Due to recent sad news and at the suggestion of others, I have started this new thread. Let's hear everyone's news.......

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Nicki10 · 13/03/2007 15:55

Fantastic Loopy that's what I'll be doing get me the biggest bar of dairy milk you can find!.

I did ask at my nuchal scan yesterday Holly but the woman just said you can't tell yet and your guess is as good as mine! and when I said please try she just looked mightily pissed off!

Nettee · 13/03/2007 15:57

Hi everyone - had my scan and there is definately a baby there - kicking and swimming around. won't get my risk result for another few days because they combine the results with a blood test. It was lovely to see him or her and know that all the first trimester misery has been worth while. Beginning to feel better too which is lovely.

They changed my dates too (only by two days thought they wouldn't if it was that close) so have copied the list again.

great to hear your good news too Holly - can't believe they can tell the sex so early. It is amazing isn't it. Nicki - I don't think you are naughty at all - if you don't ask you don't get.

will keep an eye out for the rest of the scanning news - good luck to everyone.

Hopeitwontbebig · 13/03/2007 16:43

Great news Nettee!!

I told the lady who was scanning me last week that I'd had a vivid dream the night before that it was a girl, she looked at me a little bit as if I was mad! That's amazing Holly they could tell, you're lucky!!

TOD, hope your scan went well this morning.

Hey Nicki, I'm with you on the whole scan thing. I'd have done the same thing

canadianmum · 13/03/2007 18:54

Big congrats to those who have had their scans, it is such a relief isn't it? And welcome to all those who are new to the thread, it is amazing having so many people in the same boat.

Atalantis, I went to France during my first pregnancy and it was a nightmare trying to order a starter in the restaurants there, esp. since I ADORE the cheeses and pates and even steak tartare - one of the first things I will eat after the birth is a big salad of goat's cheese and parma ham - YUM!!

I just can't stop eating at the moment, crisps and chocolate and greek salad are my current favourites.

In my first pregnancy at the 12 week scan, they told me that there was an 85% chance that both babies were boys and they were right! This time I am going for the surprise which basically means I have to buy loads of white and yellow until after the birth .

Hello everybody! I had my scan today and there really is a baby in my tummy!!! Having had 2 m/c's I was expecting the worst but I'm pleased to say we saw two arms and two legs and everything - we could even see the fingers!!!

DH is in shock but I'm pleased to say it had a good effect at first - we had to go pick up the kids afterwards but stopped off at home for a quickie

Can't wait for the 20 week scan as DH wants to know if its a boy or girl (this is our first baby together and he was told he wouldn't be able to father any children as he only has one... well, how can I word it, one testicle!). He's a bit more in shock now and he snapped at me on the way home but then he gave me a big hug and apologised. I've left him to get on with it on the computer upstairs so hopefully he'll get his head sorted out. (he suffers from severe depression).

Hope you all had a good day? I still feel knackered and fat and sick but at least I know what its all for now...

MrsMar · 14/03/2007 00:22

Evening all! Feeling a little bit better now, the cold is finally giving up it's grip on my. The headache is down to a gentle background throb, as opposed to the full on tear your face off agony it was yesterday! Glad to hear you're feeling better sparklynewthing.

Holly, that's great news about your scan. I still can't get over the utter amazement I felt at seeing the little person swimming around inside me!!!

Nicki - you're not a bad mother at all, what's a few days among friends?

Nettee and everyone else who's had scans in the past few days. Congratulations!!! Glad everything's all well!

Edie - I still get the odd cramping pain too, I'm glad to hear everyone else is too. It is a bit of a worrier, but I guess that it's normal.

laksa · 14/03/2007 09:56

Morning ladies,

Another lovely day

Loopy, Is it the sugar or caffeine in the tea/choc which makes the beanie dance do you think?

Nettee and Holly, glad your scans went well, I can't wait for next monday...I need proof as I now have no symptoms and it worries me. Does anyone know if it easy or a nightmare to park at Kings College?

Atalantis, maybe you should have a chat with your boss in person, she sounds like she is the type to only respond to emails which need an answer/solution.

My dh is in Milan for the week on business and I am really missing him , I am normally really philosophical and just make the effort to go out with friends etc but I am feeling really weepy that he has left me... last night I cried when a song we both love came on the radio and I was in the car and had to get out and go pay for petrol with mascara running down my cheeks, what is that all about Meanwhile my dh is in milan and says he keeps seeing loads of baby shops everywhere and is finding it hard not to buy something for the baby as he says the clothes are just so cute, I feel sorry for the work colleague he is dragging round these shops

Also have a dilemma, I own an mg which I love but obviously it is not practical, being a two seater, I need to get a new car with room for a pushchair etc. Does anyone have any recommendations for a really reliable, low petrol consuming car. I have a max of 8000 pounds to spend and am looking at second hand but don't really have a clue what I can get for the money...

