ButterflyGem I'd definitely ask them she looked a bit panicked when she realised x

Cineraria · 12/07/2017 20:53

@GimbleInTheWabe, only thing I can think of other than the anaemia blood test that would be different to the 25 week one you also have for a first baby is that they are supposed to go over the RCOG guidance on monitoring your baby's movements: www.rcog.org.uk/en/patients/patient-leaflets/your-babys-movements-in-pregnancy/.

They didn't with me, maybe as it's a second child but I think it is mentioned under what happens in the 28 week appointment in the Kings maternity notes folder. The leaflet was also printed out and clipped in the back of my notes folder.

mummabubs · 12/07/2017 21:39

Similar to you @greentreeseverywhere and @ButterflyGem I was told I should have the GTT (my BMI is low but my grandma had type 2 diabetes and apparently they like everyone to have it where I live as standard). I'm 28 weeks on Saturday and it hasn't been mentioned since my 8 week booking appointment, plus my midwife didn't have any space for appointments in my 28th week so I'll be nearly 30 weeks by the time I see her next. I've text her this morning asking about it and haven't heard anything back :/

GimbleInTheWabe · 12/07/2017 21:53

Thanks @Cineraria, I think she gave me something about movements at my last appt although the sheet was so photocopied that you can barely read it Hmm luckily there's lots of info online!

What is the diabetes test? Is it a blood test? They've always checked my wee for sugar or whatever it is but I don't remember having a diabetes specific one either. My dad has diabetes (the lifestyle related one, can never remember which it is). Think I'll check with my mw tomorrow.

greentreeseverywhere · 12/07/2017 22:28

from what she said they take bloods aftwr fasting from midnight. they then leave h to sit for a few hours. then u drink a energy type drink they really do bloods x

gracey1 · 12/07/2017 23:07

I've had the test.....: you fast from ten the night before (water only) I was then at hospital for 8.30, had bloods taken then had to drink a yellow sugary drink. I sat for two hours then had more bloods taken and was told if there was a problem they'd ring within a couple of days. I've heard Nothing so assuming all is well. When I left hospital I then went for a Sainsbury's breakfast.... I was starving!

GimbleInTheWabe · 12/07/2017 23:28

Thanks for the diabetes test info. Looks like a few of us will be on to our mws about this as I've not heard a whiff of it from mine.. I'll ask her about it tomorrow though.

I really think my LO has changed positions because the part of my bump that is usually hard is now soft.

doomkittycleo · 13/07/2017 06:36

@Gimble, most people don't need it. The nhs guidelines says only people at risk will have it. E.g. High bmi or family history.

It's never been mentioned to me, but I don't fall into any of the risk criteria so not expecting it.

boxesoffrogs · 13/07/2017 07:19

Morning all! Hope you are all well.
Just had a quick catch up as am stupidly early for work and computer is refusing to turn on, typical.
I got a v-shaped pillow from IKEA which has been a life saver, and totally agree with the poster (sorry, lost you in the thread!) who says their dp feels like he has been replaced, I loves my pillow.
Man spreading, yes! Crazy dreams, yes! As in really realistic and dramatic dreams, the sort where you wake up and seriously question reality. Also feeling knackered again, just like the first trimester, to the point when I get home and just need to get my head down for half an hour or so.
Anyone doing any pregnancy related exercise things? I had to give up my horse a month ago, and used to ride at least three times a week (my only exercise Blush) and now I am missing it like crazy, and can feel muscles wasting away and the slow but sure spread of love handles... only exercise I get now is running around like a blue arsed fly at work, and walking the dog. Any suggestions of classes/things to do?
Got 25 week appointment tomorrow with midwife (and then another one at 28 weeks at the hospital Confused) no idea what either of them are for, guessing from other posters that 25 weeks is when they measure the bump, do blood pressure etc? Need to get the rhesus negative jab at the 28 week one according to letter, but other than that I don't know what to expect, seeing as I've had all of my (two) scans.
Anyone flying anywhere soon? I've got to fly to a wedding in August and hopefully for a week away somewhere later that month, and asked my doctor about a fit to fly letter as I'll be over 28 weeks. He told me that he had never heard of it, and had never written one in his life!!!! He has been at the surgery since I was a kid, so not quite sure what is going on there.
Sorry, my posts always seem to end up as essays.

espoleta · 13/07/2017 08:36

Hi everyone

I'm new to this thread (and baby thing in general) and I'm due on the 30th of October with a baby girl.

Exercise wise I really recommend pregnancy yoga. Also swimming is great. You feel weightless and all the pressure is taking off your joints. Feels amazing! I would recommend both!

Thanks

GimbleInTheWabe · 13/07/2017 09:15

Welcome @espoleta!

@boxesoffrogs I've also been doing prenatal yoga once a week and loving it. The teacher also does hypnobirthing so she goes through quite a lot of it during her class. Also I feel like lots of the moves will be great in labour. I'm also swimming and just trying to walk as much as possible as I know soon I may not feel up for it!

