Welcome newbies and congrats! Dairy please don't worry I was like you with DD it's this time around I have become a loon and I am not having an early scan though I have booked a private one at 12 weeks.

Don't worry about not feeling many symptoms, most of my friends have been the same

DD is v poorly bless her am crossing fingers I don't get it too.

CurlyCasper · 24/11/2009 18:48

as predicted by many of you, doc said pink not much to worry about (yeah, tell that to the women on the too-many sites I looked at earlier ) anyway, she says to call back if goes red and I'll be sent to EPU for scan. Oh, and I have to take it easy - just need DH to come home now...

Gracie123 · 24/11/2009 18:51

My friend didn't have any morning sickness in either of her pregnancies so I don't think it's anything worth being too worried about.

DS Update Baycall dr doesn't think it is swine flu. He said it's more likely to be a combination of ear, nose, throat, chest and eye infections with a stomach bug and a little dehydration to boot. Whew!

He's given us antibiotics (boo) and some rehydration salts and says with plenty of sleep DS will be feeling better in a few days. How do you make a 2 yo sleep? Especially when the only reason they're awake is because they can't lie down with having a coughing fit??

Anyway, if it's not swine I don't need a shot, so that's just fine by me very sorry for DS though

Whatever it is I am gonna get it. Been starting to feel shivery and drippy nosed in the last hour or two

skihorse · 24/11/2009 18:56

Dairylea If you're actually only ¬4-5 weeks pregnant this could explain the lack of symptoms although you might just be lucky.

tjtheminx · 24/11/2009 19:41

This thread moves so fast!
irishfairy yes, I'm Irish and I had kind of guessed you were too
Rant: you are so right, there are millions of places to get greasy food but nowhere to get your hands on an honest to goodness bag of chips.
I spoke to the midwife today and she's got me in for a scan and consultant visit on 10th December which isn't too bad.
Christmas in the US is a total let down so can't wail to go to Ireland.
Thanksgiving in 2 days though so already will be eating turkey. If I can face all that food in one go.. bleuk.

timefliesby · 24/11/2009 19:42

Thanks for the messages of support - slowly coming round to the idea of DS2 or DD1! Doc said MAP usually works...not this time. Was worried it might affect baby but Doc says not. To those worrying about symptoms...don't! It's too early for major symptoms and you'll soon wish you weren't having them! Normal to feel not pregnant enough...So here we go again...just as I was 4lb off pre-pregnancy weight!!!

KolaKubes · 24/11/2009 19:52

Hello all, room for one more newbie on the July bus? I promise not to put my feet up on the seats (well not until my ankles get really swollen again).
I'm due 18 July with nipper no2 - had an early dating scan today cos periods have been MIA since finishing breastfeeding. DS is eight months so it's gonna be hectic.
Feeling excited but very queasy and unfortunately the thing that's making my stomach lurch the most is the scent of poor DS! I'm hoping that changing his washing powder will do the trick.
Looking foward to getting to know you all over the coming months.

Gracie123 · 24/11/2009 20:44

Kola - my DS is making me feel bluerghh as well. He is sick, but it's made his breath smell foul. Unfortunately, being sick, he wants mummy to kiss him better all the time

TJ - We are celebrating thanksgiving this thursday. Have to say I can't wait to chow down on some yams and marshmallow, mmmmmmmmm........

Timeflies - well done for getting so close to pre-preg weight! I am still 3 stone heavier than I was pre-DS, but then I am 2 stone heavier than I was the day I gave birth!! Combination of mummy lifestyle and resigning from a fairly physical job I guess . When this baby is born I'm going to work really hard to get back to 8st.

WhatSheSaid · 24/11/2009 21:14

Interesting about iron tablets possibly making ms worse (someone was mentioning it earlier in the thread) - I was prescribed iron and started taking them on Monday and my ms has been MUCH worse the last couple of days - to the point I can't leave the house I'm so worried about barfing in public. And it's been all day and at nighttimes too - last night I woke up 4 times feeling sick. I might not take the iron tablets for a few days and see if it helps - try to eat lots of iron-rich food instead (umm...will have to google what they are!). I can always take the iron tablets a bit later when the ms has finished.

Gracie, your em c/s under GA sounds very scary. I had already had an epidural so they just topped that up and dd was out within 20 mins - and they had her cuddled up next to me very soon and feeding within about an hour. Hope your ds is better soon.

Hello to any new folk, this is a pretty busy thread now!

randomama · 24/11/2009 21:57

Hey all,

Gracie and Gibbon - hope your DC get well soon.

Welcome and congratulations to all newbies!! I was toying with the idea of updating the stats but to be honest I'm not sure I have the concentration skills at the moment - I'm knackered!

EPU today was good. had a scan and saw the gest sac, the fetal pole, the yolk sac and the heartbeat !!! all looks well. down side is I had protein in my urine - pr some sort of infection - so they are getting some tests done and will lemme know what's going on on friday. Really hope it's not the return of the PID.

Felt nice to see little blob though, a real relief though was surprised just how un-baby like it was (I'm around 7 weeks - EDD from LMP 7th July) looking forward to the dating scan where it'll look more like a baby.

Hope all's well with everyone,

xoxox

sevans · 24/11/2009 22:36

Welcome and congrats to the newbies! It seems like our group is growing and growing! Maybe we should post a list. I think one was made before I even joined so there will be lots of additions!

curly, I'm glad things worked out and I'm sure you feel much better hearing it from your doctor.

randomama, congrats on your scan and seeing your baby! That is so exciting. I can't wait for mine next Tuesday and hopefully I will get to see everything you did. I will be right at 7 weeks.

Gracie123 · 25/11/2009 08:53

whatshesaid It's worth just checking in with your MW before you stop taking them and let her know how you feel and why.

