Woohoo! Congrats Trace and Babblington!

Loved the contraction updates from trace

Oli very pleased for you

I relly feel for those of you who have popped and are struggling with bf etc. Keep talking about it, do post on the feeding section here and you will get no end of good advice and if you are in any doubt about the competency of your MW of HV use those numbers Kayz posted.

Had 2 good nights from ds, am attempting to turn into supermum rather than tired and grouchy mum and give him lots and lots of attention and play etc to help him feel more settled.

Got the MW later today, this child is showing no signs of shifting after all the dropping and cramping it did at 36 weeks. Am resigned to going over as with ds. I was fending off comments yesterday though. I do Rainbows, go to a friend nearby during Brownies and come back for Guides so I see all the parents in between meetings. My Rainbow parents are sympathetic at least (younger kids I suppose, a lot of them have tiny ones too) but others were doing the whole "gosh you look ready to drop" thing and making me want to hit them.

Right ds moaning, shall parcel him up and takin ghim to town. Want to get candy canes for the Christmas tree before woolies shuts and have a 20% off voucher for waterstones so may raid the kids section

OrangeCrush · 11/12/2008 13:58

Traceface well done - what quick work! Love the name Martha (good job I'm not having a girl or might have had to share )

Babblington well done also - how jealous am I that your little boy came nice and early...and home in time for breakfast

Looking forward to some lovely birth stories.

kayzisexpecting · 11/12/2008 14:00

Oooops

Oli I meant to say YAY for results. Now you can relax and wait for baby to arrive.

Turniphead1 · 11/12/2008 14:02

Oh my goodness - I go out for a few hours to the M/ws and come back and tis baby's galore!!!

How exciting!!! Big congrats to Trace and Babblington on their little pair. Love the name Phoebe. Babblington - we need to add a section in the sweepstakes for fastest turnaround out of hospital for you! Well done...

I am so sorry so many people are feeling sad. Abby is there ANY way of stamping your feet/begging and getting your section early? Sounds so uncomfortable for you in so many ways.

ZJ grr about oven door. It is ALWAYS a week or so after the warranty runs out.

oli glad on the immunity - great news.

Icecube there is a pressure point on your foot called the Great Expeller! That's why its supposed to work - esp when you combine with Clary Sage oil.

Jam that is so irritating?! What, they expect to sit in your front room with DS rather than taking him to their house/out and about. How bizarre and annoying!

Cat I am sending you big hugs you sound so down. Your Mum and you may bond over the baby, but you are best to limit her being around until you know how you feel (as best you can).

Arti get yourself to the Krispy Kreme counter in Selfridges and indulge. Hopefully all kicks off soon.

I was very tearful last night/this am. Have the following (self-pity alert...) starting from the head down.. - toothache caused by knackered pg gums; cough and sore throat; painful tummy/cervix; agonising fr*gging piles (again); spd. Only my feet are fine

Was in shocking form driving to hospital this am. Took ages to get a parking space. Found one had indicator on to reverse intoone I finally found, when two women drove into the two spots. I got out and explained I had been there before them and was clearly indicating. They refused to move. I have to confess I told them to eff off (how low class of me, I am mortified).

I then went to my M/W appointment and cried and cried about all my ailments. She was so lovely - she is one of my favourites and looked after me postnatally last time. She went away of and got me some strong lidnocaine for the piles, bless her. Then went and spent a fortune (which shouldn't have) in Neals Yard on aromatherapy for piles and the Seaweed and Arnica bath foam that Veggie recommended. Feel much better now. Sorry for the rant! Off for a bath.

TheInvisibleHand · 11/12/2008 14:03

Hooray for traceface and babblington! Sounds like it all went relatively smoothly (I hope anyway).

Oh and in case it makes anyone feel better, DD does the f*ck/fork thing as well!

Olipop · 11/12/2008 14:06

Oh Turnip - you poor old thing! I'd have a glass of wine in the bath if I were you....who cares...we're on the home straight now (can you feel my delirious relief vibes coming through!!!!)

DisenchantedPlusBump · 11/12/2008 14:09

Sorry Dis no idea, if it is a UTI the antibios should start working in 24hrs. In the meantime try to take it easy drink lots of water and rest as much as you can.

