pinkfizzle can I ask if your early scan was abdominal or vaginal? I have got one booked for when I will be exactly 7 weeks and they said they try abdominal first but it normally ends up being vaginal. I am really cautious about having this because of the risk of infection so just wondering what people's opinions are on it and whether they think at 7 weeks they should be able to detect a heart beat abdominally.

southernbelle I hope you are feeling a bit reassured. When is your early scan?

scarlotti · 29/03/2009 10:49

kaster I had a scan at 6+3 and they did it abdominally, and found bean with a heartbeat. I was surprised as was expecting a vaginal one. I think it will depend on how good the sonographer is. Try and have a fairly full bladder as that helps.
I hadn't heard about the risk of infection - I had a vaginal one last time and they didn't mention that risk at all. Mind you, they were trying to assess whether I'd m/c'd so maybe that outweighed any risk.

katster37 · 29/03/2009 10:51

Thanks scarlotti. I just can't decide what to do. Part of me is desperate to know whether everything is OK and the thought of waiting for my 12 week scan seems a nightmare, but I don't want to end up getting an infection and miscarrying and then having to blame myself Don't know what to do!!

pinkfizzle · 29/03/2009 11:08

Weston I am 9 weeks feel huge and am busting out of clothes!

Katser -I am no expert, but my first scan was had at 9 weeks, and i was scanned through the tummy, at the place I went I read that at 7-11 weeks they can usually scan through the tummy.

Scan can be done at 6-7 weeks trans-vaginally. At this stage you are unlikely to see a heart beating but they will be able to confirm that the sac is in the uterus. My understanding is that scans at 7-11 weeks can show the embryo/s , presence of a heartbeat, and indicate the size of the sac, and date the number of weeks of pregnancy and any bleeding issues. Hope this helps. Best of luck with your scan. Hopefully they will first try scan you through your tummy.

My due date is 30.10.09 - I just realised that I put the wrong date down, baby brain already!

BeckyBendyLegs · 29/03/2009 11:13

Hello all! Good morning! I'm amazed that they can find a heartbeat at 6 weeks 3 (that was me yesterday). That is so cool! I'm sitting here watching Space Pirates with my DSs. I was feeling really, really sick five minutes ago and now I am hungry.

I had internal scans last time I was pregnant but as with Scarlotti that was after they'd tried an abdominal one and couldn't find anything. I think they try to avoid an internal one if they can. I'm in the same position really. I feel I ought to get scanned to reassure myself that all is ok after last time but am scared too.

Well, off now to see who the Pirate Posse are going to choose.

Fruitpastels · 29/03/2009 11:26

Morning ladies, Hope everyone is feeling ok today. I haven't posted for a while as the ms is still rather bad. I was sick in the shopping centre carpark yesterday , luckily dh was on hand with a plastic bag for me! I felt better after that and ate a McDonalds happy meal, not healthy I know, but it went down a treat . I have to eat, eat, eat to keep this ms away. If I miss an hour or two then I'm done for! I also have a huge craving for strawberries and I panic if there are none left in the fridge! I can't face doing the food shop (it's been like that for weeks!) I will have to send dh out with a list. Hope you all have a lovely day

lemontop · 29/03/2009 11:29

Wow some stuff on here can really make you panic. I had an internal scan last Monday when I was 7+4. They didn't mention anything to me about infection or risks! I've had TV scans before for cysts on ovary. Surely they wouldn't do them if there was any danger?

Mind you I had an infection already (which they found by doing a urine sample). It's very common in early pregnancy apparently. My antibiotics are totally knocking me out. Roll on Tuesday when the course is finished.

EasyEggs · 29/03/2009 11:45

I had my scan on Thursday 6+2 and that was TV, saw HB. She didn't mention infections at all. I don't think it's anymore likely to cause infection than having a bit of the other with dp tbh! Not that any of us feel like that right now, well not me anyway!

This MS is driving me crazy. It started with a vengence yesterday at 4am and got stedily worse throughout the day. I was throwing up mid afternoon and after that I could barely move Same again today. Woke feeling a bit sick and it's just getting worse. This isn't morning sicness it's all day and all blooming night sickness. Wouldn't be so bad if dp wasn't at work and I didn't have to look after other 4 by myself. Oh well only another 6 ish weeks until it starts to wear off, oh yay lol!

BeckyBendyLegs · 29/03/2009 12:17

Oh Easyeggs poor you. Do you have anyone else to help with your 4 DCs?

I certainly don't feel like doing the deed with DH at the moment. The thought makes me shudder! He'll just have to sit tight and wait. I want to want to do it because I miss it but I just don't want to do it.

I'm taking the DSs to my sister's this afternoon and leaving DH at home do do some work. I might have to fess up and tell her I am pregnant.

EasyEggs · 29/03/2009 13:20

becky nobody to help really as haven't told any family yet.Only a coupe of close friends know. One of them is coming over on Tuesday to help out for a couple of hours, she is a saint

Hope all goes well with telling your sis! Hopefully you'll then get an afternoon of putting your feet up and letting her run around after the kids

browntrout · 29/03/2009 14:49

Weston, 8+3 with my second and put maternity jeans on today for first time. Last pregnancy I could have got away with noone guessing til about 30 weeks. It is a bit of a shock to the system I have to say. Am hoping it will be an initial spurt and then calm down a bit - if it doesn't I may need to have some winch system installed to get me out of the house!

