Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
susiemj · 16/11/2007 17:04

Hi everyone.

Wishing you all a 'Shiney' weekend (attempting Take That reference for you Beller). It MIGHT be better than you think Naetha . Enjoy NCT classes, MrsMc. Fingers crossed the 'maternal' staff on your ward will make it all feel much better.

Everyone's babies seem so active. My bella-bean is mving about but it's not a demolition derby going on down there. Maybe she's going to be a placid little thing . Wishful thinking!

barristermum · 16/11/2007 17:10

Hey girls,
Lots of friday feelings going on here. Won in the Court of Appeal - their lordships were so alarmed by the size of my bump they were really nice to me and even described my submissions as "elegant" - glad my submissions were as damn all else about me is elegant right now! Like Naetha my beannie seems to be trying to get out or something and I was awake for a while last night while s/he did an excellent "couple of ferrets in a bag" impression.
Mrs McJnr you have (in this as in so many other ways) inspired me to book a tour of my maternity ward. Not sure what to expect and feel it may be best to be informed. Try not to worry too much tho' hon' - am sure that when the time comes we will be so preoccupied we could be giving birth up a palm tree and not really care.
Can everyone fill me in on their antenatal classes - NCT don't do any in my area out of working hours and the hospital have booked me in for their 1 day course on 10th Jan - this may be cutting it a little fine as due date is 15th! Not sure how much we can prepare but appreciate the info you can all provide - you can be my NCT teachers please .
DH and I are going out on a date night tonight after he was away - theatre and dinner and really looking forward to some quality time with him. Then we have friends coming this weekend - dh will do most of cooking and I am refusing to go to too great lengths as they are all v good friends and so can take us as they find us, but with 4 adults and 2 toddlers staying I suspect I shall be knackered by the end of it all.
Madmouse - LOVE the squeaky beak!

gingeme · 16/11/2007 17:49

Hi everyone.
barristermum Im so in awe of all your theatre visits. The last time I did anything like that was dh's and mine first anniversary when we went to see Chicago with Marti Pellow in yummy!
We bought our new car today well we put the deposit on it and were picking it up tommorrow lunch time. Its a Citreon Xsara Picasso. Its red and year 2001. Basicaly its the same as my Dads but a bit older and red. His is silver. They even part exchanged our crappy Nissan Sunny and knocked £100 off the price.
PLus I have just bought a lovely double buggy off Ebay, brand new with rain cover and footmuffs for £89. It will be delivered on Monday.
Yeah Im soooooooooooooo happy
Have a good weekend all. xxx

fluffymummy · 16/11/2007 17:56

Hi everyone...not been in for a couple of days due to excessive travelling (beginning to understand why airlines don't like pg women flying after 30-ish weeks - I feel rough today ) and too many late nights and early mornings....

Hope everyone is well? Couple of quick things...

MrsMc - have you seen the stickers at www.funtoseeworld.com...we used the jungle ones for DS's room and they're still fab 2 years later

Yes, still flying up to Glasgow but the next trip (coming up afternoon of 26th Nov) will hopefully be my last one . DH has put his foot down rather firmly and made it clear that I'm not to fly in December, even tho in theory I could fly until just before xmas . For once, I'm not going to argue, especially after landing at 9pm last night, getting home at 11pm after nightmare roadworks on the M1 and then being at work at 8.30am.... My miserable mood was not helped by arriving home to no hot water and there being none this morning either as our useless plumbers had failed again to get everything working before they left for the day....

I'm still hoping to meet up with you, Lolo and Angel on 27th, waiting to find out how many nights I'll be there for - but even if I am there I definitely can't make it out until about 4.30/5pm...will that be ok?

Barristermum - well done on the case! There are NCT classes in Golders Green, although it may be a little bit late to get on them as they tend to fill up. But they don't start until 33/34 weeks, so you could definitely still do them if you can get them to squeeze you in. You need to contact the woman in Belsize Park (as far as I can remember) who co-ordinates the north-london area and tell her you want to do the NW11 postcode classes. FYI, I have a friend moving to live by you who is training to run NCT classes in N2 so there will be some soon but possibly not in time for you

Sabinar - feel better soon. I'm still risking low-ish heels but am deeply wobbly...

MixedMama - thanks for the new thread By the way, there is an outside chance I'll be able to come on 29th after all...it depends on how long I'm in Glasgow for that week....