Thanks Oli and Turnip I know I think they thought they would sit in my front room while I made them cups of tea inbetween contractions. DP has phoned them and put them straight and bless my mum has said if needs be she will make Dad come home from work and drive her to me to pick up A and look after him.

More congratulations to Trace and Babbington.

Have just booked in for some accupuncture on Saturday to see if we can shift the bubba.

Olipop · 11/12/2008 14:40

Oh disenchanted...I don't know....I have no experience of this but hope you are ok...

artichokes · 11/12/2008 14:40

Congratulations Trace and Babblington, can anyone else squeeze one out before midnight in order to make this our most productive day yet?

I decided not to go to Selfridges as my heartburn is still killing. Met up with a friend and pottered round local shops instead.

TMI Alert re shows: I have had several bits of show over the week. Normally clear globs of gel sometimes streaked with blood. Today I am getting lots of really stringy bit of opaque discharge also tinged with blood. Is that still a show or is a show always clear gel? Told you it was TMI!

missmama · 11/12/2008 14:43

Hi all, how fantastic all these babies, so exciting.

I have had a consultants appointment this morning as the midwife thinks the baby is getting too big and now my blood pressure has started creeping up, when it has always been perfect.
But the consultant couldn't agree with herself over what to do with me
First she booked me in for monitoring on the 2nd Jan (my due date was moved a while ago to 23/12) and said that she could see no problems with me going over. She then actually looked at a calendar and decided to have me in for full monitoring on the morning of 23rd. So she went off to book that. When she came back in she then decided that I needed monitoring next week as well, so went off again and booked that. Then cancelled it and told me to see my midwife 2 or 3 times next week for checks instead of coming to the hospital.

So this afternoon I had to go and see the midwife and pass all this on to her and to try and get booked in 3 times next week when she usually has trouble fitting me in just the once.
She was really lovely about it and will be coming to my house 3 mornings next week to save me having to go out to see her
And with all the talk of sweeps lately I asked if we could discuss me having one next week [me meaning talk to her next week about when I would be able to have one] she said their should be no problem about doing one early and it would be nice for me to have it in the comfort of my own home

So I went from having no booked appointments until January to having 4 in the next week and a half!!

waitinggirl · 11/12/2008 14:46

trace and bablington - hurrah for both of you! well done!

LadyT - MIL comments have been priceless. i masochistically want you to see more of her to keep them coming...

oli - great news on the immunity!

had my graduation ceremony yesterday - jo brand got an honourary fellowship and gave a wonderful speech, which was a bonus (as well as being introduced delightfully by patrick marber). there were a load of BAs graduating, as well as us MAs - no one knows me from adam there, but as i got up to receive the limp handshake from the man with no sense of humour sitting in the grand chair and wearing a fetching rancid yellow gown, i got a round of applause for the bump - aaaah, bless!

now, only one more hour of teaching tomorrow and then i am OFFICIALLY ON MATERNITY LEAVE (or rather, claiming the small, but very welcome amount of money the state is going to give me for being self-employed). hurrah!

TMI alert - my bum itches in the morning and night - is this piles? what do people recommend?

DisenchantedPlusBump · 11/12/2008 14:48

Thanks

am being horribly selfish here, but keep crying. I cant carry on with these pains for another 2 weeks, 3 maybe 4!

artichokes · 11/12/2008 14:50

Oh Disenchanted, it sounds like you are having a rubbish time. I am afraid I have no idea what to advise in your situation but it sounds like the baby most be pretty low down which bodes well for a quick labour . Can you get a fav DVD and some naughty snacks and lie under the duvet with a hot water bottle to cheer yourself up?

zoejeanne · 11/12/2008 14:52

Hurrah for Trace ? a lovely name for your little girl, I hope the birth went smoothly for you. . And congratulations to babblington too on your boy, looking forward to hearing his name

Turnip ? sorry you feel so miserable, I think you did the right thing by going to Neals Yard. Could you ask the MW if she can give you a prescription for the treats you bought? I?m sure they are medicinal ?!

