On the itchy scalp thread. there is a french shampoo which works in one go for any itchiness or flakyness. Selegel - by Ducray- smells like polytar and very expensive £7 for quite a small bottle. You only need to use it every now and then but it really does work. Hope that helps. You can order it from the www.garden.co.uk OMG I am such an internet shopping freak. Just realise that almost all of my threads have a shop link!!

Amani · 16/11/2007 08:08

beller · 16/11/2007 08:27

Luckysalem - is it the ncy or midwife that will only talk about breast feeding? I know at my NCT , she said they are not allowed for some reason, but cant remember why ?

beller · 16/11/2007 08:49

oops meant nct!

susiemj · 16/11/2007 08:58

Morning all.

Intrigued by the Lillypadz discussion. So you wear them at might instead of a bra and you won't leak all over the place? Is that right?

My MW at antenatal said they were obliged to mainly talk about breastfeeding because of the known health benefits to mother and baby as they are healthcare providers. They weren't completely down on bottlefeeding and do provide formula in hospital. They would discuss any questions asked too. Maybe yours are the same but didn't put it very well, Luckysalem?

Hope everyone has stopped itching!

Naetha · 16/11/2007 09:25

Morning all

Had a work curry night out last night which was lovely, although a late finish (well 11pm, late for me at the moment!). It was kind-of my leaving do, as I've got 2 weeks left, and not likely to have another evening out before then. Bubs performed suitably, and people were slightly freaked out by him poking his foot out and them being able to push it back in!

I'm so glad it's Friday, although we've got a hell of a weekend ahead. My stepdad is up at the moment fitting our kitchen, for which I'm very grateful, but it just reminds me of how I hate sharing my house with people I don't really know. He was asking me all sorts of questions when I got back last night at 11pm about where I wanted sockets (the old ones were fine where they were!), and what I was going to do about exchanging a cupboard door (where they'd sent out the wrong one - but the form had a number to call if it was wrong - why couldn't he do it?!?). He's always worked from home, or been self employed, and I don't think he understands what it's like when both partners work full time, and are out of the house for 12 hours a day. He seems to think that we can go to work and do all this house related stuff, AND come home and be happy to spend 2 hours faffing around talking about kitchens when it's him making the decision anyway!!! I know I shouldn't be ungrateful, it's just tough! And he keeps on putting his crusty feet on the coffee table where we eat our evening meals - NOT NICE!!!!

Ahh that feels better

As for the flaky scalp, I have sebhorrheic dermatitis (basically cradle cap on my head and eyebrows) as well as normal dandruff that's usually kept in check by using Capasal shampoo (another one that makes you smell like a fence!) that is given on prescription, and is the strongest one you can get! It usually works a treat (when I use it regularly anyway) but just isn't making a dent at the moment! I guess it's just one of those things

I might try the lilypadz tonight - I'm sick of sleeping on a towel (it always gets rucked up and uncomfortable) and the leakage at night is pretty icky!

Anyway, my brain has stopped functioning temporarily, but I'll post more stuff as I remember! Hope everyone is feeling well with sprained ankles and swollen extremities!

mixedmama · 16/11/2007 09:33

Morning all....

LuckySalem - I think they are not allowed to promote bottle feeding.

Good morning all.
Thanks for that mixedmamma. Just wondering if I should be a real piggy and come o oth ups. I just love chinese food and it would be nice to meet more of you I havnt already. Ill try to get the exact address of Aroma at Wood Green for you at some point over the weekend and put it on here.
Talking of nipples and leakage. I had a bath with my one year old last night and he kept flicking my left nipple and killing himself laughing. Not sure why. But then he squished it and I nearly jumped out of the bath! Since he has done this though its been leaking all night and this morning. Ive been wearing a breast pad which looks a bit lop sided. When we had that rough night with him during the week and he was crying loads they both leaked loads too. Strange.
We are going to look at a car today. I have been left some money in my Grandads will and recieved a nice healthy cheque on Monday which is now clear so weve seen a couple of cars we like the look of so are going later We are looking for a Citreon Xsara Picasso. My Dad has one and we all fit in it quite comfortably. Plus its big enough without being too big. PLus they have three proper seat belts in the back for when we have three car seats to put in. Oh cant wait.
Well have a good day all. Will try to pop in later.
If not have a good weekend xxxx

mixedmama · 16/11/2007 10:18

Lulubump · 16/11/2007 10:28

V excited about the meet up on 29th. My conference will be near Westminster, and due to end by 5-ish, and I'll make my way to Wood Green soon after. If anyone can offer a lift (either there, or back to West Hampstead afterwards) - it would be gratefully accepted!

