Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
eeyore2 · 30/03/2009 18:45

ursgurke - how frustrating for you! Hope you get a date soon.

brightonbaby · 30/03/2009 18:48

This is a lovely thread. I can't believe there are so many here

We (me and OH) haven't told a soul yet. Still taking it in....only 6/7 weeks gone, I think.

Spent last weekend with my best friend and the subject of babies came up about 50 times! She must be psychic...but I still managed to hold out.

I've been telling people I've given up alcohol for Lent! and they know I'm not even religious. But, it has seemed to work. Not sure how I'll get away with it after Easter though.

Welcome to all the newcomers on here. I love reading all the questions, experiences and advice....especially since I can't share this yet in rl.

BeckyBendyLegs · 30/03/2009 19:17

Brightonbaby I used that excuse with DS1 and everyone bought it totally! No-one suspected until I could tell them at Easter when I was 12 weeks (by the way my due date this time is two days after DS1's birthday!).

I have loads of work to do I am freelance and would normally work in the evening when I am busy but there is no way I can do that at the moment! I can only just muster up enough energy to watch TV until 9.30pm never mind sit with a laptop doing work for two hours!!!

I love this thread too. It is great to hear about what everyone is feeling and doing. It helps me get through the days! And its great that we're such a diverse bunch from first timers to fifth timers (Easy!) - anyone beat that? And those with twins (Piper I hope you are ok) and those with just the one (most of us I imagine!). Those who have been trying for years, those who have just got pregnant by surprise. And we're from all over the country too! It's lovely

becks130 · 30/03/2009 19:51

Hi All,

I hope everyone is enjoying the sunshine and I hope MS isn't too bad.

I can't believe my luck, MS seems to be a lot better but then I wake up on saturday morning with a frozen shoulder and neck! The worse thing about it is that I can't take anything for it!

This thread moves a such a speed I'm finding it hard to keep up, oh we are a chatty bunch

Flumpity · 30/03/2009 19:57

Hello, wow what a busy thread! Feel bad I can post in the evenings. Interesting to hear ms can be diff each time - hope it doesn't always get worse!

ahappymummy · 30/03/2009 20:04

Hi guys!
Im due around the 20th Nov with my 2nd and was just wondering what type of foods you guys are avoiding?
I love runny eggs and smelly cheeses but apparently these are out of bounds?

Flumpity · 30/03/2009 20:28

brighton baby the lent thing is a great idea. hadn't thought of that one. i can use it for another week... but what do you say afterwards? i have a girly night out coming up with 2 friends, dinner in a nice restaurant, usually would involve a couple of bottles of nice wine, but obviously i won't be partaking. just can't think of a viable excuse at all. the old antibiotics one probably won't wash, nor will being on a diet. I did wonder if i said I was hungover that might be the easiest way to avoid questions? what do you think...

brightonbaby · 30/03/2009 20:51

I told a friend recently (who knew that I had not actually given anything up for Lent), that I'd just gone off alcohol and decided to have a bit of a break from it. It seemed to work, but I have 3 friends' 30th birthday parties coming up in April (after Easter) so will need to think of something better. Saying you're hungover is a good one.

ahappymummy Re: food to avoid. My pregnancy book says to avoid all upasteurized milk/cheese and feta cheese; mould ripened cheese like Brie and Camembert, blue-veined cheese like Stilton and Danish Blue (even if they're pasteurized).

Also, sheep and goat's milk and their products, all pates, raw or undercooked eggs and products containing them (home made mayonnaise) Raw meats and fish, including parma ham and sushi - really upset about this one

and raw or undercooked shellfish, oysters, mussels, cold prawns and crab.

pavlovthepregnantcat · 30/03/2009 21:00

I feel awful. I have no energy at all. I took DD to nursery and it wiped me out. I slept for 3 hours on and off (on leave from work today). I then went out with DH for a coffee in the afternoon. That was it for me. I feel just so physically exhausted. I have felt nauseous, gagged a couple of times. My eyes are hollow and I look as awful as I feel. Slight raised temp each evening too, Dr said last week I might have a virus, which could be it I guess, but no other symptoms, just pg ones. DH and I are arguing as I am just so tired and grumpy (well, few other reasons to but they would be more easily managed without feeling like this.

I have training tomorrow, don't think I can make it. I am meant to be starting an evening group for my job, finishing at 9pm twice a week for 3 months, in two weeks. I just do not know how I will be able to cope with it

pinkfizzle · 30/03/2009 21:41

Hi everyone,

Thanks for the list update Fruitpastels,
my due date now is 30 Oct 09 but my place on the list is spot on.

Wow - 64 of us! Despite being an Oct date I am staying with the November baby bunch as this is such a great thread. Vital for my sanity as I am playing secret squirrel with only dh and close family knowing. I keep thinking of the SATC episode where Miranda's pregnancy is blown at work.

Cupcake - if you can spare the cash for a scan then why not, go for it and then meet your MW. I was reassured by my scan.

Scarlotti - the very best of luck with your scan tomorrow.

My initial meeting with a GP which was an odd consultation. I won't bore you with all the details but a mini-selection of low points included:

GP trying to get me to select a hospital there and then (suggested one I don't want and would be a nightmare for me to travel to for appts) before taking any real details including what my edd would be -quite bizarre).

GP not wanting to take my blood pressure until a couple of weeks time, (despite me being concerned about my BP) oh I was also prescribed a topical treatment that is not appropriate for pregnant women.