Must dash for now,
Hope everyone is feeling springlike, don't you think this would be the perfect time to give birth, it is such an optimistic time with all this new life budding up.

xx

Hopeitwontbebig · 14/03/2007 10:10

Morning everyone, hope you're all well.

Laksa, re cars, I always find a good starting point is to log onto Autotrader, do a used car search without putting in make of car. You can put in maximum price, mileage, age etc. It will give you an idea of what make of car you can get for your money. You can then go onto Google when you see a car you like and get a review, I think WhatCar is a quite good website for reviews, or Top Gear, it'll give you an idea of fuel consumption and reliability. Good luck.

We're going to have to go for a 'van' this time having 3rd baby an all!! And big dog etc etc..

PS I had a reeeeeeeeeeeeally bad experience with a Citroen C3! Avoid. Sorry if there are any C3 'lovers' out there

laksa · 14/03/2007 10:28

thanks hopeitwontbebig, I had a look on topgear earlier but will try the autotrader search in a min. Never realised how incompatible our present setup was with a baby...but we have stairs with too wide bannisters so that children can fall through them, plus we live in a town house so need double the amount of babygates that a two storey house would need and I have a silly car which wouldn't fit a babyseat let alone a pushchair!

xx

canadianmum · 14/03/2007 11:09

laksa, haven't been to Kings for a while but remember that the spaces are tiny and the carpark is often full. We almost always managed to find a space though! Be careful if you park on the road as there is often one side that is OK but the other is resident's only. A friend got clamped by parking on the wrong side.

purple - congrats on your scan, that is great news, esp. after 2 mc's.

We are trying to figure out what to do re: cars as well. We might have to become a 2 car family as I don't really want to drive a huge car in the week, when it is just me and the children on occ. trip (we will walk to and from school). I will have 3 when this bubba comes and am thinking about getting front airbag switched off so I can put bubba in the front beside me. A friend does this and says it makes life a lot easier. So confusing!!

OP posts:
toadstool · 14/03/2007 11:27

Congrats to newbies and all the scans coming through!

Laksa, not at all as classy as an MG (and no doubt open to ridicule in some quarters), but I really like my Skoda Fabia - good size boot, can park where I like, OK petrol consumption, good price/safety record, seats come up clean of ice-cream/crisps/mud, etc.

Had my OSCAR scan this morning, and !phew! there's a tot happily wriggling about in there. Risk of chromosomal problems very low. After last year's missed mc at the same stage and a scare this week about the dreaded slapped cheek, I'm so relieved! Only have to tell my new boss-to-be tomorrow that I can't start with them in October after all, start doing sums to cover no-pay mat. leave, hmm, that'll be interesting...

laksa · 14/03/2007 11:48

toadstool, I am so over classy...just want a backseat Only got the Mg becos a friend works for british aerospace and was able to get it cheap for me and I was young and single (not planning on having kids for a while) and wanted to feel the wind in my hair...now I just want a bigger boot, funny how our lives and priorities change. Actually when I was doing some research earlier the skoda was in the top ten for either reliablility or petrol consumption...can't remember which. Oh, glad your scan went well I am nervous about mine as I keep thinking I could have had a missed miscarriage as I have read so many sad stories on MN where ladies have lost their beanies at this point

Canadianmum thanks for the tip re parking on the road will be careful which side I choose!

xx

LoopyLouLisa · 14/03/2007 11:53

Laska- I think its the combination of both but maybe both just make us feel good so we're more relaxed. also, with my last baby, if i hadn't felt it move for a while I found food/drink with extreme temperatures really did the trick. yummy ice cream...

we bought a car a few days before we found out we were expecting again and i have gotta say it's the best car i've ever had. i wouldn't have considered a renault or an estate until i saw this car (a laguna estate). the boot space is amazing yet the outside is sleek and not box-like at all. we bought it used on a 52/2002 plate for 6k and it's a diesel so really economical. we get away with about £20 pw. insurance group is low and it also has a 3 point belt in the middle seat and our britax eclipse stage 1 car seat fits perfectly in the middle (great for reaching behind you to give baby back it's toy/dummy/juice)but it has isofix too. there are LOADS of handy storage compartments and gadgets all over the car. if you want any photos etc CAT me and i'll do my best. i was really sceptical right up until i saw the boot!! and my dp is chuffed that it fits in the garage xx

Nicki10 · 14/03/2007 11:57

Morning All

Just!. Laska Kings isn't too bad for parking and there is a private car park which costs the same as the main one just by the pedestrian crossing. Noth many people know about this one so there are always soaces. I think mainly staff use it and we came across it by accident.