Love to everyone else...going to go and crash on the sofa and play with ds for a bit now as I haven't seen him for aaaages Hope you all have luvverly weekends and look forward to catching up on Monday xxx

LuckySalem · 16/11/2007 23:56

Sorry, haven't been around much.

Mrs McJnr - Its our tour next week and I'm panicking. I don't like hospitals at the best of times, still quite set on staying at home as long as possible and would love homebirth so going to speak to the midwife on Tues and see what she says to it.

I've been getting quite wierd bumps from little 'un. You know if you sit on leather bare butted (cos of corse everyone does) and then scrape forward, thats the feeling i'm getting in my belly, freaky!

Bag still not packed but went abit nuts on Ebay yesterday, have spent £10 altogether on a bag, changing mat and bottle warmer (all in the same design) some clothes, some socks, bibs. A hospital bag (cos mine aren't big enough) and a couple of blankets.

Was going to go to my Nains (mum's mum in welsh) and put the pram but according to her i'm not allowed till after 4th Dec. lol, bless her.

Had a letter from work yesterday about when my appeal hearing is. Week today. Am panicking loads.

ANYWAY - enough with the gossiping, hope all is ok.. xx

MomBanks · 17/11/2007 09:44

hi everyone,

havent been on in ages but good to see the thread is still going strong!!!!

lulubump - do you live in west hampstead? if so, me too! iverson road.

all fine here. we are a bit last-minute in all of our planning but last weekend we finally started to get organised. picked out the cot and changing table we want, just need to get the order in now. i have the day off monday to go up to the giant tesco in watford and start buying all the other essentials.

33 weeks so there isnt too much time left.....a friend of mine gave birth last week at 32 weeks. scared us into action i think!

Amani · 17/11/2007 11:06

Morning all,

Just a nosey to see what's being discussed ..

Baristermum - congratulations with yuor work. You deserve a good rest this weekend and don't over do it with the toddlers

LuckySalam - I got a good bargin on the Avent ISIS breat pump on eBAY. Well pleased with that...still trying to find a good bargin for the GHD hair straightner, but keep losing!

Fluffy - take it easy with all that travelling

ayrshirelolo · 17/11/2007 14:58

Afternoon folks!
Just a wee quickie, wanted to see how everyone is today!
Got on the pc for 5 mins while dsd is out with dh getting a dvd... too many d's i think!!
Did nothing last night.. lovely! dh cooked a huge roast chicken dinner for me getting home (that's why i married him!) and is cooking steak and chips tonight - apparantly i've not to do anything coz i'm "looking a bit tired!" Excellent! feet up in front of telly, nice bath, early bed.... boring but comfortable!!
Take it easy everybody, barristermum have fun with the visitors, luckys don't worry about the appeal - you'll be fine! fluffy have a good rest - anytime you can on the 27th suits me, i'm about half an hour out of the city centre but work flexi time and have cleared the diary!
Naetha good luck with the fil and kitchen.. madmouse that is one hell of a bag!! (in a good way!)
waves and hugs to everyone else lolo xx
ps.. wish I was going to see TT tonight!

katyt1 · 17/11/2007 18:38

hi all

was going to come on and tell you about the wonders of reinflating my gym ball, last time i put air in was last pg, so maybe 2 yrs ago and it was getting a tad soft...
then dh sat on it and, well, you guessed it, ball is no more !

think he may have sat down quite hard on the floor....serves him right i say

hahahahahaha course now i have to go and get another one, that was from argos, will have to see if they still do them.

anyway, lucky - good luck with the appeal, the sods. well done shopping

lolo - good dh

naetha - hope you haven't lost it with fil yet...

madmouse - love the bag, do they do a giraffe version? i've fancied that range for a while for a bag for ds when he's bigger too.

mombanks - hope your friend's baby is ok, that shd be enough to kick us all into gear! i shd get a bag sorted to have handy at home as i'm hoping for home birth too but handy to have stuff in one place that you might need.

right, we are off out to try and see the lights being turned on and some fireworks after, ds loves them at the mo.
then try a teatime out in town.

spk later

MrsMcJnr · 17/11/2007 19:02

Madmouse ? LOL at that bag

Susiemj ? I am the same hon, my Beanie doesn?t seem to be able to pack a kick or a punch the way some of the other ones on here can but (s)he loves to squirm!!

