em that's exactly why I'm worried about an early scan. Could you be less pregnant than you thought you were? But yes, it's really common and I'm sure all is fine.

iggypiggy · 24/11/2009 13:20

Rots that is why i am waiting till am 8 weeks - much more likely to see stuff then.. Although I actually booked it for 7 + 6

givecarrotsachance · 24/11/2009 13:25

iggy and em I just spoke to scanning centre and they said they would scan at 7 weeks at the earliest. How many are you, em?

So iggs you should be fine at 7+6.

givecarrotsachance · 24/11/2009 13:28

I'm considering 8+5 which is the best date working around working. I thought I would make the appointment with the independant midwife on the same day so I knew all was well before handing over cash!!!

iggypiggy · 24/11/2009 13:29

good plan rots - I know you can go at 7 - but too close to that is risk in case you has dates wrong... you will be safe with nearly 9 weeks!

Gracie123 · 24/11/2009 14:10

Just been to see MW and she has booked me for scan at 6wks and again at 8wks. She said not to worry if there is no embryo yet, the scan is just to check it's in the right place (I am high risk ectopic).

Spirael I am hoping my morning sickness is bad over christmas, then maybe I won't put on an extra 2 stone to try and shift with 'safe' pregnancy exercise.

Gracie123 · 24/11/2009 14:12

p.s. MW also had a Dr come look at DS who had tagged along for the appointment (only 2, so we haven't told him I'm pg, just that I'm not very well, so I think he thinks the midwife is a nurse. Far too interested in her plastic train set to listen to our conversation )
Turns out he has swine flu. GP wants me to come back for a vaccination. Apparently they are making all pg ladies have it (usually a bit later on), but I have to have it early because I am definitely being exposed. Has anyone else had/been offered this?

CurlyCasper · 24/11/2009 14:14

Have pink discharge - is this normal???

Gracie123 · 24/11/2009 14:16

Can be implantation. Unless you are actually bleeding it's probably nothing to worry about. Do contact your GP if you are worried though.
Always better than wishing that you had later IMHO.

givecarrotsachance · 24/11/2009 14:19

gracie blimey! Please, please don't take this the wrong way but I think that's hilarious. ski and I have been chatting about worrying about things like getting it right about when to take our DC to the doctors and to not know your son has swine flu is absolutely hilarious. Now I completely understand, having a small boy myself, that they can look really ill and be absolutely fine, and sometimes look fine and there's something going on we don't know about - so please, please don't think I am judging you in any way at all - I am absolutely not. Quite the opposite, I promise. It's just so reassuring to know that I'm not the only mum to sometimes not know exactly what's going on with my child!

Hope that comes across ok . But you've made my day .

givecarrotsachance · 24/11/2009 14:20

gosh, I really hope you take that the right way gracie

casper I think it's really common but I'd get it checked out if I were you...

Gracie123 · 24/11/2009 14:27

Thanks carrots. I know, I don't like taking him for every cold and sniffle, so I did know he was sick, but his temperature was under control with medised and he was still running around and playing, so I thought 'he can't be that sick' (despite green poop, hoarse voice and temperature - oh God, maybe I am a terrible mother...)

GP didn't seem to concerned either TBH. Just asked me to keep him away from other people. As long as they are doing okay on paracetamol you don't need to give them any treatment. GP said I had done the right thing and the only concern was really to my pregnancy.

Thing is, I prefer him not to have antibiotics if he doesn't need them. Just making sure he eats lots of fruit, drinks plenty and keeping an eye on him usually gets us through most childhood illnesses.

I'm sorry second, here have a
Don't worry - I washed my hands and it's probably free(ish) of the piggy germs...

givecarrotsachance · 24/11/2009 15:18

gracie a) phew - glad you understood! and b) absolutely, I'm the same. Recently I took DS to docs as his eczema was getting worse. I thought it was not too bad and hardly worth a visit, but it was a bit itchy so thought I ought to. Doc then practically dragged him into care right there and then (ok slight exaggeration) and told me that it was really bad . Lots of at OMG I'm a terrible mother .

