GimbleInTheWabe The only thing we have bought - well ordered is our pram and car seat ... and that was only because it was on a 6 waiting list! Other than that I have 2 packs of nappies and some water wipes!
I keep telling myself its because im having an autumn baby so need to wait for the autumn/winter clothes to come into the shops before I start buying .... but that is kind of an excuse!

On another note ... has anyone been having nightmares? the last 2 nights I've had horrible baby related nightmares ... last nights being that I went into labour now!
Have woken up this morning feeling really paranoid that I haven't felt her move much since yesterday morning!

Cath1212 · 11/07/2017 09:50

TippetyTapWriter yep, completely knackered here and sleeping really badly

Maternity leave seems a long way away!!

Cath1212 · 11/07/2017 09:52

I had a horrible baby related dream last week - I dont even want to say what happened, the next day I was totally paranoid and the little bugger didnt move all day until the evening- I am sure he was playing games with me!!

PicnicSarah · 11/07/2017 09:54

Hi everyone, I'd like to join the group if possible! New to Mumsnet but I'm due on 1st Oct with my first baby :)

Just a quick question for everyone...is anyone else measuring under for their bump measurement? I was 25cm at 27wks so I've been referred for a growth scan in 3 weeks – I can't help freaking out about it!

Thanks and nice to meet you all x

leannejade · 11/07/2017 10:05

25w today. These past couple of days the baby has seemed to of been moving as much as previous weeks, and has definitely not been kicking my belly as much.
Could this just be because of how he's lying or a growth spurt? Don't want to call in over nothing.

Like I feel him move, just not a lot..

I had my midwife appointment yesterday where she did the heartbeat and felt my stomach and said everything was fine, so am I being overly paranoid because I know I have to start monitoring soon? It's getting me down.

ThreeFour · 11/07/2017 10:21

@GimbleInTheWabe there's also a place called Thaivedic in East Dulwich who do pregnancy massages. I went for one, and even though I thought it really wouldn't be my cup of tea, I ended up really enjoying it. I may end up going for another one, the way my back and hips seem to (not) be taking to this pregnancy thing.

And I was going to wait until September to get anything at all, but then the summer sales happened, and well ... So now we've got pram, cot and changing bag, as well as a few sleep suits (with dinosaurs!) that I got to try connect a bit with the whole thing. Our flat is such a mess...

And has anyone read Emily Oster's Expecting Better? It was the first pregnancy book I picked up, and I loved it - I'd wish I'd read it at some point in the first 20 weeks when everything was terrifying.

Also, please tell me I'm not the only one who finds herself involuntarily manspreading? I've taken to always having my bag between my legs on the bus, as that gives me an excuse at least...

Cath1212 · 11/07/2017 12:01

can anyone recommend any pregnancy pillows? I know they dont always work, but I am sleeping less and less so willing to try anything at the moment!!

doomkittycleo · 11/07/2017 12:30

I'm using the dreamgeni and I love it.

mummabubs · 11/07/2017 13:21

Hi and welcome @PicnicSarah! 😊 I'm actually more worried that my bump is going to measure as being big- where I live they don't measure until 28 weeks so I have to wait until next week to find out! I have heard the measurement thing isn't the most robust or scientific way to determine size as midwives measure in different ways, so maybe try not to worry until you've had the scan as that will give you more of a concrete idea what size bubba is? X

GimbleInTheWabe · 11/07/2017 13:29

Thanks @ThreeFour, I'm going to have a look at that place too. I've not really had many massages before so never really know what to expect. Haven't heard of that book either so will add it to my reading list. I'm currently reading one my friend gave me which is an NCT book called 'your birth day' or something like that which is really good.

@Cath1212 I can't recommend the bbhugme pillow enough. It is just amazingly comfortable and versatile. I also forgot I was going to post the discount I got with it which is 'friendlyhug10' which you can use on their website I think for 10% off. I take it round the flat with me and it has made sleeping at night so comfy. I have to pry it from DPs arms sometimes as he steals it from me! It's pretty pricey but it's also a nursing pillow, baby nest and the tighteners are also teething aids. Seriously it's the best pregnancy purchase I've made.

GimbleInTheWabe · 11/07/2017 13:30

And yes sorry- welcome @PicnicSarah!
I think measured the same at my midwife appt at 27weeks and the midwife didn't mention anything so maybe they're just being cautious?

ThreeFour · 11/07/2017 14:25

Hi @PicnicSarah ! Just to echo what others have said, I don't think it's something you need to be too worried about - it seems to be a very rough guideline that some midwives take far more seriously than others. (I'd been reading up on it before my last appointment because everyone had been telling me how tiny my bump was, and convincing myself it was complete nonsense, and then of course I measured exactly 26cm at 26 weeks!) Just try to think of it as another opportunity to see your little one in a scan?

And @cath1212 - I panic-bought the Theraline for way more money than I was intending to spend because my back hurt so much, and I love it. DH is joking that I don't really need him anymore as I have my giant pillow to cuddle.

@leannejade - I've had quiet days like that, and I've tried not to worry about how powerful the kicks are as long as they're there (maybe baby got turned around?), but maybe call your midwife if you're worried. It's surely better to make the call and be reassured than to worry yourself sick over it.

