Yak indeed! Why a cannula, Loopsy?

RG, your work sound fantastic! I want to work there too! You get to play on the Net a lot and you get fab pressies etc.

I'm having a bad day because I went to see midwife this morning - it's the replacement one again because mine is on holiday still. Anyway last week she thought lo was breech and went on about c-section. Today she couldnt say that because scan showed otherwise but unfortunately scan also showed head was deflexed in a certain way which the sonographer said would be fine but she said meant the baby would definitely turn OP. She also said from palpating that baby felt long for my size and she thinks I wont cope with labour and will need an epidural on arrival at the hospital. She was really negative, saying labour will be really long, you're small, the baby isnt tiny [though she doesnt know how big it is - I asked] and that I will need monitoring all the time and definitely no water. I came away and cried - I know that's stupid and I know there's every chance everyone will want an epidural but I just felt that she had set the scene for a horrible labour. When I left she said 'good luck with the labour because you're not going to have an easy ride' and that just made it worse. I'm 38 weeks now and tired and overemotional, and not sleeping, and that felt like the last straw. Is she definitely right about the head (it's engaged but deflexed) definitely indicating that baby will turn OP in labour? I can't find anything on the web.

Sorry to moan - it's just I felt like I was doing well, and the sonographer said that lo was sitting just fine, and I feel as though I've been bashed on the head!

LK2boyzma · 17/10/2007 14:48

For those of you who have been watching 'bringing up baby', did you know that Claire Scott will be at the Earls court baby show this weekend? Well that's if you live in or around London! This is your chance to get some answers for all the frustration she's put you through!

RGPargy · 17/10/2007 15:14

Hi everyone.

Hi Flounder and welcome! I hope you'll be able to keep with us on here - we tend to chat alot. Mind you if you're "working from home" it shouldn't be too much of a problem, eh? Do you know if you're having a girl or boy?

LK - yeah they seem to have really made an effort, which is lovely! I know what those 48 hour days feel like. I was having them not so long ago too.

Loopy - yeah i suppose 37 would be ok, but i think as DS came at 37 and didn't have much of a sucking reflex, it's kinda put me off a bit. It might have been lacking because he was so poorly tho..... Nearly time for cake at work - bring it on!!!

Choc - work have been great so far. they even asked me what pressie i would like so i have asked for a baby monitor which is the only thing i could think of that was portable enough to get home too, without being too presumptious about how much money i'd have got collected for me! I didn't want to say "oh i'll have something that costs £100" just in case they only collected a tenner or summat!!

so sorry your mw was horrible! She sounds really really awful. What does it mean when the head is deflexed? Why does she think you wont hold out in labour just because baby's body is long? Surely once the head's out it gets easier doesn't it?! It did for me anyway! I'm sure someone with more experience in this sort of thing will come along in a mo, but honestly, fancy giving you all that negativity!!

LK - Apparently Clare Verity was uninvited from Earls Court recently because she's such an old hag contraversial.

clu · 17/10/2007 15:25

Wow so much chatting,
chocolate hugs for the bad midwife visit, dont know anything about it but I really wish they would realise how scary it is being pregnant and saying random things to make it worse does not help.

I was rescanned for my placenta previa today and it has moved slightly, so they are still not making a decision. They are so wishy washy. But since the last one the baby has not grown, they say it could be wrong measurements but Ive to be monitored at the Day Care Unit. Has anyone else experience of this?

mrsjetson · 17/10/2007 15:39

Hi - really you girls are just too quick for me to catch up with the last few days.....

Sparkly - sorry to hear about Callum - I hope he gains weight adn you can remove the tube soon x

Pixie - I see you have a planned induction soon - are you OK??? Sorry if I have missed something really important!!

Silk - glad (well not really) to hear you are having the same tightenings etc etc... My other 3 were no way near as exhausting! I went straight through without any problems - very very faint BH and bingo obvious labour straight away none of these false alarms adn panic stations every week!!

We're still in one piece - shame really!! 37 weeks today, wishing it was 40!! She is moving around so much it is ridiculous now - she must be too big for all of that business!! I have started drinking raspeberry leaf tea and will be daily consuming large quantities of pineapple fairly soon. However I think that I'll stop at the old 'natural' ways to stimulate contractions - that's positively the last thing on my mind!!!! Good God - do people not realise that is why we spend hours on here in the first place!!!!!