susiemj · 16/11/2007 10:48

I can sympathise with the 'living with strangers' thing, Naetha. When I was still working my brother came to stay for a few weeks because he was in a complete state. It put such a strain on us having a 'stranger' in the house who is not really a guest as such. It was made worse because my brother really has no social sense. For example, he'd have no comprehension that DH and I would want to sit next to each other after a long day out of the house and constantly sit in between us (best angle for the TV!). These small things get so wearing!

Feet on coffee table baaad.

That is a nice top, Beller. I foundthis and another one called active babywear, which for some reason I can't find at the moment. Will post when I do find it.

Gingme - it'll be lovely to have a big car. Our friend has one and it feels very luxurious to have space.

Very over meet ups. Hope you have a great time.

Have had no leaking. I'm not sure whether to be pleased or not about this. Probably pleased, no? I mean, I guess the milk will work eventually.

See you all later.

gingeme · 16/11/2007 11:01

mixedmamma will definately come Monday then. I have never tried Turkish food. It isnt spicy is it? Cant do spicy stuff pregnant or not.

barristermum · 16/11/2007 11:38

susiemj - really liked those pjs from next - went straight online and then spent a further hundred quid on jumpers and a new dress etc! And am now replying to you all when I should be working as am in the court of appeal in precisely one hours time - aaargh - will post more later! hugs

MrsMcJnr · 16/11/2007 11:39

A wee catch up from where I left off..

Madmouse snap ? I am also a lawyer who reads too much for her own good

Fluffy ? are you still flying up and down all the time?

Bettymamma wish I could meet up too! poor FIL I had a great uncle who had also been a Japanese POA the things he suffered were horrendous My MIL and at least one of her sisters are bi-polar, we think there were a few more in the generation above. MIL was at her worst after her two children but she still has lapses now when she reaches for pills to find oblivion very scary, I so hope my DC don?t inherit it. Sometimes my DH goes into slumps for days and I can?t reach him and it worries me that he may have inherited it to a degree. I guess it is just something to look out for and deal with I remember you saying that before about Adam from Spooks it is odd when someone who know becomes public property! the name Honey reminds me of that old song that always makes me cry of the same name ? don?t know who sings it but it is all about how his wife dies, god, I?m welling up just thinking about it ? Do you know the one I mean?

Gingeme ? well done for tackling the cupboard did you find lots of useful stuff?!

Fruitful ? glad to hear you are taking it easy great news about the baby from the scan but sorry to hear about the placenta what does that mean for you? take good care now x

Luckysalem ? no, bag still not packed!

Sabinar ? poor ankle I am always doing things to my ankles so can totally empathise hope the osteo made a difference to the rib pain, touch wood, so far I have had none of that. Shall check out that website link you gave us

Amani ? sorry to hear things are hard at work I am desperate to leave now (though still have 5 weeks ) on the days I come into the office like today, I spend the first hour feeling sick from the bus and then I?m knackered all day ? I have tons to do but they only way I can do it is to intersperse it with MN to keep me motivated

Nicky6 ? those stairs sound tiring, hope the trial is going your way. Sorry DH is not being enthusiastic about the classes it must be disappointing for you. Mine confessed last night that he is worried about being bored when I am in labour! hope your sugar levels are ok.

Ayrshirelolo ? yeah about 27th ? where shall we meet? I?ll be around George Square if somewhere near there suits LOL at DH ? we?ll be a sight to behold! Glad personnel were good, makes a nice change glad all was well at the MW, I have some swelling in my fingers too, especially at night, it makes any paper cuts I have (always have lots!) really sting Sorry to hear about the abuse at work ? scary. My sister is a probation officer and I hate the stories she tells me sometimes about the way she?s treated (she?s my baby sister so I am very protective of her!) I can?t get my rings off but I don?t think they are constricting the blood flow so I intend to just leave them there. I?ll wave back I live at J4 but get on at J2 going West!