I know there have been many sad stories and I had a missed MC last prgnancy but be positive. I think thats all we can do, I have decided I have to let go of my worries as it's probably not good for me or bubba.

With regards to cars we want to change too and I want a new beetle. Maybe not the most practical car but it does have quite a large boot and lots of room inside and I still want a nice funky car that I'm happy driving. I want to go for the convertable but DP draws the line there!

nh101 · 14/03/2007 14:26

Laksa, you deffo have to get a diesel - they are so economical and very powerful these days, you can hardly tell you are driving a diesel. Toyotas are good - what about a Corrola, we have an Avensis and Yaris which are both excellent (Yaris is a bit small tho). My friend has an Astra (she's just had a baby) and she loves it. Plenty big enough for pram.

And agree with toadstool about Skodas - they are very good and quite cheap second hand I think because they are not so trendy. Made by VW tho so pretty reliable. I like them.

I would also recommend Autotrader, we got our last car from there and it was very easy and cheaper than a dealership.

You will deffo get a nice reliable car for £8K - diesels are more expensive but they are so worth it in the long run!

I have been feeling much calmer this week - just hit 12weeks so must be thinking I am home and dry! I had been sleeping bad (well, waking up at 6.30 and not being able to go to sleep again) because I have been a bit anxious but feeling calmer now.

I have another dating scan in two weeks on Friday - fingers crossed!

nh101 · 14/03/2007 14:27

And HOW long is our "due in Sept" list now??? Unbelievable!

Hopeitwontbebig · 14/03/2007 14:36

I know, there are loads of us aren't there. The week before my BFP I was watching something on tv about new years resolutions etc, and they said January is the busiest month for people trying for a baby ..... we are living proof

Cars - worth trying Ebay. We sold our Mini on ebay and got a great offer and loads of interest. You can always go and look at a car before bidding. I agree about Skoda, think they're losing their stigma. I've got a Peugeot 307 estate at the moment, that's been a pretty good car, will need to change soon, because we won't all be able to fit in it!

Also agree about Diesels, will be getting a diesel next time.

Hopeitwontbebig · 14/03/2007 14:45

PS I've just come back from having my hair chopped. Gone for a drastic change. NOW, in theory...... my DH should notice , I'll keep you posted on that one.

Hope the kids don't ask me to 'take it off' when I collect them from school!

Anyone else feel an urge to have a change of hairstyle when pregnant?? I remember doing this with my DS2, that haircut was a baaaaad one . Hopefully this time'll be ok, let's see when I've washed it and attempt styling it myself!

nh101 · 14/03/2007 14:50

I always thought I'd have my hair chopped into a bob (it is past shoulder length at mo) once I was PG, for convenience sake, but I read in "The best friend's guide to pregnancy" that it was a bad idea!

I think the book's theory is that as you get fat you think you need to do something with your appearance so you have all your hair chopped off but look even fatter!

I am sure that doesn't apply in early second trimester tho!

Still, I am going to wait I think (scaredy cat!)

Hopeitwontbebig · 14/03/2007 16:00

nh101 - he he, I've had a choppy bob cut, mine was same length as yours before by the sounds of it!! Hopefully I won't end up looking like a pin head on a big fat body!!!!!!

nh101 · 14/03/2007 16:19

I'm sure you'll look great

Hopeitwontbebig · 14/03/2007 16:48

Why thank you kindly

laksa · 14/03/2007 18:09

thanks girls, for all the advice re cars. Will think about diesel car as well. My first major accident on the road was caused by me putting diesel in my fiesta when I was 18

Nh101, I also read that in the 'best friends guide to pregnancy' Its not a bad book but has scared me a bit as it says the only sane way to give birth is to have an epidural

I'm sure your hair looks great, hopeitwon
tbebig' And if its a bob it will grow out in 3 months just in case you change your mind about short hair. I am looking forward to the bit when our hair is supposed to get really thick and luxurious...mine hasn't yet.

Out of interest how much weight have you guys put on in the first trimester? Sorry if too personal.

xx

laksa · 14/03/2007 18:10