We have just returned from our last shopping trip - nothing major, just the last 2 things - the baby bouncer and the monitor! I just don't think that I can face anymore - which is a REALLY strange thing to say!!!!!

Feet up now for most of us xxxx

littleoldme · 17/10/2007 15:53

Choudru - Glad all is well. I was beginning to think I'd have to eat your slice of cake.

RG The lunch dates are great. the only prob is I get back and have to have a nap. I thought the house would be tidier once I was off work but I simply don't have the time dahhhling. We saw Madam Butterfly and it was gorgeous.
Hope you have splendid day. your wok mates sound fantastic.

Welcome Flounder, more the merrier.

Chocolate. Poor old you and what a vile old bag of midwife you saw. Will you see your regular one next time?

I've been and picked up my material for the nursery today. It's gorgeous!!! Now I have to work out how to use the sewing machine and figure out how to make a blind. It can't be that hard surely

Saw MW today. I asked her about weight gain as I'm not worried about being overweight once baby arrives but I don't want to be unhealthy now and have already put on three stone She said it was probably all the lunches. Well a girl has to have pleasures.

Re the whole Claire Verity thing - it makes me sad than cross. Babies are babies. if you want something predictable that can be easily programmed get an effing flat screen TV. I thought having kids was supposed to be enjoyable.

Right - time for a nap or I won't make it to the end of deal or no deal.

Flounder78 · 17/10/2007 16:22

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone.

Thought I would tell you a little about me etc. I am 35 weeks today with my second. I already have a wonderful DS who is 3 1/2 and just started nursery school. I currently have Wednesdays off and was looking forward to a couple of hours this morning to myself. Well, dropped Ds off at school and before i had even got down the road I got a call to say he had been sick! He was fine and didn't want to come home but he had to bless him.

With DS I had Cholostatis so had to be induced at 36 1/2 weeks. After 4 days and being shattered I ended up with a section. I am praying for a VBAC this time. As this will be my first time going full term etc I don't know whether to see myself as a first timer or a second timer iykwim.

I too have a vile MW so know what you are going through Chocolate. MIne tends to rush every appointment and dosen't give me chance to ask anything. To say good luck you are going to need it was well out of order and not at all what any mother wants to hear.

So who is due first? Am I the last with 21st or not?

JARM · 17/10/2007 16:30

Afternoon all,

hope you are ok, im not doing too well to be honest, keep getting very hot and feeling faint, and then feel sick. Also pains in my lower bump are making me stop for breath, but there is nothing regular.

Its all a bit weird for me is this - im only 34+2 but feel like someone up there wants me to go early!

My dad is adament i will be lucky to get to November, but i cant have this baby in october - im just not sorted enough - the girls bedroom is still a decorating nightmare and the girls are camping out in the nursery!

On the plus side - cot bedding girls - Babies R Us have got some fab discounts online, and their delivery is pretty ace - ordered on Sunday recieved today.

Im off to try and calm my evil children.... Jessica (3yrs old) has decided that its great to throw tantrums over nothing!

Flounder78 · 17/10/2007 16:53

Oh must check out Babie R us. Dh has got some vouchers from work to spen there.

BTW I forgot to mention earlier that I do not know what I am having. I like surprises!!

SparklyGothKat - 25 Sep (8 Nov) BOY - Callum Eden

fiona76 · 17/10/2007 17:05

JARM- I had lots of painful and uncomfortable BH contractions yesterday that lasted about 3 hours very weird but normal I think my sister had it on and off for 4 weeks and as I'm 36 weeks that makes sense. It makes it seem more real though like things are starting to happen.

DH birthday today so I've cooked a roast and made him a cake so feeling very domestic goodess. I got him a fishing rod which he loves but now needs to learn how to fly fish.

I hate negative comments like the awful MW made its hard enough trying to keep positive without that rubbish. Stand up for yourself!!

Hope Callum is ok today. Thinking of you guys.

JARM · 17/10/2007 17:23

Thanks guys, Im trying to look after myself a little better, but its not easy with 2 little ones, and an invalid husband (bless poor DH, he does try and help out as much as possible, but im a grumpy moo who thinks its never good enough, especially when pregnant!)

I know i just need some decent sleep really, havent slept properly for days, and so keep trying to catch up during the day which then leads to not sleeping at night again.... i really cant win!

