Another DS here who comes out with 'oh bugger' on occasion . Glad to see it's considered pretty mild . He has also been known to mutter 'for fucks sake' which I am blaming on DH.

LadyT: classic MILisms, glad yo and DP can laugh at them. Think of it as another family bonding experience (as in you, DP and DD against the world)

Just finished my minimal Xmas shopping online - hope everyone likes what they given, if not TOUGH. Also ordered a book for DH for our anniversary, which is just after Xmas. Have a feeling we won't be doing much .

First 'proper' ML day tomorrow, DS at the CM and DH working so I get to put my feet up.

On the odd pg aches and pains front, I keep getting a sharp pain as if I've been kicked between the legs (nice) esp when I walk around. I'm assuming usual pelvic pain and baby being low - anyone else had this?

hotmama · 10/12/2008 21:27

Good evening ladies

I have been lurking and reading posts - been so busy as I only broke up from work on the 28th Nov and am having ds1 on Monday the 15th Dec.

Thankfully, I have now done the last of my Christmas shopping (more to the point I am too knackered to do anymore - dp will have to do the rest!)

Congrats to everyone who has given birth - it is lovely to be reading your birth stories!

I saw the anaesthetist (sp) on Monday and the consultant on Tuesday - so am all booked for next Monday - got to be at the hosp for 7.25 - they are doing me first (excepting any emergencies) because of my colourful birth histories!

DS1 is now actually transverse not even properly breech so is definitely no option in how he is being delivered! Strange to think that I will probably have had ds1 by 9am on Monday!

Not got much advice to give to all those having bf woes - just to say that Kellymom is a fab website, I found La Leche brilliant, lansinoh is worth the cost and that in the early days when nips were bleeding I found nipple shields great - the dd's had pink milk for a number of days! Also, Tiktok and the lovely ladies on the bf threads give good advice and always help.

LadyT - love your mil quotes - classic!

Now going to read the rest of the thread.

Hope everyone is O.K. and that any late ladies aren't too hacked off - I've been there twice so I know what's like!

Hotmama X

Hi all, gosh you have been busy today!!

Trace and Arti and anyone else who I have forgotten who are having on/off symptoms - good luck - I am sure it is all indications that things are about to happen!! Fingers crossed it is soon.

Been to the midwife today and said I reckon I'm going to be late (due week thursday and had no inklings at all yet) - she agreed goddam her!! Apparently now 1/5 engaged...and am suspicious she said that to make me feel better . I didn't realise but my midwife is the same midwife who delivered jumpjockeys baby!! jj she is very chuffed with the flowers you sent her.

Spent some of today making brownies for my friend who has gone in to be induced yesterday. Heard nothing as yet, so hope things are moving. The brownies have Green and Blacks chocolate in them, it was a terrible shame that there was a 2 for 1 offer on, so I had to try the Butterscotch too to check what it is like...mmmmmm... yummy. I ate half a bar ...naughty.

LadyT love the MILisms. And i think Octavia is a lovely name, you should indeed stick to your guns. My mum has openly admitted that she doesn't like the name we have chosen. Which annoyed me, and worried me at the same time as she is not normally so forceful so I think she must really hate it. but tough. She says she would go for a "normal" name as hers is weird, but I think it is quite normal. I have a really boring surname so a really normal name would make for a totally normal normal name!! Not that that really matters, since getting married my name is dead normal, and I quite like it apart from it's a pain for getting e-mail addresses.

I cannot believe the "When are you going to get your shape back?" quote though!!! How can anyone think that is a remotely acceptable thing to say! It makes my DHs classic of "You do know after you give birth you'll still be ginormous" sound tactful!!

Beans good luck with the BFing, sounds like you are doing well with the exception of the bleeding worry!! Can't offer any advice sorry, but it seems you have got lots already!

Have a good night all!!

katie3677 · 10/12/2008 23:31

Beans don't worry about the bleeding, I have had the same and lots of skin peelingoff my nipples, apparently it's not harmful to babies and have been using Lanisoh to help poor nips recover, which seems to be doing the job.

There is loads more I wanted to respond to, buthavingread through 6 pages, I've forgotten most of it.

Bisou thanks for the thought about chocolate and GD, but I've actually been given the all clear, as has DD, so bought myself a giant bar of galaxy today to celebrate. I'm not usually a chocolate fan, but craved Galaxy hugely as soon as I was told I wasn't allowed it. I used to do a bit of work for Hotel Cholcolat, fantastic stuff.

Things still going well for me, although am slightly concerned that DD is not eating enough. She had lost almost a lb when midwife came on Monday, but considering her birth weight this is apparently perfectly acceptable.MW next due on Sunday so will see how she's doing then.

