Berrybliss - I wasn't told anything about NHS classes - but maybe that's because I already have a DS. Mind you, they didn't tell me anything about them when I was pregnant with him either.

I guess we just must look like the kind of women who naturally know everything without needing to be told!

NCT classes can be very competitive to get on as well unfortunately and I don't fancy your chances at this stage. Is worth enquiring about though - you do have to pay but they have a sliding scale depending on income etc.

At the coffee morning today a couple of the women were saying they couldn't get a place on NCT classes even though they tried booking as early as 13/14 weeks pregnant. One of them was given options of ones in local towns - 30 min drive away. Which isn't really ideal considering half the point of attending classes is to meet other mums due at sae time as you for post baby meet ups. Another was given option of a weekday morning class which isn't any use if you're working!

I guess I have been lucky to get some 10 mins away.

Forgot to say in last post that I have been asked to do the whole GTT thing that so many of you have had to go through. Good job I know what to expect thanks to your reports

Have to fast from midnight tonight and go in for the morning tomorrow. Will take a good book with me since DH has the day off and can look after DS. Am quite looking forward to a morning off to read a nice book actually.

By the way - was it jetgirl who mentioned mint choc chip muffins? Or were they cookies? OMG - I would kill for a taste - please give us the recipe!!!

RG - when littleoldme and I eventually get round to meeting up for cake - we'll definitely send you a virtual donut (it may be half eaten but you have been warned).

Geek - I think DH last saw a birth at school and wasn't looking forward to seeing another one particularly. But thankfully our NCT teacher said she doesn't show them but gave us the latest NCT mag which has a DVD of a couple of births for those people who want to see them.

I didn't get told about antanatel classes at all this time, guess they thought I didn;t need them, even though its been 6 years since I had a baby and 10 years since I had any classes. I was told about them at 32 weeks, but haven't bothered even trying because I will not a place now

sarahloumadam · 24/09/2007 19:15

Evening all . Going to have to copy off some of you and start making notes as I read! Just quickly signing in as I have some lesson prep to do for tomorrow. Littleoldme hope your lesson observation went well.

Thanks for all the top tips re maternity wear. I am going to go online and have a look at all your suggestions and treat myself this weekend. Could just do with a couple of things to see me though (the fashion for smock tops has been fab for us pregnant ladies but my smock tops are now starting to look fitted!).

Morethanmum - there is a thread re sleep (brain not up to links at the moment) called "No sleep" or similar and one top tip I am going to try is some tranquility tea by Dr. Stewart. Can't wait for my mat leave naps!

Berrybliss - we are moving four weeks before the EDD too! Are we brave or stupid? Not that I had much of a choice really but I would rather move before than after. Good luck!

Had loads more to say but can't remember - feeling really vacant today but feeling quite cheerful about it . Speak to you all soon.

littleoldme · 24/09/2007 21:26

Berrybliss - welcome to the thread - you go easy with that paint scaper now.

Thanks for info Choudru - will check e-mail

Have good night one and all - I'm off to do some work.

silkcushion · 24/09/2007 22:22

Hello Berry and welcome.
Girls - I am finding it impossible to keep up with you all. So this is going to be a random mishmash of comments floating through my brain.

Anna - hope yr tests etc went ok

Location -I'm in Gloucestershire

NCT - started last friday. 7 couples in the class and 3 of us due on the 7th. 2 on the 8th!!! Was quite good fun actually even DH seemed to enjoy it. He didn't want to go cos he's already got 2 children and thinks he hasn't got anything to learn. In fact he even said on the phone to his ex wife " yeah I know but it's not for me is it? I'm going to support her" Is that me being an irrational pg woman? I wish his ex wife hadn't suddenly decided to become all friendly (she's been a bitch for 18 months). She said to him tonight on the phone could she have a picture of Megan when she's born??? WHY? and then she said if she happened to be in Gloucestershire (she lives in devon) could she come round and see the new baby? This is the woman who tried to ruin our wedding last year and left abusive answerphone messages for me calling me a c**t who was trying to steal her kids!!! Yes I'd love her to pop over for tea and biscuits and a cuddle of my new baby.

DH didn't know what the hell to say. He doesn't want her to but also doesn't want to upset his kids.

Very sorry no idea where that random rant came from - didn't even realise I was pissed off until I started.

Note to self - calm down silk. Get some sleep and wake up as a rational normal human being again

aikigypsy · 24/09/2007 22:51

It's been busy in here today. My new job is all right, but seems to make my heartburn worse. I think I get the heartburn from standing up too much? Anyway, I heard that it means the baby will have lots of hair. If DP is anything to go by, that will certainly be true of mine!

