Due to recent sad news and at the suggestion of others, I have started this new thread. Let's hear everyone's news.......

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
atalantis · 12/03/2007 13:00

Hello all, and welcome to all the new additions to the list. It's very good to have a new thread -- thanks for organising it, canadianmum.

DH and I have just come back from a weekend in Paris (we've decided to go away to grown up places as often as possible a) while we can still afford it and b) while we don't have baby in tow). Was absolutely delighted to discover that all shops in Paris are stocking fantastic smock style tops and empire line dresses. I bought some beautiful clothes which I hope will get me through most of the pregnancy (this is my first, and I'm still not showing at all, so I hope that they'll last a while!). It was great to be able to go shopping in non-maternity shops for maternity-friendly clothes. The only downside to the weekend was attempting to avoid pate/goat's cheese/brie/undercooked meat in French restaurants -- nigh on impossible!

HammerHeadShark · 12/03/2007 13:49

Hello ladies

All the best to those of you having scans in the next couple of days and have fun getting to see those lovely little beans

MrsMar - big sympathy for the nights - they are pants aren't they? Mine are coming up this week and chocolate is the only way to endure such ridiculous working hours. I'm sorry you are being so pressured about not gaining weight, which seems a bit unfair as we are actually supposed to gain some weight whilst nurturing and growing these amazing little lives inside us. My midwife seemed much less fussed than I was about the prospect of gaining weight and said she found loads of women had massive carb cravings and to go with it, within reason ie wholemeal/granary bread, pasta, rice etc rather than doughnuts and cakes! So I felt better after that and am trying to eat sensibly but with a bit of treaty-ness thrown in too.

Hope you are all well and starting to bloom??

Chattyhan · 12/03/2007 14:59

Hi all.

I've had a very busy week. My 12 wk scan was on tues and all is well despite early problems. i've actually caught up with my dates and am back on track.

Wed was my 25th Birthday and on fri dp proposed whilst we were away in Devon!

Wow what a week!!!

Generally feeling better and less tired and definately showing. I'm in my maternity clothes which i do think emphasise the bump but people were noticing and commenting!

Emalushka - i've had a simular issue with a friend who miscarried last week. We both had appointments at the epu on the same morning. My news was good and hers was bad. I feel guilty and whilst i want to be supportive i feel like i'm rubbing her nose in it!

Holly29 · 12/03/2007 15:25

Chatty,

That is great news! Congratulations... How exciting. 2007 is obviously your big year! Am so pleased your scan went well too.

LoopyLouLisa · 12/03/2007 15:59

Hiya all,

had a busy weekend trying to spend as much quality time with ds1 before he gets ousted by new baby!

I am definitely fatter this time and have been in mat clothes for a couple of weeks. was ok when i thought i was 18wks but dating scan last tues showed only 14/40 and now I just feel really fat!!! On a positive tho, I've found that a really famous auction site (not sure if i'm allowed to mention the name on here ) extremely useful and a great source for clothes. I have bought 4 bundles for an average of £25 each incl p&p and now have over 50 items for around £100. absolutley fantastic on my tight budget. There are only 3 items in total that I wouldn't wear. highly recommended!

Have also been really lazy by doing grocery shopping online, but i remember the later stages last time and not being able to reach the bottom of the trolley due to an enormous bump.

Welcome to all new mners and good luck to all of you who have scans coming up.#

EdieMcredie · 12/03/2007 18:20

Is anyone else experiencing period pains? Ive been getting them quite a bit over the past few days but they are quite mild and come and go. Not that worried just wondered if others had a similar kind of thing.

Still tired, and have awful sciatica that is worse at night.

Oh and heartburn!!

xxxxxxxxxxx

LoopyLouLisa · 12/03/2007 19:19

Hiya EdieMcredie,

I get pains like that usually just before my tummy has a growth spurt! But sometimes if my trousers are too tight I get pain all around my middle and lower back just like period pain. If you are worried please do call your midwife. They wont mind and it's better to check it out, and at least it will put your mind at rest. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful.

Nicki10 · 12/03/2007 20:26

Evening all

Well I had my nuchal scan today and all is well. I didn't faint from the blood test which is a first so I am very proud of myself!. Although I have bruised really badly now.

My Nuchal rate is 1:20488 which the midwife said was good so we are very pleased.

