Hi all
I had my midwife appt today 27+5 weeks. She took bloods, blood pressure heard heartbeat & gave me number for ante Natal Classes which are for 4 weeks in august although my other half says he can't make the first one as away with work. I don't need he diabetes test as normal bmi & no family history & have booked in the doctors for whopping cough vaccine on Tuesday. She answered all my questions although I have had a trainee at every appointment too who keeps asking the qualified midwife what she should do.
Although I'm not looking forward to tomorrow my husband has bought a car for himself (sports type of porsche thing) nothing flashy it will likely be a shed of a car for about £6k & we're travelling 5 hours away tomorrow to Cambridgeshire to pick it up & he wants to set off at 4am to beat the traffic. I don't fancy sitting in a car all day 😐 Tbh I might let him go on his own as I'm still mad that he's bought it when we need baby things - that he's not showing much interest in & finishing renovating house etc. Men haha

mrsbumblebees · 14/07/2017 21:17

Oooh butterflygem I sympathise haha! I am currently living with a half finished kitchen because DH was too tight to pay someone to do it and declared he would do it himself. I pointed out that he works long hours, we go away a lot at weekends and he likes to spend the rest of his spare time kitesurfing so it would never get finished... cue lots of indignant protesting from him that he could get it done in 6 weeks. 12 weeks later and it's still not finished our first weekend at home in a while and guess where he is going - kitesurfing!

He did ask me what I wanted to do for the rest of the weekend and I suggested we could go and look at prams together (so far I'm the only one who has researched any baby stuff so far...) - his counter suggestion was that i could drop him off at the beach and look at prams while he was kitesurfing before picking him up and reporting back! Argggh!

TheLionQueen1 · 14/07/2017 22:28

Ladies who have had babies before, is the below worth it?

thelittlemumtobeco.co.uk/products/blossom-basic-essentials-package

Or should I just not be lazy and buy all the stuff?!

mrsbumblebees · 14/07/2017 22:41

Oooh I like the bag!

TheLionQueen1 · 14/07/2017 22:45

I love the bag and the stuff that is in it seems great, but I don't want to waste money buying stuff I don't need!! But it does seem cheap!

mrsbumblebees · 14/07/2017 22:55

I've not done this before but to me it doesn't seem a bad price for a nice bag with some useful bits in it, even if you don't use all the contents! I don't imagine buying all that stuff separately would work out loads cheaper!

TheLionQueen1 · 14/07/2017 23:04

Thanks mrsbumble, I think I'll go for it!

ButterflyGem · 14/07/2017 23:19

@TheLionQueen1 the bag looks lovely I'd pay that alone for it so seems good deal to me. Actually I have a question about changing bags, maybe a bit silly but should you buy just whatever pattern etc you like. Like the one on the link or do people buy them to match the colour of prams or depending on sex of baby? I have no idea.

@mrsbumblebees this is exactly what my husband is like, he's a plumbing/heating engineer by trade but can do most other things like joinery, electrics etc & so refuses to pay people to do things just means it takes ages for him to get round to doing things though. He has shown interest in the baby movements but not in shopping for anything.

We're both off next week so hopefully we'll get sorted then & has told me tonight he has booked a room in a hotel in Lake district for one night (his brother owns the hotel so will have got it cheap) think he realises I was mad at him as he never does that sort of thing lol.

TheLionQueen1 · 14/07/2017 23:36

I bought a changing bag I liked before I even found out the sex, it's not going to match my pram which is red as it is blue striped!

PingusMistress · 14/07/2017 23:44

If your DH/DP is going to be looking after baby sometimes, I'd recommend a changing bag design that he would be happy to carry too! We had a baba bing one, pricey but very durable.

TheLegendOfBeans · 15/07/2017 06:52

£32 for all that is bloody marvellous IMHO (thinks back wistfully to the crap one I had with DD).

Re dad's not wanting to carry a floral bag; it can go in the underbasket of the buggy. He won't mind if he's dealing with a poonami in the middle of a shopping centre!

For a variety of reasons I use a small backpack for DD but now I'm going to have to carry two lots of things I'll be buying something a bit bigger and special.

mummabubs · 15/07/2017 07:09

I've feel like I've been generous - DH told me to shortlist changing bags and whilst my heart is drawn to Cath Kidston's beautiful designs I've instead shown him the Babymoov Urban changing bag which is very man friendly, I figure that might encourage DH to take bubba out on his own every now and then!! 😅 We don't know the sex but I'd get whatever bag you like- it's you that has to carry it, not the baby!! X

TheLionQueen1 · 15/07/2017 08:05

Mines Cath Kidston Mummabubs! Luckily it's blue and white so DH can't be too offended.

Thanks TheLegend I'm going to get one!

GimbleInTheWabe · 15/07/2017 10:07

I agree that the bag and contents is a bargain so go for it! I love the pattern too.

I've heavily hinted to DP that I'd like a Toba and Marl backpack for my birthday next month (good timing hey?!) so let's see if he goes for it. It's black faux leather so not too 'girly' so here's hoping he won't object to carrying it.

Anyone else here getting a sling/carrier? We're getting the ergobaby 360 I think.

@mrsbumblebees thanks so much for the recommendations! And yes we'll be there for the festival too, such good timing as I had no idea it was going on!

