg that I could just be like any 'normal' pg lady, but I guess that wasn't to be. I'm also getting tired of doing it all on my own, DH is home in a couple of weeks but it's been a long 4 months without him here to share all this with - though having you guys and MN has been a lifeline for all my questions and worries.

nomoremagnolia · 13/08/2010 18:32

And congratulations on setting the date boris :) that's lovely news

cluelessnchaos · 14/08/2010 06:58

Nomore you sound like me, I just want a normal pregnancy without being prodded and poked like a bag of spuds, my dh works on an oil rig so isn't away as long as yours but 2 weeks on every four, he has missed every scan ( and there have been a fair few of those) but then I think none of the others were straightforward but I had normal births with them all so keep focusing on that, my next worry is that dh is offshore until the week before I am due, but the last two were late so this one surely will be too. Are they able to manage the gest diabetes with diet, I haven't had my test done yet for that one, I am also wondering if I need the precautionary anti d at 28 weeks because I had a shot at 26 weeks?
