EffiePerine · 11/12/2008 15:38

Wow, three new babies! Congratulations to Trace, babblington and Rosmerta . Loving the names.

Rosmerta: Ii had the meconium thing with DS, a pain having to stay in hospital but no further problems.

Abby and Hatty: sorry to hear about hospital stays. Abby: hoping the baby hangs on till Monday if that's what you want.

Disenchanted: I've been having lots of pains and tightening as well, doesn't feel like contractions though. Chocolate helps .

Oli: yay for immunity! Full steam ahead for that homebirth

Arti: sounds like a show to me

Cat: sorry you;re feeling rubbish. Babies can help the mother-daghter relationship but complicate it as well, the important thing is that YOU feel comfortable so tell your mum to butt out if you need to. I have informed mine that once again she can visit when I'm in hospital, then it's 2 weeks veto before any more visitors. She sounded a bit cross but knows me well enough not to argue

After my plans to spend much of today in bed, ended up scrubbing the flat for a prospective buyer who wanted to come round at lunchtime. Usually a fairly relaxed slattern about such things, but find myself industriously mopping and dusting at the idea of strangers judging our lovely (IMO) flat. Hasn't set anything off, good thing too . I'd like to book a baby for just before Christmas please - around the 23rd would be good I reckon. When is the full moon? DS was born on a full moon and the ward was packed.

EffiePerine · 11/12/2008 15:39

OK, full moon in the 13th. Any bets on how many babies?

theyoungvisiter · 11/12/2008 15:55

Hi everyone, congratulations to all the new arrivals!

Sorry I haven't been on for a while but I've been sooooo tired, I have been doing the "sleep when the baby sleeps" thing - or in the case of 2nd time mums, sleep on the rare occassions when the baby sleeps and some kind person has taken the toddler out of earshot for half an hour. Unfortunately having DS1 out of the house seems to be a sure recipe for DS2 suddenly perking up for half an hour of wide-eyed gazing.

Sorry to hear about the people having difficulties with BF. One thing I would say is that if you are having trouble there is absolutely no substitute for going down to a proper breast-feeding drop in and getting them to observe a full feed, start to finish, in person. A 5 minute check of the baby's latch by the MW or HV isn't always enough to sort out any ishoos.

Anyway DS2 had a good night last night so am now desperately trying to recreate whatever we did yesterday that helped him to sleep!

waitinggirl · 11/12/2008 16:04

ladyt - i meant, of course, to say sadistically, not masochistically.

i even confused "desert" with "dessert" the other day. and this from someone who is second only to Lynne Truss in terms of correct grammar/spelling. arse.

Kimberly1979 · 11/12/2008 16:21

Has anyone heard from kmp1?? Wasn't she supposed to have her CS yesterday?

OrangeCrush · 11/12/2008 16:22

Oooo Effie what's this about full moons? Is there still hope I might have a baby this week? I don't mind turning pagan if it helps (just finishing my Christmas cards, so no one needs know...!)

artichokes · 11/12/2008 16:33

Full moon is tomorrow at about 16:30. Its meant to mean alot of births and busy wards. Good luck to all those waiting!

Veggiemummy · 11/12/2008 16:35

oh and have finally got round to writing my birth plan: draft here if you want to comment:

Indith · 11/12/2008 17:11

I was looking at the moon on my way home from MW effie and arti and thinking it was a good sign Here's hoping anyway.

Turnip enjoy your goodies and your bath, you sound as though you need them

Disenchanted you poor thing, sounds like you are having a tough time. Take good care of yourself, rty to get comfortable with a hotwater bottle/bath if you can. Remember that everything your body is doing is helping to gear it up for the main event, even if at the moment it doesn't seem like it is ever going to happen.

Congratulations Rosmerta

Congratulations on graduation WG

Sorry to anyone I have missed, ds has decided to start throwing a temper tantrum for some unknown reason

kayzisexpecting · 11/12/2008 17:30

Congratulations Rosmerta!!!!!!

Apparently my consultant is the same with everyone wanting a HB. He always rings the MW of the pg lady to try and talk them out of it.

I feel really icky this evening. We're probably having takeaway pizza, so I'm hoping it will make me feel better.

abbymeg · 11/12/2008 17:38

Kayz joining you with the pizza. There's no way I'm cooking and contracting!

Olipop · 11/12/2008 18:07

Hello....yippeee...been desperate to tell you about Rosmerta but resisted temptation!!!!! Didn't know the full birth story though...sounds pretty intense. We are under the same hospital....maybe the homebirth is not so cut and dried! At least you got to test out the lovely new birthing center.

Been so lazy....went to bed to read my book at 3 (DS at nursery) and didn't get up til about 5.30!!! But now all dozy feeling and can't wake up properly!

kayzisexpecting · 11/12/2008 18:13

My DH is really doing my head in this evening. I don't even know why but I honestly want to hit him with a frying pan. Please tell me it could be a sign labour is just around the corner.

Indith · 11/12/2008 19:01

Nah tis just a sign of a healthy marriage

kayzisexpecting · 11/12/2008 19:25

It must be that then. He has stopped annoying me now, so thats good.

LadyThompson · 11/12/2008 19:52

Evening girls. Every time I hope I am going to catch up with everyone individually (I envy Bisou her diligence as well as her sewing skills - and her voice as well, not that I've ever heard it but I'm sure it's lovely). But I am typing with a baby on my shoulder and - oh, now supper is ready. Hm. Back soon...

