Hi everyone

There's still some space in the old thread - Waddling Zombies and Dancing Babies so no need to start posting yet. Just thought I would get it set up before I go home tonight ready for all you insommiacs!

Ginger - I was thinking about you the other day and wondered how you were. Congratulations, what fantastic news!! Hope you're all well and look forward to lots more piccies!!

mymissus - I used nursing bras from Asda, they were really comfortable - mothercare are quite good too.

pobletsmum · 10/01/2008 09:04

Morning everyone!

I'm determined to be more positive today, because I can feel myself sinking lower and lower. Being at home all day just doesn't work for me(!). I plan to hobble to the car (fortunately an automatic that only requires my right, unaffected foot) to take DS to toddler group, in the hope that I can just sit at the side & chat to my friends while he amuses himself & burns off some energy .That's the plan anyway...

Baby wipes...hmm...I started well with DS, using cotton wool and water, but on about day 3, the (wonderful) midwife was visiting & needed to weigh DS. She offered to change his dirty nappy & insisted we use wipes. I have to be honest that I was very relieved to have her 'permission' cos I'd been tempted anyway. I know the benefits of using just water, so will start that way with this baby but will be prepared to change my mind. I have baby wipes on my hospital bag list, but only because I will use them as face/body wipes for myself to freshen up. Much cheaper than proper face & deo-type wipes but still very gentle. Plus I have them in the house so might as well use them.

manamana - hope examination goes well. I had a few exams last time and ended up with 2 or 3 different creams for piles, but none really helped. They got worse at the time of DS' birth, but then improved quite quickly afterwards. I think it's mainly a time thing really (once the baby is born). I have had similar problems this time but haven't bothered seeing GP. Plan to just grin & bear it till baby is out. Haven't tried femegel packs though - thanks for the suggestion lolo!

pobletsmum · 10/01/2008 09:13

Nursing bras... I found Emma Jane ones most comfy, available in Boots, John Lewis, Blooming Marvellous etc. I'd say better to avoid the zip ones (ouch) and poppers (faff). Wait as late as you dare to get fitted, ideally no more than 2 weeks prior to due date. I would suggest getting properly fitted if you can - they know how much extra room to allow for when your milk comes in and your boobs grow. I bought 3 before DS was born - 2 crop top style which were great for hospital & later for night times, and one Emma Jane, then waited to buy more after baby was born. That worked really well for me as my boobs grew to be ENORMOUS and I actually ended up with the next size up in Emma Jane one - easily available online eg figleaves.com come next day, once you know size you need. The crop top ones were so comfy & stretchy they were still a good fit, so I was glad to have them. Sorry just looked back and this is a very long reply to a simple question!

Morning all. Ginger, glad there was a good outcome in the end and that you are both doing well, sounds like they really put you through it. Thanks for sharing your story.

Had a hospital appointment yesterday and they were a bit worried babies heartbeat was borderline too low (was c.110) so landed up on a monitor for half an hour to check. All fine in the end, picked up to average 130, but freaked me out a little so no idea how the rest of you are coping who have had more serious issues. Amazing how much the babies heart rate responds - I had two slight braxton hicks (I think) during the monitoring time and the babies heart rate shot up to 170 each time. Slightly concerns me how it will cope in labour but was told it was pretty normal.

Am shattered today - only 3 more weeks left at work, roll on February!
Have a good day everyone.

widgetsmummy · 10/01/2008 11:00

Ginger - thanks for sharing so much. am feeling quite inspired and will defo talk to DH about sticking to our guns if we feel something isn't right.

I'm having a mental block about packing my hospital bag - can't quite bring myself to do it for some reason... makes it all too real??? got a list but some of its definately the need to shop for the things I'm missing, no energy. feel teary thinking about it - what a mess! maybe Hosp tour on Sat will inspire me??

thanks for the info on nursing bras, was wondering how to guess what size I'll need. so far haven't ballooned too much, only one cup size, will be interesting to see what happens!

Gill79 · 10/01/2008 11:11

Thanks so much for sharing your story Ginger - congratulations!!!! but what a nightmare. Poor you - it all sounds really scary and unpleasant. Hopefully it will all be forgotten as you enjoy your lovely little boy

Have been having loads of twinges low down in the bump and lots of tightenings, enough to make me stop and gasp, but head still not engaged and definitely feels like he's not going anywhere for a long time....

I take it from the conversation that baby wipes are BAD? Does it give them a sore bottom? Have a feeling that some might make it into my hospital bag just in case - like disposable nappies, want to make things as easy as possible to start with while I get used to doing things!

WooOOHOOOoohOoOO!!!

Many many congrats gingermumi, and welcome over to the hatched list!

What a handsome lad you have, and a good healthy weight too. I hope the run-up to the birth hasn't traumatised you, wee Toby or your family too much.
Just reading about the inconsistency of so-called informed medical opinion has me fizzin!! I would like to come an thump that fookin eejit on your behalf....wtf would HE know....gggr. (I'm not really violent, just feel protective to vulnerable mummies with numpties making decisions for them).

