@laura1348 I picked up a new car a couple of weekends ago and drove it down the motorway on my own. I was surprised at how quickly I got used to it! It's really different to my old car I've been driving a '99 corolla with a cassette player for 12 years when I passed my test so it's really different and I was nervous about it but it was fine once I got going. Just try not to worry! I did have a panic though when it started yelling caution at me when I'm doing 70 on the motorway, I had no idea what it was on about thinking my engines about to fail or a wheel fall off, then I get home google it and it's a speed camera alert 🤣

MooseWL · 12/08/2020 10:59

@shiningstarz ooh lovely! I've got a haircut booked for tomorrow not been done since October I cannot wait! I have really thick hair and it's stopped falling out since I got pregnant which is apparently a thing so it's even worse!
Just had a lovely spa break my pregnancy massage and swim were dreamy, but the spa is in an old mill and it was the hottest place on earth. Our room was basically a sauna 🥵🥵

MooseWL · 12/08/2020 11:02

Has anyone used the TENS machine previously when giving birth? I'm in 2 minds whether to bother.

LatteLover12 · 12/08/2020 11:04

I hired one from Boots with DS1 @MooseWL

I used it at home in those early hours before I went to the hospital. It was okay..I kept taking it off to go in the bath though!

Laura1348 · 12/08/2020 11:32

@MooseWL
Thanks very much. I think it's just I'm
So far gone and massive!
Thank you
Xx

ChipsAreLife · 12/08/2020 12:23

@Laura1348 I've always driven up to when I've had mine and with my first that was beyond 41 weeks! I find it fine. In fact I drove Christmas drive when I was 40+10. I've never had issues being close to the steering wheel and my bump isn't small. Maybe adjust your seat position? I've just driven 30 mins to hospital and back and was fine. In fact I loved it because of the air con ☺️

Thanks for all your well wishes on the GD test.

@ShiningStarz I'll pick your brain if it's positive for diet tips! @annie1994 Yes it was the tummy measurement that was almost off the scale 😆 Had blood test this morning, get results later today hopefully. I think it'll be fine and that I just make big babies!!!

When I went in I mentioned my swollen feet, and that I felt a bit rubbish and had a slight headache and reduced movement. They hooked me straight up to be monitored. Everything is fine and she said it's likely the heat. But she wants to me keep a close eye and go back if I've any concerns. But she said keep feet up and move around when possible and keep cool (how?!) drink loads of water etc. But they always want you to go in if you're worried.

So just go in if you're concerned at any point!!

@MooseWL the pampering is lovely!! Enjoy yours tomorrow !!

@ChipsAreLife I feel the GD has really made me think about what I eat, how much I eat and how often. I'm definitely all bump and if I hadn't of been diagnosed with GD I would have certainly been 2 stone heavier by now!!

Had my 36 week appt today, consultant really happy with everything and baby is 5lb 5oz and placenta and all functionally normally. He just said keep doing what I'm doing 😊 my induction booked for my due date and I'd be kept in as soon as the pessary goes in as I am classed as higher risk with the GD. All in all I'm feeling good, I definitely don't grow big babies !!

Emmy2020 · 12/08/2020 13:41

Had my midwife appointment today she wanted to check my urine again so have to go out in this horrible heat in a min to drop off another sample. She says not to worry but I definitely have some sort of infection and I also have to be checked for diabetes so when I go for my scan tomorrow I have to go across to be shown how to to the pinprick thing every day so they can check, he said it might be nothing but they want to check.

ShiningStarz · 12/08/2020 14:08

Hi @Emmy2020 the pricking the finger isn't that bad at all, sounds worse than it is. I'v been pricking 10 times a day for the last 8 weeks !! If you do have to prick and your unsure about it all just say xx

Emmy2020 · 12/08/2020 16:41

@ShiningStarz Ah thanks Hun, I’m not too bad about thinks like needles when someone else is doing it, not sure how I will feel doing it myself but I guess I’ll just have to get on with it!
Ugh this heat, I’m just melting! My husband had the sprinkler on at his work so I just stood in it. Was soo nice! But hot again after a few mins. How’s everyone else coping?

OrDis · 12/08/2020 17:41

@Emmy2020 I took half a days annual leave today so I could nap because the heat is making it so hard to sleep. I literally havent moved from the sofa all afternoon and have a fan pointed directly at my face. It is grim. I really hope it thunders later.