Angechica ? hang in there hon

Mixemama ? hello!

Beller you sound like a busy lady, take it easy! On Weds night I met a friend for drinks (non alch!) as thought DH would pick me up and take me home after his Spanish class but he got held up in Glasgow and I ended up having to get the train (with lots of bags) at 9pm, got home at 10pm in tears, I just felt so shattered and lousy ? the limitations do seem to be setting in now! I do big shops quarterly at Makro for the same reason as you, it is so much easier not long now for you until Mat leave I?ve been getting emotional too, a lady was horrible to me in M&S and I started to cry

Naetha ? sounds like you are getting sorted LOL at your DH, we are having a sponsored row in the office, I am not taking part funnily enough!

Susiemj my tummy is a bit like that most of the time it has been all through my pregnancy. Prefer that to constipation though! I?m with you on all the light coloured mat pjs too and what?s with all the skimpy tops, as a well endowed girl anyway, I need a shelf these days not shoe string straps!

MrsB, Katyt1, lulubump hello!

Hey Cazzybaby good to hear all is well with you

PCM ? how are you hon? I shall go over and read your post in Pregnancy.

Barristermum poor Kenny, no the chachacha won?t be his thing

Toomanyshoes ? glad all is looking good on the scan, hope the fluid gets back down ? 5 5lbs wow! my next scan is on Thurs ? hope I don?t get the horrid sonographer again

mixedmama · 16/11/2007 11:59

Gingeme - well it is billed at medit but most sites have said Turkish (I think the owners are). Mainly kebabs really when you go out. Meze for starters normally humus etc, stuffed vine leaves. Not spicy normally.

MrsMcJnr · 16/11/2007 12:05

Last night DH and I went for our tour of the labour ward. It stirred up all sorts of emotions. It was really quiet in there so we were able to have a good look around but what really stuck me was; how small it was, how public the delivery rooms seemed with their gold fish windows, how bright the lights were, how hot it was, that there was only one loo and one shower for all 10 delivery rooms and it was a quite a walk from the rooms. I was also really disappointed in the birthing pools and they only had 2. I don?t really know what I was expecting but I thought they?d be bigger, more private and have more purchase for you to hold on to. There was no way DH could get into the pool with me. The place was spotless which was fantastic and I guess it would be good if it was quiet like it was last night. There was one waiting room for ladies who are in labour but not in active labour. It was tiny and I felt really claustrophobic just standing in there, there is no way I want to spend any time in there, you just couldn?t get comfy. It reinforced my desire to go in as late as I possibly can. Some of the ladies got quite upset as they were told that epidurals at the weekends and after 5pm may take a long time to get as there is one anaesthetist on call for the whole hospital. We then went up to the post-natal ward and I didn?t like it up there at all the midwife taking us round was so insensitive to the ladies up there who?d just given birth and was marching into the wards asking in the 12 if us could come in and see their babies, understandably most said no and looked stressed. DH and I refused to go in anyway and I voiced quiet loudly how disturbing I would find it if I was a new mum and all these unhygienic strangers came to gaup at me and my baby, none of the other couples went in either. I might feel differently or have no choice I guess but I can see myself wanting to get out of there very quickly! One good thing it reinforced though was what I actually need. The MW suggested a separate small labour bag aside from your ward bag just with the things you?d want then. It was so sparse in there I can see me taking in CDS, pillows, my ball, a cold bag with drinks etc in, my flip flops etc. They also said that any electrical equipment like hairdryers have to be vetted before use so it?s better to borrow them there.

NCT classes start on Sunday and I am really looking forward to them. The teacher called yesterday and seemed so nice and so prepared I am beginning to get worried about my doula. I haven?t heard from her since I was 20 weeks and she said then that we?d get our prep done together ?soon?. I also know that she can?t be available for the whole period around our due date and was going to recommend someone else to stand in just in case but hasn?t yet. I know I am only 31+3 but I guess I just thought we?d have got to know her better by now and I am just worried about sharing such an intimate experience without more prep ? maybe that is just me and the control freak surfacing but I am feeling a bit worried about it. We realty liked her and think she?d be a massive help to both of us but not coming in cold. Is that unreasonable?