It was amazing seeing the baby he had grown so much from my last scan and you could seen fingers and toes he kept rubbing his nose and sucking his thumb which was amazing to see!. Can you tell I'm smitten already!.

By the way I am saying he but we don't know the sex yet. The midwife said it was too early to be able to tell. DP is convinced it's a boy and it's weird just calling it a baby now.

Good luck to everyone with their scans tomrrow and the rest of the week. I have my midwife appointment tomorrow.

sophus · 12/03/2007 20:34

Edie - i get period like dragging pains every now and then. Sometimes i use a hot water bottle just to make me a bit more comfortable - although i do try and avoid boiling the baby alive! i don't know if it is heartburn really but i burp constantly - very sophisticated.

PurpleLostPrincess · 12/03/2007 20:35

Hello all,

I too am nervous about my scan tomorrow - hope it all goes well for everybody!

Edie, I've been getting awful period pains too and back ache. I got the same with DD so I'm not too worried, hope you feel better soon.

I've been feeling sorry for myself today and my list of ailments seems to be getting longer but I'm hoping it means baby is growing well. Congrats on getting engaged Chattyhan (assuming you said yes? ). Are you able to tell us that website Loopy? I'm dying to know!

Looking forward to checking how everybody gets on tommorow...

MrsMar · 13/03/2007 02:04

Evening all (or should that be morning all? I dunno, all confused)

I hope everyone's well, good luck to those having scans today. Keep us posted!

Well my cold has got worse, if that's possible. The sinus pain is so bad I want to tear my nose off! Have been steaming like a crazy woman and taking paracetemol but in vain, still hurts like crazy. Still, at least I won't have any blackheads!! Had to call NHS direct tonight as I was really worried about having a raised temperature, I don't have a thermometer, but I thought I might have a temp. They reassured me the baby would be fine.

Nicki - those are great stats from your nuchal, congratulations!!

Edie - I do get period type pains every now and then. I've been telling myself they're normal so long as they're not too strong or getting stronger. Sometimes I feel a mild burning sensation in my lower abdomen, and it feels hot, I guess it's just all that extra activity, as the doc didn't seem to concerned when I asked her about it.

Holly - I would love to stop nights, it's hard to judge how bad they're making me feel because of this horrible cold. The thing is I get paid extra for doing them, but I guess my health hasn't got a price. I'll just have to spend a bit less! Mind you, that's if I can persuade the boss to let me off nights, she's obssessed that everyone should do them as "it's not fair if some people do them and others don't" Needless to say, she doesn't do them!!!

Hammerheadshark - It is horrible to get pressured about weight, but I'm kind of taking it in my stride. People can say what they like, I'm pretty confident of losing any extra I gain before I go back to work, and anyway I'm going back to a really physically demanding job, so any remaining poundage will soon drop off!

Anyway, I'm off to fit in a sneaky nap!!! Have a lovely day everyone xx

EdieMcredie · 13/03/2007 08:24

Oh im glad others are getting similar pains to me! It does seem to coincide with my tummy getting bigger so hopefully its just growing pains.

Good luck with scans

My next isn't until 30th April xx

spraklynewthing · 13/03/2007 09:33

Hello to All!

Feeling very good today. Had a brilliant girlie weekend with my sister. Went to Bluewater for some light retail therapy. Got some lovely (and cheap) maternity essentials in Dorothy Perkins, New Look and Marks & Spencers. Loving M&S Limited Collection Maternity range.

Edie - I am also having more crampy pains in the bump area. I think it must be growing pains as the bump is definitely increasing daily!

MrsMars - totally sympathise with being bunged up. Had horrible sinusy cold for last two weeks. Head felt like concrete! Much better know though.

One not so good thing at the moment is my skin - I am sooooo spotty. It is terrible! Have decided to go to GP. It is not all vanity, they actually ache. Apparently you can get an antibiotic cream which is save to use in preganancy. Might chat to him about that.

Have a lovely day, wherever you are!

honey2theb · 13/03/2007 10:34

TinaLC · 13/03/2007 12:25

Hello all

Haven't posted for ages as I don't have access to Mumsnet at work. However have been reading everyone's posts and keeping up with all the news.

