Morning all. Great idea, I felt awful yesterday being so excited about my scan, but knowing that others had had such dreadful news. I do hope they can join us back on these boards soon.

Canadianmum - I've got my booking in appointment on mothers day too!!! I have to go the the Balham health centre though, at 11.30. Will have to dash off to my parents afterwards for big mothers day sunday lunch! Lucky you to be at home, I guess that's only fair with two little girls around!

I still keep looking at my scan pictures in disbelief, I still can't believe that little person is in me!

I hope everyone is well and happy. It's a lovely day here in London so I'm off to enjoy the sunshine!

canadianmum · 09/03/2007 10:24

Fiofio - I take it that your first language is not Bengali???

When I had my boys prematurely, I met another woman who gave birth 8 weeks early and her baby almost died (he is fine now). In her notes, they had "reason for prematurity - mother's alcoholism"!!!! She had never had a problem with booze and not touched a drink her entire pregnancy. Just a reminder to everyone to check their notes occasionally.

Hello on the new thread!!!! I'm 12 weeks on Sunday, and have got a DEFINITE bump, absolutely no hiding it. But then I've read that 3rd pregnancies 'bump out' a lot sooner! Anyone else finding this?

I've already had comments about how big I am already and 'ooh have you really put on a stone, that's A LOT' Urrrrrrgh.

Probably like a lot of you lovely September ladies, there was probably a bit of weight gain over Christmas, then got your BFP, so the extra weight is a given really . I love Christmas!!!!

mrsmar - my appt. is there too (I think - must check my diary for the address). Definitely not at home anyway unfortunately. And I have 2 boys, not girls, although I would happily swap them for 2 sweet little girls some days .

I know this has absolutely nothing to do with pregnancy, but I've just given an interview on a local radio station about accident statistics!!!!! My husband was knocked off his motorbike in November by a hit a run driver and they interviewed me back then aswell.

Ooh I feel all funny now, nervous.

Oh my DH, he is SUCH a hero. He was really badly injured, he was VERY VERY lucky not to have been killed, he was doing 70mph when he was knocked off. Stupid crazy BMW driver was swerving in front of cars and slamming the brakes on- trying to cause an accident. One of the cars the BMW did this to lost control and swerved into DH's lane when he was coming past on his bike. Unfortunately, apart from multiple severe fractures he's suffered a paralysis to his arm. We don't know whether he'll get any function back, it'll take 2-3 yrs before we know.

I suppose it is kind of linked to pregnancy. It was the accident that made him re-evaluate things and he changed his mind about have a 3rd child, he adamently refused to consider it before.

So every cloud......

Holly29 · 09/03/2007 11:46

We have decided to tell MIL and FIL tonight, despite the scan not being until Tuesday as we are actually getting to see them (they live far away). Am quite nervous about their reaction - DH is their only child - but hopefully it will be OK. Has anyone had odd reactions from PIL?

MrsMar · 09/03/2007 11:47

Hi canadianmum - sorry, don't know why I'd got it in my head that a) your appointment was at home and b) you had two girls!! Dur, pregnancy brain!!! What time is your appointment? I'm at 11.30.

Gosh hopeitwontbebig, what a horrid thing to happen to you, I hope your dh's recovery continues!! I too have a wee bump, but this is my first and everyone keeps saying I shouldn't be showing yet, so sucking in tummy like a demented woman!! You're so right about the Christmas weight, despite working on Christmas day and Boxing day I think I overcompensated and now I'm paying the price!! Thank God the nausea is pretty much gone and I can go back to my normal diet without needing to shove biscuits and salt and vinegar crisps down my gob every 20 mins to stop myself being sick!!!

MrsMar · 09/03/2007 11:50

Good Luck Holly, I'm sure it'll be fine. My dh's parents were really great, our children will be their only grandchildren, so they're really happy. FIL has always saying he can't wait to have a grandchild to spoil and my MIL said it brought a tear to her eye when she saw the scan pictures we emailed her (she is divorced from FIL and lives in Cyprus)

I'm sure no-one can fail to be excited about their grandchildren.

xx

Hopeitwontbebig · 09/03/2007 11:56

Let's unite and stick our belly's out with pride

It's funny/annoying how people think now you're pregnant you're public property for a) staring at bump b) touching bump c) commenting about weight gain etc, anyone want to add to list??

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH

Hopeitwontbebig · 09/03/2007 11:58

Holly, I was really nervous about telling my PIL, and avoided the phone for weeks and weeks. My DH told them and they were really pleased, phew.