There are two types of Iron tablets they can prescribe, ferrous sulphate and another one I can't remember the name of. With your iron count being so low, maybe you could try the other one before giving up on them. Some women only have trouble with one of them.

And like I said, SpaTone got my count from 5.8 up to 9.something within a week! It's really very good if you take it with the correct foods.

I know what you mean about being scared to leave the house. This time last pregnancy I walked out of boots and threw up instantly in the gutter with no warning. Everyone looked disgusted at me like I was a drunk and I wanted to shout 'I'm pregnant!!' but I didn't have the balls

Due July 2010 - pukey tums & burpy bums on the road to becoming summer mums

skihorse · 25/11/2009 09:22

Great choice Curly!

violetbubbles · 25/11/2009 10:02

Morning!
Thanks for sharing your anemia stories everyone and a special thank you to Gracie123 for the tip about taking the tablets with fresh orange juice; to CurlyCasper for the reassurances; to Givecarrotachance for advice about fruit and veg; and Spirael for recommending SpaTone as an alternative to ferrous sulphate.

Just realised that sounds a bit like an Oscar acceptance speech .

So, I think the iron tablets are making me feel even sicker. Haven't been sick yet, just have that awful feeling that I'm going to be sick ALL THE TIME! But I'll persevere for a week on these tablets and if I'm still ill I'll look into SpaTone.

Struggled with food yesterday. Finally managed to eat something at night. Firsty, a cheese and tomato sandwich on white bread. WHITE BREAD!! I haven't had white bread since primary school! Followed by two potato waffles yum!

I've had to phone in sick today as yesterday I was almost sick on one of my students. I'm also struggling to answer the questions that their bright inquiring minds keep asking me...

Good luck to those of you looking after sick DCs! Welcome to all the new BFPs and positive thoughts to those having a difficult time at the moment.
x

Dairylea · 25/11/2009 10:58

Thanks skihorse and Gibbons - think you're right - I'm only 4-5 weeks so maybe by this time next week I'll be retching too hard to reach the keyboard....

Hoping to get some energy back today - I'm self-employed so can't do too much lying around on the sofa trying out different online due date calendars as I didn't do yesterday......

summerymummy · 25/11/2009 11:03

hi ladies,

for those of your going for early (7-8 weeks) scans, are you doing that through the NHS? I was in Australia until week 15 of my first pregnancy so I had to pay for everything and had a scan at 6 weeks, 8 weeks, 12 weeks, then came back to UK and they were soooo slow, didn't get scanned until 24 weeks! I'm fairly sure other friends of mine in this area don't get offered any scans before 12 weeks, is that normal? I am going private this time, have an appointment with an independent midwife next week, maybe i should ask her if i can have an early scan. can't bear the thought of not knowing if everything is alright til 12 weeks, that's like forever away!

Chulita · 25/11/2009 11:13

violet I was anaemic with DD and the iron tablets definitely made me feel worse. I did have hyperemesis anyway but still, vomiting and a little less dizzy or slightly less vomiting and really dizzy. I also craved sponges like a fiend til I sorted my iron levels out (even had a song about them ) Good luck!
I've been feeling a bit nauseous today, nothing major but it's on its way
Any tips to get rid of baby flavour?

violetbubbles · 25/11/2009 11:17

Hi summerymummy - I had to go private to get an early scan at 7weeks+4days. Still haven't received a date for my booking-in appointment on the NHS, despite visiting my GP on 9th November to request one. Phoned the scanning unit at the hospital yesterday and they said they probably won't want to see me before 14 weeks. Might even be 16 as they're busy. I've booked another private scan at 12 weeks though. Want to be sure that everything is okay before we tell our families on Xmas Day!

givecarrotsachance · 25/11/2009 11:22

summery I'm going private for an early scan, because I'm feeling that way out. No reason for the NHS to give me one.

Has anyone had the NF on the NHS? With LC I had it privately as it wasn't available on the NHS at the time. I've booked it privately but am wondering whether I should save the £190 and try for an NHS one. However, my 20 week scan was a miz experience on the NHS with a stroppy bitch of a scanner - not at all fun - whereas the 12 week private was really lovely. I know it's not about me but even so. She actually pointed that out BTW. When we went in she said that we need to understand that this scan was about the baby, not me, then she turned the monitor away so I couldn't see it even though it wasn't necessary - she could share it just fine. Bitch .

The private one had a monitor on the ceiling so I could see everything really well and a clear monitor for my ex to see, too.

Just wondered what everyone's experience was.

skihorse · 25/11/2009 11:43

carrots The NF is an odd one for me. I'll get it "fer free" when I'm 35, but if I get it at 35 I'll have to pay for it! I turn 36 when I'm approximately 12-13 weeks. What will I gain with the NF? We don't want to terminate - will the odds just drive me loopy with worry for the remainder of the pregnancy? Or is fore-warned fore-armed?

givecarrotsachance · 25/11/2009 12:21

ski If we weren't thinking we would terminate then we wouldn't have the scan. You can test for so many terrible things that noone is suggesting so what's the point in testing for that one?

The problem is that you could get a result of, say, 1 in 50. Now that's not great odds compared with LC's result of 1 in less than 50,000. But (and I think you know something about numbers ) it's still a pretty unlikely outcome. So would you drive yourself nuts with it? What if it was 1 in 10? 1 in 5? So my recommendation would be, don't do the test.

But you understand statistics and probability better than any of us, so you know that.

It's not forewarned is fore-armed if you don't actually know, is it.

Dairylea · 25/11/2009 12:40

Can I join the list? July 19 for me!

Ski - I turn 36 in my 28th week. I'm not going to do the test. But I would so love a scan in my 10th week - that would mean I could confirm that it's definitely there in time for Christmas. Or is that just too early?
