madmouse · 16/11/2007 13:37

for all of those with bad nights. It was a miracle I had no heart burn as supper was fish and chips at 10pm .

MrsMcJr shame to have your place of delivery dictated by a medical condition. I would be the same though in your case, even if no-one can allow or disallow you a home birth, I would feel safer in hospital.

Intrigued by the idea of staying in hospital for five days to establish breast feeding. Here is a newbie speaking but don't these things work much better in the comfort of your own home?

I will go on a hospital tour as well though, so at least it won't be all strange if I end up transferring in the middle of labour (crossing fingers toes and tail hoping that this will not happen)

beller · 16/11/2007 14:10

Hi Mrsmcjnr - Sorry you had such a dissapointing visit around the maternity ward. I too was going to say thats exactly why im choosing a homebirth, but as its not an option for you ill send you a hug ((((((((()))))))))))))). Make a list of all the things that will make it more homey and comfortable for you. Out NCT teacher spent most of this week goign over how imprortant it is to feel relaxed where you give birth, and there are things that you can take ie, those glowing candle ( not real flame) cd's , birth ball etc. Im sure your teacher will go ove it all as well xx

beller · 16/11/2007 14:33

madmouse....Fish and chips mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

MrsMcJnr · 16/11/2007 14:34

Madmouse ? my hospital are known to be very maternal and are good at giving you support with BF if you want it and apparently, it is beneficial to get your milk established whilst you are there and get their help so my original plan was to stay the 5 nights but I am not sure now, it think I would feel institutionalised. There are private rooms but they are only available if you are very ill and they were tiny.

Thanks Beller

Hi folks!
Just a quicky as i'm at work..... i'm SO glad it's friday! have lots of admiration for those still with a social life!
MrsMcj, i think mixedmama is right, you'll probably be quite busy and not so worried about the labour bit, but yes, the post natal ward is a worry. I know i couldn't wait to get out with dd, only stayed one night! As for feeding i was desperate to breastfeed but couldn't get anything in hospital at all, either by getting baby to latch on on expressing - paediatrician told me to bottle feed for a couple of days and keep doing "skin to skin" contact at home, relax and wait till milk appeared before starting again. I have to say i never got a drop of milk appearing even after all my efforts (and some were v painful!) however that just means i'm biologically odd, but sure your midwives can visit at home or health visitor or whoever to help with breast feeding? Would have thought it would be easier to establish when relaxed in your own home? Anyone agree who actually managed to do it ? hugs to you anyway!!!! And try not to get stressed! Fingers crossed for both of us the M8 is quiet tonight (ha ha ha!)lolo x

mixedmama · 16/11/2007 15:06

i didnt managee bf very well, but certainly felt better supported at home than in hospital.

Has anyone else got that 'it's a Friday afternoon feeling'....trying to motivate myself to do some last bits...

MrsMcJnr · 16/11/2007 15:29

Amani - totally!! I am shattered and it's hot as hell in here and I just can't be bothered which is annoying me as I am making my Monday so much worse than it needs to be but hey!

What are your weekend plans ladies? Mine are Gggggggggrrrrrrreat! couch potato tonight, DH out all day tomorrow so pottering and focusing on Beanie's room and things and then NCT class on Sunday 10 -4

beller · 16/11/2007 15:32

i feel like that too Amani.....what else can i buy? Have spent a fortuen this week....no ideas for a funky nappy bag?

beller · 16/11/2007 15:38

im off to Gaucho tonight for steak meal with mates......tomorrow im driving to Birmingham to see Take That! Then chilling on sunday!

Amani · 16/11/2007 15:38

Beller - with DD, I bought a medium-size-ish Ralph Lauren handbag from TK Maxx which I could pack some nappies, wipe and a bottle and few bits for formula feeding. Was really nice and trendy and didn't need a sperate handbag. For longer trips I bought a basic nappy bag to put everything in.

Mrs McJnr - putting feet up and doing nothing!

Amani · 16/11/2007 15:39

Mrs McJnr - feeling hot too - have put the fan on, which is annoying everyone!

