kayzisexpecting · 10/12/2008 18:32

Thanks for the new thread Veggie

I will have given birth by the time this one is full. I am determined!!!

When MW rand she did say she might see me tonight. My brother says it'll all happen at 10 past 8 tonight so I have to miss the football.

Veggiemummy · 10/12/2008 18:33

Beans don't worry you are doing fine. 1st of all good on you for calling someone but i would get yourself a different number, someone posted a load of good numbers for verso on here. Also tomorrow find your nearest health center that has a breastfeeding support person and get them to check her latch, it needs to take in a lot of the boob not just nipple. they are cheeky little buggers and i think get a bit lazy when they are sleepy so such a bit too much on the nips rather than on whole boob. You are doing well though. Get going with some lying down skin to skin time getting her near you nipples and opening up that gob. You are doing a smashing job though. the blood could also be a little bit of hormone involvement too.

kayzisexpecting · 10/12/2008 18:40

Beans Here are some numbers

LLL - 08451202918
Breastfeeding Helpline - 08442090920
NCT - 03003300771

Hope they help.

I stumbled onto this website today and it looks fab!!! I'm going to treat myself but I just don't know what to get.

reban · 10/12/2008 18:46

abbey re your breathlessness - when i had a chect infection a few weeks ago my GP was most concerned with the pain/ restricted feeling in my chest above everything else. She did a very thorough check over of me although i cant quite remember now what it was she was particularly looking for but i think it was possibly to do with blood clots. Dont want to alarm you i just remember being very shocked at how concerned she was as i just expected her to say the restricted breathing was a mix of baby and chest infection. Anyway i would say get it checked out because really at this stage you can never be too safe xx

Turniphead1 · 10/12/2008 19:10

I don't think I will go on this one alas!

Jeez - Kate Winslett is on the One Show and looks amazing...Really looking forward to Revolutionary Road. Loved the book so much.

Can someone come round and cook me my tea. Thanks in advance...

Beans meant to say - the photo of the three of you is fab!

Veggiemummy · 10/12/2008 19:12

don't worry Kayz they are only fielding the kids tonight so and anyway you are having it at home so can watch during early contractions.

OP posts:
kayzisexpecting · 10/12/2008 19:27

I know Veggie. I could watch it while having contractions. It is great.

DS keeps saying "f*ck" instead of fork. He shouts it out very loudly. I'm dreading him doing it in public.

artichokes · 10/12/2008 19:30

Lol Kayz. When DD was younger she used to call my friend's baby "Fck instead of "Frank". It was th baby we saw most of so then when she saw other babies in prams in the park she would shout "Look, its F*ck". I was sooooo embarrassed and spent hours loudly saying "She has a little friend called Frank but mispronounces it, your baby looks like Frank, that is all she means, anyway better go..."

kayzisexpecting · 10/12/2008 19:34

He alreadys "c*ck" instead of clock, which he does shout out in public.
I have to keep explaining to people that he isn't swearing.

Turniphead1 · 10/12/2008 19:37

Arti and Kayz lol...

I am ashamed to say that when my DD was 2.5 she went through a phase of saying "for fcks sake in a very loud, but world-weary way. In church and all sorts of inappropriate places. Dh and I were mortified. Me in particular, because it IS something I say when very stressed in the car...Oh, that she was saying something as nice as Frank or Fork. Luckily it stopped abruptly and we never hear any swearing anymore from either and Mummy has learned to keep her mouth clean...

reban · 10/12/2008 19:46

lol turnip we went through the "for f*cks sake" stage with dd1, luckily mommy has got slightly better with age and now ds2 can be found occasionally saying "bugger" surely thats an improvement!

kayzisexpecting · 10/12/2008 19:50

Lol, DS says "Bugger Bugger" for Makka Pakka from In The Night Garden. MIL had a go at me for it.

Verso · 10/12/2008 19:54

lol @ turnip. DD1 once mortified me when she was about 18 months by dropping something and saying "bugger" within my mother's earshot. She was not impressed!