KitKatSplat · 15/07/2017 10:31

I think it's quite a shame hearing about some men who care what a changing bag looks like, or not being that interested in shopping for baby stuff or doing their fair share of child raising. It's not acceptable.

mrsbumblebees · 15/07/2017 10:31

I'm definitely keen on getting a sling/carrier but might wait till after baby arrives and then go to a sling library to test a few out.

There are just too many decisions/choices to make aren't there!

TheLegendOfBeans · 15/07/2017 10:40

We are reusing the baby Bjorn miracle carrier; there's mixed reviews of them out there but ours worked well with DD and I'm going to have to "wear" this baby so I need something tried and tested that I can rely on!

However, without question if I had the time again I'd buy an Ergobaby sling; yes they are £££ but I've never heard a bad word about them and they are really good and easy to "tune" to your back x

mrsbumblebees · 15/07/2017 10:50

kitkatsplat hope I haven't painted my DH in too harsh a light, was meant in a light hearted way really! He might not be that engaged in the shopping bit (haha) but he has been a saint in other ways. I've developed really bad anxiety since becoming pregnant and he has been my absolute rock. I know he will be amazing looking after me and the baby and I honestly wouldn't swap him for the world, even if he does drive me crazy sometimes - am sure I do the same to him!

I don't know if any of you follow 'Peter and Jane' on Facebook (highly recommended if you want a giggle and don't mind the very liberal use of swear words) but I loved this quote from one of her recent posts:

"There has to be a certain irony that the person you can’t live without, is also sometimes the person you want to kill most in all the world, except you can’t kill them, because they are also the person you would call if you ever had to get rid of a body"

I agree that it's totally unacceptable when men are not supportive or have no interest in being involved but I'm sure that the vast majority of other halves from this thread will do a fab job at parenting, even if shopping isn't their forte or they are a little embarrsed carrying a flowery bag Smile

ButterflyGem · 15/07/2017 12:47

Lol me too my husband is great & I'm sure he'll be a fabulous dad. I think it can be hard for them maybe until the baby arrives (so some friends have told me). He's not interested in shopping at the best of times so is leaving me to decide what I want. Plus I feel I have been a bit emotional throughout the pregnancy so far & extra fragile since miscarriage last year.
I'm hoping soon once he can feel the baby kick properly he'll feel more involved lol. I just felt the need to rant about him buying a car over baby items. (Sorry)
I'm buying blackout blinds for the nursery today & assembling cot etc tomorrow eek then it will feel real x

mrsbumblebees · 15/07/2017 12:56

My DH felt proper big kicks for the first time last night, that was really exciting! I think for some partners it can just take a while for it all to feel really 'real' for them (if that makes sense?!) - they don't have the hormones or the symptoms or the feelings of movement so I guess it just takes a while for them to feel as involved as the woman? Plus as much as this baby was wanted and planned, that still doesn't stop it being a bit of a shock when it actually happens! Takes some time to sink in I think.

We definitely all need a rant from time to time though! Good to get it off our chests, and laugh about shared experiences!

Did you end up going to get the car with him in the end butterflygem? Glad you have some nice baby stuff planned for the rest of the weekend Smile

ButterflyGem · 15/07/2017 13:05

Yes lol but we've had lots of food/toilet stops & on way home now with the car on a trailer, via some baby shops haha & we're both off next week so can do lots of baby shopping then. 👌
One of my friends went to the next sale at 5am! & got me a few bits of neutral things.

mrsbumblebees · 15/07/2017 13:16

Sounds like a good compromise!!

PingusMistress · 15/07/2017 21:45

I've somehow got onto an advanced preview list for the Next sale, which is brilliant but I did go a bit crazy on the baby boy clothes this time! But you can never have too many vests, right? Smile

I'm sure DH would happily carry a floral changing bag if I got one, but he is a SAHD and so does more than his fair share of the child care. Plus he used the sling rather than the buggy a lot last time. So I think it is only fair that we get a bag that we both like. Quality is more important than looks in my experience, having bought a few pretty but cheap ones that fell apart after a few weeks!

I have an ergo baby carrier and I love it and would recommend it, my sister gave it to me second hand and this will be the third baby to get (hopefully) lots of use out of it.

mummabubs · 15/07/2017 22:02

In fairness I should clarify that I'm confident my DH would carry a floral bag around but felt it was a bit kinder to him to pick one that's not purely what I'd go for in recognition that he will have to take bubba out solo too! 😊 He's never enjoyed shopping in general so I think he struggles a bit with just how much baby stuff costs and how many faddy things there are on the market that you definitely don't need, I do understand this to an extent!

I also braved a Next store today, so many beautiful clothes but it's a bit hard when you don't know the sex you're having and equally (possibly like my hubby) I'm trying my best to reign myself in by reminding myself that in the early months they literally outgrow clothes within weeks of being in them. (But it's hard when there are just so many utterly adorable mini people clothes out there!!)

greatbigbushybeard · 15/07/2017 23:13

Hello, can I join? I am expecting our second dd in early October & am 28 weeks. Really feeling it at mo- feeling big & uncomfortable & a tad emotional too! Be nice to share experiences. We got a ergo carrier for our first daughter- I found it great but my dh preferred a second hand own brand mothercare one we had. I want to get the newborn insert for the ergo as my dd will only be 2 years 2 months when baba 2 comes along. Xx