Disenchanted ? I?m afraid I can?t offer any advice, but just send big hugs. Could you see another MW? Hope someone more helpful comes along to help you out soon

Jam ? well done to DP for having a word with the IL?s, and with your parents on board too, childcare should all go swimmingly now ? one less thing to worry about

Missmama ? that all sounds very confusing, but what a lovely MW (should we add a nicest MW to the sweepstake too?)

WG ? congratulations on the graduation, and on the applause for babyWG ? I hope it heard all the clapping and felt proud inside of you

abbymeg · 11/12/2008 15:03

disenchanted sounds like you're similar to me. Is it your first baby? MW said it's not uncommon to experience pain for a while before birth with a second baby. It's no fun, I know exactly how you feel. At least you know that it is building up towards labour.

Thank you to everyone for the concern and kind words. It is appreciated. I'm still getting pains, but not as regular - although they are more intense. I had a MW apt just now and she said that she wouldn't be surprised if I don't make it until Monday. However, given that he's only 1/5 engaged, I'm not holding my breath. It all depends on my cervix, which is currently solid as concrete and doing sod all.

I think the drugs have worn off - baby has gone totally bonkers. He seems intent on punching his way out.

Turnip they didn't seem to want to budge over dates. I was hoping some nice doctor might say there was space today and I might as well stay in. But no such luck. I guess they want to stick to the plan as much as they can.

abbymeg · 11/12/2008 15:06

Trace and Babblington Huge congratulations .

WG Congratulations on your graduation and well done .

rosmerta · 11/12/2008 15:06

Hi everyone, hope you're all ok. I know I've missed loads and probably some announcements as well so I'll go back & have a read but in the meantime...

Just thought I'd quickly post & let you know that Sean James was born Weds at 3.30am, 9lb 7oz!

I didn't get my homebirth as when we rang, there wasn't a homebirth midwife on duty but we could go to the birth centre. I laboured there for about 3hrs but they couldn't get an accurate read on the baby's heartbeat and thought it was very low so had to be moved to the labour ward. Anyway, at 3am I'd still only dilated to 4cms though the contractions were about every 1-2mins & had been since we rang, the mw thought it would be a good idea to monitor the baby with an internal monitor which meant breaking my waters, that they then realised had meconium in so it was action stations from that point. I got about a 5min transition period when I fell asleep, only to wake up screaming that I needed to push. Mw was great, just telling me to do what my body needed to and 30mins later, Sean was born absoulely fine! We had to stay in overnight because of the meconium but there hasn't been any problems. He has been bf (yayy!) but I'm still not certain he's latching on properly as my nipples are really sore when he latches on. And I can't tell either if he's eating or just sucking for comfort! But other than that he's gorgeous, and ds1 has been very sweet & gentle with him!

Phew, sorry for the marathon post but thought I'd get it out of the way! Dh & ds1 have gone out now & ds2 asleep so I'm going to join him.

I'll catch you all later

abbymeg · 11/12/2008 15:07

turnip It sounds like you've been having a hard time too. I hope your bath helps .

abbymeg · 11/12/2008 15:09

Rosmerta Massive congratulations and what a good size!

zoejeanne · 11/12/2008 15:11

congratulations to Rosmerta - great to hear that Sean arrived so well, despite the meconium worries etc - well done

waitinggirl · 11/12/2008 15:18

rosmerta - wow, congratulations - sounds a tad hairy, but well well done you and sean!

Kimberly1979 · 11/12/2008 15:26

Turnip
(----BIG HUGS----) for you!! Sorry you are hurting all over. Hope that the bath will help. Which MW was it that you saw?? Maybe I'll get to meet her next week.

Congrats babblington!! Disechanted sorry to hear that you are also feeling rubbish. Did they check you for kidney stones?? I had one a while back and those things hurt and they can cause symptoms of labour. It made my back hurt and would come around into the front feeling like a contraction. Make sure you are drinking lots of fluids.

WG congrats on graduating!! That's awesome that the crowd gave you some extra applause for babyWG!!!

Anyone know where I can buy scented oils to put into bath salts?? I am wanting to make some Christmas presents and I'm not sure where to find the oils... I also need food coloring and haven't been able to find it at Tesco. Maybe I'm not looking in the right place for it.

Kimberly1979 · 11/12/2008 15:30

Congrats Rosemerta!!!