Fabulous result Barristermum well done you! Sounds like praise indeed from their lordships! you are lovely you know I have to say, even though I was a little disappointed by the labour ward tour (I guess I expected that ward and the post natal ward to be happier places?!) it has made me think about what I need to take with me and imagine what would be most useful etc so that?s positive I have my first NCT class tomorrow so will give you a summary after that. My first NHS class covered signs of and stages of labour and when to call the hospital ? so all easy to find in books really (and better explained!) hope you had a great date with DH and have fun with your friends (yup, you?ll be shattered!)

Gingeme ? I was a Marti fan myself but he?s gone off a bit don?t you think?! I was watching him and his fellow Wets on Children in Need last night. Enjoy the new car and buggy

Hey Fluffy oohhh more stickers to look at, thank you! you must be exhausted after all that travel! Will try my best to still be in Glasgow at 4.30pm on 27th (I have to tie in with DH for transport home, no direct bus/train!) I?d so love to meet you!

LuckySalem ? sorry hon, hope I haven?t panicked you about the tour, I?m sure you?ll feel happier once you?ve been LOL at the feeling ? might have to go and try that on the sofa to see what you mean Have you spoken to a lawyer yet about the appeal, I really think you should take advice hon.

Mombanks ? great to hear from you and so glad all is well. I realized that my Mum and Sis had their first babies 3 weeks on from where I am today ? just not ready yet!

Ayreshirelolo your DH sounds fab! we had steak and chips last night, I am home alone tonight and should go and feed my baby properly but I?m so tired ? someone told me if in doubt, a bowl of cereal is always a good bet

Beller ? have a fab time tonight!!!

Hey Amani

Katyt ? oh dear sorry to hear about the death of your ball!!

I?ve had a lovely day DH assembled the nursing chair that DSIL bought us in the ?nursery? I then cleaned out the chest of drawers, lined it with nice paper and put all Beanie?s clothes in the drawers now that they are washed and ready. It actually looks quite like a baby?s room in there already! need to measure for shelves later on as hope to persuade DH to take me to B&Q after NCT tomorrow to get some Also been planning a surprise 60th birthday party here for DMIL on 15/12, about 40 folk are coming and we are getting her a stripper ? she?ll love it (I wouldn?t!)

Oh, meant to say, DH is kicking up because we were asked to bring vegetarian lunch items to NCT tomorrow to share, he loves his meat and thinks that this is just more evidence that NCT is about tree hugging, lentil eating and throwing away razors just hope he is not too hung over after his night out tonight, can?t imagine 6 hours in a boiling hot hospital listening to baby chat with a hangover!

Have a lovely Sat night everyone

LuckySalem · 17/11/2007 19:46

Hi All,

Just a quick note, the MW at my antinatal class said not to use the balls after 35 weeks as can bring on labour. (HOWEVER if you go into labour after 36 weeks they'll let you give birth so maybe those who can't cope as it gets further can use this)

I'm after a ball on ebay at the moment, that and baby monitors. If I'm going to breastfeed should I be getting a breast pump? Also what happens if I can't breast feed, should I be getting some bottles in just in case?

MamaMaiasaura · 17/11/2007 21:52

Hi all Hope you are all having good weekends.

DP flew out this morning and missing him lots. Ds was very upset after he left. He is still in the air as 12 hour flight. His birthday tomorrow but we had a mini birthday do last night for him.

I have itchy skin too, really irritating when trying to sleep.

lol @ the desription of baby like a ferret in a bag. Pudding has been so squirmy last few days too. I think he has also been gulping the amniotic fluid as hiccuping loads.

Have so stuff going on for ds with school atm so only been fleetingly posting on mumsnet.

Fingers still really puffy and am feeling hot like some of you.

Re breast pump, did buy one and bottles and steriliser with ds1. Didnt really use any except the pump to relieve encgorgment but then ended up expressing by hand when engorged. This time not getting any, as bottles were a waste as ds refused them with expressed milk. If are needed can get them then.

Hugs to all xx

madmouse · 17/11/2007 22:31

Hi all

Also lol at two ferrets in a bag description. Pretty accurate description of what went on when I was lying on the sofa this morning being lazy . Amazing how much of my belly he can move, I wonder what he actually does when that happens? My dh teases me that I should have a little peek window like a bread maker .

We had booked to go on a conference for ministry students (and spouses) but both felt so knackered that we stayed at home instead of driving from Oxford to Derby and back. Glad we did, great lazy day, ending with Dutch pancakes for dinner, with bacon and syrup yum. Managed to do the weekly shop on my bicycle (bags from the handle bars) as usual, but glad I will only have to do it once more, after that I will finish work and plan to do lots of little shops to keep active.

