mrsmugoo · 04/03/2014 12:58

Yup same - ready meals and frozen pizzas!

Mummytobe2014 · 04/03/2014 13:27

One thing i am really really crap at is batch freezing, i am a really fussy eater anyway so its difficult to find things to cook but i really havent the energy either at mo lol. Done our usual fortnightly shop and hope dp will sort cooking!! I did buy fresh pasta and jacket spuds so atleast they r easy Smile

Congrats everyone with babies, my beautiful daisy was born sat 1st march by emergency CS after I went to hosp with a high temp, she was here within the hour weighing 7lb 11oz :-) xoxoxox

EmFlat · 05/03/2014 06:00

Hello lovelies! Adding another Martian birth Wink

Benedict Oliver Flaherty was born at 7.14pm on March 3rd, weighing 5lb 12oz... started with broken waters at 6.30am on the 2nd, and - despite his Mum's best intentions - arrived by c-sec due to infection risk.

Now the hard work begins: can't get him to feed because he's so mucusy! Horrible side-effect of c-sec Hmm Still in hospital, getting as much help and advice as is available, and am feeling rather overwhelmed! He's cute, though, and looks like a little old man when he frowns Wink

Sending love and best wishes to those still waiting and those who aren't!

Fender1 · 05/03/2014 06:36

Congratulations Gawjus and Em !
Hope mum and baby recover well, and feeding starts to get easier Em.
It's beginning to get a bit more real now - The Martians have definitely landed he he he Grin

liberuna · 05/03/2014 07:11

Mummytobe2014 · 05/03/2014 08:28

Congratultions to you both enjoy lots of newborn cuddles. Glad mums and babies are well. Xxx

FrankelInFoal · 05/03/2014 08:45

Congratulations for the latest new arrivals Grin

40+1 here and not sure there are any signs of shifting here! Back to walking and rotating on my ball today!

commsgirl · 05/03/2014 09:53

Congratulations ladies. Em I'm glad you went with Benedict :). Hope you're both recovering well and enjoying the cuddles.

I saw the midwife yesterday and despite being in the perfect position baby's head is not engaged. At all. Lots of walking/ball bouncing for me!

Hope everyone has a good day :) Cake

Imeg · 05/03/2014 10:06

Congratulations to the new families!

40+2 here and no signs...

To distract those of us still waiting, does anyone know anything about the link between child benefit and state pension eligibility? I think we wouldn't qualify for child benefit because of husband's income but I read a passing comment somewhere that we still need to apply and then not claim or pay it back or something, and that this then helps with NI contributions? I tried to look on the gov.uk website but trying to get my head round it gave me a headache...

Flumpinblues · 05/03/2014 10:35

Congratulations Emflat and Gawjus! Love the names too.

Still have no idea here. List getting longer. Maybe you lovely ladies could vote for your favourite? We have Alexa, Claudia, Sophia, Isabella, Elise, Olivia, Tessa and Chloe...?

I've tried and failed to understand the same website Imeg, although the other way round (I work full time so we were calling for my OH). However my accountant advised we claim and pay back through self assessment so we do.

39 weeks today here. More batch cooking on the horizon, 4 Shepherds Pies, 4 Fish Pies and a massive sausage casserole. Wish me luck! :)

commsgirl · 05/03/2014 11:22

Flump I love Elise, that was on our list. They're all so pretty though helpful

Imeg · 05/03/2014 12:16

Thanks flump. Annoyingly husband is an accountant but does business stuff so is no use at all for this sort of thing!

Imeg · 05/03/2014 12:20

PS All nice names but I like Tessa, though if it was me I think I would probably go for Theresa officially and then use Tessa day to day on the basis that it gives them more choice when they're older.

IceNoSlice · 05/03/2014 12:56

Congratulations! Ben is a fab name. Hope the feeding comes together soon, make the most of all the help you can - sometimes it is just a passing comment that makes it all 'click'. Our BF counsellor said something about keeping baby's head and body in a straight line and it suddenly made sense to me.

New mothers - make your way over to our Martians postnatal thread (I'll post link in a min). It's quiet at the moment but I'm sure will get busier as more babies arrive! That way we can avoid freaking out the mummies-to-be too much!

Imeg re Child Benefit. We're in the same boat and I read somewhere about the NI contributions. Can't give a link or anything. I just think the whole way they've dealt with it is a shambles so I wanted to register etc in case it all gets changed again. So we went down the claiming CB then doing self assessment returns. If you have an accountant doing them already then I'm sure it would be straightforward. However if you are new to self assessment be warned that it is not that easy. I got mine wrong by picking up the wrong figure for 'prior year underpayment' from a coding notice. And then had a scary letter saying I owed more money and threatening penalties, despite me having done it on time.

And I'm a chartered accountant Blush In my defense I work on big plc accounts and projections and haven't dealt with personal taxation since my exams in 2008 but still, a bit embarrassing!

IceNoSlice · 05/03/2014 12:59

Martians post natal thread linky

Imeg to conclude my previous post - I would probably claim then do self assessment return but leave loads of time (maybe do it in Oct/Nov - deadline is Jan 31st) in case of any probs.

DitaVonCreamTeas · 05/03/2014 13:03

Fabulous news Emflat and Gawjus how lovely. Smile

The second person in my NCT group has just had a wee boy after a four hour labour I'm not even slightly jealous. Grin Come on Spring Babies, let's be 'avin ya.

Imeg · 06/03/2014 10:45

40+3 now....

Fender1 · 06/03/2014 11:56

Bless you Imeg. Annoying isn't it? Analysing each and every twinge, not wanting to go far / do much in case 'today's the day'
Are you feeling ok in yourself though? Able to potter around? Someone said to book something (hair appt etc etc) for a week over EDD as you're bound to go into
Labour that day. Or if not you get lovely hair - win / win Grin

Mummytobe2014 · 06/03/2014 12:30

I had slight period pains last night, was sat here thinking yes come on but nope led to nothing and no different today! I havr a hair appt booked for the 15th soi wld be five days overdue!! Am really hoping i cant make it though lol.
Anyone had any positive labour movements yet?? X

Fender1 · 06/03/2014 13:02

Same here MTB2014, got a bit crampy about 4.30 this am so woke OH and got a hot water bottle and then .... Nothing.
I've spent the morning checking my, his and baby's bags are in order but it's all gone a bit quiet again.
I'm toying with booking reflexology for next week as that's lovely and relaxing if you like people touching your feet

FrankelInFoal · 06/03/2014 14:21

Same here too with the crampy/period pains in the night! I think I may be starting to lose my plug too as I've has a lot more discharge than normal today (sorry if TMI!). I've got a midwife appointment in an hour so hopefully she'll be able to hint at how much longer I'm looking at.

Been for a walk around the village to try and get things shifting and will probably spend the rest of the afternoon on my ball!

Imeg · 06/03/2014 14:33

Likewise odd twinges here and there but I think I'm only noticing them because I'm waiting for something to happen! Just indigestion mostly. I've already had a hair cut but will ponder what else I could plan that won't involve letting people down if I can't make it!

Mummytobe2014 · 06/03/2014 14:48

Yep same here seems to be more discharge but no plug (tmi) pls let us know what ur mw says x