WillowT · 12/08/2020 17:54

The heat is terrible!! Although we now have thunder and rain so hoping it cools down to sleep tonight. I was so unproductive at work today and not sure half my emails made sense!

Re the tens machine...I have been lent one but haven't investigated how to use it etc. I'm feeling very unprepared for the labour! However, most of the stuff we need has now arrived, except our pram so chasing that at the moment.

Hope everyone is doing okay, esp those with GD and blood pressure concerns (sorry can't remember all!!)

Not long till we meet our little ones now!

Lilice · 12/08/2020 17:56

Im working from bed with the fan pointed at me, the heat is making my limbs swell too much so im trying to stay as flat as possible. Never thought I'd say that but i cant wait for the rain!

Emmy2020 · 12/08/2020 18:42

The only time I feel nice and cold is after a cold shower but the cold feeling doesn’t last long enough

ChipsAreLife · 12/08/2020 19:46

We had a good rain dump at 17.30 and it's cooled the air right down. So nice!!! Upstairs is still roasting but there is a breeze so hoping by bedtime it's not 28!

@ShiningStarz ah exciting sounds good. Pessary got my contractions going in about 45 mins! Fingers crossed for you! Yes well done, I've been eating carbs as quick and easy and I've gone off so much food! Oh that's lovely. My chunk was measuring just under 7lbs yesterday but my other two were big so I just make big babies!

@Emmy2020 hopefully nothing to worry about but good to check. Hope the scan goes well tomorrow.

Hi everyone! Had a busy week with lots of appointments. Have been told I have gestational diabetes but its reassuring to see others on here have it as well.

Can I ask how it has affected your birth plan? Do the drs want to induce early? Are you able to still go in the midwife led unit? I'm so worried about how it's going to affect the birth! Have asked my midwife to do a sweep at 38 weeks and she said she would with written consent from the consultant, who I'm seeing next thursday.

And yes the heat is horrendous! The bedroom seems like the hottest place in the house!

Hope everyones getting on ok!

UrsulaSings · 12/08/2020 21:13

Oh and @MooseWL I have ordered a TENS machine. I used one for back pain in the past and it really helped, so ordered a maternity one for birth. Thought there was no harm in trying it! It was only £25 to rent for 6 weeks.

Emmy2020 · 12/08/2020 22:45

@ChipsAreLife Thank you 😊

MooseWL · 13/08/2020 06:06

Thanks ladies think I'll look at hiring a TENs machine! Anything that helps me stay at home as long as possible has got to be worth a shot!

ShiningStarz · 13/08/2020 06:20

@UrsulaSings sorry to hear of the GD diagnosis. At least not long to go now.
I'm on insulin and have been past few weeks, our little one is measuring fine at 5lb 5oz (36 weeks) and not the expected big as with GD.

Therefore they are letting me go to 40 weeks but planning to induce me on my due date. I asked at my appt yesterday for sweeps. My next appt is In 2 weeks (38 weeks) & I hope to get booked in for sweeps from week starting 1st sept (39 weeks). Hopefully I'll go naturally before planned induction date!!

Have you had a scan yet to assess size of baby?? Generally that's what could affect how far your allowed to go..

ShiningStarz · 13/08/2020 06:27

@UrsulaSings I asked yesterday about water birth at home from home unit and they said no! Baby would need monitoring due to the GD and I am classed as higher risk because of it. I was told up to labour ward for me straightaway and apparently there is a pool available and if it's free and all going ok I might be able to use it.

Emmy2020 · 13/08/2020 14:27

@ShiningStarz So got my fingerprint machine today, have to do alternate 4 times a day then 3 times. Did one go while I was there, actually doing it was fine but my finger has tingled all day, forgot to ask but do you know can it be any finger or the same one? Wow glad I don’t have to do it 10 times a day like you! X

ShiningStarz · 13/08/2020 14:45

Any finger is fine, I alternate the fingers or sides of fingers @Emmy2020 make sure you wash your hands and they are dry before you test. Do you test before and then 1 hr after eating?

Emmy2020 · 13/08/2020 15:13

@ShiningStarz Thank you, one day I do tests 1 hour before food the next day 1 hour after and alternate.

LatteLover12 · 13/08/2020 18:17

Is anyone else utterly exhausted? I've barely moved from the sofa today & I keep falling asleep! I'm so tired 😴 💤
