Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Rinnyx · 26/05/2010 19:08

I guess like hmmSleep said it might be a case of where you live or even the midwife as like I said mine said they dont do it till 19 weeks here but she was nice and still did it for us but did warn she might not find it but guess we were lucky

Since yesterday I have felt what is like a trapped nerve on my lower left back, hopeing its just growing pains or something

Ebb · 26/05/2010 19:21

Pidgin That's one of the reasons that the mw wouldn't do it as you'd end up, understandably, worrying. I hope you have better results with your Doppler.

I, apparently, have a slightly low platelet count. I think 'normal' is 150-400million per millilitre of blood and mine is 140 so they'll recheck at 28wks. From what I gather it can affect Clotting and may cause bleeding during and after labour. Mw said something about not being allowed an epidural if count doesn't return to normal. Didn't have an epidural last time but never say never!

Sabie · 26/05/2010 20:49

Hi all, love the new thread title.

I definitely want a bigger bump if only to get a seat on the tube! I agree, being symptom free is NOT reassuring...I preferred having a bit of nausea!

Now, I'm off to do the girl/boy quiz!

Sabie · 26/05/2010 20:55

Girl apparently!

What was all that about: heels of the bread and directions of pillows!

cluelessnchaos · 26/05/2010 21:30

Marking my place

Booboobedoo · 26/05/2010 21:33

Ebb - I'd check that stuff the midwife said with the obstetrician if I were you.

I have a permanently low platelet count (it is tres mysterious), and certainly would have been 'allowed' an epidural if I'd requested one.

KiwiKat · 26/05/2010 21:52

That's very strange about not checking the heartbeat until 18 weeks - must vary between hospitals. I had my 12 week scan on Monday (at 13 weeks) and they let me hear it then. I keep thinking I can feel the baby moving but I think it's just wishful thinking. Up until now I've been pregnant, but suddenly - I'm having a baby!!! Does that make sense?

bunnygirl80 · 27/05/2010 00:05

Thanks for the new thread hmm - I love the title. I think I have half flump half bump. The lower part that sticks out in my pelvis is really firm and is definitely bump. Higher up it's all soft and is clearly fat not baby - it think all the fat from lower down has been displaced upwards

boo glad your DS is on the mend

blondecat I do keep stroking my bump but I think I sometimes do it as a way of reminding people that I'm not just getting fat

Pidgin · 27/05/2010 07:41

Sabie I thought those questions were especially weird too! Apparently if you want the crust of the bread you are more likely to be carrying a boy, and if you prefer the middle a girl ... maybe it's a sweetness thing? As for the pillows, I have no idea - worked out that mine points west - transgender, maybe?!

Hope your back is feeling better Rinny - I was reading yesterday about sciatica in this stage of pregnancy, do you think it could be that? (symptoms are sharp pain or tingling in back, bottom, hips, I seem to remember)

dairymum · 27/05/2010 09:13

I did the boy/girl test too and it came back 50% boy. So i guess that means 50% girl too!

I had my blood test etc on monday and am anxiously waiting results. I never worried at all with dds1+2.
My flump is definitely getting bigger, but think most of it is too many crisps in the evenings! But it most be noticeable cos woman in village shop asked if i was expecting again. Dangerous question!

SomethingSuitablyWitty · 27/05/2010 09:36

Hello all! Nice to see the new thread. I'm more flump than bump myself for sure.

Ebb sorry that the midwife appt was a bit disappointing. I am not in the UK and I also had an appt last night. I was 15+4 and they listened for the heartbeat and found it immediately with no difficulty. So I find 19 wks surprising. But I guess it is to avoid stressing people if there is any difficulty finding it for reasons that may be absolutely not sinister.

Rinnyx I have also been getting a shooting pain in my lower back, especially in the evenings and very bad some days. It is right at the part of the lower back where the two dimples are - so the sacrum apparently. The midwife told me that it is normal and due to the effect of hormones on those bones and she said that it was a good sign - insofar as it means the hormones are doing their stuff and that this kind of pain can augure well for a faster birth! So erm, it's good news hopefully!

Smokey hope you are feeling fine again. Worth getting yourself checked out for sure!

Dairymum hope your bloods are fine! I am sure they will be. The waiting's a pain though...For me, the doc said, "if you don't hear from me by such and such a day, assume all is well." That made it worse in a way But he never called, so I guess all's well...

Hope you are fine and that the bleeding has cleared up!

smokeybacon · 27/05/2010 09:42

Feel much better today. Went to bed for the rest of the afternoon and being horizontal seemed to do the trick. If it happens again, I'll call the MW or GP but as it passed, no point in bothering them now.

rinny hope your back is better now. Could be sciatica? If the tingling goes down your leg too.

My next appointment is at 16 weeks (note to self MAKE THE APPOINTMENT!). I think they did check the HB at 16 weeks but not before. Here they have to refer to the hospital for a scan if a HB cannot be picked up so I don't think they will even attempt it before 16 weeks.

JFly · 27/05/2010 09:47

Thanks for all your nice messages. Am feeling more confident (and bumpy) now, so have started to pick up a few more maturity clothes. Bras were number 1 on the list, as I'm busting out of my 32F. It is a very sad state of affairs.

Smokey, so glad you had good results, too. It is such a relief. Hope you're fainting was a one off. Take care not to wear yourself out.

