JamInMyWellies · 30/12/2008 12:36

Effie I cant remember where you are based but I think you are E. London, there is a holistic center in London Fields where they do preg accupuncture. Cant for the life of me remember what its called but google should find it for you.

EffiePerine · 30/12/2008 13:27

No appts with Gillian till next week at Shine, but have booked snake oil reflexology for this afternoon . May give her a ring after NYE if no further signs.

Turnip: sounds like you're finally on your way! I remember feeling contractions extending round to my back with DS and his position was fine, so try not to worry

Find it a bit odd to be hoping to feel painful contractions!

Turniphead1 · 30/12/2008 14:03

Still here. Only every 10 mins ...ooops here comes one..
back again. Had forgotten to press space bar after the last one, so Contractionmaster showed that as a 7 minute duration contraction rather than that much apart.

We may go in in the next hour just to get enough time to get the IV antibiotics but hope it is all this side of midnight. The m/w who delivered my DS is on tonight! Hurray!

majormoo · 30/12/2008 14:18

Good luck Turnip-sounds like things are starting.

Congratulations Bisou and all the other new mums. I haven't been on for days so have been trying to catch up with the news. Having three children is totally chaotic-god knows how I am ever going to get DD to school on time next week.

Whoever was talking about feeling weepy-I had a real moment on Christmas day. DS1 was going to the park with my dad, so I dressed him in his coat and scarf-he looked so sweet I said 'who's my special boy?' and he pointed to his new brother and said 'Jesse is.' It made me really tearful to think he is already feeling pushed out. Mind you, I seem to have been more upset by it than him.

Must go as my constantly feeding baby is crying again for yet more milk. God it is hard work!

VersOComeAllYeFaithful · 30/12/2008 14:42

My HV recommended Netmums too and had never heard of Mumsnet . DD2 bili level right down and has gained 9oz this week . Back later to do personals!

majormoo · 30/12/2008 14:57

Thought I'd quickly post my birth story whilst I briefly have some peace and quiet:
Am still so chuffed the birth went so well. I had had contractions on Thurs 18th (during which time I did lovely relaxing things like nit comb DD's hair!) but they completely stopped by the next morning, so really felt I would end up with an induction. Went to my midwife for a sweep that afternoon, and it turned out my waters were bulging out and my cervix was 'thin and effaced'!! Really odd as I had no contractions at this point. She thought we would not make it to the birthing centre, but luckily Brighton hospital was closed to new maternity admissions as they were really busy, so we went to the birthing centre rather than be sent to a hospital just as far away. It was so calm and relaxing and the water birth was just fantastic. We got there at 6pm and Jesse was born at 9.18pm. Odd to think a few hours earlier I had been chatting to the other mums at the school gates. Not one stitch (and had LOADS with my other son) and recovering afterwards was lovely. Felt like being in a B&B! There were 2 of us there the first night and 5 the second, so it was great to have peace and quiet. It was really sociable as well-I really enjoyed having roast dinner with 4 other mums on the Sunday with the babies all lined up in their cots next to each other. For all my midwife's concern, my waters never did break-they had to be broken as I pushed his head out!

EffiePerine · 30/12/2008 15:38

majormoo, that sounds like a great experience

Hooray for Verso's DD's weight gain!

Reflexology was v relaxing, but he did say the baby might hang on till the full moon

GOOD LUCK Turnip!

rosmerta · 30/12/2008 15:54

Hi everyone,

Congratulations indith turnip hope it happens soon for you!

effie have my fingers crossed the reflexology works for you!

Catdean I used the baby whisperer first time around & I've got the book out again now. It does take a while to settle into &, whilst babies seem to like routine (mine do anyway!), I don't think they're really ready for it until they're about 6 weeks old. Having said that the bed advice has been working for us and ds will now sleep in his moses basket & will settle again with some pats rather than having to be held. I also find the body language & types of cries useful as it did stop me feeding him all the time when that wasn't what he wanted!

EffiePerine · 30/12/2008 16:11

Email from Hatty:

Just to let you know that our beautiful little girl arrived speedily and safely at 9pm on Boxing Day. Ursula Isabel weighed in at 8lb 5oz and is doing well. Sorry not to have caught up with anyone, for some infuriating reason our december thread keeps crashing our pc!

have caught up list

Interesting that we 3 Christmas baby bearers all had to have emC/S.

Will catch up on personals later, hope everyone is doing ok.

Bxx

SummerLightning · 30/12/2008 17:46

Thanks Bisou!!