Cineraria · 11/07/2017 15:21

picnicsarah I'm 2cm over at 28 weeks and nothing was said. According to our 20 week scan the baby has really long legs, so I think he's just tall. I thought it was ok to be up to 2cm either way but maybe your midwife is being more cautious.

wapsmahoney, I'm having quite vivid teams but not usually nightmares. Last night I dreamt that I found some of DS's toddler cutlery that is missing. How dull is that! I can't even remember where it was as I'd like to go and look there.

My 28 week appointment went well. I even managed to get DS to sleep through it in his pushchair (previously unheard of!) as I am phobic about needles and didn't want him to pick up on that. The baby was transverse in position which I had thought anyway as my bump had felt more squishy and flexible for a couple of days after having the pressure of a head or bottom in the ribs for several weeks. I think he has just moved back to vertical though as I can feel him back in the ribs again since lunch time!

mrsbumblebees · 11/07/2017 20:20

picnicsarah hello and welcome! Sorry for such a late reply but just wanted to reassure you that at my 25 week appointment I was told I was measuring 4 or 5 weeks behind (!) and was sent for an emergency growth scan, cue me having a total meltdown and panic! Thankfully baby was measuring perfectly normal size on the scan - I think measuring bumps is a wildly inaccurate way of estimating the size of the baby but it is a nice opportunity to see baby again at the scan and of course to check all is well. Don't worry yourself!

ButterflyGem · 11/07/2017 22:17

Hi all
@picnicsarah I git measured at 25 weeks & measured above average even though my bump looks quite small, but the midwife said it's not all that accurate at this stage. I'm back on Friday when I'll be nearly 28 weeks.
I've been having really vivid & sometimes scary dreams too keep waking myself up with them. I'm off work next week & can't wait for a rest & get the nursery sorted. Just realised when I go back 24 July I'll only have 5 weeks left until maternity starts! Eek it's going so fast I need to relax & enjoy it more I think.
I've also been having like a sunburn kind of pain on my skin there's no redness but it's just below the bra line for about an inch along bump I wasn't sure if it is just skin stretching has anyone else had this? xx

ButterflyGem · 11/07/2017 22:17

Got not git stupid predictive text x

ButterflyGem · 11/07/2017 22:34

Also I went to see my friends 3 week old baby to tonight, he was so tiny. I had a cuddle & it suddenly sunk in that this will be me in a few month time! Exciting buy nerve wracking at the same time. 😊

GimbleInTheWabe · 12/07/2017 10:18

@Cineraria glad your appt went well, mine is tomorrow. How do they know the baby's position? I feel like my LO has been on the move too.

@ButterflyGem aw I'm jealous you got baby cuddles, after my yoga class there's mum and baby yoga and it's so strange seeing all the newborns thinking- soon I'll have one! I've not had much itchy bump but I know it's a thing, have you been moisturising a lot?

Just had my whooping cough vaccine- don't forget to book yours too!

wapsmahoney · 12/07/2017 11:22

Ah whooping cough vaccine ... I have mine on Tuesday and I cant say im looking forward to it!

Off for my 28 week midwife appointment in a while ... I think I may end up bombarding her with questions!

ButterflyGem Ah baby cuddles! Im so jealous! My best friend had her little boy a month ago - 4 weeks early! Still haven't managed to get to see them due to the fact they live 3 hours away!

Cath1212 · 12/07/2017 11:31

Thanks for the pillow recommendations - going to try and get one today in the hope it helps!

I have had quite an itchy bump over the last few days - I keep checking wondering if stretch marks are about to appear!!

Cineraria · 12/07/2017 12:12

@GimbleInTheWabe she had a really good feel! Well two of them did, in fact as there was a trainee with the midwife. It is like they are putting the ends of their fingers in quite deeply all round the baby's shape. She did really well and wasn't timid and tickly and then the qualified one she was shadowing checked and agreed with her on the baby's position. It really woke the baby up so he was very fidgety. He is so curious about what is on the outside!

I'm not itchy this time but I was last time and found the Weleda pregnancy/stretch mark oil really good at reducing the outcomes and it had a nice leaflet with massage instructions with it too.

Cineraria · 12/07/2017 12:27

outcomes? That should have been itchiness!

greentreeseverywhere · 12/07/2017 14:29

I had my 28week appointment today and saw midwife never 3 since my booking appointment 🙄 anyway all was good and she asked did I have any questions. I asked when my diabetes check would be as was mentioned as my bmi was just over. she said oh u should have it done by now 🙄 managed to squeeze me in Friday which is lucky my day off!
I also said that when iv been very constipated iv felt baby move less/lighter kicks then when iv finally gone the kicks/movement is back to normal and she said that common too. iv got a yoga move that seems to be the only thing helping (sorry if that's this!!)

GimbleInTheWabe · 12/07/2017 18:29

@Cineraria wow! Love that they just get stuck in there. I've tentatively felt around for my baby (def felt his head once!) so will prepare myself for more prodding and poking from strangers. Anything else that they do at this check up apart from bloods and the usual?

ButterflyGem · 12/07/2017 19:15

@greentreeseverywhere it will be my 28 week check on Friday & I haven't had the diabetes test yet either although they suggested I should have one.
It feels like since 20 weeks it's flying by quite scary cos I'm a bit disorganised & my house is a tip. Seeing a mortgage advisor next week so I'll have to hide my bump lol x