Turniphead1 · 11/12/2008 19:56

Rosmerta - yay for baby Sean and sounds hairy but a very good outcome. Well done oli for keeping schtum... and for getting some well needed down time.

kayz my DH was driving me nuts last night too - I am sure its a sign of impending labour ... it's what I am saying about everything at the mo...Maybe you will be a full moon gal?

Kimberly you could get a nice essential oil like jasmine at Neals Yard on St John's High street next time you are at J&L. I saw Becky today - I heart her - and she flatshares with my other favourite midwife there (who delivered DS last time). My dream would be for both of them to be there on D-Day!

WG congrats on your degree. That's amazing! And sounds like a great ceremony. I love Jo Brand and would love to hear her speak in RL.

effie wow at all the cleaning! My DS was born on a full moon too! Its funny how it affects childbirth rates.

indith hope your DS calms down! and Veggie I really want some of those Taste the Diff biccoes myself now....

Bath was lovely but may have overdone it on the aromatherapy. Bit headachey. I see Kate W is up for a Golden Globe for Revolutionary Road (oh and Lady T and ...pg brain gone blank the other Yates and Updike fans...I am a bit nervous about how it will transpose to film). Also looking foward to Doubt with Meryl Streep (all cheery old films). More immediately we are taking the DC to see Madagascar hopefully on sunday.

katie3677 · 11/12/2008 20:10

No-one has answered my sex question...does nobody know how soon after c-section you can partake, or are you all too polite to discuss the subject?!?!?
Congratulations Rosmerta. Babies are coming thick and fast now. Hope those of you desperate to get them out don't have to wait too much longer.
Must go and put DS to bed, have been very slack about bedtime since DD came along. Have a good evening everyone.
Galaxy was great by the way, and DH couldn't even tell me off about eating half a giant bar as I told him it was medicinal, doesn't chocolate have laxative effects? Well, it worked anyway!

mibbes · 11/12/2008 20:11

modernlove thanks for posting your experience with BF. I took the opportunity to try again last night as DS was alert and approaching feed time. Amazingly he remained calm and started sucking ! The trouble is that it excruciating so I was screaming/lauging which caused him to come off. My nipples have had skin come off and are bleedy from expressing so I guess that was contributing to the pain. Also using lansinoh so maybe when they heal a bit we can try again . Am expressing 120ml per half hour session twice a day so getting enough for 4 out of 6 feeds .

Olipop hurray for immunity

trace congrats - that was quick !

abby how frustrating having to wait - pity you didn't get section there and then. Mind you sounds like things may kick off before Monday now...

Congrats Rosmerta what a good sized baby !

WG well done you

Bablington congrats, lovely news

OrangeCrush your name always makes me so thirsty !

reban · 11/12/2008 20:14

wow congratulations rosmerta bablington and trace glad all went well and you have your lovely new little ones to snuggle. I am very jealous, not due til 20th but i made the mistake of telling a few people i had a show yesterday so everyone is expecting me ti give brith NOW! very frustrating as i too would like to give birth NOW but baby has other ideas still, having an indian takeaway to see if a bit of spiciness helps!

well doen on your immunity results oli andhope you get the home birth you want

WG congrats on your graduation .. i was 9 weeks pregnant with my dd when i graduated from uni and i was soooo ill, i actually look green in the official picture!

DP back with dd from gym and takeaway so off to stuff my face!

mibbes · 11/12/2008 20:15

katie I think we are all too knackered to even contemplate sex ! I wasn't told when was safe after CS so have no idea. I think LadyThompson asked this before and the answer was as soon as you stop bleeing and feel ok wound-wise. I guess it is up to you

Actually LT you mentioned that you were told not to take a bath post-CS, I wasn't told not to do anything, was yhere anything else banned other than driving ?

Verso · 11/12/2008 20:15

Congratulations to traceface, babblington and rosmerta! They're coming thick and fast now Fab.

And congratulations to wg on your MA. Huge achievement to complete it while pg. A well-deserved round of applause I think!

I must do my birth story before I forget it all... I will write it offline then cut and paste I think (you have been warned).

DD2 was fab last night - 10:30, 3:30 (then a blip where she fed solidly until 5:30am) then slept until 8:30am. Amazing. I just hope this continues!!! BF is going well but I'm scared to jinx it as I have the poxy bossy midwives clinic tomorrow and she has to be weighed again. Got our referral for "prolonged jaundice" today too - going to the children's hospital on Tuesday for an assessment. Sigh. I hope things are improving though... for one thing, when she's alert she's very alert!

Sorry to ramble on. DH goes back to work tomorrow . I will miss him.

Turniphead1 · 11/12/2008 20:19

katie sorry didn't answer your Q about sex as have never had a c-section (and indeed have always had to bring myself to do the deed post baby at about 10-12 weeks)!! But I googled it...

Here it says you need to wait 6 weeks til you have had your 6 week check up pregnancy.about.com/od/postpartum/qt/sexcesarean.htm But here it says 3-4 weeks . Both of those are by doctors.

Yahoo answers seems to suggest 6 weeks Yahoo

You may want to give your M/W or HV a call and ask them.

Verso · 11/12/2008 20:19

katie I think you can 'partake' as soon as you feel up to it and your cervix has closed/you've stopped bleeding.

You lot are all very keen .