Quick (and embarassing) question, how soon after a c-section can you get down and dirty (if you know what I mean). Please don't think that I am a raving nymphomaniac, it's just that I am feeling so well (unlike after DS's birth) that I was wondering if I might be up to it, but don't want to do myself any damage if it's not reccomended and keep forgetting to ask the midwife what the abstination period is.

Congrats on all the new births, I am struggling to keep up now, and hope everyone else is doing well....not long to go now (God, I hated people saying that to me!) x

traceface · 11/12/2008 00:08

well I went to bed at 8 to try to catch up on last nights appalling effort at sleeping, went to sleep and woke up at 9pm...so have been awake ever since with no sign of my brain switching off! Am getting lots of 'painful tightenings' again. but much more painful than last night, although still not really regular. Am determined not to obsess and be ringing MWs too early again, so have decided to get up and watch Eddie Izzard whilst having hot buttered toast and a lemon tea...
Have told DH I'll wake him if we get to 5 mins apart. But if that does happen and I have to go in, I'll need to take dd to someone's house, which is a bit of a faff, so I'd like to go in to labour mega style NOW or just behave and go back to bed!
Lady T your MIL comments are priceless...think you may be winning one of the sweepstakes!

Veggiemummy · 11/12/2008 00:34

hi trace I'm off to bed but I really hope this is it I hate the idea of losing another nights sleep for nothing. Is sex completely out of hbe question? It might help move it along if it I'd going in that direction.

OP posts:
Veggiemummy · 11/12/2008 00:36

I'm sorry that was meant to read 'you losing another nights sleep'

OP posts:
traceface · 11/12/2008 00:39

thanks veggie. DH is not up for sex!!!! Things have been a bit bloody since the sweep and he's scared! It's actually too sore for me too right now. Eddie Izzard is doing his best to distract me but it's getting more painful. eeek.
Hope you sleep well...

traceface · 11/12/2008 01:01

oooooooooooooowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww!

traceface · 11/12/2008 03:26

think this is it!!! Excruciating pain every 5 mins. So much more than yesterday. Am off to hospital. Think I might vomit. Sorry!
Will update you when I can (it'd better be with a baby this time!!!!)
xxx

Hello all

Sorry have been so rubbish at keeping up recently - don't know where the time goes...

Exciting about trace hope she's getting on ok.

BF a bit better - but still a bit sore. Am going to another clinic today - Beans this is the only thing I've really found to help - someone actually showing you how to get the baby on properly (and shortly after giving birth someone manhandling your boobs doesn't seem that intrusive). Love the picture of you and your family - your DH looks so happy.

Have also missed on congratulating modernlove alliebongo and snorris. Hurrah for you and your new babies.

Turnip/Lady T I love RR too - and think am looking forward to the film as big fan of the Winslet although it is such a favourite a little bit worried about whether I'll like how they've adapted. Actually had a slight craze for R Yates - Easter Parade is also fab - but not really suitable post baby reading. Am so soft hearted at the moment that I can't read or watch anything where anyone dies/is hurt/relationships go wrong and obviously nothing where anything might happen to any child (or someone who once was a child). Pretty limiting. DH going quietly mad although does mean we're watching a lot of cricket.

Sorry you've been feeling so ropey catdean - am sure babycat would be fine - there's no reason why he/she'd get your infection - but do look after yourself.

And love Lady T's MILisms. Mine has been surprisingly sane this time which is relief because she went absolutely barking last (was first grandchild).

kayzisexpecting · 11/12/2008 08:53

Morning,

I'm so excited about Trace!! Hope everything is going ok.

Veggie What happened last night? Gallas really needs to buck his ideas up and stop making mistakes. But yes Diaby is rather scrumptious.

I had the wierdest dream last night.

I dreamt I had the baby and he was 'normal' in our world. But he wasn't normal. He had FEET!!! Everyone else had wheels instead of feet, MIL accused me of sleeping with an alien. So we went on the Sir Cliff Richard show for a DNA test and he was DH's and DH carries a recessive gene for feet instead of wheels.

It was mad, don't know where it came from at all.

I think I am leaking fluid, I'm having to wear pads for the first time since Febuary. Do you think I should mention it to MW when I see her this morning?

Hope everyone is ok this morning, and didn't dream wierd dreams too.

OrangeCrush · 11/12/2008 09:14

Bisou - I know I'm not on the list, but only really been able to log on regularly since I gave up work. Didn't realise how addictive reading about all you lovely ladies would be!

Anyway, the vital statistics for the list are: DC#1 (boy) Due 7/12 (bit imaterial now )- Calderdale Royal, Halifax.