Someone asked about a doula, somewhere a million years ago. Ask again, as I had one last time. Happy to talk about it.

smokeybacon · 27/05/2010 09:55

jfly it wasn't me that asked about a doula but I am seriously considering one for post birth. Tell me about yours? Was she ante natal/birth/post natal? Am thinking I can do the birth - I am happy to do this with DH on my own as I am pretty confident in the care at my hosptial in the delivery suite, but with 2 newborns and 2 other children, I reckon I could do with some help perhaps after DH goes back to work.

umf · 27/05/2010 10:59

jfly tell me about doulas!! We're interviewing one this afternoon! For the birth - she doesn't do post-natal after the first couple of days cos has own children and business.

smokey wow, yes, I should think some help will be most welcome! Someone who is training as a nanny might be a cost-effective option; I think they often want "mother's help" experience. You could ask a nanny agency?

Pidgin · 27/05/2010 11:02

jfly I want to know about doulas too! I have found one who I think we're going to interview (birth not postnatal). Do you have any tips on what to ask/ look for, and on the process generally?

glad to hear you are feeling better smokey

Rinnyx · 27/05/2010 11:30

Thanks Pidgin SomethingSuitablyWitty and smokeybacon it seems to kick off at night before I head off to bed, like a sharp stabbing pain always just in my left lower back, trapped nerve like, I guess it could be sciatica, if it gets worse I might go to the docs as I stay bent over and look like a old woman hobbling about, very attractive

Going to try and look on the bright side, I get to see my friends Saturday and tell them all the news, I only get to see them every few months as they live back in my old town 70 miles away

umf · 27/05/2010 12:23

Rinnyx I wonder if that's your sacroiliac joint playing up?

I get a similar problem from time to time, especially last summer before started doing pilates. Now getting it again a bit because haven't been able to go to the class since Easter because too busy vomming.

Pilates, swimming, and especially sports massage helped me. Would have to check sports massage person would be willing to treat in pg. Osteopathy also might help?

umf · 27/05/2010 12:24

(Should say, a London GP referred me for course of osteopathy treatment for free once. Wonder if GPs can still do that?)

4madboys · 27/05/2010 16:43

just marking my place after spending ages searchign for the last thread!

i am suprised to hear of midwifes not listing for heartbeats till 19wks! mine has always tried from about 15wks and never had any problem finding hearbeat.

we actually got to hear the heartbeat when we had the nuchal scan, so that was nice, i need to make an app to see midwife for 16wks, am 14wks now so best do it or it will be all booked up!

MY sickness is not going away, soo annoying, and to make life more difficult ds2 has hand foot and mouth disease! so i am stuck at home with him for over a week until he isnt contagious anymore, of course the other boys will prob get it once he is better...

hope everyone is feeling as well as possible and you all get a nice rest at the weekend to help with any aches and pains xxxx

Pidgin · 27/05/2010 17:38

Hi all, just to say my doppler thing came in the post and I got to hear the heartbeat - woo hoo! Very excited. Took me a little while to find it, so have gel all over my tummy now

Also bought my first maternity bra today. It is really really ugly. Treated myself to some very big pants too. Looking forward to the comfort of pants that actually fit tomorrow.

4madboys sorry to hear about your sickness and your poorly DS, doesn't sound much fun...

cluelessnchaos · 27/05/2010 17:52

still spotting but feeling quite relaxed about it, its just the scary red stuff that freaks me out, I had my 16 week check today and they heard heartbeat with the doppler, i was a bit worried because I had been having a lot of movement but couldnt feel much the last couple of days, I think the baby has moved up to where my stomach muscles are stronger and there is a bit more padding, its the bad headaches that are attacking me at the moment

balijay · 27/05/2010 20:34

Evening all. Just dropping by for a quick catch-up. Nothing terribly interesting to report - blood results came back good (low risk of downs). 16week check due on 10th June and 20week scan booked for 1st July. Think we may try and find out if its a blue or pink one. Have a nice little bump now of which I am very proud

Did everyone see there is now a Feb 2011 thread Are we really that much pregnant!!!

Kyuri · 27/05/2010 20:49

Evening all

A while since I've been on, work very busy lately. Great to hear the good CVS and scan results! And thanks for the new thread hmmsleep.

Flumpy bump developing here too. Can now see the line between uterus and flump about half way between belly button and lady garden. Still haven't told wider work world so having to suck it in most of the time.

I am 60% boy apparently, but was very confused by the pillow question - how can a pillow point anywhere let alone North or South?!

I'm also feeling movement, started on Sunday at 16+6 and has got slightly more frequent as the days go on. Feels like a gentle internal poking rather than anything more foreful and wouldn't be feel-able from the outside. Different enough to any other internal goings on that I'm fairly confident it's baby. Very reassuring.

Still haven't got my 20 week scan appt so that's the latest stress (am 17+3 now). Have already phoned once chasing the appt

Also surprised by the MW not checking HB at 16 wks, at my last appt (15+1) the MW warned me it might be difficult to find but gave it a go and did pick it up.

Lovely to hear how you are all getting on!

Oh, fenouille next time you are on if you have time, could you please let me know what advice women are given in France about cheese in PG? I am going to Nice for 10 days in early July and LOVE my cheese - I was hoping that French advice might be better and I could eat my weight in Reblochon and St Agur safe in the knowledge that I was following local advice . Thanks!

kawaiiko · 27/05/2010 20:53

Evening all, another thread! My gosh - as balijay said, with that and the Feb 2011 thread I feel seriously pregnant now... Another 90% flump 10% bump here

smokeybacon I had a really funny turn at work today, came over all faint suddenly. I think mine is probably low blood pressure - it's quite low normally anyway.

Week 18 for me now (refusing along with fenouille and hmmsleep to be evicted to October!) and I can definitely feel the baby now when I'm sitting still. Mentioned it to my manager and when she asked how it felt, "like a belly full of eels!" was what slipped out! I am terrible at censoring what comes out of my mouth....

Jfly I'm fascinated by the doula talk - we are moving back to my mum and dad's while I'm on mat leave to save for a house deposit and mum used to be a midwife so I will be using her as mine!