S'true to say, you really got to listen to your intinct. The girls have been in NNU 5 weeks now, and although the most fantastic medical staff are caring for them (bar one rude biatch who had me in floods of weepingness) , there is a lot of personal opinion that shapes the advice you get. I now ask the same question of 5 different nurses/doctors, consider the most frequent/popular answer, then make up my own mind. I may be a first timer, and have had a bit of an unconventional start to it, but i know when i dont agree with something.

I think thats the ranting over with...?

Anyhoo, had first cuddle with Leo a coupla days ago, and she was just so relaxed with it!! Their personalities are starting to show, and their reputations preceed them. Even nurses who aren't lookin after them comment on their abilities to projectile sh*t out the far end of the incubator. One teddy had to be removed as it had poo dripping off its nose! These are very determined and feisty young ladies!!!

Have to officially and formally register births tomorrow, which means we have to actually decide what to call them. We've had 2 extensions already , and i aint asking for another. I thoroughly reccommend nagging your self/dp's/dh's/oh's to get a short list together, cos 3 weeks pass by awfy quick!

Howareya mini? Me fingers are crossed for you xxxx

egg thank-you for offering teeny clothes, i really appreciate it. You really are a very sweet soul, it comes across in your posts. Make sure your dp knows how lucky he is, (I dont wanna have to come an thump him too!)
I was thinking though, if you dont need them (or even after you use them) you could donate/gift them to your NNU if you have one?
I dont know if its the same across the UK, but my NNU has an array of donated clothing to buy at very reasonable cost, i think the money is used for.....um well, i assume it goes to a good cause! (must ask about that!)
It would save some pennies on posting them. That goes for anyone else too, with not-needed clothing - consider giving it to NNU or maternity wards.

Nice as it is to have some company on the hatched list, hope the rest of you are able to hang on a bit longer, tis the Feb thread after all!

lljkk · 10/01/2008 11:21

Congrats to Ginger, I'm glad that it seems to have all worked out ok. 7lb 5oz is a very good weight for a few weeks early (says she going to a growth scan next week, and I'll be happy if they say bubba is 5.5 lb at 37 weeks).

What are people doing, if anything, about birth announcements on paper? We have relatives who don't really do email and would like an early pic, should I buy a stationary pack or make up my own, or.... not sure! Are you ladies making any plans?

ladlemonke · 10/01/2008 11:26

I say take the wet wipes, not for your lo, but for your face, your pits, your fan-jay-jay...

Jo9977 · 10/01/2008 11:48

Congratulations ginger! How wonderful - well done!!!!!

And welcome to the new little arrival!

Boy, this is making it real...

alkar · 10/01/2008 12:11

Trish - I live in Wigan, just off into Bolton now to meet DH for lunch (its a first - I have to take the sat nav!)

manamana · 10/01/2008 13:02

ladle - great to hear from you and good to hear that those girls are so feisty
Thanks for all the advice re the piles - have just about recovered from having first Dr poking around for a while and then saying she was going to get her colleague to come and have a look as she wasn't sure!!!! Luckily 2nd Dr was also female and v nice but by the time they came back I was in tears having convinced myself that my whole nether regions were falling to pieces - v relieved to hear that they are 'just' piles now and have some cream to apply!
Poblet - I know what you mean about being stuck at home, dawned on me today that I have been pretty much housebound since mid-October and I am getting lower and lower about it as I get less and less mobile and find it harder to get jobs done. Am now counting days - only 25 to go... and for the last 4 lovely MIL will be here .
Saga of my mother continues.... sent her a letter to let her know when I'm booked in for cs and to say I really don't feel well enough to try and sort everything out so if she could it would be great so she doesn't miss out on baby's first weeks etc... no reply... not really helping my mood!

tyaca · 10/01/2008 13:06

widget - know exactly what you mean re hospital bag. pre-xmas, i was spending my xmas scanning thru MN threads and compiling the comprehensive hospital list spreadsheet .... now i'm near enough to allow myself to get started, i'm finding a hundred and one other things to do....

but what fun things! i am de-cluttering the flat like you wouldn't believe (so much sh*t here it's unbelievable) .... and have just spent the last two hours organising all the random computer bits and cables that have been taking up large amounts of space. i am now the proud owner of one shoebox which contains 'em all, each neatly wound and masking taped. EXACTLY what the baby will need, i think you'll find.

ladl - pmol at the sh**y teddy...

LOVEMYMUM · 10/01/2008 13:09

Hi Ginger.

Sadly, when i read your story I wasn't too surprised that you were treated this way - there are some good doctors who listen to their patients and some crap ones who don't listen and don't care.

Don't let this put you off going for another LO if you want.

LOVEMYMUM · 10/01/2008 13:33

My news seems a bit tame compared with other's: LO may be here mid-Feb and not end Feb cos she is still head-up and nowhere near where she needs to be. A c-section would happpen at 38 weeks (4 1/2 weeks time - gulp). Now in a mad rush to get everthing i need. Off to Brent Cross again!

Jambuttie · 10/01/2008 14:08
