Hi everyone

There's still some space in the old thread - Waddling Zombies and Dancing Babies so no need to start posting yet. Just thought I would get it set up before I go home tonight ready for all you insommiacs!

OP posts:

Good luck Mini - hope everything goes well.

Egg · 08/01/2008 17:33

Oh mini, have probably missed you but GOOD LUCK! Can't wait to hear the news that they are out and you are safely back with a shrinking uterus (mine was 39cm yesterday so nearly 20cm smaller ).

Beany don't be silly did not take offence, I would NEVER have dreamed of using wipes last time (DH bought some when we were in hospital and was so chuffed saying "these are suitable from birth" and I said "I am not letting those get anywhere NEAR my pfb") but just figure I will use them this time if I have to. Hope not to have to, much anyway....

tyaca · 08/01/2008 17:54

gl gl mini ... crossing fingers and toes.

is it a bit dark that i think of your little ones (and all of our little ones) as part of "our" collective brood??

Egg · 08/01/2008 17:58

Nope i feel almost as though I am their "auntie" or something .

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh it is happening so soon! How very exciting.

rozzyraspberry · 08/01/2008 18:18

Hi everyone.

Only have time for a quick post - it's taken me so long to catch up with all your posts - it's obvious some of you are now on mat leave and have more time to post . Am very jealous - sat at work today feeling sick because lo was lodged under my ribs - roll on next Thursday!

Very exciting news about mini - hopefully see some piccies soon so I can get even more excited!

Talking of meconium poos I saw a tip somewhere (probably on here actually) which said to put vaseline on baby's bum before putting first nappy on which made the meconium easier to get off. Do you think vaselines ok to put on their bums?

For those of you expecting your second I just wanted to say that I found the newborn stage much easier second time round. I was just so much more relaxed and comfortable handling a newborn. I also found bf much easier (Stopped after 2 weeks with ds1 because of really painful nips). Was just easier from the start with latching on etc and I think a lot of that was due to having more confidence with a baby. Will see how things go this time.

Have a good night everyone.

trish12 · 08/01/2008 18:26

Thanx for the welcome guys , spoke to the midwife ealier and she said its normal. I was only 8st pre-pregnancy and have a very tight neat bump, been told i have good stomach muscles, heres hoping they ping bk into place afterwards.!!!

Jambuttie · 08/01/2008 18:59

I too will keep you posted on Mini's progress as I am a birth partner

Can't wait to meet Jack n Abby

manamana · 08/01/2008 19:21

Jambuttie - how exciting!!!

sarah - thanks for night terrors reminder, he had them quite a whle ago and i read up lots of other threads but hadn't occurred to me this time, last time it was when he was overtired whch fits with being back at nursery. Fngers crossed for a quiet night tonight.

lljkk · 08/01/2008 19:30

Good luck to Mini... and everyone else expecting doubles. I tremble with awe at your feet!
I had appt. w/ MW today, fundal height came up short (32 when it should be 36). So I'm off to a growth scan next week (yuck). Probably all is fine, but still a slight worry and a big nuisance/hassle as I have had to scramble like mad to get childcare arranged for all the existing DC -- hours of waiting around in hospital with 3 little firecrackers=no fun. Especially if there is any bad news to discover.

I haven't washed anything, used or new. And we use bio powder! I read it's a big myth about bio powder causing skin reactions. I don't know if it is a myth, but this will be our experiment to find out.

Besides I dislike the smell of most washing powders (including the Lidl brand I bought last time not realising it would be a stinky, one), so better to stick with old clothes smell instead, while I can.

princessllama · 08/01/2008 20:30

good luck mini.
trish, hello. i too was told pain was nothing serious, but was a muscle spasm from holding dd on right hip .
i was going to use the uber nothing in them baby wipes for new baby but now starting to feel a bit guilty.
just back from pg yoga, nearly got the giggles as teacher made us all make umming noises to vibrate different parts...

CountTo10 · 08/01/2008 22:06

Blimey, I don;t know where to start!!!

Mini - hope you're ok and look forward to hearing any news over the next couple of days

subject of babywipes - I've got some packed in my bag because cotton wool and water were useless and even the midwife started tutting at one point in the hospital and got my sensitive wipes out of the bounty bag I got and used them!!!