Sorry, I know im grumpy - i really shouldnt post when in this mood, but i think DH is a bit sick of hearing it all now! After all, he has NO IDEA how it feels!

iris66 · 17/10/2007 19:24

Hi all (and welcome Flounder )

Well i'm all set now I've even got me a girdle (excellent tip Choudru and so glad you're back with us ) Actually it's not quite a girdle. I couldn't justify spending so much on one of those bespoke post natal ones so went into M&S and got a "rib to thigh" bodyshaper (£35 - much more reasonable I thought). I bought one a couple of sizes bigger than my pre pg size (the elastic's incredibly strong!) so hopefully it should give me some support afterwards.

ChocolateHobNob - for you. I think they become blase dealing with pg women all the while and forget their bedside manner! There seems to be a rash of insensitive professionals around us at the moment doesn't there

JARM - rant away hon - you must be pooped Is your sugar ok btw (I go like you describe when mine's too high) Hope you have a better night tonight.

RGPargy - hope you0're ahving a wonderful night out and enjoy your lie in tomorrow.

Loopy - thanks for the pep talk I actually feel quite calm about it all at the moment (interesting if I'm still in the same frame of mind this time next week though eh )

JARM · 17/10/2007 19:30

Hi Iris - thanks for the support. I think its my sugar levels being too low if anything - im not eating very well at all, and started to feel better after a handful of jelly babies

Im feeling all hormonal again, just want to sit in a dark room and cry! I will be ok though, ROLL ON DUE DATE!!!

RGP - YAHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO last day today! Hope tonight is good fun, cant wait to hear all about it tomorrow after you have had a lie in! (i am so jealous.... my girls will have me up at about 6am!)

sparklygothkat · 17/10/2007 19:43

anyone thinking of using washable nappies should check out the tommeetippee site they are selling off all their prefolds and wraps, I spent lots on there earlier

Weight in day tomorrow, fingers crossed that Callum has gained something.

JARM · 17/10/2007 20:00

SPARKLY!!! Ive just spent £30! You are a norty norty girl!

Hello Flounder

Jarm - rant and cry on here anytime you want to - that's what it's for (extra support)

Chocolate - yr mw sounds like a b*tch. what sort of comments are they to make???

Mrs J - perhaps you and I will be on a post natal ward together after all. But you have to hurry up cos I'm hoping to be early

empen · 17/10/2007 20:11

Can I be added to your list. I am booked in for elective c section on 6th November. 20 days and counting. Am getting impatient and frightened!

sparklygothkat · 17/10/2007 20:15

JARM, I spent over £100 I brought size 1 and size 2 nappies, and wraps.

jetgirl · 17/10/2007 20:25

Chocolatehobnob - Don't mind you asking at all. I suffered a 3rd degree with my last labour, and that was after an episiotomy, so MWs are being cautious, particularly as DD only weighed in at 5lb 8oz. This one appears to be much bigger, so we don't really want to risk worse tearing this time round, and all the horrors that can bring. I did heal well last time, and truth be told I would much prefer a natural birth (I felt so bloody amazing after the last one that i didn't realise how horrible the damage was until I was taken to theatre!)
You sound like you're having a pretty rubbish time with your replacement MW ; it's annoying not seeing the one who knows you, and more importantly knows how to talk to a pregnant woman! I'll let you know what mine says tomorrow - if this one's breech a c-section is so likely, and I know I'll cry about that. It's the worst time to be hormonal isn't it?

Glad you had a nice weekend Choudru.

RG - your workmates sound lovely, and Sarahloumadam your students are so sweet. A couple of mine bought a soft toy for this little one, I was so touched.

Welcome clu and Flounder!

Kayla - hope the next couple of days are ok for you, and glad you'll have DH with you.

Here's a an odd thing. Has anyone else had any nosebleeds recently? I've had 2 in the last week, always first thing in the morning, and it's really unusual for me. Is it a pregnancy thing, or me just being weird?

Suppose I should go and clear up the tea-time mess now...

JARM · 17/10/2007 20:27

Sparkly - ive got SO many nappies now, so i bought the £18 size 2 set, a few wraps and 2 ofthose waffle bags....

cant wait til he's here to start wearing them though! (although disposables for the first week or 2 - meconium - YUK!)

empen · 17/10/2007 20:35

For those of you that have just bought tommee tippee stuff can someone explain what the nappy pads are. Do you have to wrap them up yourself and pin or do they go on like diposables with velcro. sorry but I am new to this and there are so many different reusables around!