Naetha · 16/11/2007 15:42

Weekend plans unfortunately involve living without a kitchen for a bit longer, comforting the cats who are terrified of my stepdad! Comforting DH who's coming down with a cold, trying to communicate with my stepdad (who has the communicative ability of a doughnut), shopping for wallpaper (anyone know where you can get plain coloured non-textured wallpaper?) filling in holes in our soon to be nursery wall, taking our old kitchen to the tip.

For some reason I'm in a bad mood now as well - don't know why

I think beanie making concerted efforts to escape, but through my upper abdomen isn't helping. If he'd got the direction right, I'd probably be in labour now!

MrsMcJnr · 16/11/2007 15:49

Beller - sounds like fun I haven't investigated change bags yet, think my sis is buying me one

Naetha - can see why you are maybe not the happiest about the weekend plans!

mixedmama · 16/11/2007 15:56

I love the Gaucho places.... we have been to the one in Chelsea a few times... super duper.

So bored... fed up.

Another event in the long life of the temp I work with.

She has been only putting down 30 mins for lunch instead of an hour - fine if they dont mind, I could do the same.

But she just said to the supervisor that she has been taking an hour for lunch and using her breaks (15 min morn and 15 min afternoon) to mean she only putssdown 30 mins. But we are paid for our tea breaks anyway and dont factor them into the time sheets.... so effectively she is getting paid for that time twice and getting 2.5 hours more a week, but supervisor ddoesnt seem to have noticed that we get paid for the breaks anyway. Peed off now.

Naetha, I kow you are not feeling funny but that last comment about your beani getting the direction right had me pmsl .

So where in all this is a time and space for you to rest and be by yourself? You have to find some!!Escape to the bath or Starbucks or whatever.

My beanie had hiccups when I sat behind my desk and I can feel he is not such a beanie anymore, brute force involved. Current favourite move is hammering something (head?) down on pelvis while simultaneously trying to push a leg out through the top of my bump. It does stop me in my tracks, but also stops me worrying

madmouse · 16/11/2007 16:02

My friend had a Samsonite Sammies changing backpack looking like a giraffe. I loved them and I bought myself a penguin one see one here

Not everyone's cup of tea but I am more a sporty than a stylish gal and I love it. One of the few things I bought new. Comes with changing mat, bottle holder and lots of pockets plus strap to fix to pushchair.

MrsMcJnr · 16/11/2007 16:03

My beanie likes tickling me with its fingers I think, an odd scraping sensation

mixedmama · 16/11/2007 16:16

madmouse... i love that. i have to buy a bigger one to accomodate two children but havent ventured there yet.

beller · 16/11/2007 16:29

Naetha - can see why youre not inthe best of moods! Hope you get some "chill out" time over the weekend xxx

I am still getting that heavy feeling in pubic region...coupled with a puffy "down below"...whats all that about

Plus still got itchy skin...not scratching all the time, but enough to annoy...no rash or bumps though..

Madmouse - That is a mad bag!! xxx

Mixedmamma - that temp really is a pee take!!

amani - cool idea! HAve seen loads online now..and cant make any decisions.might wait until im off and actually go and have a look at a few xx

beller · 16/11/2007 16:31

mrsmcjnr - enjoy NCT! IS this your first one?

MrsMcJnr · 16/11/2007 16:36

Yup first one, there are 4 other couples but what's the betting that one of them is DH's Ex and her man!?

madmouse · 16/11/2007 16:46

Beller, take it you don't like it then . Its bill squeaks when squeezed (discovered that by accident). Does that make it even madder?

beller · 16/11/2007 16:59

it is possibly one of th emaddest bags i have seen! hahaha made me smile...

Hope there are some nice couples Mrsmcjnr! And none your ex!!!

Naetha · 16/11/2007 17:00

Don't worry Madmouse, even when I get miserable I manage to retain my somewhat bleak sense of humour

Doesn't help that DH is being grumpy at the moment - he doesn't get on particularly well with my stepdad, and due to a combination of being a geek and being lazy never gets out in the sunshine, so his SAD effects him even more!

Ah well, off home soon
