Just got my scan date for 16th September, that would make 13.4. Has anyone had one that late? worse still I can't make that date as I'm running a training course so I hope it won't get later still. Seems so long to wait.

Rosey135 · 26/08/2016 09:25

Clarity mine will be at 13.3 on the 5th September, seems like so long to wait, I'm 12 weeks today and want to start telling people but feel I should wait till the scan.

ItsMagicYouKnow · 26/08/2016 09:25

Morning all!

Enjoying my first cup of (decaf) coffee since the nausea kicked in 6 weeks ago! Smile

Also just ordered some Grobags. Seems to be tempting fate 4 days before my scan, but I suppose I could always put them aside/give them as presents/sell them. It was a private sale just on today, and I had Vertbaudet sleeping bags for DS but never used them because the neck was too wide (v. anxious 1st time mum), and vowed to only buy genuine Grobags in future. The problem is you "need" at least two, and then two different togs...

Sorry rambling now! Hope everyone's doing well, good luck for today's scans!

Hang on in there boots x

ItsMagicYouKnow · 26/08/2016 09:28

Clarity Last time I had a scan at 13+3 and that was fine.

NameChange30 · 26/08/2016 09:30

Good luck to Hmrtron, Spaniel and anyone else with a scan today!

Hi Debie, thanks for adding yourself to the spreadsheet - I've moved you to the right place! It's filling up nicely Smile

Clarity Now you have your letter maybe you could give them a call to try and move it? I didn't have trouble moving mine.

Cloey I think I read that we don't need to take folic acid after 12 weeks. I've got some pregnancy multivitamins left (the Boots one) so I'll ask the midwife before I finish them. Might just get vitamin D if that's all we need from now on.

Sugarbellesmum · 26/08/2016 09:40

Congratulations on all the brilliant scan news everyone! I'm really happy for you all and getting a bit impatient, mines not til 21 Sept, seems like ages away!
When I spoke to the midwife she told me to keep up the pregnancy vitamins all the way through,(was up to 12weeks with Dd1 so I asked her) but that folic acid and vitamin d were the important ones. I just switched to wilkos ones causes they're half the price of seven seas!

Clarity77 · 26/08/2016 09:48

Rosey - glad I'm not the only one and that my hospital isn't just badly organised. I feel for you it's too long. I'm going to book a private scan for 11w 5d. I feel that I need the comfort and we would like to tell parents on the weekend we see them and I have a work one to one where I was planning to raise it and then it's my birthday and I would really like to know before we have a weekend away. It's annoying spending £100 but I feel that I need a scan before breaking the news and keeping it to myself is killing me.
So pleased to hear all the scan good news lovely to see the photos too as then I know what to expect.

MissClarke86 · 26/08/2016 09:54

Clarity I know what you mean and don't blame you. On the plus side, a later scan will show a more developed baby on screen, but I completely get about wanting to tell people at certain times etc. I've avoided paying for a scan (though I got s reassurance scan at 8 weeks) but suspect I'll cave and book one about 16 weeks to find out the gender!

I was desperate for my scan before the weekend because I've got a family party where it would've been easy to tell everyone, but actually in hindsight I'm quite glad because I don't think OH and I could cope very well with 60+ people all knowing at once when we're still anxious!

Loads of people know already anyway because I've had a birthday and I normally drink wine like a fish. I couldn't hide it so just told people but said it's very early days.

Woke up today at 12 weeks and feel fresh as a daisy! It's a nice feeling, just hoping it's because the placenta has taken over etc. 4 days until scan and I think I can just about hold it together until then...

Carolann8584 · 26/08/2016 09:59

Morning ladies

11 weeks today Smile

Feeling happy but very weepy as the same time, keep welling up at nothing Sad one of my colleagues is leaving today to go to New York for 2 weeks to get married, we have decorated the office looks great just a bit overwhelmed I think

t-minus 10 and counting until scan Smile

Cloeycat · 26/08/2016 10:06

clarity mine was originally due to be next Tuesday which would have made me 13+6 but I couldn't make it. When I called to change (the second time!) I strongly suggesting this week as the alternative and they actually had quite a few available so I ended up having scan yesterday at 13+1. I would suggest ringing them to change before you book a reassurance scan just in case you get lucky with an earlier date. Mention you are twelve weeks on whatever date you are and go from there when suggesting when you are available. Good Luck 😄

neonrainbow · 26/08/2016 10:17

Good luck scan people! The sonographer told me up to 14 weeks is OK for the nuchal test. I'll be 13+4 on Sunday when I have my third scan/second attempt at a nuchal.

greentreeseverywhere · 26/08/2016 10:35

I'll be 13 w on my scan date. it seems to be dragging! !! 2 more weeks to go!
a friend of mine who had a baby recently which was badly tounge tide ( had to be snipped 3 times to get it working!) said that she was told it's due to the amount of folic acid she took during pregnancy? I'm on a higher dose due to bmi and then will swap to multi vitamin but most of these contain folic too. possibly over thinking things but seen how badly the tounge tie affected their bond and feeding don't want it to happen as well.