Today he looked like death warmed up following a week with a nasty cough, so I phoned the docs first thing - no appointments. Recep asked if it was an emergency and I said that I wasn't a dire emergency (obv otherwise he would go to A&E!) but I really wanted him to be seen today. She offered me 1pm and I ummed and ahhed about taking him out of school and she had a go at me, saying if he was ill enough to be going to an emergency appointment, he was too ill for school! Clearly that's rubbish as there are plenty of things that it could have been which are non-contagious but need urgent attention. I told her so, too, and basically said that I was phoning for an appointment, not to be told off for taking my son to school . I got the appointment! Anyway, so YOB took him, and afterwards he phoned me to say that since we'd dropped him at school he'd been running round the playground like a nutter, was all bright eyed, red cheeked and bushy tailed and looked the picture of health .

Doc said he's not got a chest infection though which was a relief. Doc also said not to give cough mixture as it can lead to chest infections but surely that's only with a cough suppressant, not an expectorant?

Gracie123 · 24/11/2009 15:33

Ummmmm.... final sentence sounds like you think I know anything about children's health.
I don't.
Probably best not to give him any in case?
Have a piggy infected biccie from me instead

sevans · 24/11/2009 15:54

emsie, it is possible that it is just too early. Try to hang in there and not worry so much the next two weeks...easier said than done! I will be exactly 7 weeks (based off my calc) when I go for my scan so hopefully that isn't too early either.

curly, I think brown or pink spotting can be fairly normal. Last week it happened to me on two days. Very, very light and kind of orange in color. I am going to mention it to the doctor next week when I am there for my appointment. I think when the spotting is bright red is when you should call your doctor.

Today is six weeks. No sickness yet. It kind of worries me.

timefliesby · 24/11/2009 15:55

It seems once can be enough and the morning after pill doesn't work. Already have an eight month old, feeling very emotional!!

CurlyCasper · 24/11/2009 15:59

spoke to nurse etc and seeing GP today. (5.30) Think there's a little concern because I've had cramping and lower back ache. I did explain that I've been cramping pretty much every day for three weeks, so nothing new there...

iggypiggy · 24/11/2009 16:09

sevans me too - am sickness free... am trying not to worry too much tho..

caspar hope ok at docs later. x

Timeflies- my sister had the same (nearly) gap between hers, I know it's a shock but it is lovely to see the girls together.
On the brightside you won't have to be doing the sleepless night phase for as long if they overlap like that.
I hope you can get excited about LO.

Update on DS turns out it gets worse (the swine flu that is) medised is no longer controlling his temp and he is either sleeping or screaming now. As soon as dh gets home with the car we'll be back off to the doctors

givecarrotsachance · 24/11/2009 17:00

gracie sorry to hear that Hope he gets better soon. I'm sure that they will be able to control his temp at docs.

And you're rubbish at knowing stuff - poke in ribs.

cassie thinking about you and VV keen to hear news from docs.

Ok well I've booked an early scan for 8+5 just for the hell of it.

This isn't gonna make time feel any better but just to add an anecdote, YOB's brother is 10.5 months younger than him. I once asked his mother how on earth she'd let their dad anywhere near her 6 weeks post partum and she did a face.

Hi everyone - hoping to join the July bus! I'm new-ish (have been talking on the stepparenting threads, as I have a DSD of 17 and DSS of 11). Am pregnant with my first - very happy! But am slightly freaking out after reading all your posts. Should I be going for an early scan to eliminate all concerns? I just did a test (just the one) a week ago and have just assumed all is OK. I have long cycles so although technically I am 6 weeks + 2, I think reality is that I only conceived 2 or at most 3 weeks ago. So I have felt tired and boobs are big but no sickness. Generally feeling a bit 'not pregnant enough'. Am getting a little paranoid, as DP came on quite strong about MC risks when I told him the happy news. (Doc never said anything tho - and I have no history of it.) Should I just relax or would you all recommend a private scan? And how do I go about it? Thank you! Looking forward to getting to know you all over the next 9 months!
