Hey @beard! Welcome. Sorry to hear you are not feeling so great. I too get frustrated time to time when I'm physically not able to do something I am normally able to do. I've been pretty stable on the hormone front, but I am going to Ikea today, so fully expecting an existential meltdown! Grin I am quite jealous this will be your 2nd baby as I feel totally clueless what to buy and how to care for a newborn.

boxesoffrogs · 16/07/2017 16:50

Anyone got any cures for heartburn? I am literally so so so uncomfortable here, it's made me throw up twice already. Midwife looked at me like I was mad when I asked for something to help on Friday...

Help?!

GimbleInTheWabe · 16/07/2017 17:16

Welcome bushybeard! Glad you like the ergo baby, I was going to ask is the newborn insert essential but guessing it is?

boxes I've also had horrible heartburn (my only 'bad' symptom though so don't wanna complain too much) and have not wanted to dose with anything. I've found it's worse if I eat anything too rich too late in the evening (like dark chocolate, boo) so I've been trying to be a bit healthier. Also if I go for a walk or keep a bit more active in the evening too that helps. Otherwise, small sips of water and just grin and bearing it Envy

boxesoffrogs · 16/07/2017 17:45

There is no grinning here. Just lots of moaning and clutching my chest and throat. This is bloody horrible. I am such a drama queen.

greatbigbushybeard · 16/07/2017 19:51

Get thee on the double action gaviscon tablets- had bad heartburn late on with my first & they were such a revelation!! Touch wood hasn't been too bad this time.

Ha ha Kat splat I have all those worries about the second- like am I going to remember what to do & how will I cope with 2?!! I remember having a huge panic when pg the first time- what if I'm no good at this, I don't know what to do with babies etc! Trust me, all was fine & all will be fine with you. They're learning & so are you. It's a lovely time.

Had a better day today. Enjoy your quiet time first time mummies, it's not quite the same second time round!!
Bushy xx

mummabubs · 16/07/2017 20:41

Second vote for Gaviscon @boxesoffrogs - I took some for the first time last night after discovering it's completely safe in pregnancy (confirmed on their website). The mint flavour tastes revolting, but have to say it did soothe my heartburn, so that's a win! 😂

doomkittycleo · 16/07/2017 22:36

@mamabubs the aniseed flavour gaviscon is better.

boxesoffrogs · 16/07/2017 22:46

Got the aniseed one. It's not bloody helping... ouch. This is really not very nice.

PingusMistress · 16/07/2017 23:22

I have terrible heartburn too, there was a thread on the pregnancy board a couple of weeks back called "Heartburn help" that was very useful. I can't figure out how to paste the link to it using the app, sorry! I found that those plain cheap chalky mint tablets were more effective than gaviscon for me, also proper hot chocolate made with milk. Baby has moved position this week and it has eased off. But if it gets worse again I will go to the gp.

Cath1212 · 17/07/2017 09:37

morning everyone, I hope you all had good weekends!

feeling a bit down this morning and letting it out on here, I hope thats ok... I am really struggling to sleep at night, with pain in my hips, I have tried everything I can think of. Is it it worth speaking to the midwife? It's getting me so tired and that and the hormones are not a good mixture!
My other half has also done his back in, and is really struggling, so cant do much around the house and is having to rest. Feeling really sorry for him, whilst at the same time feeling a bit low and sorry for myself

boxesoffrogs · 17/07/2017 13:27

pingu I think I started that thread! Lots of good suggestions though, from you lovely lot and from the other thread.

Feel a bit better today (well I don't feel like I have swallowed sulphuric acid anymore!), but just shattered and tummy hurts from being sick. Luckily my line manager was very good when I asked if I could go home this afternoon, so I am going to try and have a nap, and see if I can get a GP appointment for later in the week chance will be a fine thing.

Sorry to hear you are feeling down, cath. Rant away! Strange isn't it how pregnancy is meant to be this amazing and magical time, when actually the reality of it couldn't be further from that. Feeling physically unwell, emotionally and mentally all over the place, etc etc etc. Where is this 'glow' that we are supposed to get, eh?

Cath1212 · 17/07/2017 14:07

I am sure people are suffering much more than me, I just wanted to have a moan! may need to try and fit in a nap when I get home from work to at least top up on sleep a bit

sorry you are also feeling rubbish. It is a nice support to know we are all in the same boat

definitely no glow here - I think I look a bit grey!!!

Cath1212 · 17/07/2017 14:07

also developed quite a few spots on my bum! So attractive!!

TheLegendOfBeans · 17/07/2017 18:47

Standing up and applauding you @boxesoffrogs 👏

ThreeFour · 17/07/2017 19:23

Yup. All of the above. Where's my glossy hair and amazing skin? I swear it was in the brochure somewhere. That's false advertising, that is. (Instead, I'm getting increasingly dodgy hips and odd pigmentation on my face. Yay.)

And it feels like there's so much to catch up on - hi to anyone new that I missed! My parents visited over the weekend (it involves a flight when they do, so it doesn't happen often) because they wanted to meet bump before bump turned into baby - first-time grandparents, eh? But it was lovely and they did help with some rather important improvement works in our flat, so I'm quite happy that they did - so tired now, though!

