Add me! Due 9th November, boy x

geekInPigtails · 24/09/2007 14:30

Ooops - posted this on the last thread without refreshing to see choudrou's post about the new thread!

Yeah apparently how likely you are to get stretch marks is genetic - my mum doesn't remember getting any, and so I've not had any either! Still, I think some people don't get them until they're actually in labour, so not counting my chickens yet...

Feeling a bit miserable at the mo, coz I came down with a nasty cold last Thursday, so I've basically done nothing but blow my nose for the past 3 days and now I've got a sore throat And somehow the heartburn is even worse than normal - gaviscon only helps for about 15mins, so I've had such trouble sleeping

Oh well, not too long to go now - I'm 34 weeks, and I stop work next Monday! So at least then I'll be able to start having naps in the day if I need them Bliss.

Loopy - Devon

Floanna · 24/09/2007 14:34

Good call Choudru!!

GIP - Have you tried asking your GP to prescribe you Peptac for your heartburn? It is a lifesaver!

Pixiefish · 24/09/2007 14:35

Signing in. The gaviscon tablets actually make me sick- I can only take the liquid. I've been funny on them for a wee while but the otehr morning they really made me ill.

RGPargy · 24/09/2007 14:36

Gaviscon liquid is FAB for me! I'm lucky that ive not been getting heartburn too badly, quite mild really, so just a couple of spoonfuls does the trick for me.

Pixiefish · 24/09/2007 14:41

I'm not that sophisticated Rg- I just glug it from the bottle

RGPargy · 24/09/2007 14:45

lol Pixie. I used to do that too, until i found two medicine spoons in Asda for 50p! Gaviscon tastes foul from a metal spoon!! My little handbag sized bottle gets glugged from tho.

Floanna · 24/09/2007 14:51

Lol - must admit I've definitely been known to glug from the bottle, and in fact I decant some of it (prescribed 500ml glass bottle!) into a small bubble bath bottle and swig out of that - I'm sure people think I'm swigging out of a hip flask!

fiona76 · 24/09/2007 15:14

Thought I'd add myself here as I am a late coming.

RGPargy · 24/09/2007 15:15

Sorry Fiona, didn't realise you'd been missed off the list!

fiona76 · 24/09/2007 15:21

No probs I've only discovered you lovely ladies about 4 days ago so I hadn't read back as far as the list.
My heartburn is a kiler at the moment might ask for that pep stuff at docs this week. I hate the liquid gaviscon but it works quite well. I chew rennies fruit flavour they only work for about 2 mins so pretty ineffective.

Floanna · 24/09/2007 15:38

The Peptac's not that bad and you can ask for it in peppermint or original (which is aniseed) so many a flavour!!

AnnainNZ · 24/09/2007 16:11

Just posting to get this on my threads I'm on list. Up at 3.15 am (now there's a surprise) so back off to bed now.

I had heard that the stretch mark thing was mainly genetic. I asked my mum and my sister if they ever got them (they've both had 4 kids) and they didn't, so it looks like my family may be lucky.

berrybliss · 24/09/2007 16:38

Hi all i've just spent 2+ hours reading through past posts and have decided to join as all you ladies seem so lovely and give good advice and support. I'm expecting my first baby on the 18th of November (little boy). I'm so excited as well as being really nervous.

I'm the first of my friendship group having a baby (being only 20) so often find myself on the internet typing in random questions and worries. I think this site is an amazing idea.

as for location (Poole, Dorset) i'm currently moving into my first house with bf. We completed last Thurs but moving date is the 16th of Oct, 4 weeks b4 i'm due!!! I've been trying to help by painting and scraping artex of the ceiling(prep for plastering) but have now realised that
A. i'm not that good at it and B. I dont think paint fumes and dust are the best environment for a pregnant lady. Plus i have really sore stomach muscles now from the scraping movement!

well thats a little about me.

RGPargy · 24/09/2007 16:48

Hello and welcome BerryBliss!! I have added you to our huuuuuge list!!

Hope you like chatting, coz we tend to do a lot of that on here! We are a friendly bunch so if you do have any questions, please dont hesitate to ask, either on this thread or on any of the other relevant forums - someone always knows something somewhere.

choudru · 24/09/2007 17:16

Hello people,

I am back after a nap - DS is still napping so I'm using the time to chill out.

Chocolatehobnob - I am munching some choc hobnobs as I type Unfortunately I have only had 2 and I feel full! I feel cheated.

Little and Sparkly - congrats on your sisters' babies. Is lovely being an auntie - all the fun and none of the hassle.

I have spent half an hour catching up with the past few days posts and now my mind is a big mushy mush so I can't possibly even start to comment on all the things I wanted comment on. Sounds like everyone is in quite goos spirits anyway - at least we know the end is in sight so any niggles are temporary (to be replaced by all the niggles of being a new mum but lets leave that to our postnatal thread!)

A meet up would be fab. I don't mind driving either since did a lot for work. We might have to divide the country into 2 though and have a southern one and a northern one if that is better for people.

I say we all get round littleoldme's for lasagne and I'll have something veggie please little. Preferably with lashings of rich creamy cheese sauce on it. Mmmm....