Can anyone else advise me if their morning sickness did disappear quite suddenly. I am 11wks and 4 days now so at the tail end of all of you Sept ladies and I suddenly feel better just yesterday....this is making me very worried rather than pleased. Scan not until a week today at 12 1/2 weeks so can't really do anything about it but if anyone experienced the same might put my mind at rest. I should be grateful really as have been feeling "unable to get off the sofa" dreadful for about 6 weeks.

Thanks!

EdieMcredie · 13/03/2007 12:26

Honey I thought you had already joined?! I thought I recognised you and you are on the stats aswell!!

LoopyLouLisa · 13/03/2007 12:54

Hiya MNers

TinaLC- My ms did go suddenly too, but i still get the odd day of feeling queasy, especially if i let myself go too long without eating. I think I had a couple of weeks where the sickness was every couple of days instead of constant but please don't worry. apparently it's all to do with the placenta taking over from you directly supplying the baby at around the 12 week mark. this is the theory given to me by a few professionals anyway (still don't quite understand why some people continue to get it for much longer tho if this is the case???)

Has anyone had more than one previous c-section? I had one with my ds due to being fully dilated for 10 hours but still no baby then baby started to get distressed. I am still undecided about the birth of this one especially as I couldn't bear to go through pushing for so long again if my efforts are gonna have the same result.

Spraklynewthing- glad i'm not the only spotty em but obv not good news 4u. they're getting everywhere making me feel even more unattractive than having an extra large tummy

atalantis · 13/03/2007 13:22

Hello all. I've not been having period type pains, but I do find that when I sit down quickly I get a pain similar to the kind I get during my period -- as though everything down there's a bit bloated.

On a different note, I was wondering what kind of reactions you've had from work, if you've told them you're pregnant. I wrote to my boss on Thursday to tell her and I've not heard a word back from her. She isn't terribly supportive at the best of times (I'm an academic researcher, and when I wrote to her to tell that I'd got my PhD she didn't reply) but I was just so cross that she could ignore this. DH keeps telling me to ignore her back, but I'm finding myself furiously angry about her lack of support. Perhaps it's my pregnancy hormones. She hasn't been actively hostile towards the pregnancy, but I do feel that in a male-dominated profession a bit of female solidarity and encouragement wouldn't go amiss.

Holly29 · 13/03/2007 14:10

I had my scan today, and am delighted to report that all is well! They said that my risk of Downs is 1:6000, so less than a teenager, and they are 75% sure it is a boy... I almost cried with relief! I'm not as far along as I thought I was, so am rejigging the list...

honey2theb · 13/03/2007 14:49

lol Edie, so i have!! i cant remember joining tho! must be my preg brain!! Must have been ages ago then! i feel stupid now!! hehe!

Nicki10 · 13/03/2007 15:26

Brilliant news Holly!. It's such a relief isn't it!. You know the sex as well that's amazing I'm very jealous.

I just did something very naughty! I had my midwife booking in appointment and she made the appointment for my 23 week scan which would of been the end of May. The thing is I'm going to the baby show on the 12th of May and wanted to know the sex so I could by nice things in the right colour!. So I told the midwife I was on holiday and she brought it forward to the 11th May! . Is this an awful thing to do? Am I a terrible mother already?!

Holly29 · 13/03/2007 15:44

No, you are not going to be a bad Mum at all! That is a completely normal thing to want to do... They so weren't going to tell me the sex today until I asked, so it's always better to ask!

LoopyLouLisa · 13/03/2007 15:48

Nicki- no you're not a terrible mum I lied at my booking visit when I was pg with my ds. as policy in this area is not to scan until the 20 wk mark, I told the midwife that I had no idea of my dates/lmp just so that they would scan me!!! A few years ago a doc told me I would never be able to conceive naturally as I have severe pcos and I couldn't believe that i was truly pg until i saw the baby on the screen. I had 9 scans in total for that pg and each time I told the sonographer that I didn't yet know that sex and could they please try to tell me. i really wanted to be sure! however, as i'm sure you are aware, if the baby has it's legs crossed it's really difficult to tell the sex. one midwife told me that to make the baby extra fidgety drink hot sweet tea in the waiting room and eat a couple of bars of chocolate as there is something in it that makes the baby move lots. oh well, even if it's not true it's an excuse to treat yourself

EdieMcredie · 13/03/2007 15:48

Sounds like a good idea to me Nicki