I thought that too, re the emergency c-sections. It never really crossed my mind I would have to have a c-section. I knew the baby was quite small and I have been healthy throughout the pregnancy so I just assumed it wouldn't happen. As such I know nothing about normal recovery etc afterwards. It's still a pain in the arse to get out of bed/move around etc, can't pick things up off the floor. Is this normal? And should I be trying to move around/walk etc, or resting as much as possible? I just want to get better!! (I know it's not been that long, and I know normal births can take just as long to recover from but I am impatient!)

Had a nightmare night last night hardly got any sleep, hope tonight is better!! Me and DH are taking it in turns to have daytime sleeps, his turn at the moment!

Congrats to indith and hatty

Good luck to turnip

Oh and I have been weepy as well but I think it's the lack of sleep and mobility that are getting me down rather than anything hormonal.

jumpjockey · 30/12/2008 18:11

Grr to laptops and trying to type one handed, just deletd a whole message...

hooray for indith and hatty's new arrivals!

good luck to turnip and effie, hope you're both meeting your little ones soon

bisou thanks for your sterling work! intersting that only 3 babies arrived on their 'due date'...

weepiness - I'm clearly still far too hormonal, was singing along to the Carpenters 'on top of the world' to dd and it made me sob . I've been having a weepy moment most days, usually from being amazed at dd but sometimes jusrt from tiredness and not being able to cope when she's crying or kicking my sore boobs - everyone i've spoken to says they cry more easily now that they're parents.

SL if you need anything but don't feel up to getting out of the house just text me, you're not far away DH gave me a mini keg of summer lightning for xmas to make up for all the pints of tasty ale i've been missing out on for the last 9 months

jumpjockey · 30/12/2008 18:13

oooh we need a new thread - or are we all about to decamp to post-natal...?

How about December 08 - a few babies under the tree still need unwrapping ???!

Indith · 30/12/2008 18:45

Copy and pasting from my post natal thread, have had a bit if a tricky time. Congrats to all the babies. Are we waiting on many now?

Right. Dd is called Daisy. She will be Margaret on her birth certificate but she is very much being known by the diminutive at the moment. According to my gran Daisy is ghastly and Margaret is common. Excellent grin

Anyway. Around 12.30am I started waking up, tossing about and going to the loo lots, by 2.30 the niggles were too much to sleep through so I got up, paced around, booted up the computer thinking smeone on MN would be up to chat to but by the time I got the page up rocking hips wasn't getting me through contractions any more and also I realised I'd had several contractions in just a gew mins. Got dh up who kept trying to massage my back so set him off getting towels and the pool ready as I just wanted to pace around. He decided to time contractions which was amusing as he couldn't tell when one was starting (erm the bit where I start huffing dear) and kept missing them as he was doing the pool (asked me if one was the first I'd had since the last on he timed when it was about the 5th). Called MW, he started filling the pool, pacing wasn't working any more so I was bending over sofa with each one wishing the pool was ready. Told me pool was full, went through. MW arrived so examined me before I got in, I was already 8cm! First contraction in water amazing, felt so much easier. Then of course they just bloody hurt again as I lost my reference point grin Ordered dh to put more water in and keep it coming, I sat in the pool back to the edge rocking hips upwards with conractions. Wonderful MW just told me to follow the contractions and my body. Asked for gas to be set up as was feeling a bit out of depth but after a couple of contractions it got shoved out of the way as roaring was far more effective grin Waters went with a pop, bowls emptied blush and my body said push. Pushed and panted as felt right, again MW fab just kept reminding me to breathe back down each time, head appeared and paused just before the widest bit which was good as it meant I stretched slowly and didn't tear (but she was quite bruised around the eyes). So strange watching her come out, like suspended animation just watching the head slide out and gently turn then feeling each little bit of the body come out. MW lifted her towards me and I got to see what I'd had Cord very short so we got out quickly as it was uncomfortable keeping her above water. Went to the sofa and wrapped up, she latched on and fed, and fed, and fed. Cord cut when it stopped pulsating. Ds woke just before this so was snuggling dh as he cut it. Eventually delived placenta. Ds had some cereal then went back to bed and I had a shower then lay down with dd who kept feeding causing horrible afterpains!