NameChange30 · 26/08/2016 10:38

green Do you mean that she took too much?

OP posts:
neonrainbow · 26/08/2016 10:47

I've been taking folic acid since January. Confused To be honest I'd rather they had tongue tie than spina bifida or some other neural defect.

butterfliesandzebras · 26/08/2016 11:37

According to the NHS guidance "You should take a 400mcg folic acid tablet every day while you are trying to get pregnant and until you are 12 weeks pregnant."

After 12 weeks I think neural tubes are formed so taking more won't do anything more to prevent spina bifida. (obviously I am not a doctor, so don't know other benefits/risks of taking folic acid).

Vit D you should take through pregnancy into breastfeeding (again, according to NHS).

rbucz · 26/08/2016 12:28

I had a quick poke through the scientific literature for folic acid and tongue tie and couldn't really find any studies at all, so I wouldn't worry too much. I think the NHS would be making a big deal about avoiding in later pregnancy if any proof that it was damaging. But I'm not medically trained.

Don't think folic acid does anything beneficial after the first trimester, so I'm planning on dropping it and sticking with balanced diet plus vitamin d supplements

SpanielLedWeaning · 26/08/2016 12:31

All Good!

What a massive relief. Baby present and wriggling about (just the one though!). Didn't want to co-operate with the NT test as was facing front on rather than on its back or front. Eventually got all the right measurements but got to wait 10 days for the results.

EDD moved forward 2 days to 5th March.

Feel like I have been holding my breath for the last week and can finally now breathe free Smile

NameChange30 · 26/08/2016 12:32

Yay Spaniel! Smile

OP posts:
neonrainbow · 26/08/2016 12:38

Excellent news spaniel!

Dustycorners · 26/08/2016 12:55

Congratulations Spaniel! And now we're due date buddies Smile

Dozygirl · 26/08/2016 12:55

Anyone else been completely useless at remembering to take folic acid? I've tried to take it every day but I've definitely not managed that at all. I've barely even taken it every other day. I'll feel so guilty if baby hasn't developed properly because I haven't taken it.

Good news on the scans ladies.

Neon I wasn't offered another one when they couldn't get nuchal reading. I feel like my sonographer was a bit impatient as she just said baby isn't in the right position so she couldnt get it and that was that. Just offered me bloods at 16 weeks instead but does anyone know the difference between these tests? I had randomly quickly read a sign that was above the water fountain explaining the difference between the 2 tests but that was before I knew she wasn't going to get the reading so I didn't pay too much attention to it. Feel annoyed that she didn't try harder to get the reading in the first place.

ItsMagicYouKnow · 26/08/2016 13:04

Good news Spaniel!

No it's not just you Dozy, I've been useless at taking FA, started after BFP, and missed more than a few, especially recently. I went through a period of eating Marmite every morning, but stopped a couple of weeks ago. Feeling very guilty over here too!

NameChange30 · 26/08/2016 13:07

I know it's easier for me to say this because I've had my 12 week scan, but I'd like to gently encourage everyone to try and let go of the anxiety and guilt. We're all doing the best we can. The chances are that our babies are healthy and if they're not, there is very little we can do about it at this stage.

I don't think forgetting a few folic acid tablets is going to make much if any difference.

Hang on in there!

OP posts:
Carolann8584 · 26/08/2016 13:09

I think I miss a day here and there of FA

Since about week 6 I've gone off dairy, worried about calcium intake now, it's in the pregnancy vits I take but that's 15%RDA. Forced myself to have yoghurt today, just plain nothing fancy, felt extra bloat and extra uncomfortable since Sad

NameChange30 · 26/08/2016 13:39

I've realised that my last post might come across as criticising people for being anxious, I really hope it doesn't come across that way as it wasn't my intention at all. I do think it's totally natural to worry, I was just trying to be supportive and encourage positive thinking... Argh! Anyway hope I didn't offend anyone and apologies if I did Blush