Leannabanana · 29/03/2009 15:49

i had to buy a pair of maternity trousers today....i am a tall size 12 usually but cannot get even my boyfriend baggy jeans done up....bit of a shock. was hoping to do a lovely skinny preg but looks like no chance...i hope i don't turn into a whale or that if i do that i am ok with it and not depressed. that sounds so shallow doesn't it and i don't mean to come across like that but last preg with DS i got ridiculously big as decided to eat what i like....its really hard to eat sensibly at the mo and this MS means i just gotta eat what i fancy when i fancy it before i throw it all up again....i'm sure this is not helping my moodswings....i am HORRIBLE to live with at the minute and as for SEX.....poor DH.....not a remote part of me that feels like doing it....we only married in feb and already i am off sex....ha ha. glad to hear all of you are feeling MS too tho....makes me not feel so alone. Everyone else in RL just looks at me like i am a mad erratic overly emotional woman....

scarlotti · 29/03/2009 18:30

I've been wearing maternity trousers for the last two weekends, luckily my work trousers are a little more roomy so am still ok (just) with them. Bought some maternity trousers as they feel better than my fat jeans as they still fit nicely around the bum/legs, just more roomy around the tummy. There'll be plenty of time for me to expand everywhere else later.
Totally off sex here too, not remotely interested. Maybe it's nature's way - not sure what for though!

helips · 29/03/2009 18:51

Evening all and welcome to more newbies, there are so many of us now!

Raggie, your baby is due on my birthday!

Still feeling really tired but seems to be my only symptom (apart from the fact that I can't stop eating!) My boobs aren't sore this time round and I'm quite surprised as I'm still breastfeeding ds once before bed but my nipples don't feel sore at all. Hope thats not a bad sign.

I'm not in maternity clothes yet but definately feel fat. In fact yesterday in the park a random stranger asked me when I was due!! I was quite and thought crikey, is it that obvious?! Don't know how I'm going to disguise it for the next 4 weeks, people are bound to guess. I keep worrying that I'm going to go for my scan and there's going to be no baby and that I'm just fat!

Got my scan a week tomorrow. I'll be 9 weeks but the lady on the phone said it would be done vaginally. Quite surprised by that. Also, didn't know there was a risk of infection, said there was no risks in the leaflet, am a bit worried now.

Hope everyone with ms starts to feel better soon, have a nice evening everyone!

BeckyBendyLegs · 29/03/2009 19:08

I've had a quick scan on the internet and the consensus seems to be that there is a 'slight' risk of infection but as someone said on this thread: there is probs more risk having sex. When I had an internal it all seemed very hygienic and clinical and I'd have thought the risk would be really minimal. It wouldn't stop me having an internal scan.

I've had a lovely afternoon at my sister's. Totally nausea free and in the sunshine. I even had a bounce on their bouncy castle! I was very careful though - no dive bombing or back flips for me today. I'm now eating melon and Greek yogurt again, seems to be now part of my evening routine.

I haven't put on any weight yet, as far as the scales are concerned, but I feel more 'solid'. Early pregnancy doesn't make you feel very attractive, does it? At least that's how I feel.

Flumpity · 29/03/2009 19:25

Poo. Trying to post from new iPhone and did it wrong. Ended up with a new topic instead of a new message. Anyway, wanted to say hi and ask for those on 2nd or more pgs did you get ms with all o them or can you get it with one and not another? 5 1/2 wks and still living in hope I might avoid it this time!

weston · 29/03/2009 19:53

hi flumpity think each pregnancy is def. different, first time didnt have any ms but feel queay and more bleugh this time, not sure if its gender dependent or just the luck of the draw...

BeckyBendyLegs · 29/03/2009 20:03

I got slightly more MS with each one but not everyone is the same! Didn't have any with DS1.

alexdrake · 29/03/2009 20:20

Evening All! I too had hardly any ms with DS1 but am feeling particularly ropey this time around.

I also have a definite bump this time (at about 7 weeks) but last time I was still wearing 'normal' clothes up to 16 weeks - ho hum - seems my tummy muscles have gone the same way as my pelvic floor!

I'm so excited for those having scans and very jealous - my GP was very vague about next steps so plan to chase him up this week and get things moving - hopefully...

Finally twins Piper, that's so fantastic, you lucky thing - all the best.

LissyGlitter · 29/03/2009 20:51

I gave my GP a wee sample last thursday but one and the results still haven't come back and without that confirmation apparently i can't see the midwife. Why does it take this long???

raggie · 29/03/2009 21:06

Hello all

No MS for me today although feeling rather exhausted as had a walk over Hampstead Heath - such beautiful weather - so came back and promptly passed out for a couple of hours on the sofa!

Glad my baby will (might?!?) be in such good company with their birthday helips!

gizzy1973 · 29/03/2009 21:11

Hi can i join here too as think i am due 28th novemeber

am feeling fine at moment apart from so tired - how long does that last for?

pinkfizzle · 29/03/2009 21:23

Hey Gizzy - congrats. I too would like to know how long I will be zonked out for and how long MS can go for, I have read that it supposed to get better in the second trimester, but that seems a long way off.

Had an ok day yesterday but
I have felt horrid with ms all day but live in hope of nausea leaving me.

Only made it out of bed for 3 hours in total.

Good to hear that Raggie and Becky had some nausea free time in the sunshine, I live in hope.

To anyone with kids already and having to deal with ms - well I don't know how you do it, as I think you are amazing.

xx

Heathcliffscathy · 29/03/2009 21:26

hello.

i'm due november 23rd. number 2.

no ms at all as yet. tired, as in sleeping for england and a full feeling but otherwise fine. i find this scarey tbh although i didn't have ms with my first either (did have nausea if i didn't look after my blood sugar but was immediately relieved by food).

finding waiting for 12 weeks interminable. another 6 weeks!

rachael4 · 29/03/2009 21:42

Hi girls! I had positive test x2 last week. Think i am due in nov but cannot remember my lmp! Not good for a midwife! This is my 3rd, i have a son and a daughter already. Is anyone else feeling anxious? I feel constantly worried x