Just waiting for my MW appt now and feeling paranoid about baby's movements Confused

TheLegendOfBeans · 13/07/2017 13:57

Hello all, joining from the pregnancy after miscarriage thread now I've hit the 26w mark (daring to accept I'm pregnant haha) and now have a confirmed delivery ate of no later than 27 Oct (due 18 Oct).

I already have a DD who is almost 18 months old and we just moved to the Netherlands so I'm wrapping my brain round a new healthcare system midway through pregnancy.

So just saying hello really! X

mrsbumblebees · 13/07/2017 14:19

Hi and welcome to espoleta and thelegendofbeans Smile great to have some new faces in the group - even if that's not quite the right term!

Hope everyone is well! I had my first NCT class last and really enjoyed it, had no idea what to expect but it was fab and the other ladies seem really nice too - anyone else started these? Now I'm feeling a Bit braver I might bite the bullet and sign up for pregnancy yoga too!

Hope your appointment goes well today gimble - I've been having movement paranoia this week after a very quiet night on Tuesday, thankfully baby is having a disco in there today which is reassuring, long may it continue!

KitKatSplat · 13/07/2017 20:49

@Boxes - General consensus with exercise is to take it easy if you're trying out new exercise, so yoga seems like a good place to start as well as swimming. I'm doing pretty much all the same exercises I did before I was pregnant, including spinning, weight lifting, and running, BUT I listen to my body very carefully and have adjusted my running time/speed (too uncomfortable) and the amount of weight that I lift. Hope that helps!

@Beans - I'm in the same boat! Moved to Sweden a year ago so it's really interesting reading about the process people here go through with their midwives compared to what I'm experiencing. Not a huge amount of difference. In Sweden they are pretty hands off and let you get on with it unless you have specific questions or concerns. But I was talking to a lady from Romania yesterday and she was panicking because there they are far more invasive and hands on and she felt like she wasn't getting enough attention here!

ThreeFour · 13/07/2017 21:53

Hi @espoleta and @TheLegendOfBeans! Wildly impressed about moving countries midway through pregnancy - I vetoed moving to a bigger flat because I couldn't face the prospect of moving boroughs! From what I hear, though, the healthcare system in the Netherlands is pretty good, right?

Also amazed at all the exercise people are doing. I gave up cycling in the first trimester because feeling constantly nauseous while navigating London traffic seemed like a bit of an optimistic thing to try - and my mother and sister would kill me if I took it up again and, in their view, put the little one in danger. So I've just been walking as much as I could - I was walking all the way to work, but now I've had to start taking the bus some of the way because my hips hate me. But yeah, like someone else mentioned, you just feel your muscles wasting away! Not sure I'm quite ready for prenatal yoga yet, though ... I'm terrible at yoga when I'm not pregnant, so I feel like I'd just be this clumsy, awkward person doing everything wrong in a sea of yummy mummies. Blush

Cath1212 · 14/07/2017 10:17

you could always try a yoga DVD - I have just got one from Amazon which has got good reviews - will let you know what it is like!

Cath1212 · 14/07/2017 10:18

also struggling with my hips here so have had to cut back on the walking/cycling a bit which is annoying! I really wanted to keep as active as possible but I think my body is just telling me to slow it down

boxesoffrogs · 14/07/2017 16:17

threefour that's what is putting me off looking for a pregnancy yoga class. I imagine it full of serene co-ordinated yummy mummies to be, whilst I flail around like a whale on crack, all red faced and falling over. I used to have good balance and a reasonable level of fitness, it's all gone to pot. Yesterday I stubbed my little toe on the fridge and ripped the nail in half (how???), then tripped over my lovely fresh glass of sparkling water and ice, soaked the bedroom floor and banged my head on the wall, causing the midwife this morning at my 25 week appointment to give pointed looks at the bruise on my forehead and asked if there was anything I needed to tell her Blush
Speaking of the appointment, complete waste of time, apart from hearing the heartbeat again Smile my normal midwife was snowed under so saw some other one. Was literally in and out, felt like I was on a conveyer belt. She told me I needed to get a whooping cough vaccine, anyone else had to get that? I assume it's pretty routine...
Got a friend and her four year old coming to stay this weekend, and whilst I can't wait to see her (it's been ages!), and have a good old catch up, I am sort of wishing that I had this weekend free, feel exhausted, flat is a tip, dp working ridiculously long hours so it's all up to me to clean, cook, wash, etc. Feel a bit drained to be honest.
How's everyone else getting on?

Cath1212 · 14/07/2017 16:44

whooping cough vaccine is totally routine, I had mine a couple of weeks ago. Most people are fine but it did make me feel a bit rough for a few days - just in case it happens to you as well

Totally with you on the free weekend- this is the first free weekend we have had for ages. I am mostly going to nap and try my yoga dvd

totally with you on the clumsiness - I was bad before but even worse now!!