First time around people - follow your instincts, you get so much conflicting advice but you'll find quite quickly that you'll know best and just because you haven't been a parent before, doesn't mean that you don't know what's best for your child. Bf will either work or it won't. I felt so guilty about not struggling with it and it really made the first few mths hard. I found the whole thing overwhelming and just wish I hadn't put so much pressure on myself. Above all else??? Enjoy it because it flies by so quickly!!! And soon they're 3 telling you 'whatever' and demanding scooby doo or treats

Weird pains - I've had a pain on my lower right abdomen which I'm convinced is a misplaced elbow as it's very dependant on the positioning of my bump. Think bubs is trying to burrow down as I've had a lot of those electric shock, scrape me off the ceiling type pains!! At this last knocking stage you've got to remember they have very little time to move and so when they do you really feel it.

Went to midwife today who found + glucose in my urine and went into shock.....until I explained it was about the 5th time it had happened and she'd never seemed bothered about it before!!! Now she's gone all serious on me and given me dietry guidance and said I may have to have glucose testing - at 37 wks for heaven sake!!!! At least baby is still head down and appears to have turned although I will be doing the on all fours thing. Our living room is currently full of moses baskets, seats, baby baths and god knows what else so will be a busy week of washing, painting and carpet laying!! Dp has gone into meltdown convinced it's gonna happen any minute and won't let me do a thing!!! Which is sweet.....but can be a little annoying!!! I am still capable of some things!!! Bless him he does make me laugh!!!

Anyway, hope everyone is fine and I guess there will be more hatching news as the next couple of weeks go by......exciting!!!!

bluedomino · 08/01/2008 22:40

Eeek I haven't got a car seat yet or a double pram. I'm panicking again tonight.

Hospital bag - pack tissues, I cried buckets for no reason for days and days. Wet toilet wipes were very useful too. Tesco maternity pads were the best pads, they stayed in place and were big. Boiled sweets - I had a really sore throat after the entonox and anesthetic. I was mortified that my paper knickers (pretty spotted ones from JoJO) wouldn't go over my thighs, so try them on, again I found Tesco ones better but only used them for 3 days.

On the subject of breastfeeding - I found the disposable nipple pads really itchy and ended up using washable ones, they were much gentler on very tender nips and you can plaster them in nipple cream.

Good luck mini, its all starting to get a bit real now isn't it?

ayrshirelolo · 08/01/2008 22:46

Just popped in to say hi, taken me half an hour to read through, my my, what a chatty lot!! Good luck to mini, hope it's all easy, quick and relatively pain free and look forward to hearing about the safe arrival of the twins soon! lolo x

Will have to look up some of the January ones too for those of us going early.

Well, have been awake since 3.30 (boo) but thought I would come on here to say... go mini, go mini, go mini!!!

sarahmikeandharry · 09/01/2008 07:29

Morning ladies-

Bean sprout- hope you get some sleep during the day!!!!

I had a relatively good nights sleep last night, DS woke us us at 3 am coz he was dreaming!!!! but other than that ok-

Off to see consultant today to discuss homebirth - apparently midwife prefers to have their go ahead - but i dont need it, the decision is mine!!!! i have totally normal preg- but am over receomended bmi- and thats not enough to prevent an HB!!

Will let you all klnow how i get on-

Good luck Mini- eagerly awaiting news of your lo's!!!!

ExpectingKat · 09/01/2008 08:18

Hi everyone,
Gud luck to mini hope everything goes really well.
Are they the second set of feb twins to be arriving so far or am I mixed up?
Glad people are starting to feel a bit better.
I was up half the nite with DS as decided no medicine as his cough seemed much better, but didn't work bless him. Still finding it hard to believe he's goin to be one on friday. It seemed so weird gettin the twins bits all sorted out and washed, it only felt like 5mins ago I was doing it for him lol
Well i hope everyone has a good day take care

Egg · 09/01/2008 08:29

Morning all. Had a decent sleep again last night. No idea what is going on! I think it is because i feel "ready" now so not worrying too much. Did think it was happening (again) last night, had a painful-ish contraction about 9:30pm but then nothing.

Beany - just wanted to say I was looking at active convos on my phone before I went to sleep last night and saw your thread about your DS and the docs. Can't believe a couple of the comments, you did the right thing, you couldn't leave DS home alone and as far as I am concerned did not put anyone at risk (and certainly not intentionally). Was glad to see that the majority of people backed you up. Hope you are ok...

Egg · 09/01/2008 08:30

Kat - yes Ladlemonke already had her twin girls before Christmas. They were very early (29 weeks I think) but are doing well and gaining weight .

caramelchewchew · 09/01/2008 10:06

Looking forward to hearing your news mini! How exciting - hope all going well.

Have given up trying to catch up after my 2 and a half week holiday as you're all so chatty! Hope everyone is doing ok.