Beans I see everyone's got there first with good sound BF advice and phone numbers. My only other advice would be to not speak to too many people about it as they will all give you different advice and your head will be spinning. Make sure you speak to someone who is a BF specialist as well. Sounds to me like a latch problem - I should know! I had scabs for a day or so but they have pretty much completely healed up now that we have the latch sorted.

Got myself a well-fitting bra from R&P today. Not exactly glamorous (they only seem to do one kind of nursing bra but so comfortable to have one that fits properly, and I can use the measurement to get pretty ones from somewhere else!

Exciting to think this is the thread where most of the babies will appear. Good luck, everyone!

I've been very weepy this afternoon but am keeping self sane with Mumsnet, NCT friends with small babies who feel EXACTLY the same, and chocolate (not necessarily in that order). I feel bad complaining as DD2 is so much easier than DD1 ever was - but I am still soooooooooooooo tired. This too will pass! This too will pass! >mad wild-eyed harridan emoticon

Veggiemummy · 10/12/2008 19:59

turnip I saw the previews for revolutionary road the other day looks quite stessful but good.

DS went through a stage of singing the big cook little cook song out in public cos he loved the show but he would sing 'big cock little cock welcome to our cafe'

Beans I keep meaning to say I love you birth photo you are a lovely family now. Does it feel nice to look at pictures of your family. Oh I'm getting all teary again.

LadyThompson · 10/12/2008 20:01

Turnip, I also loved Revolutionary Road (downbeat though. Mind you, it's positively cheerful in comparison to his others. Do you like John Updike as well? He is my fave but at the same time, every other book is very disappointing). And yes, old Winslet did look absolutely gorgeous.

Laughing at the Tourette's babies and Beans, that pic of the three of you is so nice.

Right, this is part vent and part for your amusement. I didn't want to see the MiL and her new husband today. I was in the shower when they arrived and was almost hiccuping with annoyance whilst I was in there as I just didn't feel like gritting my teeth all day (she said DP had been 'vile' to her last week and that he spoke to her as if she was 'a dog turd' - not true. She also phoned me up when I was in hospital to slag DP off, which I think is bad form). They said they would never speak to DP again so I phoned up his sister in Bermuda and said that if she didn't tell them to shape up, I would. Which she did. So all in all, quite a precarious peace now prevails.

Gem 1. MiL: "I would have brought you some flowers but this place is so cluttered, I didn't think you'd have room for them." Right. Thanks so much.
Gem 2. MiL: "She doesn't look like either of you...She's beautiful" (in fairness I don't think she actually meant this to sound how it sounded).
Gem 3. MiL's husband: "When will you get your shape back?" (I was too shocked to respond to this at the time. It upset me all afternoon but but the time I told DP, who was out of the room at the time, we were killing ourselves laughing. But really...
Gem 4. MiL's husband: "Does it burp?" It? IT? My beautiful daughter?
Gem 5. "And what does you mother think of her name?" - in a tone which leaves me in no doubt as to what MiL thinks of it. Given that she suggested we call her a name which I wouldn't bestow on so much as a bedbug, I don't feel inclined to change DD's name. We love it and that's all that matters.
Gem 6. "These teats have holes which are too small. No wonder she can't feed properly." We explained that they are teats which are specially designed to help with the development of her mouth, muscles and palate. "Yes son, but there's a difference between exercising her mouth and fighting for her food."
Piece de Resistance: we are out for lunch. I am feeding DD and she has had plenty and has closed her mouth firmly as she has had enough. MiL leans across, shoves her FINGER into DD's mouth, jerks open her chin and tried to shove the bottle back in. "GET YOUR WITCHY FINGER OUT OF MY BABY'S MOUTH!" - was what I did not say. But wanted to. "She means well," is all DP will say, which is undoubtedly true (she had been blubbing with joy over DD earlier in the day) but truly, it's difficult. My own Mum is fabulous and hugely tactful and I am not really used to all this nonsense. Having only been with DO for 18 months I have only met her a handful of times. Hennyway, there you go. Bloody in laws. Hope you are all super well. This thread's had more sweeps than Mary Poppins xxxxx

Turniphead1 · 10/12/2008 20:07

verso that is such good advice about choosing to take just ONE trusted (and pref qualified) person's advice on breastfeeding. There are so many ways to do it that your head will spin with lots of people telling you different things.