I didnt have a 25 week midwife appointment - no idea why - next one is next week at 28 weeks, doesn't sound like I missed out on much at the 25 weeks!

GimbleInTheWabe · 14/07/2017 18:46

@boxesoffrogs every class varies obviously but I've been loving my prenatal yoga! It's usually just me and 1 or 2 other women and they're def not bendy yummy mummies. In fact the class is less exercise and more stretching and focus based and I always leave feeling rejuvenated. And yep the whooping cough vac is no biggy although my arm is a little sore and I've been napping more the last 2 days since I got it so maybe prepare yourself for that!

DP and I are taking our last weekend away next weekend to Bristol so I'd love any recommendations of things to do if anyone has any?! We're going for 3 days.

Also @Cineraria think we must have the same MW as mine also had a student with her the other day although I didn't get treated to two people prodding me - just one! Baby is transverse apparently. He's sunk so low in my abdomen the last few days for some reason.

boxesoffrogs · 14/07/2017 19:27

cath I obviously had mine today, but I have another for 28 weeks although at a different hospital, apparently that is for the anti d injection (my blood type is rhesus negative), so my midwife helpfully said if they don't do any pre natal checks there, then ring up and get an emergency appointment as apparently you MUST HAVE a 28 week check up. Yeah, less than three weeks after the 25 week one... I am so confused!
Although (student - nothing against them, but I seem to be getting a lot of them, and this is my first baby!) midwife asked official midwife if they should measure my bump and official midwife said no, not until 26 weeks. I had already had to helpfully point out that I was 25+5, not 12+4 as the first student midwife 'confirmed' using her wheely hand held chart thing as I was sitting there bursting out of my jeans...
right then, this evening I shall not only spring clean in honour of friend's visit, but I shall investigate prenatal yoga. Preferably a class with a covering note for any potential injury (as in 'it's my fault, I have no sense of balance anymore, heaven help me in the last three months of this'...) I just don't want people to laugh at me Sad
I really want to start swimming again, lots of you have recommended it. Just ordered a tankini (sale in JoJo Maman Bébe in case anyone is interested), so I have no excuse! If any London people have any recommendations then would be gratefully received. Or indeed any non Londoners on any swimmy type classes they have found useful.
I think I have got high on febreeze...

Cineraria · 14/07/2017 19:53

Oh yours is transverse too @GimbleInTheWabe. These babies need to stop thinking hammock and start thinking handstand soon!

@Cath1212, is it your first baby? You only have a routine 25 week one for first babies, although some high risk people might get an extra appointment then too. Everyone should have one at 28 weeks though.

We've been travelling to go on holiday today. There's so much traffic that a five hour drive (allowing for a couple of fifteen minute loo and leg stretch breaks) is taking nearer eight! I'm getting a bit stiff but otherwise ok. I thought the bump might be uncomfortable but it hasn't been too bad and DS has been really good too considering he has been stuck in a car seat for so long.

PingusMistress · 14/07/2017 20:19

Hi all, have been lurking but not posting much but lovely to see how we are all progressing through our pregnancies!

I had my 25 week appointment today and it my second baby. But I needed a fit to fly letter for a work trip next week (so not looking forward to a journey on a budget airline) so that may have been why. The midwife mentioned that at the 28 week appointment they take bloods again, so that is something to look forward to - yay Confused

Pregnancy yoga where I live is definitely not all yummy mummies, and neither is it much effort or exercise! Just stretching and taking some time out to focus on you and the baby. I'm on the waiting list as it is so popular.

mrsbumblebees · 14/07/2017 20:47

Oooh Gimble you will be in Bristol for the Harbour Festival then I think! Lots of yummy food and live music etc... at the harbourside, although it does get pretty busy (but is free!) bristolharbourfestival.co.uk/

Lots of very good places to eat in the city, not sure what sort of food you like but loads of good choice.

The suspension bridge is always worth a look. Park Street and Clifton Village are nice for wandering around and for smaller independent shops (or a day trip to Bath which is close). The big chain shops are best in Cabot Circus.

Brandon Hill is a lovely park for a picnic and cool views.

If you fancy a day trip out of the city do something outdoorsy I would recommend a visit to Westonbirt Arboretum.

mummabubs · 14/07/2017 20:54

@boxesoffrogs : I've signed up to Daisy pregnancy yoga starting in 2 weeks, and I WILL be the person flailing at the back having never done yoga before and not being the most elegant of whatsits to begin with! I found a maternity tankini in the sale in Tesco's for £8 the other day and literally cried with joy (having signed up to aquanatal and then discovering that none of my bikinis/costumes remotely fit!!!) If it makes you feel any better my 25 week appointment was also less than 5 mins and felt very rushed.