Spent next couple of days having bad afterpains each time she fed, then having waves of pain when not feeding. Then shivering and sweating, blacking out for a few seconds at a time randomly and passing huge clots, but the MWs seemed to think it was just shock, the cramps were so bad because she fed lots and uterus was just contracting down quickly. Felt much better Christmas morning so hoped was over it but by afternoon started again. MW on boxing day took one look at me, realised how many jumpers I was wearing and that I couldn't have moved off the sofa if I'd tried and took my temp and called the hospital. Got there, sat around a lot (nice private rooms though), got seem by Dr who took swabs etc. Dh took ds home and left dd and I to stay overnight. Got started on wonderful painkillers (got to love it they bring you them whenever you press the button) and ABs. Woke in the morning feeling clear headed for first time since birth, they let me go home that evening after maintaining a stable temp. I have super strong ABs to take, dd has a low dose too to make sure she is ok.

DD totally different to her brother. Feeding a bit fussy now, think ABs affecting her, but genereally feeds every 3-4 hours for a good long feed. As a result seems to sleep more, be more put downable and have nicer awake times than ds did. She also seems to drop off around 9 for the night and not wake til 1 or so grin

Ds is ok, was giving her kisses today Has had a happier day. Still not very well and food still an issue but with me feeling better we are more on top of the house and getting back in to a bit of a routine which I think is def going to help him as he is a routine led boy despite my best efforts!

EffiePerine · 30/12/2008 18:57

Glad you're feeling better Indith - was it an infection?

JamInMyWellies · 30/12/2008 19:30

Indith you poor love what a time you have had but what a lovely birth story. I do think that No.2 is generally easier DS2 is much calmer than DS1.

Also congrats to Bisou, Hatty & majormoo.

Turnip good luck lovey.

Effie sending you some get going vibes.

How many more are left?

Met our HV today and amazingly she is lovely Didnt want to weigh DS2 as she said she didnt see the point he is quite clearly healthy and thriving. Also made an app to come back in 6wks and have a chat with me about how all is going etc, but do come and see us at clinic if you want also feel free to call at any time. So So so different to when we met our HV when DS1 was born.

EffiePerine · 30/12/2008 19:32

No signs AT ALL

humph

am thinking this baby will be way overdue and I'll end up being induced, which I hadn't expected at all. I suppose little about this pg has been the same as with DS but still...

Veggiemummy · 30/12/2008 20:58

I have been lurking all day and actually attempted a post earlier but somehow lost it.

Thanks for the updated list Bisou how is your new bundle?o hope it's not too hot there, my mum arrived with my monte carlos and kingstons and with a recipe for monte carlos hooray.

SL the reason I asked about whether they thought it was def distress is that I feel a little bad. When you posted that you had had some brown discharge and thought it might be the show I wondered if it might be meconium but thought I was over worrying and didn't want to alarm you. I think someone else had mentioned that this had happened to them and it sounded similar.

Kayz just dont tell your HV your mix feeding. And what a cheeky mare telling you your son how to sort out his 'tantrums' when she has only met him once. I tried putting on a vaguely interested face when our HV came around, DH told me I failed miserably. I have started putting ds2 down on his tummy for day time sleeps as he seems to prefer it. Won't be telling HV that.

Veggiemummy · 30/12/2008 21:10

MM great birth story sorry you got unwell afterwards. Was it an infection, had you been sick before the birth? Did you give birth in the pool. You made me tear a little about your ds. DS1 is loving having his nanna here, but between playing with her and DH I feel like I have no time with him and he doesn't seem that bothered by that. I had to convince him to have a bath with me tonight and read his bedtime story. I ran and big bath and both the ds's and I got in together but after only minute ds2 did a poo which ds1 did not find amusing. So we all got out. Then ds2 was hungry so I had to feed him while reading to ds1 which annoyed ds1 a little because I had trouble turning the pages. I guess we'll settle back into a routine eventually but I do miss our time alone together.

I'll do it and pinch JJ's idea if no-one objects

hatty congrats missus !! Lovely news, am so pleased she waited until after xmas .

majormoo my due date buddy, am so glad it all worked out so well for you in the end missus, birth story is fab . You also made me well up with DS1 story, bless him.

Veggie hope you are having a lovely time with your mum.

Looks like the growth spurt is over as DS now feeding less frequently - phew ! He was weighed yesterday and is now 8lb 7oz so has out on more than 2lb in 4 weeks !! Also he has made up for his lack of poo.... eek scary nappies !

I read the Baby Whisperer and found her advice useful, however in reality I have been led by DS and feed on demand (if BF I reckon this is vital during growth spurts to allow milk supply to get established - I have noticed it comes out quicker since DS had growth spurt and his feeds are shorter...). Also, after most feeds he sleeps so there is no way I can do activity with him and I refuse to poke him awake just to follow what the lady in the book , also that is my chance to rush off and do things like wash !!!

I have uploaded some xmas pics of the wee man