Do people have anyone experience of second-hand car seats, btw? Just how bad are they? We don't have a car, never take taxis, and live a 15-minute walk from the hospital, so we really don't need one, but I went and got one just in case - it was really cheap and looks to be in very good condition. But now I feel all guilty. I mean - surely I can get a second-hand one if I'm not sure I'll EVER need to use it?

ThreeFour · 17/07/2017 19:48

Just to clarify - the reason I'm getting one now is that my mum mentioned that letting DH take baby home in the pram while I get a taxi (assuming I'm not up for the walk) might seem like an excellent plan right now, but I could find it quite difficult emotionally. So I guess it's insurance in case of me going full 'YOU'RE NOT GOING ANYWHERE WITH MY BABY', iykwim?

doomkittycleo · 17/07/2017 19:50

@threefour, I wouldn't even consider a second hand car seat unless it's from a trusted friend or family member. You don't know if it's been in a crash and even a slight bump can damage it (even if it looks fine).

If you don't use a car often I'd just get a cheap one, but definitely not second hand.

I think I've been lucky. My skin and hair is the best it's ever been since being pregnant, however his baby was conceived with clomid.

Ever since stopping the pill to TTC my skin and hair were so greasy. They told me I wasn't ovulating (hence the Clomid).

I'm guessing that I'd been suffering from a hormone imbalance for the 2 years after stopping the pill, which finally getting pregnant has sorted out.

I've been able to wash my hair every other day instead of daily which is a massive improvement for me.

TippetyTapWriter · 17/07/2017 21:16

ThreeFour we just got the cheap mothercare own brand one as like you we had no real need to use it except for first trip home from hospital. Though we did end up using it for various other follow up appointments too, where we had to get taxis. Your mum sounds wise about how you might feel on the trip home! Second hand are advised against for the reason doomkitty said.

Hi to all the new people! Hope everyone is doing generally ok. I'm 27 weeks so 1 week away from third trimester and starting to feel it! I've been lucky symptom-wise so far and was beginning to think I must have been a wimp first time round to have found pregnancy so draining and uncomfortable, but that's because I hadn't hit the third trimester yet! I'm really starting to feel tired now, and finding most movements are starting to get tougher (e.g. Rolling over in bed, picking things up from floor!). Just getting grumpy in general and feeling sorry for myself over stupid stuff like having decaf coffee and no glass of prosecco when I see it on a menu on a hot summery day! Oh and ds seems to have twigged something's on the way as he's really really clingy. He attached himself to me like a limpet when my friend's dd toddled over to say hello to me! He actually said 'My mummy!' He might have a shock come October poor guy.

ThreeFour · 17/07/2017 22:09

I think you might be talking me into going back to plan A as the only plan and not bothering with the car seat at all - though DH is scoffing at me.

I do know a few people who went with second-hand car seats as their car use was similar to our own (as in, they got the car seat for that one trip and never used it again), so had convinced myself it wasn't a big deal, but if it's between high-level anxiety because I'm away from baby for fifteen minutes and high-level anxiety because baby's in the car with me, I suppose I'll have to learn to be apart from baby sooner or later, anyways!

doomkittycleo · 18/07/2017 07:14

@Threefour could you not just get something like this www.kiddicare.com/p/Kiddicare_Go_Group_0_Plus_Baby_Car_Seat_in_Honeycomb_Black.htm?product_id=595573&utm_source=pla&affiliate=KC-google-shopping&gclid=Cj0KCQjwwLHLBRDEARIsAN1A1Q4NBxswibfVLOT7-bzDM93ruKt-rpTYXwZAZF8wiwfjl-LRSTqDYowaAsbHEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds

It's only £35 and will put your mind at ease and make it easier getting to those early Drs appointments in a taxi etc.

krakentoast · 18/07/2017 16:27

Hi everyone, haven't been around for a while!

Don't know if I posted about this before but found out we're having a girl Smile have bought lots of cute baby things but, like, none of the essential things so far... no car seat or pram or cot mattress or anything, argh.

I'm also joining the Not Glowing Club. Acid reflux/heartburn/constipation/tiredness/insomnia... oh and crying at EVERYTHING, especially the fucking guide dog advert every time it's on. The third trimester is a peach! Also feeling totally clueless as it's my first baby and scared about how life is going to change. Nice to check in with you all!

ThreeFour · 18/07/2017 16:29

Thanks, @doomkittycleo !

Happily, in addition to being fifteen minutes' walk from the hospital, we're also three minutes from the GP (oh, for my pre-pregnancy days when I could run there in about two minutes flat!), so I'm not too worried about that Grin - it was only really because I'm not expecting to be up for a longer walk post-birth than the one to, say, the parking lot.

(And then I figured with a well-known brand, there was a better chance of a taxi driver being familiar with that particular contraption and knowing how to secure it, as a test run is obviously out...)

TheLegendOfBeans · 18/07/2017 21:28

Quick one;

Do all of you have a visible linea nigra?

Mine came up at 22w last time and got quite wide (and - bizarrely - orange).

This time: nowt.

mrsbumblebees · 18/07/2017 21:49

No, not yet anyway!

doomkittycleo · 18/07/2017 21:56

No, I don't. No stretch marks yet either but I have been using palmers stretch mark lotion daily.