Good luck and I'm sure they'll be really happy for you.

nh101 · 09/03/2007 12:04

Holly, my PIL were great about the baby, it is their first grandchild and their daughter (my DH's sister) has been trying for two years with no luck, so I think they are trying to be sensitive - we told family and close friends as soon as we found out but my FIL said we shouldn't have told me grandparents, which I thought was odd. Like they wouldn;t be able to cope if I had a m/c... anyway one of the grandmas died four weeks later so I am so glad I told her - her friends at the funeral said she'd been so pleased (even though it would have been her 15th great-grandchild ) After I told her she said "Well I'll have to stay alive now". She was 93 and always convinced she was about to kick the bucket - such a character and sadly missed.

MrsMar · 09/03/2007 12:17

Hopeitwontbebig - I can add to that, people who tell others you're pregnant when you'd rather tell them yourselves in your own time. I can name and shame my boss in that category as well as my FIL who told my SIL before dh had even got a chance to call her up!!! ARGHHHH!!!!! Mind you, I did have a really cheeky conversation with someone at work who's wife is expecting the same time as me (I told him myself, got in before my boss did!!) he winked at me and said "who's been a busy girl over Christmas then?" EWWWWWW!

Hey NH, I'm glad you got to tell your grandmother before she died. My great aunt died a few weeks ago, and I hadn't told her, which is sad, but I told her sister (my grandmother) at the funeral, and it made her day. It was her birthday yesterday (87) and she's even talking about her 90th birthday party now!!!

Hopeitwontbebig · 09/03/2007 12:25

MrsMar. This is funny, I'm reading your post thinking ooh me too me too!! When I was pregnant with DS2, I told a work colleague who then spotted my boss in the car park, she actually RAN out of the office (I'm watching all this going on!) over the car park and told him before I had a chance to even blink!!!!!!!!!! What's with that!

NH I also had a similar experience with my dear dear Nan. She was going through chemotherapy and my Mum told me not to tell her yet as it might upset her. I told her when I was 8 weeks on her 80 birthday, she was sooooooo happy, it breaks my heart because when she asked when it was due she shrugged and said 'oh well I won't see that then'. She died when I was 13 weeks. I'm so so so glad I told her before she became really poorly.

nh101 · 09/03/2007 12:28

I'd be so mad if my PG got spread like that. I thought it was like an unwritten rule that you let the mum/dad tell before 12 weeks (when they might not want everyone to know) and then after that it's open season! People are so annoying sometimes!

MrsMar · 09/03/2007 12:53

Tell me about it, I hadn't even had my scan, I was furious!! Now of course I don't mind at all, although I would still rather it wasn't all over the place until I was super super sure it was all ok (birth? after the first year? when he graduates university?)

nh101 · 09/03/2007 14:40

Ha ha, I know MrsMar, I had a scan at 10 weeks and everything looked fine but now I am worried cos we couldn't have conceived when they say we did cos we didn't have sex all week. I know it can be a day or so out and perhaps there was just sperm hanging around from the last time we did have sex but as I didn't have a period after I came off the pill I have no idea when I ovulated so I can only go off the scan. I actually thought I was nine weeks so when they said 10 I was pleased, but then I thought what if I'm 11 and the baby is only measuring 10? Daft I know but you will always worry (and when they are born it gets a million times worse). We have another scan three weeks today but I just feel like I haven't had the 12-week "all-clear" yet as we have to wait another three weeks for another scan (even though I am 12 weeks next Tuesday off the last scan)

Holly29 · 09/03/2007 15:03

Thanks guys, I'm sure it will be fine - and anyway, as he's their only son this is the only grandchild!

Hope, you are SO right. My Mum is coming down to see me in a few weeks and she said on the phone the other night 'I can't wait to touch your bump' (after I told her I finally had a mini one) and I thought YUK NO WAY! It's weird how people think it is appropriate just to be allowed to touch - I never behaved like that, one of my best mates was pregnant last year and I once asked her if it was OK to touch and would never have dreamt of just doing it!!!

MMooMar · 09/03/2007 18:11

Hi Guys,
Parents and pil,They are all the same anyway, they will love the grandchildren and you and DH/DP will no longer exist. They may just about remember to ask how you are(love em really).

Hope you lot are ok today, glad of the new thread ,seems right really.

Went for my dating scan today, seems I am 13 wks today not 12+1 as I thought so my edd has changed to 14/09,unless this one decides to come early too.Telling family and friends tomorrow armed with the scan pics

I have amended myself on the list.

Hi everyone,
Thought I'd finally pluck up the courage and join you. I've been watching in since the beginning. Sorry to those who have had such sad news. My thoughts are with you.

I'm due 10th Sept so 13 1/2 weeks at the moment according to last weeks scan. I'm 31 and have a 19 month old daughter.

It's great knowing others are experiencing the same things so thanks for all the support this threads given me so far.