And hugs to you. You are allowed to be sad/weepy/irritated etc even if DD2 is sleeping better than DD1 etc. It's still really hard. You are still only a short period post-partum. I found deep breaths and Bach's rescue remedy help during my 2 week have a cry a day period...

My only other TOP TIP on b'fing is with the Lansinoh nipple cream - defo the best - but you only need to use a TINY amount (size of your nail on your pinkie). I was lathering it on, which doesn't help at all (and is also expensive as the stuff ain't cheap)

reban SOOO glad mine wasn't the only child to be saying that. Bugger is fine by comparison, eh.

Wish my DH would get back with the Thai Green curry. Hungry....

artichokes · 10/12/2008 20:12

Holy Sh*t - I just tried to eat a Jalfreezi. Good God that was an uncomfortable experience.

I only managed three fork fulls. I wonder if that will be enough?

Veggiemummy · 10/12/2008 20:22

ladyT did you serve tea in the slut mug. Your DPs mum and hubby are hilarious. Can they hear themselves. That comment about you getting into shape was a bit yukky though I think that would make me cry. Andthe teat, does she want to drown the poor child. And trying to yank her poor little mouth open, well clearly we can't have the child showing any sort of free will like say, being full up and not wanting to eat anymore.

OP posts:
JamInMyWellies · 10/12/2008 20:25

LadyT bloody MIL I could give you a list as long as my arm with what mine has said but she has no idea how upsetting it is. But then my own mother has her gems too for example 12hours after giving birth to Archie blimey your tummy hasnt gone down much you are still quite fat!!

Beans my lovely do you have a sure start or childrens center in your area they normally do breasfeeding cafes where you can go along and chat to a LLL or NCT BF councellor. Dont stop feeding off that nipple otherwise mastitis will arrive if you cant face feeding try expressing.

Love the swearing children Lord knows what Archie will come out with when he starts talking properly he already has a very impressive ochh Noooo.

Am having soime quite intensive crotch zinger pains this evening dont think they are contractions but they bloody hurt. If it is contractins and they continue like this I know I am going to be begging DP to take me to the proper hospital rather than the birthing center.

Veggiemummy · 10/12/2008 20:25

oh and LadyT again she has a beautiful name, my DH thinks it a strong but feminine name.

OP posts:
LadyThompson · 10/12/2008 20:35

Oh, thanks Veggie and Mr Veggie. My own name is very dull so it's been really nice to give her something more interesting. So bum to all the naysayers

Arti, I'll finish your Jalfrezi...

reban · 10/12/2008 20:38

i agree veggie Octavia is a beautiful name, so glad you are not lettind silly people turn you against it LT

When we decided to name ds1 Gabriel my dad was really anti it, but after a VERY stern look from me he quickly withdrew his - thats a girls name - comment. Still expecting some funny comments about the names we have chosen this time round though

artichokes · 10/12/2008 20:38

Your would be welcome to it LadyT, but DH just troffed it down along with his own order...

I also think O has a lovely name. I would like to go with something unusual for DD2 but DD1 has a very simple name so I think an unusual name would pair oddly.

Veggiemummy · 10/12/2008 20:44

Arti my 2 brothers and sister have about the most common names available but I was named an unusual name. Never bothers them or me.

OP posts:
Nolda · 10/12/2008 20:46

Trace sorry to hear things aren't moving along as quickly as you would like.

I had my sweep this afternoon as midwife wanted to rearrange. I'm not saying too much as I don't want to jinx it but hopefully something is happening.

On the children swearing front, my DD is looking forward to Father P*ssmas coming soon!