After deciding not to have a nursery, I am now ?sort of? doing one as we are unlikely to move before Beanie gets here. We are having a jungle theme (the curtains are cream in there with little elephants already as is the bedding so I thought I?d just build on that) I am really excited about these big wall stickers you can get that come off easily, I think they?ll transform the room I got some Mnetters to help me on a product thread and as a result I have now go bids in on eBay for a lamp, a clock, a nappy stacker, storage boxes etc ? it?s fun!

Anyway, it?s nice just to chat and not be catching up for a change!!

susiemj · 16/11/2007 12:06

(bumbles in growling and muttering) ...
whay can't people just ask 'When are you due?' instead of 'You can't have long to go then'. So rude! Bump is currently textbook size for 32 weeks thankyou very much!

Glad pyjamas are going down well. Am waiting to decide whether to buy curtains from Next. Anyone done so? Are they nice?

Barristermum - LOL at spending spree - could you let me know if the pyjamas come up big or small when you get them? I hate anything tight at the moment.

madmouse · 16/11/2007 12:20

MrsMcJnr have you considered staying at home for the birth? Sounds hugely stressful to go into a place to give birth when you already know you won't be very comfortable. Stress inhibits labour and all that.

I will be staying at home, unless breech, dangerous blood pressure etc.

Hello everybody. Had a good night sleep yay , now my body wants more of it. Thank God it is Friday.

sabinar · 16/11/2007 12:48

Madmouse, MrsMcJnr - that's exactly what I was going to suggest, but I'm a little biased towards staying at home because that's also what I hope to do!

lucky you having a good nights sleep Madmouse. I had a rotten one... terrible heartburn kept waking me up and I had to literally sit up in bed for ages. Horrid. Probably serves me right for eating dinner after my antenatal class rather than before (we were learning all about induction last night... lordy, I hope we can all avoid that)

due to sore ankle and sleepiness I have been working from bed this morning. Feels somewhat pathetic but I'm actually getting quite a bit done! Will have to hobble down stairs in search of some food soon tho' I think!

LilyLoo · 16/11/2007 12:51

Afternoon ladies just a quick run by on my lunchtime.Hope everyone ok and just wanted to say all have a fab weekend anyone doing anything nice ?
Dp taking me out to a restauraunt tonight for my birthday so am going to indulge in some nice food can use the ketones as an excuse

MrsMcJnr · 16/11/2007 12:56

Thanks for the homebirth suggestions ladies I wish I could but I am not allowed as I am high risk due to my risk of haemorrhage as I have been on heparin and aspirin throughout the pregnancy for a blood clotting disorder. Safer all round if we are at the hospital.

Amani · 16/11/2007 13:18

Happy bithday lilyloo - enjoy your meal

Mrs McJnr - interesting to read about your hospital tour. Thinking I might give my hospital a visit again to see if things have changed since I last gave birth.

at madmouse for good night sleep. Even though I promised myself not to look at the clock I checked and realised I was awake between 3:30 - 5am.

Beller - those tops look really trendy - mmm might have to invest in one...

at meet up.

Anyone got any interesting plans for weekend....(not me - which I'm not too fussed about - enjoying my 'slow' pace of life)

Oh by the way we have a conference here and there is sooooo much food left - so piled plate high with 5 sandwiches (mind you they ARE small) loads of crisps, some vegetable kebabs, and wraps...yum yum
..oh and a bit of melon to balance things out...

mixedmama · 16/11/2007 13:24

MrsMcJnr... I think try not to worry about the delivery area too much as you will be busy. Also, walkign tot he loo will help you to dilate... trust me I was made to walk from the birthing unit to the delivery suite and dillated those last 3 cm.

Reagrding the postnatal wards.. that is trickier. ithink you said before that you stayin 5 days to establish BF... if this is the case, could you look at the possibility of an amenity room or private room.

I am tryign to budget for two nights in a private room if i dont get a six hour discharge.