I put it down to inexperienced GP either sensing I may throw up and not wanting me in the room, or GP being at the end of a long working day and still not wanting me in the room. I have politely requested another GP, 1st mtg with a new nhs GP will now be between 11 - 12 wks. Fingers and toes are crossed.

Anyhow a long post I know but ....

Here's to everyone having less nausea and being chilled out week with positive baby vibes.

pinkfizzle · 30/03/2009 21:49

Pavlov -I posted before seeing your thread.

Sounds like a super tough situation!

Try take some time out - you can't do it all, it is ok to accept when you sometimes can't cope and you will get through this. Working til 9pm is hard work , as is training.
Maybe let your work know you have a virus and Dr has suggested you don't spread it so you need to stay in and get some rest.

Take care.

LissyGlitter · 31/03/2009 00:06

Well I phoned my GPs to see if the pg test had come back yet and they chased it up-apparently my wee never arrived at the lab! So I have to go down there ( half hour walk) to get a pee pot, come home (another half hour), do a wee in the morning and walk all the way back there! At least I'll be getting my exercise!

Looks like we'll be moving in just over a month as well, so once I'm booked in with this midwife, I'll have to transfer it all over to newcastle!

helips · 31/03/2009 07:54

Morning all!

Good luck scarlotti and cupofteaplease with your scans today!

Lissy thats really annoying about your pregnancy test, hopefully now they will speed things up for you.

I have told close family and a handful of friends, basically people that I would tell if I did mc. I am 8 weeks 1 day now and feel like I'm getting somewhere. Only 4 weeks till I can tell the world, fingers crossed!

turtle23 how old is your dc? How many feeds are you still doing? ds is only having 1 feed now, I really want to stop soon but I've no idea how. I think I'm just hoping he'll stop on his own accord but is showing no signs so far!

cupcake thinking of you today, hope you are ok.

Have a nice day everyone, will try and check in later, this thread moves so fast and by the time I've caught up in the evening I'm too tired to add anything!!

Fruitpastels · 31/03/2009 08:05

Morning ladies,

scarlotti and cupofteaplease - Good luck with you scans today.

Cies · 31/03/2009 08:15

Brightonbaby

Re: Also, sheep and goat's milk and their products

AFAIK these are ok as long as they are pasteurised and in the case of cheese, hard. Can anyone confirm? I've already eaten plenty of Manchego cheese (hard sheep´s milk cheese) and a similar goat's milk cheese. I think the problem lies more with soft goat's cheese, does it not?

BeckyBendyLegs · 31/03/2009 08:29

Another good excuse for not drinking: taking antibiotics? People usually swallow that one. No pun intended!

I've got DS1's cold today. Blaaaa. At least I feel less sick with a snotty nose!

Cies · 31/03/2009 08:43

Oh, anyone else noticed a "slowing down of the digestive tract"? I've had to consciously force myself to up the amount of dried fruit and veg because I had a couple of days of not "going" at all (TMI).

iggypiggy · 31/03/2009 09:25

Had early scan yesterday and not good news the foestus is measuring too small at 6 1/2 weeks and not 7 1/2 weeks and the heart beat is very slow. Am pretty sure of my dates and doctor was very negative about the chances of it being ok. I have to go back on 8th April - but doctor said not to be surprised if I have a MC before then. He also thinks my lack of symptoms is a bad sign... so am feeling very low today.

Leannabanana · 31/03/2009 09:52

oh iggypiggy that is so sad. what a state of limbo to be in.....so sorry for you.

iggypiggy · 31/03/2009 09:55

have just noticed that can't spell foetus above

leannabanana thanks - is just v. frustrating to not know either way - cos i would like a very large Vodka if all is not ok.

pavlovthepregnantcat · 31/03/2009 10:49

iggy - oh I am sorry you had bad news . Fingers crossed your bean is just taking time to get kickstarted and it is more positive when you go back again. What a wait?! .

Went to see gp today, he has signed me off for a week. Said he would check blood results from when I see midwife on thursday, but thinks its too early to be anaemic. He did not really give much of an explanation, was just like oh dear, poor you.

pedalmonster · 31/03/2009 10:56

Oooh Iggypiggy thats so difficult for you! Poor you!

Today was the first day of actually throwing up - much to DS's amusement - while I was getting him dressed for nursery. Amazing - managed to deal with teh poo nappy but the moment I was trying to wrestle him into a t-shirt I had to run to the loo!

Is it normal when expecting the second one to have things happen much more quickly? I am only 6 wks and very nauseus, craving sun dried tomatos, and my waistband has increased! Can't get my top button done on my jeans... and I haven't eaten all the pies, honest!
Does my tummy just know what to do and get bigger quicker?

brightonbaby · 31/03/2009 10:59

Cies Yes, I think you're right. I should have said unpasteurized sheep and goat's milk and their products. Sorry for the confusion. I got a good leaflet in the bumpf from the GP's surgery, that listed all the things to eat and avoid. It's called 'from bump to baby'.

iggy I'm really sorry. It's still early days though. Hope it is all much better for you on April 8th.

I too have no symptoms and wondered if I should be worried about that.

pavlovthepregnantcat · 31/03/2009 11:05

pedal - yes it all goes quicker! I was wondering the same as my belly has filled out already and I am having to seriously consider buying some new trousers as only one pair fit now . I asked Dr, he said it does happen more quickly for the reasons you said, but also said it should slow down a little once womb is properly in place. But probably not for long !