Trace got my fingers crossed for you.

LT Love reading your MILisms. My own MIL is very quietly excited and supportive and would never say such outrageous things even if she secretly thought them (which I doubt). Which is direct contrast to my own mother who has an 'open mouth think later' policy. Except I'm not sure she even gets round to the thinking part

I am dreading her coming round taking over to help after the birth - have already had to tell her she will not be able to stay at the house, which feels really mean, but I know I will only be able to cope with her in small doses esp if I am tired, crabby and emotional after the birth.... might say something I regret

Nolda · 11/12/2008 09:18

Good luck Trace.

Definitely mention the leaking Kayz. Maybe it's not fluid but it's better to be on the safe side.

Well I'm still here. I was so sure that I would be off to hospital in the night. When I had my sweep yesterday afternoon the MW said I was already 3 cm dilated and the cervix was soft. I had some mild contractions afterwards which got stronger in the evening but everything then fizzled out. Will have to wash the kitchen floor today now!

kayzisexpecting · 11/12/2008 09:24

We should have a group floor scrubbing today. We could say it is research.

OrangeCrush · 11/12/2008 09:30

My floor could do with a clean too.

Can anyone tell me what clary sage oil is supposed to do... saw some in Boots yesterday while I was stocking up on disposable pants but read that not for use in pregnancy - do I ignore that bit?

kayzisexpecting · 11/12/2008 09:37

I'm not 100% sure. I've read it can help your body to prepare for labour and I also read that it can bring on labour. It hasn't brought on labour for me.

Verso · 11/12/2008 09:38

Best of luck to trace - and here's hoping your contractions come back today, nolda! ladyt your MILisms are priceless! Like catdean though it's more likely to be my mum that comes out with similar (btw - cute DD1 moment for you - my DD1 has started sounding just like Lola from Charlie and Lola. Yesterday she told me that "actually, they really actually are quite similar..." I can't remember the context but loved the turn of phrase )

catdean my Mum and I have always had a difficult relationship. Long story but she idolised my older sister (5.5 yrs older than me) and I was always much closer to my Dad. Sadly, by 1988 there was only me and her and it's not been easy. After I had DD1 I hoped things would improve but she's very self-centred so not so much (eg. when I was being readmitted to hospital in the middle of the night with complications via A&E she asked one of the triage nurses if they could write her a letter to give to her travel agent so she wouldn't lose the money if (IF!) she had to cancel ). However she's now fantastic with DD1 and has been giving a lot less 'helpful' advice with DD2 so I guess she has some grudging respect for me these days.

(Part of the reason I wanted that promotion - remember that?!) was that rather sadly I thought she'd finally be proud of me!!)

Am 38 and quite clearly a nutter.

Odd night here - DD2 fed 10.30, 3.30 then wouldn't sleep til 5.30 then woke at 8.30. Was starting to panic that she hates the moses basket at one point... but was ok in the end.

Must get some of this G&B butterscotch you all rave about. I love the maya gold - someone mentioned it yesterday. Has anyone had the gingerbread one? Any good?

Olipop · 11/12/2008 10:07

Morning ladies...Trace hope all going swimmingly!!!!

Beans What a lovely photo! Nothing much to add on the bleeding nips thing except to say that I had it too and DS used to chuck up pink milk all the time. It did pass eventually but I think it is correct to say that you should keep feeding through it to prevent infections.

On sweary kids, my DS used to say cck for clock and he also used to call watches clocks. Cue crowded shop and DS pointing to DH watch shouting 'daddys got a big cck'!!!!!!!!!! It's the explaining that you get yourself into afterwards that is more mortifying than the actual statement!!!

LT - we give up...you win on the MIL quotes!!!! Invite her round again, we need some more!

Now...................drum roll please.....................had a call from the midwife and I am immune................ . So full steam ahead on the homebirth hopefully! Means I can stop doing the 'stay in baby' vibes and start wishing it out again!!! Although I still have 16 days till due date!

Nolda · 11/12/2008 10:11

Super news Olipop, so pleased for you.

Verso haven't tried the gingerbread G&B but really like the cherry one and would heartily recommend.

Veggiemummy · 11/12/2008 10:17

hooray Oli that's great news.

Also hoping Trace is actually having contractions sounded hopeful.

Catdean my mum drives me mental and while she has mellowed a bit (she also has a speak first think later policy) we still can't spend a huge amount of time with each other. Having DS has made some aspects of our relationship better but she bitches to my siblings about how I bring him up which drives them and me mad!

Verso that is so cute of your DD1, I think my ds has a little crush on Lola.
