I'll be getting the flu jab this time, just going to nip to my GP's surgery on the day they do the clinic. I didn't have it last time due to having an August baby, but this time I work with the elderly in hospital so I think I am going to encounter a fair amount of flu this winter

SecretScaryFriend · 23/09/2016 16:51

I'm not sure on flu yet but erring towards having it as I wouldn't cope with a toddler if I had flu. I will have whooping cough.
I also have to have the anti D injection as I am rhesus negative. Luckily I am not needle phobic!

Butterpuff · 23/09/2016 17:13

Giggling at the flu fun day where the nurses all wear funny wigs while jabbing anyone who passes!

Ill be booking it Monday.

Last time I didn't bother with docs for thrush. Just bought canestern. Getting to docs was too much hassell.

charlybs · 23/09/2016 17:52

Tried to buy the thrush pessary at boots and the person wouldn't sell it to me without a prescription as she could tell I was pregnant.

So I sent my friend in 10 mins later lol!

Happygojo86 · 23/09/2016 18:08

Charly have you tried taking pro biotics? Optibac is a good one albeit expensive and you can get from Superdrug. Might help if the thrush is recurring

NameChange30 · 23/09/2016 18:49

Happy I considered getting probiotics when I thought I might have thrush. Asked the assistant in the health shop and she advised caution in pregnancy. She recommended pregnancy probiotics which were obviously about 10000% more expensive than regular probiotics!

I bought something else in the end, I think it was a probiotic pessary from Boots, and I checked with the pharmacist who confirmed it was safe to use in pregnancy.

This is what I got: Canesflor vaginal probiotics

Name change optibac are safe in pregnancy, they are for babies, pregnant ladies and breastfeeding mums. I gave it to my dd for her tummy issues and I think it did help but it was getting a bit pricey but maybe you would just need a short course, then it's not too bad

NameChange30 · 23/09/2016 21:38

Happy I hadn't heard of Optibac, and didn't realise it was safe in pregnancy - I guess they didn't sell it at the shop I tried! Thanks for the recommendation Smile

Hello Ladies! Can I join? EDD 19th March. I'm 15weeks tomorrow with DC3, have two DS aged two and four already.
Been lurking for a while, I've definitely found this pregnancy the hardest so far, sickness and exhaustion only just lifting where as I'm sure I felt better sooner with the previous two! Though that could just be the rose tinted glasses that seem to defend on all things pregnancy and birth related once the babies are here!
I second the recommendation of Optibac - I've used it through pregnancy and breastfeeding and still give it to the DSs to ward off tummy bugs! It's good stuff, and it's in a powdered form so you can mix or sprinkle into food or drink so it's really easy to take.

Dustycorners · 24/09/2016 09:59

Welcome feisty!

charlybs · 24/09/2016 13:21

I've read a lot of research about probiotics and I dunno if I'm convinced yet that there's much evidence if it works? Willing to try if I can't get a Drs appt any time soon though haha.

Happygojo86 · 24/09/2016 18:06

Yeah charly I don't think personally probiotics in sweet yoghurts or drinks work or prebiotics but I dunno, with DD I was willing give anything a go, I was desperate!

I've used Optical probiotics when I had to have a course of antibiotics. The AB's wipe out your gut flora so I needed something to help me build it up again quickly. I have colitis so a healthy gut is very important!

Had flu jab on Saturday and got whooping cough booked for the day after my 20 week scan. No side affects from the flu jab yet apart from a sore arm where the jab went in.

charlybs · 26/09/2016 09:33

Hugh I've also just ordered a load of maternity clothes. I thought that I would be able to get buy with 2x maternity jeans and a few tops and be able to wear the bulk of my usual clothes still. HA yeah right!!! Nothing fits me apart from the baggiest t shirts and most dresses don't either as they're too tight on the bust now.

I was getting a bit down about basically wearing the same 3 outfits over and over so OH said oh just get what you need. Have an ASOS delivery coming today, and a smaller H&M one tomorrow, but with coat! Yay!!!

SuperDuperJezebel · 26/09/2016 09:47

I had a little cry, just for a change, about having no maternity clothes. Which is a bit of an exaggeration but I keep trying to make myself look nice and feel like I'm failing. Husband suggested we pop to the shops on Saturday, not one single shop had maternity clothes! Ended up ordering some bits which were allegedly delivered to me yesterday only I was home all afternoon and... They weren't. Someone is going to look gorgeous in my giant dresses!

Just a note as well to say its pretty quiet here but super busy a lot of the time on facebook so please pm me your email address if you'd like to be added. I can't do it from my phone unfortunately so if you don't get an email for a few hours, don't worry. Don't want anyone to miss out tho!

alphabook · 26/09/2016 11:31

I feel like that about most baby things, I hate having to spend money on things that are only going to last a few months!

This may be a stupid question, do I need maternity pjs or will pjs in a bigger size be fine?

SpanielLedWeaning · 26/09/2016 12:06

I had maternity pj's but mainly because I didn't like the waistband of my other ones putting pressure on my tummy and wanted more support on my boobs as they were sore. I haven't had to use them yet this time but I'm sure they will make an appearance soon!

Butterpuff · 26/09/2016 12:24

I never had maternity PJs just super big ones for post birth at hospital which I bought extremely cheaply in the January sale in BHS.

I thought it was a bit quiet on here and wondered if the fb group had taken over.

NameChange30 · 26/09/2016 12:25

I did wonder why it had gone so quiet on here - I guessed it might be busier on FB! I would prefer to stay anonymous so I'll stick to the thread.

Super I've been there, cried all the way to work one morning out of frustration at having nothing to wear.

I have been ordering loads online and then sending 99% of it back because it doesn't fit! I have managed to get some good maternity jeans and PJs from Next. Still waiting for a Verbaudet order. Oh and I got a nice maternity t-shirt on sale from Gap.

I ordered loads from H&M and then returned it all - terrible fit and quality!

namechange I LOVE my h&m jeans! Most my maternity stuff is from there!

Carolann8584 · 26/09/2016 12:43

I'm not on Facebook so staying on here but have noticed its gone quiet. I need to get some new clothes I have 2 pairs of jeggings that are getting tight on my growing bump, my leggings I now have to wear under bump with tunics but with the temp drop today wondering where my pregnancy heat has gone coz I've been freezing all morning. Might have to have a proper search for MAT clothes, can't even have a quick browse at work too busy Sad x

alphabook · 26/09/2016 13:12

I always find H&M sizing a bit odd, they don't seem to have any consistency! I got some really comfy and well fitting maternity jeggings from New Look.

BeccaSays · 26/09/2016 13:14

Hi everyone, I'm going to have to get some maternity clothing too...my work trousers can only be worn undone with a tight vest covering it up...and I'm doing the hair band trick on my jeans! I had a look online and the choice doesn't seem great for smart clothes. Can anyone recommend good places to get some nice office wear please? I don't want to spend a lot.

We went to look at prams and car seats yesterday and were shocked by the price...really want an iCandy all terrain but they're so expensive!!

SuperDuper at the risk of sounding dim, how do I send you a private message with my email? New to mumsnet! Thank you!