Re: Stretch marks. I read/heard somewhere that they're usually worse in younger women. I guess older skin has a bit more give? Less collagen? Anyway there have to be some advantages to having a baby after 35.

Hello Berry, too.

RGPargy · 24/09/2007 22:54

Evening everyone.

Have been watching TV whilst laying on the sofa and have started dozing off so I'm going to take my sorry [immobile] arse off to bed now. I'll catch up with you tomorrow when i'm at work, seeing as i seem to have all the time in the world to surf the net while i'm there!!

n'night everyone!

jetgirl · 24/09/2007 23:00

AnnainNZ · 25/09/2007 01:07

Mint choc chip cookies sound goooooooooood...

Doctor got back to me about the repeat urine test. She's spoken to the specialist at the hospital and the decision at mo is that although there is still protein showing up, I don't need to be in hospital at moment, just total bedrest at home and get in touch if any other symptoms of PE appear. Have a growth scan tomorrow and need to go back to dr on Friday to do the tests all over again.

So good(ish) news... meanwhile, house is a bit of a mess but I have the perfect excuse not to do housework now!

AnnainNZ · 25/09/2007 02:05

Oh and I've just noticed that the "Birth announcements" section has 981 threads so far, which means that one of us may possibly be the 1000th person to announce a birth on Mumsnet! Or it could be one of the October ante-natals.

Jeez, you can tell I really do have a lot of time on my hands at the mo...

ChocolateHobnob · 25/09/2007 06:52

Hi all

Berrybliss, if you can't get on NHS/NCT classes, try googling your hospital - mine offers separate hospital classes for new parents including tours, etc, as well. So worth trying if you don't get anywhere with the others.

Silk, I can see why you're mad!!! I wonder what motivated the about-turn. Maybe she just wants her kids to be happy... I guess you have to just take it as it comes and try not to worry too much in advance. Easier said than done when we're all hormonally turbocharged!

Anna, glad you don't have to go into hospital. Bedrest can't be that bad - it does at least avoid the housework! Hope you've got loads of books and so on.

Aiki, standing up a lot tires me out too. I haven't had heartburn at all though - bald baby for me?!

Here I'm just trying to get through the week. Back to the mw tomorrow to check my bp and ensure I've been taking it easier, but to be honest I haven't, really. I tried over the weekend but there's a limit to how easy one can take it in a busy week at work. I'll try valiantly today though!

Hope you're all okay!

Sorry girls, looks like I might be leaving you all soon, have been having contractions every 10ish minutes since 8am, going to have a bath and hope they stop, but if I am not about, I'll get Misdee or Lisad to update you.

AnnainNZ · 25/09/2007 09:57

Good luck Sparkly...hope all is well

FCH · 25/09/2007 10:05

Oh wow - SGK, sounds like your little one is on the move. I really hope this is a false alarm, but have a feeling you know what you are up to this time around. Good Luck...

Silk - that would drive me nuts too. When My DH and I started living together his ex-wife and her best friend were really freaky and stalkerish about the whole thing and kept phoning up at weird times and really making life uncomfortable for us both, and then suddenly a couple of years later decided that they wanted to be friends. DH thought I was being really unreasonable when I said that over my dead body were they coming into my home, but then there are no children involved for us which does make it a lot easier. In any case, I for one don't think you are being unreasonable to be uncomfortable about it, and your DH ought to try to understand your point of view even if it is a very difficult situation because of his children. I would also be irritated if he was discussing me with his ex at all, but perhaps I am a bit of a control freak

sparklygothkat · 25/09/2007 10:55

have had a show now. So scared..

RGPargy · 25/09/2007 10:56

Wow it doesn't pay to go out of an envening its taken me an hour to catch up with all the posts.

SGK- Good luck!!!

Berry- welcome!!

I have had a lovely morning with a sleep in. Coffee in bed bought to me by DH, phone chat for an hour to a friend I haven't talked to for ages, then a my breakfast in bath with my plate resting on my bump. Bliss.

Talking about stretch marks. Yes definately you either get them or you don't. I got my first stretch marks when I went through puberty and now have got more as my bump has grown. Never mind they do fade over time.

I'm starting my NHS antenatal classes in 2 weeks. They are during the day, can DH go? I want him to and he has flexible work hours so he can come but not sure if he will be the only male there?? My friends NHS classes were female only, except for one.

Floanna · 25/09/2007 12:39

Good luck SGK - how very exciting!
