ursigurke · 03/03/2009 17:39

Grendle, thanks for your advice. I thought too it is best to decide now to be referred to the scans and see later if it was the best choice. How can I get in touch with the midwives directly? At the hospital? As far as I understood, once referred to the hospital they would contact me about the further care. Is that normal (in London)? Or did I missunderstand? I've asked the receptionist twice if I did not need to speak to the GP again. (I guess otherwise they would have called me by now anyway)

MrsLadybug · 04/03/2009 05:35

Yes browntrout, am exhausted, I see you have a 2yo too - is all pretty tiring trying to keep everything organised. Consider yourselves lucky those in UK - I am in asia and sometimes the system can be very odd. Although I do get monthly scans so that is quite cool although don't how good that is for the baby??

I am assuming that the list will over double in size considering that we have only reached the 11th so far! Great to chat about it whilst it's all a bit hush hush!! Anyone have 2 already and reccomend a good double push chair???

Hope everyone is having a good week.

MrsLadybug · 04/03/2009 05:36

Please excuse my bad writing - words seemed to have run away with me!

lemontop · 04/03/2009 15:59

Hi

Can I join in? Just wrote a reply but seem to have lost it.

I got a BFP last Friday so should be about 5 weeks and due about 5th November. It's my first and I'm very nervous and excited at the same time. I just want these first 12 weeks to fly by.

ursigurke · 04/03/2009 16:12

Congratulations lemontop!
For me it's the first one too. Time is really passing too slowly. And I'm currently having difficulties to focus on anything else.

Hi Lemontop and Ursigurke

This is my first too , to be honest having difficulty trying not to obbsess think about it all the tiem, could do with a welcome distraction till I reach the 12 week mark

Mrsladybug its lovely to be able to chat so openly on mn when we are all so hushed in rl

How is everyone else with symptoms? think i had my first taste of morning sickness today. Feeling a bit dizzy on and off, and getting the occassional crampy feeling in my stomach, they are mild though, not painful

LackaDAISYcal · 04/03/2009 18:52

Congratulations to you all from another November 08er November babies are great as they get you off with doing a big Christmas thing and then they are doing the exploring/crawling thing in the summer when it's nice and warm (well in theory anyway).

Oh, and you don't straddle a Christmas when pregnant, so don't have to abstain over a festive period

weston · 04/03/2009 20:18

Evening all! Another addition to the club - due 12th Novemer..found out for sure today with the fantastic clear blue bold 'pregnant' words - the best test ever! did the first reposnse earlier in the week and spent hours trying to work out whether it was a faint line or not! I'm sure if you look long enough u can see things! My duaghter turned 2 today and I always said I would review no. 2 on her birthday so a timely arrival! Amazed how soon symptoms arrived, prob a week after 'the deed' staring feeling nauseous! Torn between telling everyone and waiting for the scan. think will pay for the nucal at 10 weeks.

Congrats everyone!

ButtercupWafflehead · 05/03/2009 09:06

Hi everyone and congrats to those who have joined in!

My Dr is phoning today - apparently the first stage in ante-natal care around these parts, so that will make it all more official to me! We're planning not to tell anyone until the scan is done so it's nice to be able to talk openly on here!

(Just wonder whether my tummy will stay schtum until the 12 week mark!)

ButtercupWafflehead · 05/03/2009 09:16

ps - WESTON - That's impressive timing!

browntrout · 05/03/2009 09:34

I have the driest mouth in the world! It is really annoying and is worse at night. Never had this last time but googling it reveals it to be a common symptom. Well I never. Hope eveyone well and congratulations to new arrivals

lemontop · 05/03/2009 11:43

I think I'm starting to experience the first signs of morning sickness, although it is definitely not in the morning thank goodness.

About 5pm-6pm I've been feeling a bit dizzy. Had to have a little lie down yesterday. I'm also being a bit stupid. I missed my stop on the train yesterday and keep banging into things. That might just be me and have nothing to do with being pregnant though!

Looking forward to sharing experiences on here and hopefully getting some advice from those that've been through it all before.

ButtercupWafflehead · 05/03/2009 12:09

Hi lemontop! I used to get evening sickness on my first PG, I found the only way to combat it was never to be hungry, so I nibbled all day on savoury energy-filled things like oatcakes.