Kathyt I had a look but the giraffe bags are in short supply, I think they were limited edition. They look a bit like thisbut this is not a changing bag.

LilyLoo · 18/11/2007 09:49

Morning ladies hope you all having nice weekend
If any of you have little ones with a vtech massive bargain in woolworths yesterday games £2.99 !
Anyone bought a birthing pool ? Juts wondered if anyone knew which parts of the kit i actually need ?

gingeme · 18/11/2007 10:55

Morning ladies.
Awen How long does dp usualy go away for? Dont think my boys could cope without their Dad or is that me?
Luckysalem play it by ear at the moment. As Awen said dont buy bottles unless you feel you realy cant cope with breast feeding. I bought a pump but used it once or twice and ended up giving it to my friend. I dont think she uses it that often as she hand expresses too.
Had a realy s**t day yesterday re car. Cut a long story short Went to get it to find the road closed where the car showroom is because an old lady got knocked down and killed. Got in there to find bloke not back with the tax. Did all paper work while waiting put my card in the machine for it to be denied. Tried again, denied. The car guy told us there was a Halifax open till 4 in Brent Cross, bearing in mind this was Saturday. Went there to be told my cheque was not clear till Wednesday. Rang the car man up and explained and apologised. He said no problem see us Wednesday. Im going to Halifax tommorrow to find out why this is as all other cheques clear within 5-7 working days. Oh well sorry about the moan.
I have printed the map for the meet up tommorrow. See you all there providing I dont get lost.

Neuro · 18/11/2007 12:11

good morning!
what a grey dull day. I can't be bothered to get dressed...

katyt1 · 18/11/2007 13:14

lilyloo - a bought a pool from birthpoolinabox .com i think, it came with everything you needed;
pump (we paid extra for the electric one!)
step (v important for wee trips! and we use it now for ds to wash hands and brush teeth)
erm, liner, sieve (ahem ), can't remember what else.
this time all i need to get is another liner, tho you can manage without. i will prob get 2 liners so we can have another test go like last time, tho i might not test it at 37+6 as i went into labour at 38...

gingeme - bad luck re cars/cheques, i hate having to deal with car stuff so much that dh is i/c that!

dh winding me up today, he's being that pathetic-i'm so tired-wimpy-type bloke that drives me crazy!!! he's asleep and ds is crying upstairs as does he wake up, no. i have to heave my achy belly up there to calm him down. ah well, best go up again and see if he will sleep at all today....

back later x

gingeme · 18/11/2007 13:23

Thankyou katy1.
Anyone whos going tomorrow could you help please? Ill be going to Angel station and sort of know where the road is from there. Should I get a bus along Upper Street or is it not too long to walk?
Thanks x

fluffymummy · 18/11/2007 14:11

Hi everyone,

Feeling quite pants today...have come down with a mini-lurgy (slightly sore throat and a bit achey) so am praying it will clear by tomorrow as I'm desperate not to miss tomorrow's meet-up. Really wish I didn't have to go to Newbury for the day tomorrow - pretty certain if I spent the day working at home in bed I'd be fine.

DH reckons its just exhaustion (ok, he's probably right) and is pressing me to cancel next weeks trip to Glasgow, but that really isn't an option. I have promised him I'll take it really easy...

Just need to share how luvverly he's been today as am feeling really lucky...he got up to look after ds this morning (well, it was his turn ) at 8.45am, but then left me to sleep for aaaages - came into the room with ds at 10.30am to say 'goodbye' and has taken ds out for the day with friends. Best of all, he left me strict instructions not to do any tidying up (ok, might have done a smidgeon!! ), to lie in bed with the papers, have a hot bath and take it really easy .

Honestly can't remember the last time I sat in a silent house reading the Sunday Times at 12.30pm, but I suspect it was pre-ds!!!

Have now made it as far as the downstairs sofa & have clothes on, but don't intend to budge much today. My mum has offered to take ds for a bit this afternoon if dh and ds come home and dh wants a break. I could definitely get used to this

Gingeme - restaurent is about 10 mins slow walk along from Angel tube, just straight along Upper Street. Its a few hundred yards after where Essex road splits off to the right, so not too far to walk if you're not too tired.

Can someone remind me what time we're supposed to be there please??!