Sparkly - I'm sorry to hear about your friend. My 2 best friends in the world I have known from uni - so we've been mates for 13 years. We've never ever had a cross word between us (well nothing serious) in that time but recently they came to stay and one of them got stroppy with me because I had a charity fair to do one of the days she was staying. It really upset me because I had warned her beforehand, given her the option of coming along and given her some leaflets of places to visit around where we live in case she wanted to occupy herself while I was out etc etc. Plus it was for charity. To cut a long story short, we had an arguement on the phone while I was at the fair, I burst into tears while DH tried to comfort me, came home to sort it out and both me and friend burst into tears. We kind of talked it through and she left the next day with no apparent hard feelings.

However, although we have been e-mailing and texgting as normal since then, I can't put the episode out of my mind. I feel very hurt and seem to have taken it all to heart which is not normally like me. I am hoping it's hormones making me more sensitive and that things will return to normal soon.

It's not worth throwing a friendship away for hon - you don't get true friends that easily so I would suggest just being normal with her on the surface and give yourself time to forgive her. It will hopefully be a distant memory soon and you'll be glad you didn't fall out.

I think the reason I still feel weird with my friend is because I haven't seen her since (she's in London) but I'm sure that when we next meet up, things will fall back into place.

On a happier note - we went to our first NCT antenatal class on saturday. It was great for me because last pregnancy I missed out due to DS arriving before they started. It was very informal and very informative - tghe other couples seem nice and friendly. DH was a star - very involved - adding his tuppence worth and asking questions. He seemed to enjoy mixing with the other dads and seems quite eager for the next one

Ara - any progress with booking something for you and DP?

Went to another NCT coffee morning today - about 8 mummies there this time but was just as easy going and friendly as last week. Got some good info on local nurseries for DS. Littleoldme - I have sent you the details if you want to come along.

DS up now so got to go. Will try to check in tonight.

DS has just tipped over a plant pot

geekInPigtails · 24/09/2007 17:26

Floanna, thanks for the suggestion about peptac, don't think I've heard of that one. My next midwife appointment is this Thursday, and I was definitely intending to mention it to her coz it's starting to make me miserable. So I'll ask her whether I should be seeing the GP for a prescription.

Welcome BerryBliss! Can't believe how many of us there are now - is this a normal number for a mumsnet antenatal thread do you think, or is it the Valentines Day effect? We've got almost every day in Nov covered!

Ooo, on the class front, had a class last week all about waterbirth, so not only am I convinced it's what I want, DH is too! We also got to have a look at one of the 'normal' birthing rooms in the mw-led unit, and one of the rooms with a pool in it, so feeling a lot more prepared. AND, they showed us a fairly short video of a lady giving birth in a pool (had me in tears ), and I only found out afterwards that that was the first time DH had EVER seen a birth video! He said "I'm definitely going to cry, if that's OK" - bless him!

sparklygothkat · 24/09/2007 17:35

choudru thanks for your message, I know that it will be ok on the surface when we next meet up (she moved to Scotland last year) but it will take a while to get over it. I was in tears thinking that she wouldn;t want to know when I have the baby, or be invited to her wedding, pregnancy hormones were playing a huge role in it all I know.

Anyway, today has been ok, DS2 is still inside me (another day yah!!) but did have a contraction (just the one) while walking fast in the rain earlier after dropping the kids at school. I have to walk slowly atm, but it was p*ssing it down, so was walking a bit fast and had one huge contraction, must remember to keep calm and take things easy.

berrybliss · 24/09/2007 17:55

I know i was suprised to see how many people who were due in November!

geekinpigtails you live in southampton which isn't that far from Poole!

When do birthing classes start? i'm 32 weeks and becoming uneasy as i have no idea what to expect! I don't feel that we are educated in Britain enough about pregnancy and birth. luckily i've read allot of books and pregnancy Magazines which have made me feel slightly more informed!

I've read that waterbirths can speed up labour as the mother is more relaxed, but have been told that they can't gaurantee the waterbirthing pool being available at the hospital.

I think i want as natural of a birth as possible just gas and air! but who knows i may change my mind as i have no idea what sort of pain to expect. Just that it really HURTS! but i feel that i have a high pain threshold!

geekInPigtails · 24/09/2007 18:19

berrybliss - well if you're after NHS classes, you may be too late if you don't know about them already. I had to fill out a form to say which ones I wanted to go on which I was given at my booking-in appointment at 9 weeks. I got letters back to say when my classes were somewhere around 12-14 weeks I think - I hear they can book up really early. But there are usually NCT classes available which you have to pay for, but you may find it easier to book onto at late notice.

I'm a first-timer too, so all the following is just stuff I've been told, but... waterbirth is a great way of improving your chances of getting a natural birth. The water and warmth relax you mentally, and physically relax your muscles, both of which mean that you will probably experience less pain and that your uterus will be able to work more efficiently. The availability of pools does vary from hospital to hospital, but I'm told it's pretty unlikely there'll be a queue at my hospital. If you REALLY want to have a waterbirth and it sounds like your hospital may not be able to provide it, the only way to guarantee it is to buy or hire a pool yourself - there are a couple of other people on this thread who will be able to tell you more about that than I can!

berrybliss · 24/09/2007 18:41

hmmm... I think i better book an appointment with my widwife asap to see what direction i go in. They've never mentioned it and i just presumed it was too soon to ask. OH NO i'm really worried now...........