I noticed earlier this week (before I took the test!) that I seemed suddenly unable to play the piano so perhaps all the hormones etc are making us a bit ditzy!

I have a yucky taste in my mouth all day at the moment, not sure if I'd describe it as "metallic" though.

AutumnLady · 05/03/2009 12:39

Wow, a Nov 09 thread!! I was on the Nov 08 thread and my DS was born 03.11.08. It's hard to believe that a year ago I was tentatively writing on a thread like this and now have a very bouncy boy who I adore

Good luck to you all and November babies rule!

chocotastic · 05/03/2009 12:44

Well, a lot has happened in the last few days. Welcome to all newbies .

I spoke too soon about feeling fine and have just recovered from 48 hours vomiting. Feel fine now so am putting it down to a nasty but rather than the pregnancy. Though I second Buttercup on the not getting hungry thing as I also suffered late afternoon/evening nausea with DS and found the only thing that helped was nibbling on crackers.

Ursigurke, your doctor sounds as useless as mine. Went to him all excited when I found I was expecting DS and was v disappointed when all he said was he would pass me on to the midwives. No advice and he also said I wouldn't get a scan until 20 weeks as that is the policy here. Turns out he is well out of touch as that changed years ago and we get the full dating/nuchal scan at 12 weeks! I keep threatening to move elsewhere but as am rarely ill and his practice is just at the end of the road I have been too lazy to do anything about it. Anyway, in my case the midwife then contacted me directly after that and we didn't have anything more to do with the doctor (we are in London too).

helips · 05/03/2009 13:06

Hello Ladies, may I join the thread?

Got a bfp on Monday and am soooo excited! This will be baby number 2 for me as I already have an 18 month old ds. I think my due date is 9th Nov but need to get it confirmed by my doctor. Annoyingly I couldn't get an appointment until a week Monday.

I'm finding it really hard not telling people so will be great to be able to share things with you guys. Mind you, I have told close family and my best friend but want to tell the world! Will try and hold out until the 12 week scan but have been thinking about trying to get an earlier one to put my mind at rest. Anyone know how to go about this? I don't mind paying.

Hope everyone is well and look forward to getting to know you all over the coming months...

Grendle · 05/03/2009 15:44

Congrats to all the newbies .

Ursigurke -you could ring your GP surgery and simply ask to make an appointment with the community midwife. No need to say anything more than that. She'll know how everything works .

lemontop · 05/03/2009 16:53

I've got my GP appointment tomorrow. I'm a bit nervous she's going to tell me it's all in my head and I'm not pregnant at all!

Will they do a pg test?

ursigurke · 05/03/2009 17:13

grendle - thanks. I thought already I'll give them a few more days to see if I'll be contacted by a midwife as chocotastic mentioned that's what happened in her case.
lemontop - In my case they didn't do a pg test.
I think, it is impossible to get a positive pg test if you are not pregnant. So if you did a positive test yourself, it means that you are pregnant, especially if you even have some nice symptoms ... which reminds me, it's time for me to take a nap!

piper84 · 05/03/2009 19:32

Welcome helips and congratulations

Lemontop, my doctor didn't do a test either, as ursigurke said it is impossible to get a postive hpt if you are not pregnant

how are all the symptoms ladies? Was quiet sick today and yesterday and had the most horrible heartburn last night

Morning ladies. Woke up at 4.30 as my husband had to catch a plane and couldn't go back to sleep. At least morning sickness is done for today (not too heavy usually)
piper84 - I know the heartburn problem. I've read that eating nuts or almonds would help (you need to chew them for a while). In my case it made everything worse. If I now eat nuts without having heartburn, I'll get it. Hope I'm not developing some sort of nut allergy I quite like them

lemontop · 06/03/2009 08:40

I woke up ridiculuously erly this morning too. Thanks ursigurke and piper84. I know I'm pregnant but not thinking logically. I guess the docs appointment will make it feel more real!

weston · 06/03/2009 17:05

helips i am thinking of going for early scan as know far too many horror stories and 12 weeks is a looong way away! if u do a search on internet u will find a local private practice, babyvision in shrewsbury cover midland area and they charge around £50 for early scan at around 8 weeks, think u if do nuchal etc there u get it all cheaper

i have this awful feeling of twins...there is none in either family but the thought feel me with dread!!