Barristermum - I'm going to drive down, would you like a lift? (Assuming lurgy has cleared, of course!)

Love to all, hope you're all having lovely weekends xxxx

gingeme · 18/11/2007 14:43

fluffymummy thamks for that info about the walk to the resteraunt. Hope your feeling better. at your ever so helpful dh. Just read that out to mine and he said'is that a dig at me?' to which I replied' take it how you wan darling!'
Were meeting at 7 by the way.
See you then

LuckySalem · 18/11/2007 17:05

I packed the baby's bag last night. I still need to get some bum cream and a couple more suits. I've only got the no arm no legs ones at the moment.

I haven't packed my bag yet, no nighties etc yet. I'm waiting for my bag to arrive from Ebay first. Going shopping once it arrives. So depressing going shopping though cos I feel bad for spending any money.

Hope everyone is ok, keep smiling.

katyt1 · 18/11/2007 19:50

fluffy at your dh! think he got all the goodness from my dh today! no really mine isn't that bad normally but today he's been this pathetic drip oh woe is me character and it's v annoying. then he finally tells me he feels sick and his vision went funny yest - could it ba a migraine perchance? seeing as how he does occasionally get them, and he has pills to take at the first sign, and has he taken them, errr no, just a paracetamol....god blokes hey!?!?
anyway, he is now cooking me a roast so i best not moan any longer.

wish i was coming tomorrow too, have fun everyone who's going.

MamaMaiasaura · 18/11/2007 20:43

Fluffymummy - hope yo are feeling lots better soon. Glad to see you are being properly pampered

Gingeme - he is gone for 2 weeks this time. Hopefully last one for a while, next one likely to be when baby is 2-3 months old. He is trying to delay that one as much as possible.

Luckysalem - I Havent finished packing etc of bags either. ((hugs)) about feeling bad for spending money. I am still so at how you have been treated. THink it is disgusting. xx

Katy1 - men just dont use common sense tho do they hope your roast was yummy tho.

Neuro - Agree about horrid day. Was raining, windy & cold. Ds had rugby match. Got soaked and cold and muddy, thankfully wasnt a long one so go home and we had bubble bath and toasted muffins with runny egg and ham.

Still very preoccupied here with ds and school atm. He really doesnt like going and really hard to think of him unhappy. Meeting after school on monday to try and help re his 'slow' writing (beautiful writing and loving spelling, but perfectionist and slow).

Got scan tomorrow as well at 11 and then seeing consutlant to discuss birth (omg it is coming up fast!! If i have this one at 38 weeks like ds only 4 weeks to go!!)

Dp's birthday today, he managed to call us this morning and arrived safe and well. Missing him loads but trying to look at it from the view that last time ds is likely to have exclusively me for such a long period of time Resisting crawling going upstairs for another snuggle

MamaMaiasaura · 18/11/2007 20:44

oo and have a lovely time meeting up tomorrow xx

LilyLoo · 18/11/2007 21:08

evening ladies

thanks katy for info about the birthing pool am now trying to find one on the net so that info will be very useful will look up that site.

Lucky i haven't packed any bags yet am still in two minds whether to or not as hoping to stay at hoem but dp getting jittery that he might have to do it in case of emergency and god forbid what i would have then so suppose i should do.

Fluffyhope you feel better tom and hope dh keeping up the taking care of you
Awen good luck with scan and school apt tom. It must be really hard with dh away let's hope the two weeks fly.

Gingeme let's hope that's the teething problems ironed out. How awful for that old lady i saw a cyclist knocked off his bike by a truck on Fri was awful and was stuck behind it so couldn't go anywhere.

The nursery sounding lovely MrsMC that was def one of the best things when it all smells so new and you keep peeping in and can't quite believe that a little person will be in there very soon.

Barristermum how was the date ?

Mombanks 32 weeks how s' the baby ?

Hope everyone else had good weekend.

Can't remember who was asking about their other half and their birthday pres. Well can i just say how pleasedi am with dp he has got me the most beautiful eternity ring, which means a lot as he doesn't do the whole wedding thing. But he mumbled something about being together for eternity over a beautiful meal on Fri night. I didnt give him any ideas and it fit perfectly. So am very happy at the mo just wish i could come out with you all tom to celebrate have an orange juice for me. Can't believe i have to work on my 30th it shouldn't be allowed !

Hope you all keep well and i will try to keep up am just wondering each time i come on now if one of us will have popped
