How do I go about having the flu jab? My midwife didn't mention it.

I work with children and they can be particularly germy.

Easterbuns1 · 25/01/2019 09:11

Morning all, glad to hear there's been another couple of positive scans in the group.

I find my symptoms come and go so I wouldn't worry too much, although tbh and without sounding negative when I had my mmc my symptoms continues until I had medical management so I'm not sure if symptom spotting is that helpful anyways, well not in my case anyways.

MyBreadIsEggy · 25/01/2019 09:12

I’m trying not to worry, it’s just so hard not to when 12 weeks is still so far away!
Anyone know if they routinely test hcg and progesterone levels in the normal bloods taken at your booking app?

Karigan195 · 25/01/2019 09:13

I just found the dr said I was pregnant and got an appointment

Megan2018 · 25/01/2019 09:14

@PastaSauceHoarder
I was told to ring GP surgery and say that I had been asked to have it asap by the MW at my booking in apt. They booked me in for the next available slot (was a week away).

My booking in apt was 2hrs long and I walked out with a stack of info - they have been thorough! I guess it is not the same everywhere - the team by me seem to be relatively well staffed though and not under too much pressure. This might be because we are rural and demand not as high.

Megan2018 · 25/01/2019 09:18

@MyBreadIsEggy
They don't at mine no, my notes give a list of what is being tested (as I had to give consent to each) and that's not one of them.
It might not be the same everywhere though.

I am 6+5 and had virtually no symptoms yet. No sickness. Sore boobs to start which grew especially my nipples (and have gone browner), they are still slightly sore but nothing much. A couple of twinges and a phase of feeling very weak and shaky.
Now I feel absolutely normal.

MyBreadIsEggy · 25/01/2019 09:25

Megan
The fact that you had sore, exploding boobs that have calmed down is making me feel a little less like a crazy person.
I had a few little twinges yesterday but nothing that made me really concerned.
I’ve found out about this pregnancy much earlier than my last 2. I didn’t find it about DD until 5 weeks, and DS until 6 weeks, and then the symptoms came about a week after each. So maybe I just found out about this bean a bit too early and now I’m panicking for no reason!

TwittleBee · 25/01/2019 09:28

Yeah that is what I think about symptom spotting Easterbuns1 I was still throwing up with morning sickness a week after the ERPC - I had symptoms until a few days before I got a BFN.

I think all we can do is hope that our babies are growing well.

stroan · 25/01/2019 09:41

Sorry to hear you are so worried @mybreadiseggy I do think it would be worth mentioning to your midwife - maybe they could refer you or do the blood tests as an exception?

The worry is awful - symptoms or no symptoms.

Flu jab - I made an appt straight after my booking in and had it the same afternoon. I meant to pay for one in Oct/Nov anyway but forgot. I’ve had flu and swine flu and will do anything I can to avoid getting flu again - it’s not a cold! Having had it also meant I could see my Grandfather in Critical Care before he passed away - the ward was rife with flu and the nurses didn’t want to let me in at first.

BBell2 · 25/01/2019 09:44

Place marking. I would like to find out this time, we didn't last but OH won't. Would be nice to sort out the zillions of girls clothes I saved!

MyBreadIsEggy · 25/01/2019 10:08

I’ve just taken another test - and both lines appeared almost instantly as soon as it touched my pee, so I guess hat means my hcg levels are high enough right? 🤷🏻‍♀️

Karigan195 · 25/01/2019 10:31

We definitely want to find out. Both of us are planners rather than surprise me types but we won’t tell anyone else :)

boodles101 · 25/01/2019 10:53

Booking appt arranged this morning for 5th Feb, so looking forward to that now.
Had a pretty sleepless night thinking I could feel cramps etc but was probably just me imagining it. Only the tiniest bit of brown discharge this morning but again probably wouldn't have noticed it if I wasn't checking constantly! Also felt slightly bleurgh before breakfast too.

porge123 · 25/01/2019 11:03

Hi guys! Didn't realise there was another thread, Thankyou for all the well wishes!!
Had internal scan early this morning however they could not see/find anything. Was told not to worry as it may just be because it's so early.
Although I agree it is still early it's a horrible feeling to think there is nothing there! Hopefully there will be something there on next scan (next friday)..

TwittleBee · 25/01/2019 11:07

oh shit porge123 Sad that is so bloomin worrying and hard not to think about! Really hope that it is super too early for them! Hope this next week flashes by for you Flowers

OP posts:
Easterbuns1 · 25/01/2019 11:25

@porge123 I really hope the week passes quickly for you and it's good news at your next scan. I think sometimes having a scan so early can add more stress because you aren't always going to see something.

@boodles101 glad it's calmed down. I'm hoping I get passed the obsessive toilet roll checking stage I'm sure it can't be healthy!

Karigan195 · 25/01/2019 11:29

Chances are high it’s just too early Porge. Be positive and hopefully everything will be fine in a week. Particularly if it was an external scan!

TwittleBee · 25/01/2019 11:41

urgh really feeling rough today - sickness has well and truly kicked in! just everything tastes awful too

OP posts:
Fortheloveofscience · 25/01/2019 11:50

Same here TwittleBee. The problem I’m having is that I’ll eat something once, then feel sick and not want it again. Now have ruled out most food in the house other than toast, porridge and ready salted crisps!

TwittleBee · 25/01/2019 11:55

oh no dont Fortheloveofscience those are the 3 foods that I certainly could not think about eating at all, especially toast! Awful though isnt it? I have well and truly gone off all breakfast foods.

OP posts:
Fortheloveofscience · 25/01/2019 11:57

Oops, sorry! I seem to have anti-morning sickness so I’m ok first thing then sicker in afternoon/evening which I think is why only breakfast foods feel safe. Whole thing’s bloody odd.

TwittleBee · 25/01/2019 12:01

yeah that is a bit similar to me but only because I avoid food at all costs till about mid-morning Fortheloveofscience otherwise I would be sick. But by mid morning I start feeling hungry so I try to eat but it all just looks so gross! Only thing I like right now are apples! Any chance you could have some toast mid-afternoon to try and help you avoid the sickness developing later?

Easterbuns1 · 25/01/2019 12:20

I feel crap today too and I'm supposed to be going out for lunch today. Totally emosh too I'd be better just getting back into bed!

stroan · 25/01/2019 12:32

Also have a small list of foods I could tolerate. Once I find something I’m ok with eating or drinking, I have too much of it and then can’t handle it anymore. Toast with cheese spread is still safe though, so always have a back up.

DD and I are having a PJ today as she had a tummy bug last night. I have to say that a wriggly three year old being surgically attached to me is doing nothing for my nausea, stomach pains and general fed-up-ness.

I know it’s an amazing blessing to be pregnant but I feel so crap I’m struggling to see the joy in it today