Had a lovely holiday in the sunshine and the flights were fine (12 hours so was a bit worried). Definitely did my best whale impression though in my tankini on the beach with lots of odd looks!! Oh well. But very relaxed and chilled out which is fab.

Funnily enough also sleeping better (prob because more relaxed) although LO seems to like stretching into a particular spot on my tum (apparently its an elbow) that is becoming really sore.

Cot etc all arriving this weekend and so need to crack on with the nursery and moving bits of furniture around! All very exciting.

Still got another 3 and a bit weeks left at work so quite jealous of all of you who are now on leave. My work are being great though and letting me work one day from home a week so its not too bad and I'm the sort of person who would prob get very bored being at home all day long!

Got a consultant appointment this afternoon which should all be fine (saw a doc on monday before I flew back to check I was ok for flying long haul). Last set of blood tests for me - hurrah! I'm such a woos!!

morningglory · 09/01/2008 10:19

Good Morning Ladies!

Virtual good luck to Minime. Fingers crossed that all goes smoothly for her and her LOs.

DS started back at nursery yesterday. It's amazing how having just 3 hours free makes me feel more calm. Guess I should savour the feeling because I'm not going to feel that again for several years!

Baby is either punching my cervix, or break dancing on it. Either way, it's a really strange/painful feeling, and making me panic about when this one pops out. Hopefully, he'll stay put until 38 weeks.

Hope everyone has a good day.

leesmum · 09/01/2008 10:22

Any news off mini yet?

Its really exciting to think that by the end of the day jack and abby will be here

How's everyone else doing? i spent yesterday afternoon on all fours playing with ds and his train set, and ended up in agony later on, it felt like contractions but there wasn't any pattern to it. I am really trying to get this baby round the right way but i think it might all be in vain. i'm back at mw on fri so i'll see what she says about it.

Did anyone else have bizzare weather last night?? we had huge hailstone and then thunder and lightning at about 8.30 v. strange for this time of year.

Have a lovely day everyone x

MERLYPUSS · 09/01/2008 10:52

Morning peeps. Twinnies were doing the velcro fly thing last night. Using my insides as a bouncy castle. OH was most alarmed at the violent kicks and punches.
I am going to take wipes into hosp thought I could always use them for me to freshen up (like deo wipes) if nothing else. Also heard the vaseline is good for shifting meconium so will take that too as it can double up as lip balm for me.
Re Braxton Hicks. I don't get much in the pain dept but belly does go very hard from time to time. Is that them do you think? Anyway, off to make banana loaf. Seeya.

gingermumi · 09/01/2008 11:00

Hi ladies and welome to newbies.

am trying to catch up but before i do and before i give all gory details (which will take ages) we have a new hatchling!

OMG I'VE HAD A BABY (my first ever post was OMG I'm pregnent!)

Toby Robert born 4th Jan 3.25 am by emergency c-sect.

Will read rest of posts i've missed and tell you all about it in a bit.

OMG OMG OMG!!!!!!!!!!

Lucyand2 · 09/01/2008 11:29

Gingermumi - Congratulations!!!! Love the name!

Egg - I took babywipes for DD as I had no idea they could be bad. This time I'm taking my own homemade wipes stuff as they get the poo off soooo much better. Some wipes might sneak in there this time just in case!

PK - I daren't kick the toys without shoes on. Luckily DD went for a nap before the sweep arrived so I got a quick toy flinging session in! So glad I've got 2 boxes for flinging it all in!

Ruva - I washed all my baby clothes as I was worried about chemicals although I have sensitive skin so have to worry about all these daft things like bio washing powder, softener, etc

Widget - I have beige carpets and I hate them so much, they stain so easily that cleaning them seems almost pointless. When I'm in my own house I will be avoiding this colour at all costs

Jo - I've gone from 9 and a half to just over 11, my heaviest yet and I've still got 4 weeks to go (I blame the choc)

Mini - Any news?

I'm suffering from pains in my bum at the moment as bubs is so low down, feels like she's headbutting my, erm, back passage. My groin muscles are also twanging when I walk! That said I had a huge burst of energy yesterday and proceeded to completely rearrange the back bedroom, carry some shelves up the stairs and start rearranging the front room. I even cleaned the tiles in our bathroom before cooking tea.
I think I'm paying the price today though as my shoulder is aching, I'm still going to do some baking later as I'm trying to get more iron into DD and me (shoving dried apricots in flapjacks should hide them enough!)
I've also been too hot to sleep which is odd condsidering the temp outside
